Because it's a slow process, and I think there has been an issue involving it. Something about the army cancelling the order, then ordering the newer models instead for something. What I do know is that the SCAR-L is also a candidate to replace the M4 as our Carbine, along with the ACR, newer design M4, and some other things nobody's heard of.Ironmonger wrote:You'd know better than I would.
Which brings the question of how the hell am I two years off?! o_o
@Frost: All I know is that burst and auto can suck my *buy some apples*. With burst you can get one shot on target, and the other two do what they want. Auto, pretty much the same depending on what weapon you're using, and how familiar you are with the recoil (we're talking rifles and carbines here, not machine guns or SMG's). I'd rather just stick with semi-auto, since I can get every shot from a 30 round magazine out within 15-20 seconds and still keep it on target (bragging? Me? Nah.)

Oh, I agree about the semi-auto thing. Mostly, the full-auto comes in handy in CQB, I believe. According to my research (you'd know better than I) the burst-fire affects the rifle in semi-auto, and the trigger weight can vary by as much as 6 N due to it.

It does somewhat, in that the trigger is forced to have 3 different pulls in semi because of the burst action. It sounds horrible, but when you use that weapon every day, your muscle memory adjusts for each pull and you learn to tell which one it is as soon as you put your finger on the trigger.Mister Frost wrote:CamoBadger wrote:Because it's a slow process, and I think there has been an issue involving it. auto is pretty good for CQB, but I still use semi because it's what I'm used to, and I've learned to shoot very fast with it. Probably because I paintball a lot so I'm used to pulling the trigger quickly to put more rounds down range.

Is it true that the Army uses paintball for Infantry training?

Any of you have a favorite handgun or one that interests you in particular? I've got a decent but of range time with Glocks, but I was also impressed when I fired a USP and according to my brother, the Sig P226 is also a nice gun (I just know them as "holy shit, this gun costs how much?")

The Canadian Armed Forces use the P226 as their service pistol.Mister Frost wrote:Any of you have a favorite handgun or one that interests you in particular? I suppose the only handguns I'm particularly interested in are the M1911(for historical value) and FN Five-Seven(Because they fire an interesting caliber and apparently shoot well).

The Five-Seven is great for penetrating light armor and has a huge magazine but it lacks stopping power. As far as I know the pistol is sold only to law enforcement and military ops but someone feel free to correct me.

It's available to the public, and it's lethal potential is theoretically very good because it creates large wound cavities.

Problem being that the ammo is quite expensive compared to most service pistol rands, and the wounding capacity is similar in the way it behaves to the 5.56*45: it either stays straight and goes through with little wounding, or tumbles and rips chunks out.
The U.S. Army uses the M9, an adapted version of the Beretta M92, and I've heard a lot of good things about it, after they worked out some initial kinks of an explodey nature.

I'd like to have a .357 magnum semi-automatic. Unfortunately the only ones I've found are the Deagle and Coonan .357 1911. Kel-Tec makes a .22 magnum pistol but I don't have a clue in the world what that would do.

Take a look at the M&P line from Smith and Wesson. They've got some excellent semi-auto .357's [link]

Indeed. The compact is the model I plan to buy once I get my concealed carry, naturally with tritium sights. Such beautiful pistols.

If I correctly understand what I read on the .357 SIG, that is a lot of firepower for a compact weapon. Just freaking beautiful.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
I had seen the .357 SIG pistols in the past but I've been told ammo is hard to come across and possibly pricey. I hope that isn't true because it essentially makes the Desert Eagle completely obsolete. The only reason I even liked that obese weapon was because of the firepower.

I couldn't speak for how finding that ammo is where you live, sorry about that. I only know Colorado stuff for guns, and finding any kind of ammo you want here is possible and very easy with the number of gun stores, sporting goods stores, hunting stores, and gun shows we have.

I was talking in general. After my birthday I'm going to have to go huntin' around at the local gun shops. Found me a Kar98 once.
An odd occurrence: Frost and I went to a gun show up in Sharonville, I found an Arquebus of all things.

Dafuq? Why would anyone sell that? I realize muzzle loaders are a pain in the ass, but if you know how to use it they look like a ton of fun for a range. Plus everyone there will drool as they stare at you and your marvelous piece of history

In my head I'm playing out a home defense situation.
"Get out of my house!"
*intruder reaches for a knife*
"Touch that knife and I'll drop you! Give me a minute here..." *turns the arquebus upright and pours powder in*
"Just give a minute and a half" *rams powder down the barrel*
"...Are you done yet-"
"Just 20 seconds!" *takes stick and rams a round down the barrel*

"Okay you can go back to being a robber now"
*draws knife*
"Go to hell!" *click* "Ah damnit..." *click click click* "Damnit the match isn't working, hold on..."
"Ugh..."
"Just hang on now it won't be long!" *matchlock clicking pathetically*
*robber pulls out a lighter* "Need a light?"
"Oh thanks."
I have a strange sense of humor.

If I ever had someone threaten me with a muzzleloader, I would probably just drop my knife or gun and die from laughing before they finished loading.
