Well, that is if you meant something more invasive than simple social engineering, like actual mind control. Call me a bioconservative there, but the concept of Free Will is a thing I'm really attached to, even if it might not have a physical or scientific value.swicked wrote:*rolls eyes*Harmony Ltd. wrote:fuck noswicked wrote:be able to control human behavior

Actually speaking of gattaca genetic engineering is now becoming a thing. They found out that you can trick cells by inserting the dna and then removing it. The problem that they were having before was that since the dna segment is randomly inserted that next time the cell divides there's a chance the person could develop cancer. For some odd reason inserting the dna and then removing it makes it work. You'd have to ask someone that works with genetics, but it's really weird why removing the strand would work.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Yes.swicked wrote:Ever seen the movie Gattaca?Harmony Ltd. wrote:strangely enough, only the poors and racial minority will seem to show these "genetic traits"swicked wrote:or be able to identify genetic tendencies toward violence at an early-enough stage to abort.
Eugenics is rooted in Classism and Racism, a point that movie helps show across.

"eugenics"
I actually had to stop and think / search the internet for several minute to remember the correct word for the concept, as it had slipped from my mind.
Thankfully a look at the page for "Brave New World" gave it back to me.

There is, indeed, a lot to be said about the wider social benefits of generalizing mental healthcare as much as we have generalized physical healthcare.

@ Frost : Yes, that is a good example, if an extreme one.
To loop back to what started this current line of discussion, a greater availibity of mental care would go a long way into breaking the cycle of abuse that generations are victim of (parents abusing their kids, who in turn abuse their kids, etc...).
From a purely economic standpoint, it would likely increase productivity per capita, as an employee in good mental condition is less likely to do shit job when all other factors are removed from the equation.

Debate about topics that don't really need debating shut the 'giveashit' center of my brain down and 'fucks' start to build up. Symptoms include a general malaise, depression, and explosive ass syndrome. The best course of treatment is a nice healthy discussion about topics including, but not limited to: video games, breasts, ponies, boobs, internet related things, breasts, movies, gazongas, interesting books, sweater puppies, guns, love pillows, and head canon.Harmony Ltd. wrote:How so ?Tytan wrote:All this debate is filling my brain with fuck.

Well, as far as I can tell, we aren't debating. Simply discussing and exchanging ideas.Tytan wrote:Debate about topics that don't really need debating
But that's just my own point of view.
Edit : on a more general note, on cases like these, you are free and welcome to propose another subject of discussion. Simply asking people to stop talking about something, unless it's actually upsetting / hurting someone, isn't really productive.

I'm not asking you to stop, I'm trying to change the subject.
How about this, Breaking Bad might get an opera.
Or this, GTAV will be coming to the PC in 2014.
Or this, X-com enemy within has a preview out now.

Trying to change the subject, implicitly, means putting an end, or at least a temporary halt, to the discussion.
Anyway, GTA5 isn't on PC yet ? That just goes to show how much I don't care about it, then, that I didn't know that.
As for Breaking Bad, I still have to get into watching that show, now that it has ended. I don't expect to do that before January or February, though.
BY the way, this makes me think I should remember to watch the last few episodes of Attack on Titan I haven't watched yet before saturday...

Personally I like it. Â The only people that didn't like it were the people that say anime should follow manga, but realistically speaking you can't have a anime 100% follow a manga cause it'll become a trainwreck like what happened to fullmetal alchemist's original anime's storyline vs brotherhood's storyline. Â Fullmetal alchemist tried to follow the manga's storyline before the manga finished and look at what happened to the ending. Â In trying to keep so close to the lore that ironically the anime massively deviated from the manga. Â Which is why they released brotherhood, cause they were like, "We can't let this go like this, we need to remake it so that the anime is in line with the manga".Harmony Ltd. wrote:

I could really talk your ear off about why the people who are upset about snk's season finale are wrong, but I'll just make it short: Â The attack on titan's season finale was in production before the manga chapter was in production, so if you read the manga don't get upset at the anime. Â It's also why the studio is delaying the production of the next season cause they want to wait until the manga is done to make the next season so viewers don't get upset again.
Tl:dr; It's good considering that the episode was in production before the manga chapter, and considering the negative reaction they got from fans they're going to wait until the manga finishes to make season 2.
Tl:dr; of Tl:dr; Imagine if the harry potter movies were in production before the books, that's the fundamental problem about anime's relation to a lot of manga.
I give the season final a 8.7/10 considering it was in production before the manga chapter.

Personally, I don't really care about conflicts with the manga/anime/whatever. As far as I'm concerned, if you can make an anime a straight adaption of the original work; fine. If you can't, then don't sweat it and just make your own damn story. Just about every production team goes into making adaptions in full knowledge that they'll end up having to change some stuff anyway.
Most of the time, I'd just enjoy the chance to get two stories set in a world I like (think of it as an AU sort of thing) though sometimes one or the other is just crap that's not worth your time (ex: the Berserk anime back in the 90's that was a watered-down mess that covered the least mature and fleshed-out arc(s) of the manga)

The thing that a lot of people don't realize is that what caused a lot of franchises to turn into utter garbage was fans demanding faster episodes that are true to the manga. This causes the manga to have to hurry up which screws it up as well.Mister Frost wrote:Personally, I don't really care about conflicts with the manga/anime/whatever. It's why naruto is so terrible cause the fans were demanding episodes with the central(non-filler plot) being 100% accurate at a rate that the manga couldn't keep up so the anime started releasing the fillers and such while the manga just stopped caring about quality. If the people who make the show and the manga had just told fans to go fuck themselves it would have been a lot shorter, but decent.
The best option a anime studio and a manga studio can do is to tell the fans that go around demanding a new episode or new chapter every week to go fuck themselves.
It's why brotherhood is a lot better than fullmetal alchemist. Fullmetal alchemist they cave into fan pressure to get new episodes out faster and faster, where as studio bones with brotherhood just told people to go fuck themselves and let them do their job.
