Sorry, Kipper. *hugs* I really am happy you like how that picture turned out so much.
Of course, I would be the only one to have Caprice's eye color memorized but not remember who Steam was... Well, I remember her now, at least.O. Hinds wrote:This is from chapter… 30? (I used the combined Naller
document. (By the way, I don't remember who made/is making that, but
thank you! It's quite useful. I was also able to get a friend into FoE
using the ebook file downloads from the site.))

Somber wrote: Everything’s
big when you’re little, and trying on Mom’s things was a way to prove
that I was getting bigger. That someday I’d be all grown up and ready
to take on my job as a security mare. I was going to be a pony who
saved ponies! So I trotted out of Mom’s room wearing her security
barding and a helmet so big that it rattled around my horn like my
teacher’s bell. It was all I could do to not trip and f-- whoopsie.
One misstep sent me sprawled out in a tangled mess of blue. I blushed
furiously as I pushed back the face mask enough to see if Momma had
noticed.
But Momma was crying. I’d never seen Momma cry
before. It wasn’t a thing mommas did. Most grownup ponies never cried
because they were grown up and it was silly for a grown pony to cry.
“Momma…?” She must have been crying because of what I did. I wasn’t
supposed to touch Momma’s work things. Especially not her shiny gun.
“I’m sorry, Momma. I didn’t mean to.”
She sniffed and
looked at me with a small smile, even though she was still crying. “Oh!
Oh, Fishy. I’m sorry. No, sweetie, you didn’t do anything wrong.”
She spread her lavender forelegs wide and pulled me into a hug. Now
she was laughing and crying at the same time, but apparently I wasn’t in
trouble. My shame transformed into confusion as she kissed my horn and
wept in my mane. “You know Momma’s friend Steam? Well, there was an
accident.”
Ooooh, accidents were bad. I knew this because I caused
so many of them myself. Steam was always a funny mare who brought me
highly illegal and very fun toys made from maintenance supplies. Steam
also brought toys she took into Momma’s room when she and Momma made all
the oohs and ahhs and ‘yes’ noises doing stuff I wasn’t supposed to
know about till I was in filly school.
“Well, Steam was hurt very badly,” Momma said as she nuzzled my ear.
“The
medical ponies will make her all better, Momma!” I said, trying to
explain the obvious. The medical ponies made everything better, even me
when I’d stepped in a radroach trap poking around maintenance where I
didn’t belong. But when I said that, she shuddered and held me even
tighter. “They can make anything better, Momma.”
“Not this, sweetheart.” Momma swallowed hard. “She’s dead.”
Dead? Dead. Dead! Dead dead dead dead. Deaded? Deads? It sounded like a stupid word. “What’s that mean?”
“It
means that she’s not alive anymore. She’s gone, and we’ll never see
her again,” Momma said quietly as she hugged me tightly, looking with
her sad pink eyes as she nuzzled me. Now I was starting to cry too.
Gone? Gone where? And why? This was stupid! Steam made Momma and me
happy! It wasn’t fair that she was gone!
“Well, just… go and bring her back!” There. ‘Nuff said. Momma could do it. Momma could do anything.
Except
this. “I can’t, Fishy. Nopony can. She’s gone into the everafter to
be with the Princesses. So I’ll see her again, someday.” She sniffed.
“Until then, I’ll try to be the best pony I can be. So that when we
meet again, she’ll be proud of me.” That didn’t make any sense, though.
If she was gone forever, how could Momma see her again?
“How, Momma?” I asked in confusion, blinking up at her. She stroked my mane gently as she hesitated, then smiled.
“Everypony
dies someday, Fishy.” I held her and heard her heart beating. And
then I had the thought. That horrible thought that every foal has
sooner or later.
“Even you, Momma?”
“Even me, Fishy.” She said it
so gently that somehow it hurt even more. Like a dress rehearsal for
when the day came. “But as long as we remember how they loved us,
they’re never really gone. Okay, Fishy?”
“Yes, Momma, I’ll remember,” I’d promised. I’d forgotten a week later, till now.[checks]WavemasterRyx wrote:"She
trailed off as her blue eyes met mine and widened in shock." - If I do
recall correctly, her eyes were originally described as being pink, so
this might need to be corrected, or decide which color works better.
That out of the way... *hugs Caprice tight*
Ah, you are correct! Thank you.

Yeah, I did think that this was one of the
important parts of the chapter; Blackjack needs someone with different
issues to serve as a surrogate conscience, and Glory fits the bill.
Throw in using it as a tool to keep them together, and how well each
side fits their needs, with BJ needing a way to relinquish control in
order to remain sane and Glory needing to cope with her abandonment
issues, feelings of impotence, etc., and it really is a great
development that makes a lot of sense. It's also interesting to look at
the contrast between Glory and the Goddess, each of which is taking a
role in controlling Blackjack, for different purposes and using
different means.
As for the safe word...my original reaction was
"Best safe word ever!" but it did make me think about why Glory would
choose it. I mean, it's basically one of her great fears at the moment.
Why set it up to be brought up like that?
- Spoiler:
- It's
definitely exactly what they both need. As for the safe word, yeah I
think as someone else already said, basically it's Glory saying that she
needs to do this, that they both need it if they're going to stay
together. So if it's too much for Blackjack, then they can't be
together, or something... I'm sure whoever it was that already explained
it did a much better job.

I keep waiting for Glory to catch herself ogling a male and then go “CRAP, Rainbowdash WAS straight!”
Heh,
the kitchen. I wrote up a sketch based on the idea that Glory was
trying to make food that Blackjack would hate. Really putting all of her
effort into it being horrible, and it turning out as food that was
impossibly good. As a direct result, as soon as Glory and Blackjack made
up, Scotch and P-21 would have to come to terms with no longer being
taste testers for the crazy amazing cooking.
Unfortunately, I
couldn’t come up with a punchline, so it will just have to remain an
amusing situation without a satisfying conclusion.
Given how
strongly Trixie takes to mind control, I’m surprised the little prodigy
didn’t pioneer some spell to do as much at some point in her career.
Blackjack:
“Mmm... nice grass pie, P-21. It seems like it needs something, though.
Do we have any rad-away left? Especially any that’s been “recycled” a
few times? That and some cram would make this!”
P-21: “Blackjack, stop trying to gross us out, it’s not going to work.”
Blackjack: “Ugh... where’s Littlepip when you need her?” >_>
*a few years after the day of rainbows and sunshine, Blackjack and Glory are visiting Homage in her broadcast studio*
Blackjack:
“Oh, and Homage, I wanted to tell you that, after years of rigorous
training and experimentation, we beat your record! We got a 36!”
Glory: *blushes* “Blackjack, you can’t just say it like that...”
Homage:
*bursts out laughing, tapping on the console* “Oh my gosh, really? 36?
Congrats, you two! I gotta say, though, that’s hardly a record for us,
now.”
Glory: “...it isn’t?”
Homage: “Nah, more of a low average for when we aren’t particularly in the mood. The new record’s a 52!”
Glory: O_O *promptly faints*
Blackjack: “...whelp! Back to the mattress!” *throws Glory over her shoulder and trots off*
Littlepip over the console: “...did you really have to broadcast that little exchange to the entirety of Equestria?”
Homage: “Yes.”
Littlepip: “Sigh... why do I have to love you so much?”
Homage: “Well, the 52 can’t hurt.”
- Spoiler:
- - An amusing thought, though I'm sure the Enclave cared more about saying how much of a traitor she was rather than taking notes on her sexuality. I'd give it bonus points though if it happened while she was staring at P-21.
- Indeed, another quite amusing thought. It's really too bad you were never able to flush it out completely.
- There are actually quite a few other fics where Trixie has developed a kind of mind control / hypnosis spell, so there definitely exists precedent.
- Poor Blackjack, and poor P-21... and Poor Blackjack and Glory in the second one. But those were both quite funny pieces, as were some of the others in your review.

That reminds meBy itself I hate it unless it's part of an ensemble. A solid black gun is good looking, a black gun with gold highlights is trying to hard unless those are family colors or House colors or part of your hero outfit.Ironmonger wrote:I Off topic but what do you all think of a black revolver inlaid with brass or gold?
Bronze and gold are very similar in that the shinyness and color scheme are similar. One is darker the other much lighter and shinny unless the brass is well polished in which both will have that same rich yellow tone which works with some things but not fire-arms unless it's part of a larger design or theme.
Thanks for the input captain. It has religious significance and it is my family colors. It's also a metaphor for "From the darkness, light!"

BJP-21 offends me because it makes no sense and I want my gay characters to remain consistent, damnit. Yes, BJ's bi but P-21 is so blatantly gay that a conclusion like that is just mind boggling to even think someone could postulate it.
P-21 is a very well written gay dude too, because he acts like a character who is gay and not a "gay character." he's not a stereotype or an anti stereotype, he has a soft side to him and natural awkwardness around uncomfortable situations.
Tangent:
Er, anyway, I want a scene where P-21 explains the gay mind to Blackjack because she is not a smart pony and clearly she still doesn't see it. I think it'd be hilarious. Also Scotch having some conversation with someone where she says something like "MY GAY DAD."
I have no idea why I want my headPH to be a Curb Your Enthusiasm style sitcom comedy of manners right now. If everyone lives at the end and maintains some sense of normalcy I'd love to see a 10 chapter epilogue of just hanging out and living in the post-adventure world, these characters are just too fun!
You should get a sword done like that. Swords are more timeless and traditional, if you descend from a swordy culture.

Internet culture and talk and memes are one of the things I hate the most, I feel dumber every time stuff like that is brought up).

That's pretty awesome. Any idea what the carrying capacity and max movement rates are like?Cptadder wrote:And this has nothing to do with PH but man have you see what DARPA's robo mule has advanced to?
This is what it was two years ago when everyone got freaked out and felt sorry for the robot as we mean humans pushed it around an icy parking lot at about thirty five seconds into that video.
Now it's gotten to the point at which it can stand up if it falls over, it's speed over rugged terrain is much faster, and oh yes it can recognized and follow individual humans on command. Picking it's own path and it's own speed to stay at the distance you tell it. You speed up, so does it. You stop and take cover, it lowers itself down, you can on the fly order it to switch to someone else or switch the distance it stays away from you.
DARPA proves again and again why it's such a wonderful thing to exist since it sets out these challenges and companies rush to meet them for the prestige, the prize money and the promised contract if someone does build us a four legged armed and armored deathbot.

It's my favorite thing about the story, and while it ending would be bad enough, the idea of P-21 and BJ and ending up together afterwards would just be awful. What are you guys thoughts?
Either they're trolling, never read the story, or are the kind of blind idiot shipper that picks people at random and refuses to acknowledge anything to the contrary. In any case, they're not worth talking to.
Nope. No need to worry, because it will just never happen. I could see Glory dying, eventually, maybe, but that pairing will simply never happen because it's completely against both the characters and Somber is neither a crappy writer nor a victim of recent major brain trauma.canitnerd wrote:But the idea of BJ and P-21 being together? Oh I didn't mean she'd flirt with him, but I could totally see her missing the whole thing with Priest and go looking for a new mom for Scotch/mate for P-21 which would lead to a big sigh and one of those great "No, Blackjack..." conversations.

Cptadder wrote:Mentioning George and A Song of Ice and Fire always draws me in because I love that series and have read all five books multiple times now. The thing A Game of Thrones and a Song of Ice and Fire is known for is a very Obi-won "from a certain point of view". In Book 1 we spend our time in the heads of the Starks, Dany and Tyrion as the only Lannister. By book 2 we get into Davos and Theon's heads as well and suddenly everything is not as clear cut. We get to book four and five and suddenly everything gets muddy. The Reapers are a good example of this in PH, Gorgon was a pure monster until we got to visit his apartment in the arena and see his little goodbye note or we go memory orbs and see what Doof was like before he became Deus. He's still a rapist bastard but until that act he had nothing but my respect lack of intelligence or not at least he was a loyal and well meaning pony. Likewise by the time book 3 roles around and you get to get into the head of Jamie Lannister... suddenly nothing is as clear as you thought it was. This is still the guy who did that terrible act but now you understand why he did what he did and how he's become what he is today.IncoherentOrange wrote:
I'm aware that PH isn't smut; I never said that. It's an adventure. (Of colossal size, longer than many 'epic' pieces of literature.) I could compare it to, say, A Game of Thrones, by George R. R. Martin and the surrounding series. That contains sexual content, and for reasons other than having smut in the story (but also for making some characters more 'evil' than others, Jaime Lannister, for example, is obviously a villain, and the story's use of sex is much of the vehicle for telling the reader that, if I recall correctly. But again, my reading comp. isn't super). Or perhaps I could not, as the general themes are not the same.
Yeah, it's a neat thing, that perspective he uses. I read through most of A Clash of Kings, and the varying perspective and grey vs. gray morality, and working for one's house and self, is done well and more extensively as it all goes on, but the book confused me at the time, as I decided to read it before completely processing the first book. Mostly, it was the names. So many names. My father likes the series as well, but finds it subject to sequel decay. I'll read that through again someday, after my next read of Rendezvous With Rama, by Arthur C. Clarke, which I first read five years ago (which means I was nine). It's really cool when characters have human motivations, and aren't paper-thin.
@P-21/Blackjack I don't even have to read the story to know why that won't happen. After all, this is the stallion that shot BJ in the ass at his first opportunity, if I recall from my brother's tales correctly.

P-21/Blackjack ship doesn't work. It simply doesn't. Blackjack would probably end up crippled going after Glory's killer(s), since Glory doesn't look suicidal. Though she'd likely succeed in killing them, she'd need rather massive help to get back to her hooves, or she'd die, because without Glory, she'd be incredibly reckless.
Beside that, there are other issues with their relationship that aren't minor obstacles.

Craaaaap you guys are spammy... I'm only two days behind, but SO MANY PAGES...
You're not the only one. I had no investment with the filly except being a name I'd heard before, and I was too worried about BJ and Glory to really react beyond, "Welp, guess you shoulda listened to Scotch."Harmony Ltd. wrote:I have to ask : Am I the only one that was left... jaded (?) by the death of the yellow filly in Chapel ? I felt nothing. Maybe it's because I wasn't reading it properly, in the right state of mind ? So I ask, how did you react to the whole scene ? Did it impact you ?
Don't think they have one. What exactly isn't a swordy culture? Most of Asia and Europe, and all their colonies, are swordy cultures. So maybe 3/4 of the world is swordy culture.

I didn't say africa. I know native amerians aren't, but European americans are. Australia was an English colony, and england had a swordy culture. South America is tricky, because the cultures of the natives and the europeans mixed. Antartica is argueable, because each major country has a research station there, which I believe is the equivalent of an embassy. Not to mention Ninja Penguins.

It'd have to be Somber, wouldn't it? Or silentcarto since he started it.

It would be silentcarto then. Somber is like Odin in these parts. Only better.

I would be the true leader. Though my actions aren't the most prominent and my status not the highest, I openly challenge any of you to test my leadership qualities... in battle.

@Tytan: you asked what isn't a sword culture, so I gave you examples of places without a sword culture. I wasn't disputing you. Also I think that despite being an English colony, Australia doesn't have much of a swordy culture. Now I am disputing you, for clarification.

There's only two interpretive dances I know.
One of them involves my cock, the other involves someone being thrown over my shoulder.
take your pick.
