Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Battlesaddles come pretty close but the "hold in the mouth" design needs better elaboration. I get that pony jaw is a lot stronger but the resulting firearm would probably have the bulk of the body on one side to compensate for recoil and would probably look like that weird pistol from Total Recall. Pulling the trigger with the tongue seems possible, but again, someone needs to elaborate on it and make a standard design.
Regardless, Unicorns, being overpowered as fuck already, get the advantage of maneuverability.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I always picture mouth-held guns as looking similar to ours, but with some modifications. Like I see the trigger being in a hole at the center of the grip, so the teeth can grab the entire thing, and the tongue slips into the hole and pulls the trigger behind the teeth.
For rifles, I had difficulties thinking of them, because the pony shoulder as we saw in show isn't really the same as ours, in that it doesn't really stick out from the body much (at least most of the time, such as when they are actually standing. The only time I've really seen it sticking out is when they were sitting or waving their forelegs around). I ended up thinking it must have some kind of recoil-reduction system built in, like with our recoil-less rifles but on a small scale, to minimize the impact on the jaw. Same with shotguns, but even a recoil-negating system would be really bulky for that and would probably be increadibly heavy and difficult to hold in the jaw.

in order to sight the gun, it would have to line up with an eye and in such a way that the slide won't interfere or injure its weilder...
sorry you came on too late cao, I would have loved to actually try to discuss with you... oh well I will try to catch you next time...also why not go to the EQD page for PH? they have pretty decent tabs of the story...

This is also true, which would be very difficult when holding the gun in your mouth...not far from your snout and eyes. At least this applies for handguns, since most rifles either don't have moving slides, or they can be placed away from the shooter. Of course they could design the guns to point straight ahead from the nose, and teach that whatever you point your snout at is where the bullet will go; similar to how urban warfare teaches to use your finger to point down the barrel so you don't have to actually aim when you don't have enough time. This would only work at very close quarters, but it could be pretty effective at short ranges, at least for good shooters, and would allow the slide to be on the side of their head where it has less chance to bite.Admiral Stoic Rum wrote:in order to sight the gun, it would have to line up with an eye and in such a way that the slide won't interfere or injure its weilder...

preciesely perhaps they were engineered with an offset sight, which would be adjusted based on the range to target...

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I actually have thought about how ponies would design guns, and I think I have a valid set up for pistols and rifle type weapons.
Pistols -> There would be a mouth grip where the trigger and safety / magazine release would be, something akin to the pistol here, Picture. Looking at his eyes if he held it in his mouth by the grip it would line up with either his left or right eye. Therefore the gun would be sighted normally as if we were holding it sideways. The casing ejection port would be moved to the top of the gun instead of the side. Since ponies have stronger jaws they could either use higher caliber rounds or handle low caliber guns with ease.
Rifles -> Mr. Mech really did a lot of the work for me here. Look at how Xanthe holds the shotgun in this picture here, Picture #2. The barrel lines up with her right eye. Theoretically rifle guns could look exactly like ours, except without a stock and with a mouth grip on the side. Though naturally they would be chambered with higher caliber ammunition because of the equines higher capacity for injury than humans.

Neither of those links work.
Regardless, their jaw muscles may be able to handle the higher calibers, but their teeth won't be able to. Firing off a high caliber gun would cause shock to the teeth, which would also hit their jawbones and reverb through their heads, causing bad effects. Anything 5.56 and lower wouldn't do much damage, but anything higher and you start getting cracked teeth, inner ear damage, as well as rattling of the brain which could eventually add up to bruising or a minor concussion.

That sounds like it could be a possible explanation why we've never seen a pony use a rifle without a battle saddle before. Though I don't think that kind of fridge logic was taken into consideration. I'm kind of assuming at this point that ponies have stronger jaws / teeth / bones than humans and that the brain rattling would only be a problem for those who had a lifetime of war.

Maybe, but we've seen the horrible quality of teeth in the Wasteland, if they even have them all, so the effects would only be worse. Of course most Raiders probably wouldn't care with the number of drugs they're on.

with the action happening so close to their ears, its a difficult say on exactly how the weapons work in mouth mount,

Well considering how broken the Equestrian Enchanting system would be it is entirely possible every gun comes installed with recoil and sound dampening talismans. Magic and gemstones were readily available.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I just wanted to clear something up, I don't put human weapons in FoE, I put human actions in FoE. I find a gun that has a useful feature and I modify it for pony use.
Also I always imagine most pony pistols being chambered in .357 or .44 magnum and held in a mouth grip center of the weapon's rear, or in Lil Mac's case a sideways handle.
EDIT: I'm starting to realize I've put actually put much thought into pony weapons, I just forgot the hard work I put into them. I mad.

Okay, lads n' lasses. I recall some of you (the more depraved ones) wish to know the reasoning behind this little line:
So, I shall bequeath this knowledge unto you, along with a little backstory so you understand.
You all have Scyto to thank for the sick idea.

So, I shall bequeath this knowledge unto you, along with a little backstory so you understand.
- Warning - contains squick (don't say I didn't warn you.) Also, there's spoilers, but I'm pretty sure none of you give a damn:
So the setting of the the current season of our RP takes place ~20 years post Gardens of Equestria. Things are slowly becoming green again, and the NCR has become a force of good. They decided 5 years prior to send out groups to seek contact with other lands outside the former Equestrian wasteland. However, something goes wrong with contact with the island nation of Japony. To make a long story short, our group arrives seeking cap to fix damage done from a bioweapon megaspell that was activated at our town, gets screwed over by a rogue NCR faction, later gets captured by the Empress, who orchestrated all this, because she needed souls for some arcane spell to grant her great power.
Specifically, she needs the souls of two Zebra youth. And that's where Shayle and Felix come in. Now, for those of you who don't know or haven't read Camo's story (backstory's the same) Shayle's was raped repeatedly by her father during her childhood, while Felix has no knowledge of this. She kills him and the run away, and long story short, that's how they got with the group and the town. Simply put, you need to know two things: Shayle's life just seems to be constantly full of misery, and Shayle loves her brother more than anything in the world.
So, back the the captured bit. The group was trying to rescue Shayle and free the Empress' younger sister, the Princess of Japony, and end up playing right into the Empress' hands. So Shayle and Felix are isolated from the rest of the group while the Empress gloats and reveals her plan, then attempts to have the rest of the group gassed (Unknown to Shayle & Felix. They're told that their friends are fine.). Meanwhile, she heads back to Shayle and Felix, ready to kill them to consume their souls. Shayle pleads for their lives, and the Empress considers another option. She realizes she may not need their souls, just their essences. So she throws them into a room full of turrets and gives them an ultimatum.Kippershy wrote:I know that Shayle also had to fuck her brother to get away from some kind of villain in the RP despite the fact she had another way out of the situation but was too stupid to realise it.
Yeah. "Either you two bang and produce me a zebra offspring and live to see your friends again, or you become ground zebra".
Shayle didn't want to do it at all. She was disgusted at the very thought. However, she thought about Felix was in a relationship with Neon, a member of the group. And wanted the best for him, and wanted him to survive and be with the one he loved. (and as mentioned countless times before, Shayle is not a smart Zebra, and didn't consider other options).
So begrudgingly and tearfully, she received his seed inside her. But it doesn't end there.
About this time, the group found a way out of imprisonment and is blasting through the complex to find the two and the Princess. While keeping the rest of the group distracted by other means, the Empress returns to the room where the two are to see how they went with her terms. She finds them alive, huddled together, and sobbing out of embarrassment, shame, and fear. Pleased that all has gone according to plan, she moves in to get what she came for. She grabs Shayle, and using her magic, extracts the mixture of Shayle's egg and Felix's seminal fluid from her womb...and consumes it before them, then begins the transformation process. And right about that time, the Princess appears and gets them the hell out of there, leaving the Empress alone to continue her transformation.
So where does Camo's line come in?
Fast forward a bit. Eventually, the Empress finds the rest of the group and hold the entire palace hostage, threatening to blow it and everyone in it up (and will also do so if someone tries to leave the palace grounds), unless the group gathers into one room where she can warp them away. She sends them though a variety of twisted tests and puzzles, and eventually, they confront her in her new form as some large, semi-Lovecraftian beast with tentacles with jaws n' magic n' stuff. And after Scyto posted the bit where the Empress appeared, Camo had this to say, out of the blue, in OOC text:CamoBadger wrote:((Wow, zebra incest is powerful shit))
And we all found it to be quite hilarious (if messed up).
And now you know.

Heck, even the Nigel face meme has more originality xP Sure, maybe once every 6 months something marginally good popped up, one of the last I remember being a fic I was asked to collab in, in which Pinkie actually has some balls and draw her own number. But that was mostly since it didn't do all of the expected things. And I am trailing off here, sorry.
I've found two or three well-written continuations. One was The Cupcake Chronicles and I don't even remember what the others were.

Dude, I don't think Somber mentioning the forums getting scary was you at all. If I remember correctly, it was other people (possibly including myself) that made it scary.

About pony guns, it seems like they'd have serious problems with things like sniper rifles and grenade launchers.
If their eyes were even adapted for focusing long-distance (they did evolve as a prey species) then they would need to have this full-on, automated system built into a battle saddle just to hold the rifle, and even then it's not stable enough. The technicolor coats would necessitate specialty uniforms for every single sniper.
Grenade launchers fire in a huge arc. Mounting it on a battle saddle would necessitate a crazy complex rangefinder-integrated swivel affair that is just begging for malfunctions. Then we get on the fact that most grenade launchers (yes, even in FoE) are single-shot and need manual reloading

Magic for grenade launchers, both for reloading and rangefinding. Like Steel Rain's setup, only less advanced. Fortunately, magic doesn't malfunction. For sniper rifles, my headcanon was always that they'd be fired from a prone position or by a unicorn who could levitate them. Actual snipers, from what I've heard, generally have special suits uniforms and whatnot anyway, and rubbing brown dye into a coat would always work for those pastels. Later in the war, of course, stealthbucks would make all that pointless.Mister Frost wrote:About pony guns, it seems like they'd have serious problems with things like sniper rifles and grenade launchers.

Snipers generally use either standard uniforms (for urban fighting) or ghille suits (for field work). Staying hidden without a pip-buck would quite difficult without a nimble, flat human body.
