Hey Rummy I'm redownloading Starcraft 2 over my 150mbit connection just to spite you.

I used to play... It was my one game a year back when it came out. I got into whenever the highest league was then (Diamond?) probably due to my insane typing speed. :P

Another thing, give moony some advice or something. You're wiser than me. I mean come on, Admiral Rum giving advice to a 16 year old stiflingly sheltered catholic school kid? The world will end and Moony will be corrupted for th rest of his life. I did it to my Girlfriend and now she can't help it *snicker*

We should start up an SC2 group or something. My reasoning is that playing with people we know/are acquainted with could be more pleasant than playing with complete strangers. Of course there are those out there who would be exceptions as stated above.

Hrrm. First time I played Starcraft was when I was 5. I play SC2 for the custom games, as the ladder isn't something I'm good at. I was better at SCBW. My favorite custom map types are Desert Strike and Poker Defense, though the latter has no great version for SC2.

So, I was wondering... is anyone else interested in Ravaged? http://store.steampowered.com/app/96308/

I'm thinking of pre-ordering it, looks like it would be a fun game to play -- but I'd prefer to have someone else who is thinking of playing it too, so that we could play together.

Anyone?

Well let me look at the trailers, check the images and read the box blurb
Ravaged wrote:
Crazy Fun Vehicles: choose any of the air and ground vehicles to transport your troops, wreak havoc on everything that lays in your path, while stealing your opponents’ resources.
Skilled Weaponry: Utilize the heavy arsenal of weapons to provide an equally satisfying and deep experience for a variety of different player types.
Variety of Maps: experience disparate multiplayer maps, some large enough for 32-player combat which encourage large-scale vehicular tactics. For close-quarters combat, various maps are small enough to force eight players into extraordinary firefights.
Skill Rewards: Skill-based flying and driving styles reward players who master them, turning them into the deadliest weapons on the battlefield.
Play as one of two competing groups: the Resistance, a group of freedom fighters trying to rebuild society, or the Scavengers, a band of roving marauders hell-bent on claiming everything for themselves. Both sides offer five unique classes, each with its own specific weapon load out.
So this is Battlefield with no destruction, less equipment, some crude humor with a post apocalyptic feel. There's a heavy helio, a light helio, three types of jeeps and some guns.

Ehh... not doing it for me, I don't see enough to make me want to shell out 25$ for a game that's going to be similar to BF3, especially with that price point with BF3 sitting at twenty two maps and running like the well oiled triple A title it is at 29.99$ in stores.

If there was a single player or the combat was more 2142 then maybe but I'm not feeling it.

See, that's where you're wrong. My OC lacks wings, the only trait inherited from the Changelings is the ability to alter one's appearance and when shifting, or using magic, his eyes take on a more changeling-esque appearance. Chrysalis

The "power level" of a character really doesn't matter unless you're writing a strictly action-based story or a video game, IMO. Sure, if there are no challenges that the character can't be expected to easily overcome, there's no tension, but challenges can be more than just physical. Maybe a black-and-red Alicorn named Nightbringer Bloodravage (whose talent is making things explode by glaring at them) has to go home every night after slaughtering countless invading changelings and wonder if he isn't somehow a murderer - after all, it's not like these creatures pose a threat to him. What is he fighting for, anyway? (And why do the changelings keep throwing themselves at him?) The story could follow his attempts to try to negotiate a peace agreement behind Celestia and Luna's backs (despite having no training and, at the start, no idea who to talk to), even as he continues to single-hoofedly defend Equestria. True, due to the meta of MLP fanfiction right now, I'd recommend not making that character in the first place, but he could be made to work. Context is very important.

So, yeah, I have no idea if your character is overpowered, but that's not necessarily the question you want to be asking, anyway. :) (other people can probably provide better answers, don't worry)

Post by O. Hinds Thu Sep 20, 2012 3:16 pm

Cptadder wrote:Look the point of the thread was could the SS exist given it's projected abilities before the end of the war and the lack of counter measures.
My counter-point is that it could exist without any counter measures IF one of three things were true

A. It never saw combat action before the end of the war
B. It was so widely successful that no survivors managed to report this new Zebra wonder weapon
C. The materials to produce the SS made it so expensive that less than a dozen were produced and they were retained for defense.
Or
D. The generator was in some way unreliable or the first combat usage was a disaster that inspired the SS to be killed off shortly after it was introduced.

If you want to accept any one of those explanations (Or a mix of explanations) then it could exist, if not then it has a hard time fitting into FoE canon based on observable combat technology, trends, measures and counter measures.

A weapon without a counter is either a weapon that ends the war or a weapon that never really existed.
That's where we stand in my opinion at the moment.

The problem is that none of those reasons address why the SS would get approved in the first place. The existence of just one of these planes would catalyze Equestria to develop countermeasures, and those countermeasures would, when implemented, probably once and for all lose the air war for the Zebras. That means that the war would have to be won by the Zebras before that happened, and there's no way that the number of SS they could build could do that. Combined with the amount of normal materiel or possibly more effective superweapons that could be built with the resources that would otherwise go into the SS, it just doesn't seem to make sense to approve anything more than the construction of a prototype, and I doubt that they'd even go that far.
