Heh, well the second one I did just want to be a "pointlessly cute BooO. Hinds wrote:I don't have much to say about the second one; it's cute, but that's nothing unusual for you.

totally silly picture, to undermine the person basically saying Boo
should kill Glory.
Thank you, OAC, I'm glad you like it, and that's great your friend likes it too, heh.Overlong Analysis Cobalt wrote:Very nice! My friend, who reads PH but doesn't comment, really enjoyed the P-21 one. :)

I can imagine it now. Blackjack finds Spike's old hard drive, convinces Glory to hook it up to a terminal... P-21 has to drag her away from it...

I doubt the most secretive being in Equestria would just let someone (especially Blackjack) get access to his current files. It'd be far more likely one of his old terminals still has a functioning HDD in the Ponyville library. I'm assuming the ponies used magic to solve the problem of an HDD degrading over a few decades, of course.

Appropriately enough we take a trip down memory lane as I’m rushing through the backlog to catch up. Just like old times. Found my first post, a little thank you, along with buried arguments, lots of Boo, and the old writing contest. Nostalgic.
Random Blank. Always worthwhile things to say, that one. Wouldn’t have dared do pony if it wasn’t for him.
Why did I sign this?
And how thoughtless of me, of course you can’t tell anyone your birthday wish.
It’d be novel if a character like that survived. Going on as a living relic like Fluttershy from the original FOE. Just trying to go on, maybe even do better depending on the impression Blackjack leaves. But he’s painted in targets of all sorts. The best thing to hope for is some 200+ year old closure.
It isn’t quite the same without her around, no. She earned us that [GRIMDARK] tag up there, after all. But you know who else I miss, especially after those old posts from the comment thread?RoboRed wrote:I miss...Kim...tylertoon2 wrote:

- Went ranting about Deus:
- Deus can talk but he won’t. They made it pretty clear. After the conversation on his motivations I’m thinking it’s something more than Rampage’s theory. I only hope that ‘apologize to Twist’ is as malicious and bad as it gets. And if that’s the case, I hope he gets the chance.
You know what? I hope Doof survives. I really do. He has several different targets on him from tactical to plot-centric that make it seem like he’s never going to get out of this alive. He’s dumb as rocks, couldn’t understand revelation when it hit him, and blundered his way through all sorts of hell in the hope he might get taken down. When it finally happens, he gets pulled back into a fight he wants no part in (presumably against his will?), in a body even more removed from the depersonalizing (dehumanizing? de-equinizing?) metal thing he was before. When even that fails, he’s put on a self-destruct timer... which is de-activated by the ones he was sent to kill.
Maybe the worst part was when a support was ripped out from under him. How often could he tell himself and others that they didn’t know what it was like? That it wasn’t his fault he was a metal monster. Maybe he could have gotten better, done better, but some cunts replaced him with a fucking machine and everything went to hell from there. How could any of them know? Even Gorgon didn’t go through that.
But then one of them got it. Maybe it’s just because she doesn’t know what it’s really like- are we supposed to cry because she lost her legs? You can still see those cards on her ass, and there isn’t any metal plate digging into her eyes. She got off easy, it’s plain to see. But she starts talking- always talking when she should be killing. And when she talks it’s plain. No idea how she can get off so easy but still know exactly how it feels. Maybe it doesn’t matter how much metal goes in. But she knows. She knows exactly what it’s like and she highroads him. Metal everywhere. Metal ready to blow her fucking head off, and what does she say? Just choose to do better, like that’s all it took. Like that was the only reason he wasn’t still a fucking good guy. And then she uses his name. His real name.
What could he do?
What can he do?
It’d be novel if a character like that survived. Going on as a living relic like Fluttershy from the original FOE. Just trying to go on, maybe even do better depending on the impression Blackjack leaves. But he’s painted in targets of all sorts. The best thing to hope for is some 200+ year old closure.
- Revision Revue!:
...Yup, even on the second read-through that beginning is all kinds of uncomfortable awkward.
You know, I didn’t mention it the first time but that shot really got me. It was just so plain to see, so understandable to me. Psalm’s decision, I mean.
“You’re seeing everything I saw.”
Echo’s messing in Blackjack’s head. Or he could be just comparing his secret stash to Blackjack’s.
Lacunae’s confession is now with added Doubtables(TM). And she’s getting really overprotective of her... this is more than taking care of a friend. This is something seriously personal to pull Lac out of her shell.
The conversation also reminds me that Lacunae is at The Goddesses mercy, too. It mentioned she didn’t seem like herself? It could be because Lacunae had to come out of her self-defensiveness for a moment, or it could be the Goddess interfering for some reason (which might explain the overprotectiveness?)
Where did Scotch go after P-21 appears by Blackjack? She scoops him up onto her back but there’s no mention of Scotch there until later.
“And oddly, I don’t think he wants to fight me, either.”
Vitiosus of Oz?
The valley dogs were watching their fight? Huh. Though I knew it wasn’t going to happen, I was half hoping one of them popped out, grabbed BJ, then vanished. Anti-climax cheats always make me laugh. Doubly hilarious because Viti is all ‘blah blah destiny.’
On the actual Legate fight itself, I notice that the hint to the [LEGATE SPOILER] is much more subtle. Time will tell if this stems the tide the next time Viti gets Violent.
Most of the zebras support Lancer, then? Interesting. Also, Vitiosus of Oz. He’s probably not as terrified as I’d like him to be, but he’s fake enough that the Remnant will obviously be doing a little redistribution of power in the near future.
Final note: Sitting cross-legged? I tried to imagine a pony doing that, and ow!

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Oh, it gets worse. Doof is slow, sure. He didn't have a chance of figuring out what was going on at the time. But he's had two hundred years to reflect on matters. Every mistake he made, every time he was manipulated, every time a good, clever pony would have taken action, Echo chose not to act, and he never realized there was a choice to be made. All through the clarity of hindsight and centuries of analysis. Maybe he didn't see as much as Echo. More likely he saw a lot more; Echo was a good little soldier but Doof was a prisoner, a test subject, then a weapon of mass destruction, and an imbecile to boot, so why would anyone bother to hide anything from him? And he wouldn't have understood any of it at the time, but now... he probably just wishes he didn't.Meleagridis wrote:Echo bemoans seeing everything and doing nothing. Doof didn’t see nearly as much, but unlike Twist or Gorgon he didn’t have his brain screwed with to forget the past. He saw everything happening and... probably didn’t understand any of it. He’s been there since the beginning, watching the world go to hell.

Uh. I was under the impression that Deus had been put into the freezer before the Holocaust, and that Sanguine thawed him only recently - a few decades from the start of the story, one century at most.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
In the spirit of the last few days, I've gone spleunking to find my first post in the community.
It looks like it will still be quite a while before I get to read that, though. But I'll have Project Horizons in the meantime.
On a related note, a month or so ago I ran across a related essay while looking for Tolkien's On Fairy Stories: "Dwarves are not Heroes": antisemitism and the Dwarves in J.R.R. Tolkien's writing.
My first post actually related to PH wasn't until a few days later and was, interestingly, also a responce to Kim:
Love the "Delete" gif. Though I can't claim to relate to those who are reminded of pre–Private Browsing['s Chrome equivalent] days: I remember there being "delete last x hours' history" on Firefox and IE well before Chrome even existed, and used that when I didn't want to get rid of all history.
Just for some topical relevance, anyone remember the big Deus morality and forgiveness discussion back in August just after Boing's return? Good times, those. It'll be interesting to see just how he turns out, but I do have real concerns on the basis that happiness's half life is pretty low around here.
Icy Shake wrote:Somber wrote: . . . Dwarves are insular, but every community worth its salt has a Dwarven enclave. They're excellent at getting and loaning money, but every now and then humans will cry 'Dwarven Conspiracy' and turn on them. Dwarves just run for their lives, wait a human generation, get invited back, sweep out the ashes, and raise interest rates. And the cycle continues. ...
Yeah, been thinking about it a long time. But I won't put words down till Horizons is finished. I also have a sci-fi fic in mind too... that one might be shorter.
I'm liking the base of this world-building already, though what stood out the most to me were the Dwarves. It seems like you might be going with Tolkein's Semitic base turned up a notch, even if that's just my first impression. Nice to have more diversity in Dwarves than having them all be Scots.
Anyway, would definitely give that story a shot if you get around to it. Your writing really improves any day it touches, so thank you--and your editors--for all the work you put into it.

Seeing how she seemed to see perfectly fine several kilometres into the next town, or wherever she now was looking. I prolly remember it wrong but, whatever. I found that whole segment kinda odd.
Well, real-world snipers have confirmed kills up to 2.5km, but the record is closer to 2.3km near sea level. I would imagine they can see farther than that. Throw in magical enhancements and the range should be further improved. As for her escape, I imagine that the balefire bombs would be in the low kiloton range, and so have kill radii of around a couple of kilometers, assuming power drop off comparable to nukes.
Of course, I'm not sure my memory is much better than yours, so if anyone has a more accurate description of balefire bombs' characteristics, I would not say no to a refresher course.

Actually I never had a problem with people reading my history, since my parents just let me have my own user account on the shared computer until I bought my own later.
Oh yes, just a word of warning. I don't mind anyone taking the P-21 gif and using it for their own purposes. However, if it is ever used in a disparaging manner towards Project Horizons, I reserve the right to burn the offending party at the stake.

Glory really should get that jacket. Just about everyone has a significant item or ability and I don't think Glory wears armor. Gear wise she is really falling behind.

She didn't spec well, so there isn't much she can use effectively. Couple that with Blackjack stealing all the loot and Glory should really be playing on a lower difficulty setting.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Hey I'm new to the forum and all that, love the story yadda yadda.
Anyways, after seeing this cool piece of artwork:
http://piecee01.deviantart.com/art/Fallout-Equestria-2-The-new-wastelanders-358313641
I got this cool idea for a possible side story or sequel to PH I just
want to get out somewhere on the internet. Now I'm not caught up on PH and idk how
Somber's planning on ending it but that image got me thinking "what if
Blackjack had a kid?" and I remembered BJ also considered it at one
point.
I worked it out and I think I got a feasible setup for a
squeal story. Blackjack, after conquering the Core
and many years of hard work, can possibly become the element of magic
for gardens (since she's a descendant of twilight and she learned to
teleport last chapter I read, her magic potential is just now
revealing itself. I'd want to have her kid become the element of
magic and have the whole story be about that but it doesn't work with the timescale of FoE.)
I'd name the kid Solitaire, keeping with the card game naming of her family. I think
it's really appropriate because in in jewellery solitaire is a single
gemstone set in a ring, so it could have a double meaning as in her kid
is the gem of her life or something like that. I'd also make BJ's kid a
boy so I could use the cool title "FoE: Prodigal Son." Being the kid of
the "legendary" Security people had really high expectations of
Solitaire, gives a lot of possibility for angst/brooding. Also, assuming
BJ's still gonna be around 10+ years later, no one wants to fuck with
Solitaire because of who their mom is and so most people wouldn't want
to even be near 'em because of any possible trouble they could get in
with BJ. This would make him kind of a loner, possibly make rampage his only friend (besides his mom of course), making the name doubbly appropriate because solitaire is a game that's played alone.
The story would take place some point during or after the FoE 10 year
afterword and there still plenty of trouble to be found and the world is
still a violent place. You can take people out of the wasteland, but you
can't take the wasteland out of the people.
Anyways, that's my two bits.

Well that certainly is an interesting idea.
In any case, welcome to the forum and I hope you stick around.

Now that you mention it, that one memory orb with Sanguine and Deus was a situation he probably ended up in a lot- overhearing certain things.Sindri wrote:
And he wouldn't have understood any of it at the time, but now... he probably just wishes he didn't.
This is now on my character interaction wishlist, right after Rampage and Lacunae: Doof shouting down Echo's throat in a 'shit I've seen' shouting match.
Stasis doesn't stop the brain. So he had all that time to think about it. And a century at most means half of the gap between the present and the bombfall at most, no small timeframe.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Uh. I was under the impression that Deus had been put into the freezer before the Holocaust, and that Sanguine thawed him only recently - a few decades from the start of the story, one century at most.
Did I get it wrong ?
Speaking purely as a spectator, I miss most of the arguments. Even the no-nos.Sindri wrote:

B) I wouldn't get too excited about anything spinning off from PH quite yet. It probably has quite a few surprises in store. Plus I'm pretty sure that the Author outright stated that Blackjack's virtue isn't magic (or generosity... but don't quote me on that).
Not to mention I think she's going to die.

This is of interest. There's a definite probability that Blackjack, Rampage, and/or the Hoof will not exist anymore after Somber is done with them, but if you're not too worried about going AU that isn't a big problem...imurmanic wrote:I got this cool idea for a possible side story or sequel to PH I just
want to get out somewhere on the internet...
You'd have to be careful with it of course; not only is the tragic loner archetype easy to botch, but using characters from another story tends to blow up in your face when fans of the original get to reading it. And as a PH spinoff, your audience would be mostly limited to people who just came away from Somber's work. And I kinda doubt that Blackjack is Element of Magic, even in the unlikely event that she's a Bearer at all, but if you're going AU anyway...
Blackjack's already died. Twice. And her reproductive organs are the only part still in its original condition so far.Meleagridis wrote:Not to mention I think she's going to die.

Would it be more accurate to say I think that, in the future, she may be dead? Or worse?Sindri wrote:

What are the odds that Blackjack is going to make it out of this whole mess in any condition where she could raise a family?
I... can't really remember exactly. I think it had to do with their wasteland therapist natures. Maybe a bit of gestalt-to-gestalt, too.swicked wrote:

Assuming BJ survives, I think she's gonna be a cybernetic head-in-a-jar like in Futurama.

Sigh...
I re- re- read 54 and now I want to tweak the end of the Legate fight and have the bullets have some more substantial impact to BJ... thoughts? Or should I just leave well enough alone?
