Battlesaddles come pretty close but the "hold in the mouth" design needs better elaboration. I get that pony jaw is a lot stronger but the resulting firearm would probably have the bulk of the body on one side to compensate for recoil and would probably look like that weird pistol from Total Recall. Pulling the trigger with the tongue seems possible, but again, someone needs to elaborate on it and make a standard design.

Regardless, Unicorns, being overpowered as fuck already, get the advantage of maneuverability.

I always picture mouth-held guns as looking similar to ours, but with some modifications. Like I see the trigger being in a hole at the center of the grip, so the teeth can grab the entire thing, and the tongue slips into the hole and pulls the trigger behind the teeth.
For rifles, I had difficulties thinking of them, because the pony shoulder as we saw in show isn't really the same as ours, in that it doesn't really stick out from the body much (at least most of the time, such as when they are actually standing. The only time I've really seen it sticking out is when they were sitting or waving their forelegs around). I ended up thinking it must have some kind of recoil-reduction system built in, like with our recoil-less rifles but on a small scale, to minimize the impact on the jaw. Same with shotguns, but even a recoil-negating system would be really bulky for that and would probably be increadibly heavy and difficult to hold in the jaw.

in order to sight the gun, it would have to line up with an eye and in such a way that the slide won't interfere or injure its weilder...

sorry you came on too late cao, I would have loved to actually try to discuss with you... oh well I will try to catch you next time...also why not go to the EQD page for PH? they have pretty decent tabs of the story...

This is also true, which would be very difficult when holding the gun in your mouth...not far from your snout and eyes. At least this applies for handguns, since most rifles either don't have moving slides, or they can be placed away from the shooter. Of course they could design the guns to point straight ahead from the nose, and teach that whatever you point your snout at is where the bullet will go; similar to how urban warfare teaches to use your finger to point down the barrel so you don't have to actually aim when you don't have enough time. This would only work at very close quarters, but it could be pretty effective at short ranges, at least for good shooters, and would allow the slide to be on the side of their head where it has less chance to bite.

I actually have thought about how ponies would design guns, and I think I have a valid set up for pistols and rifle type weapons.

Pistols -> There would be a mouth grip where the trigger and safety / magazine release would be, something akin to the pistol here, Picture. Looking at his eyes if he held it in his mouth by the grip it would line up with either his left or right eye. Therefore the gun would be sighted normally as if we were holding it sideways. The casing ejection port would be moved to the top of the gun instead of the side. Since ponies have stronger jaws they could either use higher caliber rounds or handle low caliber guns with ease.

Rifles -> Mr. Mech really did a lot of the work for me here. Look at how Xanthe holds the shotgun in this picture here, Picture #2. The barrel lines up with her right eye. Theoretically rifle guns could look exactly like ours, except without a stock and with a mouth grip on the side. Though naturally they would be chambered with higher caliber ammunition because of the equines higher capacity for injury than humans.

Neither of those links work.

Regardless, their jaw muscles may be able to handle the higher calibers, but their teeth won't be able to. Firing off a high caliber gun would cause shock to the teeth, which would also hit their jawbones and reverb through their heads, causing bad effects. Anything 5.56 and lower wouldn't do much damage, but anything higher and you start getting cracked teeth, inner ear damage, as well as rattling of the brain which could eventually add up to bruising or a minor concussion.

That sounds like it could be a possible explanation why we've never seen a pony use a rifle without a battle saddle before. Though I don't think that kind of fridge logic was taken into consideration. I'm kind of assuming at this point that ponies have stronger jaws / teeth / bones than humans and that the brain rattling would only be a problem for those who had a lifetime of war.

Maybe, but we've seen the horrible quality of teeth in the Wasteland, if they even have them all, so the effects would only be worse. Of course most Raiders probably wouldn't care with the number of drugs they're on.

Well considering how broken the Equestrian Enchanting system would be it is entirely possible every gun comes installed with recoil and sound dampening talismans. Magic and gemstones were readily available.

I just wanted to clear something up, I don't put human weapons in FoE, I put human actions in FoE. I find a gun that has a useful feature and I modify it for pony use.

Also I always imagine most pony pistols being chambered in .357 or .44 magnum and held in a mouth grip center of the weapon's rear, or in Lil Mac's case a sideways handle.

EDIT: I'm starting to realize I've put actually put much thought into pony weapons, I just forgot the hard work I put into them. I mad.

I've found two or three well-written continuations. One was The Cupcake Chronicles and I don't even remember what the others were.

I seriously hope this is a case of you just being overly sensitive and taking things out of context or something.
Very shortly after I posted it, Somber posted saying "I really need to get the next chapter done soon... the forums are getting scary again."

Oh I'm not worried about it, sir. I accepted it as a likelihood before I began the drawing. I merely wished to dispel the notion that I was better in any way than anyone else here.
Spoiler:

Dude, I don't think Somber mentioning the forums getting scary was you at all. If I remember correctly, it was other people (possibly including myself) that made it scary.

About pony guns, it seems like they'd have serious problems with things like sniper rifles and grenade launchers.

If their eyes were even adapted for focusing long-distance (they did evolve as a prey species) then they would need to have this full-on, automated system built into a battle saddle just to hold the rifle, and even then it's not stable enough. The technicolor coats would necessitate specialty uniforms for every single sniper.

Grenade launchers fire in a huge arc. Mounting it on a battle saddle would necessitate a crazy complex rangefinder-integrated swivel affair that is just begging for malfunctions. Then we get on the fact that most grenade launchers (yes, even in FoE) are single-shot and need manual reloading

Magic for grenade launchers, both for reloading and rangefinding. Like Steel Rain's setup, only less advanced. Fortunately, magic doesn't malfunction. For sniper rifles, my headcanon was always that they'd be fired from a prone position or by a unicorn who could levitate them. Actual snipers, from what I've heard, generally have special suits uniforms and whatnot anyway, and rubbing brown dye into a coat would always work for those pastels. Later in the war, of course, stealthbucks would make all that pointless.

Snipers generally use either standard uniforms (for urban fighting) or ghille suits (for field work). Staying hidden without a pip-buck would quite difficult without a nimble, flat human body.
