People have been saying for years now that the LCS is a really bad design : it's a vessel the size of a frigate which doesn't even have the armament of a corvette and cost the price of a cruiser/destroyer.

I haven't been keeping up much with the navy, but the price tag and the design itself started making me think "Does the US really need a new design? Why not upgrade our existing stuff rather than replace it?"

If I were to be mean spirited I'd say that some lobbyist somewhere convinced the right people that making a series of 24 ships would ensure enough jobs to keep employement in the concerned naval yards and ensure activities for all the involved sub-contractors and suppliers for a bit of time.

You know, being able to say that the budget proposal you voted will bring the bread home for a decade makes you quite popular toward a large part of the electorate when you're a representative.

As for the the officers sitting in the panels which approved the design I suppose they have guaranteed employement opportunities at Lockheed-Martin and General Dynamics if they ever were to cease working for the government.

You've done things that have affected us, not to mention your fans on fimfiction, in positive ways, you're important to us. We care about you, and we think you're pretty fuckin' great. - "The Wall", for being a fucking masterpiece of ART, and for having bored a number of imageries into my mind.
- "The Wave", for its reflection on the nature of fascism and its dynamics.
- "The Fifth Element", I don't know how many times I've seen it, but it's always at least as good as I remembered it. Some hate it for the cheese, good thing I'm French. :v
- "Starship Troopers", a masterful satire and a superb science-fiction / action movie. "Surprinsgly deep when you think about it". And don't talk to me about the book, I've read it, and the two things have nothing in common apart from the basic premise.
