says the new chapter is terrible, it turns out especially
awesome.
Main thought:
Also great artists quite often hate their own work and have extremely low opinions of their own ability. It's the inverse part of the Kruger-Dunning affect as they don't think anything they do is ever quite good enough, even if they write some epically epic story involving alcoholic, telekinetic ninja cyberponies in the post-apocalypse that's so epic that you have to come up with new words to describe its epicness.
WovenTales wrote:After all, a Fallout/MLP crossover makes no sense.
I know this is a bit of a tangent, sorry:
Thinking about it, I think Fallout / FiM works as a crossover because of the combination of strong characters + strong, dynamic environment. Obviously it still takes a very talented writer to pull off the gestalt, but FO:E and PH are not awesome in spite of the bizarreness of the crossover. It's because that creating characters that are endearing and putting them in an apocalyptic, but open-ended environment, with ever present but ever distant hope, with those things you have the ingredients for epicness. I haven't actually played Fallout, but the impression I get is a proper combination of the two parents is all about these things. FiM has very strongly written characters, likable, flawed, relatable, fallible, diverse, and entertaining. PH has all of those things as well. It also takes place in an environment where ponies are all but forced to either change for the better, change for the worse, a little of both, or die.
So good on Kkat for navigating that brilliantly and on Somber for potentially topping her.
Also, Somber, if you're reading, plz take care of urself.

What I've found so far:
- Spoiler:
Missing " in the beginning.I wish I’d known you were doing it, but if I had I would have told you not to and you would have done it anyway. ‘Cause you’d never let me die if you could prevent it, just like I wouldn’t let you die if there was a way for me to save you.”

I've seen one where The Wanderer crashes an alien ship and ends up in the Everfree. Didn't like it much, though.
Or even if they are, as I could imagine someone writing an FoE/Fallout cross. (Well, that'd be fun, wouldn't it?)
Could be fun, I guess.
That story has an interesting premise, but I have to say that the writing isn't as good.
Well... It can be improved. Compared to the absolute mess PS used to be, I'd say it can definitely get better. And I like the psychological and societal aspects.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Just my thoughts...heh...I think it's actually first time, I'm trying make a review or somethin' like that...so:
- Spoiler:
- @Goddess 'controlling' BJ
Well...that escalated quickly...and it's ~week till LP blow her ass by megaspell. My suggestion? More dirty thought, BJ...it will either amuse Goddess or disgusts her...or she'll try to take control over you sooner, to stop that waterfall of thought...okay, don't listen to me, BJ.
@Glory punishing BJ
You know...at first I didn't get what's going on...maybe something lost in translation...but when I get what's going on....that mental image of mine...
Also. This melody popped up in my head. Maybe it not really appropriate, but why not? (Wanna feel it - Vibrolux)
But if anything would help BJ with her 'I will help everyone, even if I got killed', that would be good ol' spanking....and if it feels good...okay, Katarn, stop right there....that scene should be drawn..um...for...science?...
@Shujaa's memory Well...that was really interesting. I don't even know what to say.
@Ending ...Dat ending Could it be more awkward? I wonder if Dawn just...hm..'mocking' BJ and Glory told her everything..or it might be one of most awkward ending-cliffhanger that I've saw.

Absolutely; Fallout (especially 2 and 3, but it could be debated endlessly) has a notable lack of three-dimensional characters. FiM doesn't. On the other hand, Fallout has a world that requires adaptation and presents constant challenges for the characters to resolve. FiM provides that only to protagonists. Fallout applies it to everyone. It's an interesting mix.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Got to the new chapter within the night this time, because I really don't need to sleep anyway!
Commentary might be a bit sparser than I usually do, but I found myself without much to say about a lot of the proceedings.
Commentary might be a bit sparser than I usually do, but I found myself without much to say about a lot of the proceedings.
- Spoiler:
- Chapter 50: Selfishness.
Whelp.
“...I heard the Goddess chuckle darkly.” I figure she’s wondering why she didn’t assimilate Blackjack sooner. I mean sure BJ is too broken to be a real part of Unity, but watching her across the Wasteland would have to be hilarious.
Ookay, not sure I want to think about Scotch having “three or so” herself. Wasn’t she, like, prepubescent? *shudder*
“‘...Daddy,’ Scotch Tape said...”
…
SQUEEEEEEEEEE
…
Ahem.
Wait, not telling Glory about the Goddess in your brain? I understand not mentioning temporarily dying again, even if I’m not sure if I agree with it, but what possible purpose could hiding your alicorny connection serve? And how exactly do you expect her to not notice?
Yeah, pretty sure that Twilight was Tarot’s biological mother. Have been for a couple dozen chapters, but a bit more evidence only helps.
Ooh, the Star House has a basement? With lights and everything?
A basement full of books? Best house evar!
Orb? Ooh! Wait. no. Bad. If you go diving now something will attack, and you don’t want Chapel to ever be attacked. Go out into the wilderness first. And bring... Rampage I guess? Lacunae? You aren’t allowed to be alone but your options are suddenly limited...
Well, and least she has Boo watching over her as she sleeps. And probably reacting adorably to her Blackjack suddenly going comatose after touching the shiny thing.
Ah. Can’t tell Spike about the connection either. Blackjack isn’t being an idiot this time, the Goddess is forcing her mouth shut and Blackjack’s just thick enough to not notice. Clever. More subtle than you generally associate with the Great and Powerful one. Here’s hoping that Glory gets the whole story from Lacunae while nobody’s looking and starts her own plotting...
“Really, I was starting to respect her even more than the Stable Dweller.” Okay, that thing I just said about Blackjack not being an idiot? Nevermind.
Wait, why is Blackjack so shuddery about cannibalism? 99 was all about the recycled food sources. The murder is objectionable, but not the eating afterwards.
Woo! Score one for the inebriated blur! Now you just need to make sure to be really drunk for all further important information gains, and the Goddess will remain clueless!.
How many more days until the Goddess goes boom? Like, four? Six? Too damn long.
Congratulations P-21, you have the highest sanity score in the party. Followed by Scotch. Really, your little family unit there is starting to look downright functional.
I take back every bad thing I’ve said about Blackjack and the Stable Dweller and Littlepip, because this is just such an effective method of trolling the Goddess.
Time to see Charity, and then take a journey to the center of Rampage’s brain.
Caprice is working for Charity. That’s... awesome. Sorry to hear about Flank, but really looking forward to Charity building up a tyrannical trade empire to put Keeper to shame
.And Precious is guarding the vault. That is the best thing and I demand fanart.
...People who’ve lived in the Hoof their whole lives, been in its rain nigh-constantly for years, and still build heavy, unstable structures and sit in and under them in a storm? Medly’s passing is a terrible tragedy. But a big part of my mind keeps saying “Darwin Award...”
So the zebras had full simulacrums by the end of the war? Robots indistinguishable from zebras except by emotional response or cutting them open? There’s pretty much no way this isn’t going to be relevant later. In fact it might explain the Remnant, if their leader isn’t just obsessed with tradition but actually operating on their programming from centuries ago...
I believe that is confirmation of our old theory about how the talisman went from Shujaa to Twist, albeit in a more dramatic manner than I had foreseen. And the Equestrian army must have really been scraping the bottom of the barrel for recruits by the end there; not just disobeying direct orders, but fragging your commander?
New pegasus? Dawn?
...This should be interesting.
- One possible typo?:
- "'Contact!' a mare screamed in the night, and then the air filled with the buzz of two machine guns sweeping across the assembled ponies."
Should this be 'the assembled zebras'? As far as I can tell Twist is the only pony in the firing area, and it makes more sense for that fragging idiot to be killing the traitor legion than spinning around to massacre their own troops in the distance.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Another fine chapter - I don't understand what you worry about Somber!!
Like other's mine isn't a particularly long commentary, but the chapter was excellent regardless.
Like other's mine isn't a particularly long commentary, but the chapter was excellent regardless.
- Commentary:
- “Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! Are you okay?”
-Definitely not the followup I was expecting…
“She screwed up her face and snarled in disgust.”
-Glory SNARLING IN DISGUST? This is worse than I feared…
“I get it. There’s something wrong with me that you don’t want to deal with, but couldn’t you have told me first?”
-So very much worse than I feared… Poor Glory. D:
“Glory, it was now becoming very clear, definitely did not have the same opinion.”
-Lo and behold, it finally begins dawning on our not-very-clever pony.
“Hey, Blackjack. How many times did you have sex with my mom?”
-Scotch Tape the saviour. I’m guessing Blackjack will finally learn how sex is outside her Stable?
“Glory backed off and sat down, looking at me as if she’d never seen me before.”
-I expect this is where entertained though of the off-time in the relationship truly begins?
“I sighed, slumping. Enough about the epic failures of Blackjack. “How have your last three days been?”
-Bad Blackjack, bad. Not a good direction.
“Maybe she’d been Rarity’s cousin twice removed? Or had some Apple in her? Who knew for sure? It could all be one big coincidence.”
-So you shed light on the surrogacy process, just to say it all means nothing currently? Oh you. :P
“Then two hooves wrapped around Marigold and yanked tight as the mare shrieked, “Here I am!” And then everything fell into darkness once more.”
-Very interesting, this…
“Somepony… anypony… help me…”
-Oh shit. This is bad. Hurry up Littlepip!!
“She frowned as she pulled the sheet off her face and looked away, chewing on her bottom lip. Finally she sighed and said, “Just a thousand different things, and half of them contradict. Mostly, I want to feel like I’m in charge of things. Like what I want matters. Like… I want to be more like Dusk. Confident I can actually do things. That I matter.”
-Glory feels. I want much the same…
“Yeah. It sucks,” I said as I moved in front of her. “Welcome to Hoofington!”
-Hoofington is a cunt.
“And your Stable Dweller is LittlePip!”
-FINALLY!!!
“Oh, sure. Like I was going to believe anything she said!”
-Or not. HOW LONG IS THIS GOING TO LAST?! xD
“And because he was good, he dove in and swam deeper and deeper. And thus, he drowned. When he died, there was nopony to help the poor, the hungry, or the weary. And so, they died too.”
-Oh crap. Blackjack, you can’t do everything…
“Yeouch!” I yelped as Glory whacked my backside hard.”
-Pavlovian conditioning here? Treating Blackjack like a dog and punishing her when she has negative thoughts?
“I can tell you how the talisman got from Shujaa to Twist,” I groaned. “She put it there herself.”
-So sad… Bloody pony…
“A pegasus mare sat calmly in a wooden chair while Scotch Tape and P-21 sat together on the couch.”
-It’s Dawn.
“Glory sat perched on a stool, looking utterly petrified, her body completely covered by the sheet.”
-IT’S DAWN.
“Her flank had a brand on it that was nearly identical to the one that had been forced upon Glory.”
-IT’S DAWN!
“The mare smiled gently. “My name is Dawn. I was hoping to speak to you... and I was wondering if you could tell me where my daughter Morning Glory could be found.”
-IT’S DAWN!!!
…Goddamn cliffhangers. xD
- Errors:
- “I knew love was serious. Abuse was a serious. Rape and coercion for sex were serious.”
-It should be ‘Abuse was serious.’ There’s an extra ‘a’ there.
“I know you’re trying hard to do the father thing, Dad, but could you me a little less... erm... pithy?”
-Instead of ‘me’ it should be ‘be’, I believe.
“If that damned blue weed had turned me into anypony, else I’d be fine.”
- Should be ‘anypony else, I’d be fine.’
“Goodiest good pony is the Wasteland,”
-Should be ‘in’, not ‘is’.

Somber, thank you so much for writing this story. To Hinds, Bronode, and Snipe as well. Thank you all for taking so much time out of your lives to give this story life.
As always, I'll try my best to get the full commentary done as soon as I can.

- Initial thoughts on the chapter:
It was, of course, great to see more of Boo, and to see Caprice again. The way you dealt with Blackjack and Glory was nicely handled too, I think.
But... that scene with the Goddess... that hurt really, really bad. I don't think I can possibly express just how much it hurt...

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Well, the latest chapter was really good. Not a ton of action but it does need a break. Goddess taking over, reminding everyone that she is actually really evil (I forgot she was really nasty for a while), the plan to help Rampage and the back and forth between Glory and Blackjack was great- also another really good cliffhanger.
Out of the blue I have no idea where it's going to go which is an exciting prospect.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
- Spoiler:
- Liking the start of the chapter, Glory showing both sides of herself with throwing her [Blackjack] against the wall and then asking if she's okay, only to carry on being angry as soon as the answer is 'well enough'.
Glory in her righteous anger, showing her true insecurity. Very well written thus far, very, very human in that.
...And then Blackjack decides to be a fucking moron and say "Oh, maybe I DID do it a little for the enjoyment..."
Jesus christ Blackjack, I think even -I- have a little more tact then that. (HEY, I SAID A LITTLE, OKAY?)
P-21 IS HERE TO SAVE THE DAY!?!
P-21 and Scotch, I never expected them two to be doing this, but... what a point. There's definitely a good point behind their points, and it's funny to see Blackjack admit to having around 50 ponies or so.
...Actually, she sounds exactly like one of my exes. (She had 61 guys before me, which was a fuckin' shock to find out.)
Because she needed to, indeed. If she hadn't slept with him, how would she be able to handle the wasteland again? She'd already proven that she couldn't, she needed the chance to show herself that she could trust males, if not fully then at least a little. Not everyone is the person (or people) who attacked you.
Interesting to see Scotch already notched up three though.
So, just got to the 'break' where Blackjack says if she's not worthy of Glory's love... yadda yadda yadda. I like it. I like how you handled the first meeting, how P-21 had been trying to calm Glory down and make her feel better, trying to explain everything. I like how Glory ignored it all because of her own upbringing being such a stark contrast, unable to understand why until a face to face resolution.
Onwards!
Very touching with Glory sobbing on the bed. All this is a complete shock to her and she still can't understand, perhaps doesn't want to believe, but knows it's true. Damn it's hard on someone when this happens.
I've not been in Blackjacks position on this, ever. I have however, been in Glory's, and I know how much it really strikes the heart to have such a tormenting and painful experience rip you apart like she has.
D'aawwww, my god. I'd almost forgotten about how soul objects can see/hear/sense (or something) and how they can choose to do things as they wish. I mean, yes the statuettes are a prime example of that, but I still haven't really come to think of them in that sense, as much as I should've.
Octavia helping out Blackjack at a time like this would be absolutely amazing and an utter honour.
Thank you, Ocatvia.
Damn, Blackjack fessing up to possibly/probably badly hurting Glory's sis.
And now it's the filly part and Glory's crying and again, exceedingly well written, as always. I wish I had more to say, you deserve a lot more to be said, but I'm just so engrossed that I find it hard to think of anything other then what's next, what's next... gotta read on and on without pause.
Makes it hard to do reviews.
Bitching about others always makes one feel good, eh? Ha. Glad that things moved to a more solid ground of topic.
Both of the two going through body issues, interesting to see Glory is getting biological level urges to exercise to high degrees (as you would with such a body, I reckon -- wouldn't know personally since I've always been slightly overweight but from what I can tell from the super fit people, it's a drug to them.)
>Not letting Glory know you died again
>1250AD (After Discord) (Est.)
>ISHYGDDT
hahhahaha. Glory going red at the spanking idea. Sounds good.
And at the next break. Good to see that Blackjack is FINALLY going to be sensible and take a break, stop focusing on herself and instead, on her friends and make sure they're better before even considering going out again.
Also, yes, I agree that if the Harbingers show up, she SHOULD show them the full force of Security, without hesitation nor mercy.
The only mercy worth giving is the mercy of quick justice.
Hmmm, detective Boo huh? Finding all the clues to Blackjacks mystery. Just got to the point where Boo falls over in the box and reveals a new orb. Really cute imagery, can't wait for Ryx to draw that.
Again, got too engrossed with the story. Whhhhhhhhheres pinkie pie? HERE I AM!
Anyway, again, as always, very damn well written. I wish I could think of something else to say, but I can't right now, sorry. You deserve a lot better, thankfully, someone else will fill that gap for me.
Discussion with Watcher is interesting.
I'm sorry Somber, there's nothing I can say. I'm just too far stuck into the chapter and can't think of anything, despite how much I'm enjoying it all. I'll post this and maybe post again tomorrow or something like that, with the other half of your chater post-reading review.

@O.Hinds: (R34) No, no, not that. Our comment thread usually split at page 34 you know? This time it went over that by a few pages :P
And ah, seems like SOMEONE else than me remembered Yay! And you call me perverse *gigglesnorts* I win this round xD
@Cao: No, no, I am sure you mean "Get yer mind IN it"
@Vali: Seems kinda interesting, and technically leans in to approve one of my "things" hehe. But won't have time to read it, seems interesting though as said, and also seems to appeal to the whole "anatomy" thing.
@Iron: Well, I do try to both make sense, as much as I can, and not be dull hehe.
@Inco: (Stables) As said, has kinda been already been done, unless you mean "lesser known" or "unknown" stables, like the one I made, stable 69 (not to be confused with 89, the "fake" 69 xP Nor the actually side fic one that somewhat recently popped up. But as said, made my stable like, a year ago or so. But yeah, would technically have to change number if I ever want to throw it in.) I originally wanted 42, but that was already taken when I made it. As said, mentioned it before, but base premise was that it only had mares in it. To see how/if they would build their society/rules differently if they only were mares from the start with no male influence at all. And it was planned to "jump" between the main 3 characters each chapter.
@EP: And hey! Looks like the worst time possible to make a new comment, but what the heck, cba to wait 1-2 days to post heh. Will not be able to read it today, but will make a chunk of it hopefully. And uegh... sometimes I really hate my mom. If she at least could stop comparing me to my sister. "She has a boyfriend", "she's studying medicine", "she's won gold medals in both the world, and the European championships". And some people wonder why I have an inferiority complex... anyhow, looking forward to reading this, and I hope to Gummy it will not be a huge let down or disappointing like large parts of some of the other recent ones. But eh, who knows, Somber writes what makes sense to her.

But eh, who knows, Somber writes what makes sense to her.

here's something I think needs fixing:
- Spoiler:
- "“What
it means is, I suspect your idea might work. By transferring the
memories the souls have on death to Rampage, we might be able to piece
together an understanding of how Rampage came to be,” Lacunae said in my
mind."
I might be wrong, but I think you mean to say that if you transfer the memories to the orbs... 'cos they're already IN rampage.

Okay reaction time, spent a few hours knowing there was a chapter today but being unable to read it because of life.
Right then reactions
What I liked
The fight was a lot shorter than I thought it would be but it flowed well.
Oh hey it's Boo, and she has plot details! Thanks for stopping by Boo
Pinkie Pie does have slasher villain powers doesn't she? No matter how fast you run and how slow she bounces she always beats you there
Another Watcher conversation! I always like these carefully done links back to FoE... Champion in bed
What I noticed
First off the Glory+Blackjack confrontation played out as "" envisioned it to begin with so point goes to "". But the fact the 99'ers stepped in and Glory started pummeling her good, hmm partial credit?
P-21 has a hat, when did he get a hat? Is it a Applejack hat, and if not why do I imagine him with a pony shaped John Deere trucker hat?
Scotch Tape having set backs is good, to many people think design work is easy
The Goddess is talking in her normal bombastic voice when threatening Blackjack is odd
Interesting Charity dislikes Scotch for having a parent, that's one of those obvious in retrospect things.
Ahah so Glory IS into the dominatrix thing, and her safe word is apparently Rainbow Dash... that's all kind of messed up
And hello Glory's mom.
What I disliked[/b]
No boats were dropped on Blackjack this week.

That's such a perfect 99'ers analogyBlackjack wrote:That… she was upset about that?” I muttered, trying to wrap my head around it. It was crazy to be upset about sex. That was like… like being upset because somepony stole your carrot chips in the cafeteria.
I love how that comes out after Glory is hearing about what happen to Whisper, in context it's adokrable like "oh yeah the batpony who shagged my girl hooked up with the crazy pony... good for her.. I guess?"Glory wrote:Well… good for her…” she muttered.

But that my dear is how MAD Science works! Nothing trumps Science but MAD Science!Best conversation wrote:“The only theory I’ll accept,” I thought bluntly at her. “If we don’t find any proof, then we keep digging till we do. Like with science. And if we still don’t, then we lie till we do.”
“That’s not how science works, Blackjack,” Lacunae told me with an air of infinite patience.

- Spoiler:
Glory flipped zero tables and threw Blackjack through zero windows
The flow of the building collapse and drowned filly was all over the place, I had to re-read it three times to get what was going on and the whole village staring at her felt forced considering the collapsed masonry and trapped pony
No boats were dropped on Blackjack this week.

Hey.... question did Blackjack ever tell Watcher that she let Discord run free? More and more I wonder about that. About who knows he's free and what he's up to.

@Kattlarv I can relate to that a little. I have a brother 8 years my senior with an IQ of 240 last time I checked, and while I'm above average myself I feel completely stupid or straight-up mentally disabled when I'm around him.
Also I figured out (I think) why its a bad idea to compare to Somber. He did most of the story while unemployed so he had a ton of time. I think he also has a passion for writing which makes him lightning fast at writing. Unlike me who writes as a hobby an has a busy-ass day and little free time. It's like comparing a Sherman tank to an IS-2.

Wait 240? On what scale? The standard Stanford–Binet Intelligence Scales go from 0 to 160 with scores higher than 170 being impossible to get even if you factor in age bonuses (Someone who's 14 taking the same test as a 30 year old both getting identical number of correct answers the 30 year old might get a 140 while the 14 gets a 160 because of age factors)Ironmonger wrote:@Kattlarv I can relate to that a little. So 240 on what scale?
*Edit
Another factor with the Stanford Binet is it's periodic revision as it seeks to graph average intelligence meaning a 1920 test is easier than a 2012 test as average human intelligence has been increasing by a two point factor every generation which means the average score of humanity is twelve points higher than when the tests were first administered thus the scoring system has been adjusted for that fact.

@Cptadder @P-21's hat. It's hat from (sorry forgot the name) a pony from mine, who was left barely alive by Sanguine, after BJ was 'augmented'

I'm unsure of what scale or test. The only data I can offer is that my mother told me this and she was serious, she doesn't know what test or scale. That's why I said 'last time I checked' because saying something so debatable as final would be dumb.
