In unrelated news, I finally got Oblivion, and I'm enjoying it quite immensely. I can definitely see the influence it had on Fallout's mechanics, particularly in the Attributes--I still remember the early-game book, "You're SIWASEPL"

I openly admit to being a horrible person. I'm honest, if nothing else. I've made jokes about terrorist attacks and school shootings that happened the day prior. Not proud of it, but I'm sure as hell not going to lie about it either.

Yeah, I won't deny I can be pretty harsh when pushed. I'd apologize, but I don't particularly direct it at anyone who doesn't start shit first. 

On an unrelated note, I just finished seeing the Hobbit. Given both Dwarves' and Dragons' mutual inclination towards greed, mastery of fire and heavy armor, and tendency to habitate in caves, we've come to the conclusion that Dwarves are, in fact, the larval form of Dragons. There are no seen Dwarf women because all Dwarves are, in fact, genderless, and--upon gathering enough gold and steel to build a Crysalis, they develop into an initially small and fairly vulnerable Draconic form that grows the more minerals and organic materials it devours until it grows large enough to lay a great number of gemstones, that are buried deep in the earth to gestate. If not mined up, these egg-seeds will grow into a full-formed (and bearded) Dwarf that develops its intense strength and affinity for earth as it digs itself free (in the process, this perpetuates the myth that Dwarfs simply spring up from the ground to reproduce)

Also; in discussing Oblivion, we came to the conclusion of what should be a new feature in Elder Scrolls IV: the canonization and recognition of Climbing, perhaps as an actual skill, with a set of perks and abilities related to it, but definitely putting in animations that show the character scaling a steep surface, and perhaps gloves, picks, and specialized boots to enhance the speed and mobility on steep surfaces--and, in bringing in throwable weapons like hatchets and knives from Fallout (recoverable, as arrows from Skyrim are) adding in a grappling hook with a rope (of fixed length; longer ropes are more expensive and weigh more)

Also, carry weight would affect your performance (and the rope's chance of breaking) here even more than it would in general movement; though I'd also argue for carry weight being vastly reduced anyway--possibly to what could conceivably fit in a backpack and/or on pouches and holsters on the body

I'm all for grappling hooks, so long as they're realistic

Having a chance for the rope to break would also spice up the gameplay (Maybe a skill that lets you see the strength of the rope?)

Or you could grab a horse and scale any vertical cliffside with hilarious ease...

I think grappling hook would have mechanics like un FC4.

But I doubt they would introduce 'climbing' in first place.
