I am trying to think of a good song to go along with the fight scene. That was definitely on the list.

So, I have a request to bring this up here, comes from the /mlp/ board.
Completely reasonable so if I see anyone shitting on the fact it comes from /mlp/, I won't be pleased.
Again, completely reasonable and a very good point. Whatever happened to this? Why was it even brought up at all if (at least so far) there's never been any further mention of it?
I mean, sure, there's been mention of the rings in other places since then, but never has the Tenpony one came back to focus.
Anything, anyone?
I guess Somber could argue its a chekovs blank, but still, I'm not sure of that. I don't see the need to add something like that, especially not to an important location to the original without some kind of use.
Though I suppose it could be a chekovs gun still waiting to go off.
Just seems like an awfully long wait is all.

It could also use some discussion here, I guess, but most people are fed up with PH so...
Wasn't there a bit in Tenpony where BJ finds an enervation ring (pesticide talisman) that doesn't produce any enervation, so the local doc tests it and it starts enervating a little bit once a patient dies...
How's that make any damn sense? Are we supposed to assume that NOBODY, ANYWHERE has died near enervation rings except in Hoofington? (I'm sure the EoS is also a source, but still)

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Oh yeah, that did happen.
Granted it's not really an explanation and more of my way of handwaving it away, but I always went with that Hoofington was a special kind of hell because there was enervation all over the damn place in large patches and pockets.
That said it's not that nobody has died of enervation anywhere else, just that certain conditions need to be met before a ring activates and activated rings are few and far between in the wasteland outside of Hoofington.
No idea what the trigger could be though.

I believe I can answer this one. All the active rings that BJ has encountered have, one way or another, been hooked up to a source of electricity/whatever magic ponies use to power things. The ring that they found in Tenpony wasn't powered until they hooked it up for their little experiment, after which it apparently started generating enervation once someone died in its proximity.Kippershy wrote:So, I have a request to bring this up here, comes from the /mlp/ board.

It would seem, based on the Tenpony ring, Hightower, and Silverstar Sporting Supplies, that the rings are dormant and harmless devices by default. Once energized by a power source, they can begin absorbing nearby souls (one could assume, based on the fact that BJ passes through several rings after her soul gets yoinked just after Hightower) and, in turn, generating enervation fields which grow in strength proportionately to 'electrical' (and/or soul?) input.
As we saw in SSS, cutting power to the ring kills its E-field. The pesticide talismans are designed, manufactured devices. What's worrying is that they could potentially be anywhere (or everywhere!), and the Core is conveniently positioned on top of a near-limitless source of energy.
My hunch is that the Tokomare/EoS, if all the rings were somehow activated, would form a widespread feedback loop. A feedback loop that just happens to melt everyone.

So in other words, the ring in Tenpony wasn't for some future event, but rather, as a much smaller piece to a puzzle rather than its own puzzle?
To refine my words, it's merely used as a part of a scientific study almost. Taking it on its own leaves it without context, but beside other examples it shows to explain how they work?
Thank you, Snipe. I'll relay this on. You'll be getting even more brownie points with the foe crowd over on 4chan I believe.

Precisely. Methinks it's a hint to the answer of a bigger question, rather than an important question in itself. On the topic of the rings, anyone ever try to analyzed the bloody thing? Like check composition and if anything was inscribed on the rings? Or did all they do was hook it up to a battery? Is it too much to ask the Twilight Society to check it out, with all their mysterious research labs and such?

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
The ring didn't become a permanent Enervation source because of one death -- it just emitted a short burst of Enervation. Enough to visibly affect a potion if you were looking for it, and to make a noticible "scream", but that's all. Presumably, that means that Ms. Ivy's soul got trapped by the EoS's soul net and the ring resonated for a moment.Kippershy wrote:Again, completely reasonable and a very good point. Whatever happened to this? Why was it even brought up at all if (at least so far) there's never been any further mention of it?

I guess Somber could argue its a chekovs blank, but still, I'm not sure of that. I don't see the need to add something like that, especially not to an important location to the original without some kind of use.
Though I suppose it could be a chekovs gun still waiting to go off.
Just seems like an awfully long wait is all.
I think what Snipe said about it being a sign of a larger puzzle is correct. That particular event let us see how widespread the rings are, and that there's a range-dropoff effect even when the rings are powered up. However, that also means that any amplification of the EoS's normal Enervation field would be echoed and multiplied across Equestria. I now direct your attention to Chapter 44:
Moonstone plus Starmetal equals a short-lived Enervation pulse. Dropping a fuckton of Moonstone on the Eater sounds like an even worse idea now, doesn't it? It would be catastrophic not just for Hoofington, but the entire Equestrian Wasteland.I trotted towards the flake’s impact dent and looked at the smoking bit of metal. No, not just smoking. It was melting away before my eyes, shrinking as it made a long, low screaming noise.
I expect that we're about to find out a whole lot more about Enervation, as soon as BJ goes to Roseluck Agrifarms to pay off Triage. That will probably happen shortly after the Goddess dies, because then BJ will regain what she's learned about the rings so far, which should make delving the Agrifarms a much higher priority.
Yeah, I kicked in "End of Line" as soon as BJ walked in, then switched to Derezzed-on-repeat for the duration of the fight.RoboRed wrote:Also, who else totally listened to "Derezzed" during that battle?

They will all join the Choir at their own speed, but sooner or later all will be as one. She may kill more messengers as she did at the tower, but there is no way to stop them all. The Choir is our salvation. The Choir is all-consuming. It is the only way, and It is inevitable!
(I don't think the rings were there before. It's gametime, so culties are putting them everywhere. Least that's the impression I got.)

It was in a Roseluck Agrifarms pest control box, though, just like the one in Silverstar. The way I figure it, before the war, a very weak Enervation field would kill bugs but wouldn't even bother a healthy pre-war pony. Now, though, the EoS is awake, so the Enervation is stronger, and most wasteland ponies just aren't as robust as ones raised on good food and clean water, so the Enervation has a more severe effect on them. (Fridge logic -- I guess that's why most protagonists are Stable ponies. They're just plain healthier!)Meleagridis wrote:I don't think the rings were there before. The P-21 one makes me giggle so much. I love his cheerfully blank expression as he deletes ALL the emails.WavemasterRyx wrote:So, today was somewhat productive. The Boo tumblr has been updated with 2 new posts.

Indeed, much giggling was done at the sight of that. The second one is adorable as your Boo usually is.SilentCarto wrote:The P-21 one makes me giggle so much. I don't have much to say about the second one; it's cute, but that's nothing unusual for you.WavemasterRyx wrote:So, today was somewhat productive. The Boo tumblr has been updated with 2 new posts.

The first one, though: Hahahahee! I particularly like the expression on his face.
