Well, the story wasn't groundbreaking or complex, but it at least had one. A lot of Oscar Bait-films try to have subtle, complex or unconventional plots and it comes off as having no purpose or plot at all.

yes
and with this being a page topper i must feel compelled to actually say something remotely related to pony height
I think we could put the ponyville residents at less thn 1.2 meters at the shoulder, ungh! maybe i would need a line up of celestia's outline, with luna and one of the mane to be sure of how I would put it.
you wnt wth apples as a standard of measure didn't you?

No, we decided that the Candy Cane Scale was more likely to be accurate than the Apple Scale.Admiral Stoic Rum wrote:yes

Playing XCOM:EU and wanting to name some characters after FO:E universe characters. Any suggestions for single name characters and possible nicknames?

Four new pages and we just started getting derailed because of plot in the last page. Man I missed a ton today.
I'd read it but I'm kinda jammed into the corner just reading this on my temporary desk which is a side table and I'm sitting in my game day chair (Game day as in tailgating not as in video gaming, one of the tiny fold up numbers that's all hollow metal and two bits of fabric)
So yeah not spending an hour reading it while sitting very uncomfortably when I can spend two hours sitting uncomfortably reading the thread in the morning.

I have the same problems with naming, I'd spend hours deciding what name I want my character to have, except I've gotten past that by only using one name for all my RPG charactersOneMoreDaySK wrote:Playing XCOM:EU and wanting to name some characters after FO:E universe characters. I tend to keep the names they came with and the nicknames they earn. And the appearance; the only things I customize are the armor. It makes the soldiers feel closer to real people who got roped into this madness, volunteering to protect the planet, struggling to survive, and learning along the way to kick alien ass. Over the course of their tour of duty, if they last past the first couple ranks, they seem to almost develop personalities that I base strategies and upgrades on, and when they do die it feels like a loss of a good soldier. Rather than a bunch of silly faceless abstractions that I can freely order to their messy demise.OneMoreDaySK wrote:Playing XCOM:EU and wanting to name some characters after FO:E universe characters. Dammit, I missed the gun talk. xD
I'll just put forward the fact that I fired an M1 Garand and AK-47 at a range in Vietnam 3 years ago. There were rewards for scoring hits, so naturally I'm certain they had tampered with the sights.

Garands are freaking awesome guns.
As for AK's, I'm more a fan of AR's and similar rifles like the ACR.

Well, it's a good film if you are a fan of horror films. None of the advertising made it clear that Cabin is an affectionate spoof and homage to the horror genre, so an awful lot of people went to it with the wrong expectations.Overlong Analysis Cobalt wrote:In other news: I watched Cabin In The Woods today, finally. It's a silly film that probably fridges most of its logic, but it is VERY, VERY fun and funny. Can't really talk about my favorite parts without spoiling it, but if you like horror films, this one's definitely worth giving a shot. (Also if you like Joss Whedon it's one of his, and one of his best IMO, though if you like Joss Whedon I'd assume you'd have already seen it. =P)
Even though I'm not really a fan of horror, I was able to enjoy it, because I recognized most of the references and was able to laugh at the black comedy. Several others in my group were not, and were very disappointed by the film.

SilentCarto was doing that in his game, but just giving the troopers the proper nicknames, not their first/last. P-21 is a support character with all the grenade upgrades; Blackjack is Assault with the stupid-insane charge-in-and-crit powers; Lacunae is a heavy weapons girl. And so on.OneMoreDaySK wrote:Playing XCOM:EU and wanting to name some characters after FO:E universe characters. Any suggestions for single name characters and possible nicknames?
Me too. I was so pumped when my first trooper earned a nickname -- Sergeant 'Moose' Castillo. I didn't realize it was going to do that!Sindri wrote:I tend to keep the names they came with and the nicknames they earn. And the appearance; the only things I customize are the armor. I do occasionally made little adjustments, though. When my british support trooper got nicknamed "Kitty", I immediate changed her first name to Catherine to match, and I often have to fix a few settings because it keeps giving everyone the same three haircuts with no facial hair. Also at one point I had two troopers named Ortiz so I went in to rename one of them. But yeah, in general I leave the character generation alone and just tweak the armor colors.

I got Moose as my first heavy trooper as well. What a coincidence. On character generation, why not? My first set of recruits that I hired pretty much looked the same by some odd occurrence, exact numbers and such.
So far I have the less suicidal Blackjack 'Security' Starmaiden and Littlepip 'Stable Dweller' Lightbringer as assault classes, Morning Glory as a mobile medic support (needs nick), 'Moose' Castillo and Silver 'Hired' Storm as heavy classes (really should make her sniper and switch the name to Lac), and a sniper whose haircut made me name him Guile (full name randomized: Guile 'Nix' Mercy).

Now I sorta want to see Bellisario's Maxim as a unique LMG in FONV... It's a WW2 era Maxim gun rechambered for 7.62mm with "Do not examined this too closely" scratched into the barrel and an arrow planting to the muzzle. And, presumably, "Property of D. Bellisario" printed on the stock.stringtheory wrote:don't make me pull out Bellisario's Maxim (Don't examine this too closely) and smack you guys with it

Well, the nickname lists are by class, and I believe the training mission is scripted so only the heavy survives, so you start the game with a rank-raised heavy... So maybe it isn't surprising that two players happen to come up with the same nick on their first sergeant.OneMoreDaySK wrote:I got Moose as my first heavy trooper as well. What a coincidence.

Skipped the tutorial. Didn't want to have dead people on my conscience, especially if I could choose. 'course that made the first mission much harder, but whatever.

No idea, sorry. If I remember correctly, Somber mentioned that he thought that he might be busy around this time.Caoimhe wrote:Somber/Hinds: How's the next chapter coming?
I'm not a big gun person, but that looks neat. It somewhat reminds me of the 10mm SMG I designed for the Miliozi. That had a centered rather than an offset barrel, though, and a bottom-mounted magazine (the idea was that fresh magazines would be located on a neck harness; to reload in combat, the tongue presses the magazine eject and the head swings the gun down onto a fresh magazine in the harness (releasing the magazine from the harness could be accomplished by a stud on the gun hitting a release); to reload the harness, just ram reloaded magazines into it). Ejection was also on the bottom via a slot next to the magazine.Katarn wrote:Sorry if I'm late with this, but IIRC, you've discussed pony guns earlier..maybe few pages earlier.

That would work. You'd need to ensure that each soldier kept his own. Due to differences in facial structure and size, each pony would need the sights custom-fitted to their own needs

And for a pistol, it wouldn't necessarily need to be custom fitted for the user, since handguns don't normally have adjustable sights due to only being accurate out to 50m.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
My first to earn a nickname was an Assault who started being called "Hazard" after they charged blind into a shipful of aliens and splattered them all just before dying (1hp left). They lasted for 2/3 of the campaign with those same nigh-suicidal tactics and scored the second most kills I've ever seen.FeatherDust wrote:Me too. I was so pumped when my first trooper earned a nickname -- Sergeant 'Moose' Castillo. I didn't realize it was going to do that!
The most kills I ever saw was my primary sniper. She earned the name "Solo" when she successfully completed my first terror mission (which she started as a Squaddie) despite all four other members of the squad being killed horribly in front of her, with two of them raped into zombies. She lasted from there through the final mission and was the leading cause of death among extraterrestrials with 106 of the 345 alien kills over the course of the campaign. There were multiple times when she cleared entire maps after the (lower level) rest of her squad was exterminated by a bad ambush (and one time where she was mind controlled and had to be shotgunned by Hazard, but she recovered from that critical wound and never let it happen again. By killing everything with telepathic potential before it could see her).
Seems functional, if not particularly elegant. Reloading would be awkward with hooves, but I've yet to see a non-automated design where that wasn't true. The sights don't quite line up with the eye, but the gun would always be pointed the same direction relative to the placement of the head... I'd guess that ponies without EFS would either have an adjustable wire sight up from the pistol or crosshairs on their hat/monocle/sunglasses. The combination of an itty bitty slide and an offset barrel might be questionable... centering the barrel makes recoil easier to deal with and increases accuracy over multiple shots, offsetting the barrel further would let the slide move freely to the side of the face, putting it there seems like a weird compromise, but I dunno.Katarn wrote:Sorry if I'm late with this, but IIRC, you've discussed pony guns earlier..maybe few pages earlier.

Unlike a handheld weapon, a moutheld weapon can't move in relation to your eye. You'd need to have them custom-fitted so they actually line up with your eye.
