Actually, I'd probably go for an appointment for gin rather than tequila (gin just doesn't work as well for warming the belly as tequila--see Blackjack's commentary on vodka--and I believed that feeling would do me well tonight); perhaps Earl Juniper, or Gin? Oh! Lord London Dry!

Hendricks is the best gin, my brother swears by it. I will however continue to torrent Jameson down my throat.

On Hendrick's: that's pretty much what I've heard as well. Aviation is probably the best I've had, but Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire hold up alright for most purposes. I find that worse gin--less flavorful--is actually preferable for bulk, unmixed drinking; for that purpose, I'd go for regular Bombay.

Yeah, beer can be something you have to get used to; but the fact is it's just plain useful to like beer. When I found out I didn't really care for it, I went and bought a case or two of Guinness, and just had one or two a day until I accepted, and then started to like, the flavor.

I'm a kind of guy that looks upon such practices with disdain. Eugh, consumption of fluid that will only damage you in the long run? (Drink wine, if anything. Wine has useful stuff in it, too.) Inhaling toxins? How repulsive.

...Though I'm sure 'tis all fun for you fellas, I won't ruin it for ya. Not that I could, or want to.

You're talking about tannins, you get that from tea and other things, no really

heres the thing, wine gets its flavor and color from the skin, which is thick the longer it sits with the skin, the redder it gets,if it has a red color, you get white wine from red grapes too, the reason they are not as bitter as red wines is becuase they do not spend as much time soaking with their skins which stain the wine red, if it is red skinned. this is how you can get a rose...

anyway...

the appeal is the mind altered state in which you are far more relaxed that you would think. people make fun of those who "can't hold their liquor" only thing is its just easier for one to reach that state of mind... so its really apity to think it is a bad thing you must spend more and consume moree to get to a mental state in which you enjoy

I enjoy the connoisseurship of liquor and wine. There's so many different tastes, grades, varieties and of course cocktails. Like cheese, it also produces entirely different appreciation with age. I get tore up all the time but it's mostly the result of appreciating a good drink. It takes time to appreciate and a good session should be to enjoy the taste, not to get fucked up. I generally loathe getting drunk, but I only do it because I appreciate the process, not for the express purpose of being in an altered state. I feel drinking for the purpose of becoming intoxicated is a waste of liquor.

From what I've heard it's only damaging if you drink it regularly. I've had people tell me that one now and then is okay but don't drink it regularly. Generally I think the only place beer and wine has is in cooking.

This is my primary attitude with respect to alcohol right now. That said, from time to time it can be nice to feel it a bit, and from a social standpoint drinking is a useful tool for bonding; that's why I said liking beer in particular can be useful: it's the most popular and accessible option available for social drinking.

I have this--perhaps silly, perhaps not--perception that people who seek the usage of substance to alter their state of mind to make them happier are weak. Though of course, I know strong people who drink on occasion. Like, uh, (maybe) you guys. Not a very nice thing to think, fairly judgemental of me, too. It's weird; I'm proven wrong, yet continue to believe it. A stubborn one, I am. It's good that I can admit it. I'll also admit that, personally, I do enjoy the taste of wines and other beverages, though I would definitely not want to be impaired by them at any time, no-siree.

I love cheese. Well, some cheese. I got sick from eating mozzerella curds once, and my taste in cheese has diminished drastically ever since.

Cheese is like, .88x as good as bacon, which says a lot. You can put it with nearly everything for instant win. Heat it up, serve it cold, doesn't matter. Cheeeese.

I work cold food I just did this amazing imported cheese display and thought I was in heaven

the cheese were so amazing, had this merlot cheese, it was soaked in a merlot so the outside was stained a deep rich purple and the inside was similar to the flavor and texture of parmesan(wheel) and when you ate it, it has light motes of the merlot, but when you swallowed, it was like you just had the tiniest sip of merlot...amazing, and the applewood smoked cheddar (flavored and colored with annato oil) it was divine. I even got to taste cheddar from cheddar england, awesome. there was Cheddar with Claret, it has a kind of pink camo pattern on the cheese tsty... oh man it was so awesome!

On with impairment, there is drinking to get drunk and then there is getting drunk because you drank... a difference if I may point out. the buzz is an after effect and to really relax becuase of it is annoying for some, i don't need it persay, but I enjoy the relaxing effect just like how people enjoy that adrenaline rush of playing a game, or watching sports on television...

honestly i may enjoy getting drunk, but there are other parts to it too.
