By the way, I said "movies which influenced me". Doesn't mean they have to be -good-. Hey, a number of people have a relationship with the Star Wars movies which would qualify as "life companion", while I myself find them to be just tolerable.

For starters, I don't read any superhero comics - Watchmen being the exception, and it's a one shot anyway.
Also, comic books => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comics
Far more than just DC and Marvel

Oh, I'm definitely aware. Green Arrow just fits in along with those movies you listed.

I don't read comics, I'm always reading something where the main focus is history or science. If I'm not doing that I'm usually role-playing with Frost and my other friends or working on Armed Redemption. Despite that being a short list, I've yet to figure just what takes up so damn much of my time.
What the hell.
EDIT: Actually it's not that surprising considering my quirky memory.

Starship Troopers is a visionary film! Literally. It predicted the future.
In the film, the Terran government has a city destroyed and blames it on the aliens (who probably didn't even have the capability for that) in order to rile the population up for a war with them (which is probably pointless and will cost thousands of Terrans their lives).
Cue several years later...

If I had the energy right now, I'd kick it into maximum overtrolling, but I haven't.
You kids will just have to make do with the scraps I've left for you to fight over from the other day.

SPEAKING OF TROLLING!
- Ed Edd and Troll:
Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy was one of Cartoon Network's original programs created back in the late '90s. It's a pretty simple, wholesome show about three kids (all named some variation of Edward) who ... really, they just spend a lot of time trying to scam the other kids on their block. They're kind of assholes. OK, so maybe it's not so wholesome.
You know what else isn't wholesome? Dead kids. This theory proposes that all the children on the show are actually dead, and the neighborhood they live in is purgatory. But then again, they said the same thing about Lost and it turned out to be bullshit (mostly).
For one thing, some of these kids already look like they're dead: Pretty much everyone in this neighborhood has weird skin tones or odd-colored tongues, like corpses might have.
But then there's the fact that there are no adults in the show: They're mentioned, but never seen. You do see vague silhouettes of adults on a few occasions, but they never move (yeah, that's not creepy or anything). The closest thing to an adult we ever see is Eddy's older brother, whom they meet the only time in the entire show's history when they leave their neighborhood/purgatory. However, the guy turns out to be a complete piece of shit, meaning that it's totally feasible that they were simply visiting him in hell.
This would also explain why the setting of the show is so hard to pinpoint: In one episode, the kids are seen using a typewriter, despite having been shown using a computer in another, and they seem to know what a cassette tape is, unlike most teens of the 2000s. The theory holds that this is because each one came from a different period in American history:
Rolf, the weird kid with the inexplicable Eastern European accent, died in the early 1900s in a farming accident. Johnny, the one whose best friend is a plank, comes from the 1920s, when owning a piece of wood with a face painted on it made you the most popular kid on the block. Jimmy, the sickly kid with yellowish skin, died of leukemia in the 2000s, and so on.
The theory also alleges that there's one set of characters who aren't dead, but not alive either. The antagonistic Kanker sisters, who frequently abuse and berate all the other kids on the show, are actually demons placed in purgatory to torture them. Coincidentally, they are the only regular characters who have pink tongues ... just like non-dead people do.

I don't get much nostalgia, but when I do it's typically related to things like the VCR. And Homeworld, Starcraft and Diablo 2, which are the first PC games I really remember playing aside from some educational ones.

Nostalgia time? When I was a small child my dad read my sister and I The Call of Cthulhu as a bedtime story. I started playing D&D when I was seven years old.
I can't actually think of any movies that have had a big impact on me... I've loved The Pirates of Penzance for a long time but it hasn't shaped much as far as I can tell.
Game-wise I sank... a lot of hours into Morrowind long ago, and continue to do so sometimes. I started when I got it as a gift, then continued because it was closer to a real RPG than anything else I'd encountered, because you started as a nobody and forged your own path to being a hero instead of walking somebody else's plotline.

Not even later Elder Scrolls games have had quite that feel... in Morrowind I remember on one playthrough I skipped the prophesy, killed a god, and went through the last part of the main quest backwards. Now it's all compass arrows and invisible walls and fixed movement rates and jumping heights...
Modern "open world" games have a lot of different stories to choose from. Morrowind let you ditch all the stories and do whatever the fuck you want.
The engine and graphics kinda suck, and the AI is often laughable, but the feel of the game...

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I preferred just getting lost in the world, it felt so much more meaningful as you could help (or screw over) almost anyone you met. There wasn't usually just a generic dungeon, everything had a little story behind it. It's been years since I first played, and I know there's still so much more I probably haven't even touched on. However, the only thing I didn't like (aside from early leveling up) was....

One of the devs actually admitted that they misplaced a decimal point on the spawn chances for those abominations. Now it's worked its way into the lore. Like that saint who was canonized for driving the racers out of a region. Or the fact that dragons once ruled every part of Tamriel except Morrowind, because they were driven out by swarms of cliff racers which blotted out the sun...

My first game was Doom II: Hell on Earth.
I still play it sometimes, with mods though (most recently it was BrutalDoom).

Well, as usual in those case, if you can't give yourself, you can always pressure others to do so
