Well Swicked, when you've been on the ride for such a long time and you've been growing tired of it, wishing certain aspects would stop appearing/happening and you finally stop giving in and just accepting it, it feels liberating.
There's a lot I don't like about Project Horizons and knowing for sure now I won't bother trying to catch up since I never even began 59 (though I knew I wouldn't try catch up unless it finishes soon when 60 was released) means I haven't got to debate with myself if it's worth trying to slug through the last portion.

I'll read the final chapter, perhaps the one before it too for a small amount of context, but I highly, highly doubt I'll be reading 59+ thanks to Somber doing this.
I hadn't enjoyed it like I used to in a long, long time.

Ya know.... during a recent conversation with a group of people from here the question was asked "Does anybody on Cloudsville still actually read PH?"
I let out a "I do" but if they heard me over everything else said, such as "Obviously since they're still on the site." and "I stopped reading it during chapter X when character Y had ____ (usually sex) with Z", I don't know.


And I just gotta wonder... is there something wrong with me? Like, am I not fully invested in the story and the characters and that's why I can continue on when others stop? Am I just stubborn and waiting for the story to finish before exploding?

I just don't know. And it's not like I don't see their point, that I don't understand why those things bothered them to the point of making them quit. Just that those things didn't bother me enough to make me quit. But once again, maybe I'm the one who's not invested enough that I don't care what happens.

For me, it was too much stupidity too often. I know that's a broad statement, so here, let me break it down into the core elements:

Blackjack is always whining about doing better, but she herself never really does better. She whines and whines about how you shouldn't kill and true, she tried to avoid it for a small while, and then again when the Harbingers come. But she never actually does better. She just stagnates and moves from place to place doing things.
The only exception to this was the Society. Even with her actions in Flank, she never really helped them get better, she just built some defences for them.
It feels hollow and annoying when you've heard it a thousand times before without any change in behaviour.

The constant need to one-up itself is also a horrible, horrible mistake. Enemies getting bigger and badder only works for so long before it becomes stupidity. Aside from Rampage due to her stupid ability to never die, everyone on Blackjack's team is now only half as useful as they ever were before and for someone like Glory, that's a pittance when it comes to combat. I'd be willing to forgive her lack of combat skills if the relationship was meaningful, but it's not.
I had hopes. I wanted Gloryjack when it first came along. I was hoping it would be a beautiful union and that it would mean something.
These days it feels just like 'lets fuck, now I gotta wear a dog collar because I'm a stupid bitch. woo so sexy' and to top it off, the whole 'I don't love Glory, she doesn't love me' thing that happened while riding Deus pissed me off a lot too.
It's flat, it's stale, it's rubbish.

The story is following a fucking tree in terms of storyline. Instead of being a road with one or two bypasses to go down, Blackjack is going from the roots into the main trunk before going down each and every god damn branch to try FIND, SEE and DO everything. It's fucking stupid and only serves to needlessly expand the wordcount.
There's a lot that could have been cut, that could have been done better, that could have been shortened and still work overall. There's a lot that should have been spoken about in the beginning but then never touched upon after that to really make a real world feeling.
The story is just grinding away on fumes now and it's irritating as fuck because I spent so much time and gave so much dedication to something that was originally amazing and just turned to shit with time, but I was too blinded with what had come before to want to let go. I was still hoping that the glory days would return and I would be able to enjoy it like I did at the very start.

But you know what? No, of course that won't happen. And you know what also? This song, this fucking song written for a movie mainly aimed at kids holds a lot of fucking lessons Somber should have learnt years ago:



And then there's the fact that EVERY CHARACTER EVER IN THE ORIGINAL SHOW HAS TO BE IN MY FIC! AND EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO PIP IS BECAUSE OF BLACKJACK! AND BLACKJACK IS MORE IMPORTANT TO EQUESTRIA! AND I'M TOTALLY COOL AND X-TREEM GUIZ! WHISKEY AND SEX EVERYWHERE MAKES ME COOL!
To add some of the original characters is cool, but killing Pinkie, having Rarity get into a relationship with his own OC, having Fluttershy get into a relationship with his own OC, having Twilight have implied relations with his own OC, having Twilight be in a relationship we never got the slightest bit of a whiff to in the original, having his OC have implied relations with Luna...
There's too much bullshit for anyone who is really involved to not question and either accept or call bullshit on.

I just don't have the energy to keep caring these days. Not enough to keep reading, but I'll admit I do want to see it end.

I mean, most stories take at least a second read to see all the deeper stuff, and Somber's an English teacher. He knows the rules and tricks of writing, so much that it's likely even now we still only see part of a whole, and we're all missing they thing that would let us understand what's happening. 
And then there's the problem where people try to take ownership of the PH characters, and fidgety that Somber knows them far better than we do.

And now there's been a theory that pisses me off to the extremes posted about on 4chan - Luna might be the one behind the harbingers by being the one in the maneframe.
And you know, Somber made some bullshit scene where someone who is implied to be Luna in disguise has their mind put into one of the maneframes by mistake when trying to put it onto Goldie instead.

...If Luna is made into the bad guy, I will flip my fucking shit. I will be fucking mad as all fuck.
That's another thing Somber fucks up COMPLETELY.


Fallout's history is about corrupt governments bombing each other into the radiation-age.
My little pony is about friendship and how it can pull things back together if you try hard enough.
The whole fucking reason Fallout Equestria ever worked as well as it did was because it explored 'what if friendship fails to pull two nations together?' and NEVER blamed Celestia, Luna or the mane6. Their attempts to fix Equestria were always with a heavy heart set on good intentions.
Somber fucks that whole thing up by trying to deepen it with bullshit conspiracies and making the government corrupt again. He fucks around with the events that led to the end times and he fucks around with their intentions and actions entirely to the point where it's not the same fucking story but his own twisted version.

He would have been better off writing purely Fallout or something, at least then his gloom and doom unable to be happy attitudes would completely fit the scene.
Or better yet, get to writing the story he was on about where it's all his own creation, his own rules, his own world.

But by the gods, if he fucks around with Luna like that. As one anon said:

By this point the whole 'we don't know the characters' is a bullshit excuse for the established characters (aka main party).
I'll accept it for new friends and foes. I'll accept it for rarely seen characters. But for characters we've followed all this time?
Even Scotch. We should know who they are by now and there's no excuse of 'it hasn't ended' that changes that.

You wouldn't forgive a story of 300,000 words if it was coming to an end and there was the same issues there are here because 'oh, well PH spent a lot longer developing its characters'
Hell, most novels that you'd find in shops are roughly 90-120,000 words and yet they have time to develop their characters to the point where you know them.
There SHOULD always be room to learn and grow, but not to continue establishing who they are.

Then I ask what your problem with the mane 6 being involved in the story is. Would you be fine if they were the exact same characters with different names? Are the mane 6 and all canon characters supposed to be some untouchable picture to be set up on a pedestal, never to be touched or used, by virtue of they came from somewhere else? And they, the princesses, and the Zebrica leadership were all blamed for the end, because of their misguided attempts to fix things.

I've no issue with him using the mane6. It's the way he uses them and the way it doesn't work with the original.

True, but his fic originally tried to do so and only stopped once he realised Kkat never would read his work.
If he had just used OIA members in their place, I would have been absolutely cool with it.
I wouldn't have minded at all if OIA members were the ones to do the fucked up stuff that Kkat never had them doing.

I'm neither way on using canon characters from the MLP-verse, but messing with the way the original story uses them... that's my limit.

So yeah, I won't go further unless others really want me to because I don't want to upset anyone else or make others pissed off at me, but there's my answer to your initial question.

Dunno man. I still read and really enjoy it. It's more of an emotional thing than a logical one, since I do recognize that several of the complaints raised above are valid. I do, however, still really adore the main characters. It's a bit like Mass Effect 2, where the writing is oftentimes a bit iffy, the plot twists a bit too "ZOMG COLLECTERS WERE PROTHEANZ!!11!", but the characters are just so fucking fantastic that it's worth it. There's this chemistry between the members of Blackjack's harem posse which just makes them mesh together so perfectly that it compels me to see what happens next.

It's funny how people who claim to be 'over' PH and not care about it anymore spend so much effort trying to convince others that PH is a horrible monstrosity and Somber should be ashamed for doing such horrible things. There's always some line crossed, character X did Y and it's ruined the story or was the last straw, there's too much powercreep, the XYZ never ends, and on and on. Now I won't for a second deny that PH has some crazy brands of ridiculousness, but it's had that character from the start. (And I love it.) PH was from the beginning a darker view of Fallout Equestria, it was always over-the-top-is-perfectly-realistic, it was always going to have its own backstory and it was always going to send BJ straight through every shit-storm. There was no bait-and-switch where Somber lured innocent souls in and then stole all their candy. Nothing anyone could have said or done would have changed PH from what it is. I would think that the stable that became a rape factory is indicator enough that Project Horizons doesn't give two shits about the correct or proper way of doing anything.

And guess what? It's not going to end. After Somber finishes writing PH, sooner or later he's going to write something else, and if some people don't like that story but think if only XYZ? Well, tough. It's not their story no matter how much anyone says they love and hate it.

Firstly, it's a single player game, and an easy one at that. It's not competitive in any way whatsoever. Secondly, in my experience, people who say things like this are usually terrible at said activity. Thirdly, I don't care.
