Some guns shoot Flechettes. If you consider grenade launchers to be guns, then some guns shoot grenades. Some guns (shotguns) shoot about 85000000 different types of ammunition.

The idea of someone not liking guns is almost foreign to me, but I'm pretty close to the stereotypical military type (bang bang kill the enemy TEN-HUT! Something something swear words!)
I thought I detected a hint of "Hurry the hell up already" in that post. XD

Feel free to bring up something else if you wish, of course. I'd like something I could attempt to contribute to, though I typically fail.swicked wrote:
Well, there's that gun that shoots knives. Or the gun that shoots other guns. Or that sword that's a gun that shoots swords.
I suppose you could call RPGs and missile launchers a kind of gun. At least, I would, being a layman to this topic.
I have honestly never been more bored with a PHCC discussion... but hey, it's lasted THREE DAYS, so clearly SOMEONE is having fun... XP

re explosives:
Alchemy.
re APE:
Ironmonger's idea is interesting, but I was originally thinking "kinetic penetrator filled with explosives and a delayed impact fuse"; the idea was to dig into or through the armor and explode either inside the material or right on the other side.
re Soviets:
Oh, neat.
re bullets/shells:
Ah. Actually, I was thinking of using the same design of bullet/shell. That way only three production lines (one to make the bullets/shells and one each to put them into rifle or pistol/SMG cartridges) would be needed, rather than four. Masozi in the early days of its industry was quite strapped for resources, particularly energy supplies. Wouldn't having explosive pistol ammunition offset a compromise shell design skewed more towards good rifle performance? Actually, now that I think about it, there's a chance that Miliozi explosive rounds of the time might have been [/i]cheaper[/i] for them to produce than solid metal bullets; the explosives can be manufactured from various renewable resources grown in the city or harvested from the ocean, but metal is in limited supply. This is, of course, before trade with the Elusive Company opens up and Masozi takes full advantage of newly available supplies of petroleum and raw materials; they might start manufacturing dedicated pistol and rifle bullets/shells after that.

Hm... Do you think that saboted flechette rounds for handguns would be useful? Using a lightweight plastic sabot ought to allow the flechette(s) to get up to quite a high speed, it seems to me. Of course, then there's the problem of them just blasting straight through the target and out the other side, potentially... but perhaps the sheer speed of their passage would do extra damage? I don't know.Mister Frost wrote:Some guns shoot Flechettes. If you consider grenade launchers to be guns, then some guns shoot grenades. Right off the top o' my noggin I'd say put a large fan at one end of the tunnel to draw in fresh air, possibly a system of fans, and a few on the ceiling to cycle out the bad stuff...I don't know honestly. Started off strong there and wound up weak.

I have no idea what your talking about with most of the ideas relating to places with animal puns as names you bring to the forum. Are you constructing a massive extended headcanon or are you writing a fic? Or is it something else?O. Hinds wrote:

A flechette would pierce armor very well and have excellent ballistics, and it would take far less propellant to get it up to the necessary speed. It wouldn't do much damage unless you hit something vital, but the smaller cartridges and lower recoil would allow high mag capacity and rapid fire, meaning you could have an automatic/burst fire pistol, and just send off controlled bursts until you hit a vital artery or organ

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
My latest line of thought on the matter is to divide the tunnel into three zones; at each divider is the end of an air duct running to the nearest end of the tunnel. One of the ducts pumps air into the tunnel, the other pulls it out. The duct pulling air out ought to pull fresh air in from both the near end of the tunnel and from the duct pumping air in, while the duct pumping air in sends fresh air to the other duct and along the tunnel to its near entrance. In the event of a breakdown at one of the fan stations, the air system still ought to work, air either entering or exhausting through both ends of the tunnel. What do you think?

Similarly, sharp unless they are only pointy.
And that's all assuming they aren't batons.
Melee weapons... yeah.

Air talismans, like the one that was sabotaged in 99 (only not sabotaged, obviously).Caoimhe wrote:Man, I was going to troll you all by asking how stables provided fresh air circulation then watch as four pages of pony science racked up.

Neat. I imagine that the flechettes could also cause some rather nasty internal bleeding even if they didn't hit anything vital, but that's not good enough if you're already shot dead by the time your target starts having trouble.Mister Frost wrote:O. In order to comment further on the tunnels I would have to know exactly how this tunnel is laid out. My brain is getting itself in a knot figuring out whether the zone dividers are going lengthwise, widthwise...what

The less propellant required would mean the gun's quieter, which means you could shoot from the shadows (Flechettes could easily be made case less, so shooting from under a coat or inside a pocket is easy) and walk away like nothing happens while your enemy gets a bunch of needles tearing up his insides with every movement

Fun Fact: back in the '60's, the U.S. Military was researching a Flechette rifle to be the standard issue weapon. In the meantime, they adopted a nice little holdover weapon. Given that that holdover was the M16, we all know how that went.

I thought the M-16's adoption was a more political move more than anything else on the part of McNamara or something like that. Though, more bullets could be carried and the M-14 was heavier and unwieldy in Vietnam with it's barrel length and wooden furnishings.Mister Frost wrote:Fun Fact: back in the '60's, the U.S. Military was researching a Flechette rifle to be the standard issue weapon. Quick question: Does any FoE story, original or side-fic, make a mention of griffon power armor? I have a bit of an idea-ball rolling for my fic.

In more seriousness, there's also the Wizardry 8 Omni-gun that shoots all sorts of stuff. Not sure how it would work in any kind of a realistic setting, but it's awesome.
