To be fair, Rich did have an accident which severed the tendons in his right hand and prevented him from drawing for like six months.swicked wrote:

He was still sending out incentives for the donations he received, like, a year or two after the fundraiser closed.
But yeah, the thing about Kickstarter is that it's really easy to get overambitious and end up failing to meet your promises. Often times, I think a lot of people end up underestimating how successful they'll be, which is perhaps better, but it means that they end up overwhelmed by the demands.

As long as you're transparent being overwhelmed isn't an issue.
"Update: Hey guys, I got the keychains I'm shipping the first batch on monday. It's going to take a few trips to get all these things through the postal system so it might be a couple months before you get yours. It's not really in the budget to hire people to do this and I need to actually spend some time working on the project. So please bear with me."
Easy, no ones calling your honesty into question and while some people still will probably be pissed most people will likely understand.

There's also perhaps the fear that admitting failure will affect their chances in later business opportunities, especially for folks who are trying to go professional in their chosen field. Of course, not meeting your promises will also affect said business opportunities.swicked wrote:...some people would rather not say anything than admit they are overwhelmed. They get afraid of disappointing people and, ironically, just avoid the issue, pretending it doesn't exist and ticking people off more.
I've known people who were so stressed out by tests that they just didn't go to class those days. They obviously failed, as a result, but people and weird like that.

I would bet all my clams on "I'm betraying you." being the last thing Max said to his "most loyal friend" before killing him.
I just gotta wonder if Dash's night terrors are her re-living the ritual that summoned her.
- Spoiler:
- Hadn't thought of that. My working theory is that it was a memory from Dash's later life, which she doesn't seem to remember. True, it was said that Rainbow died peacefully in her bed of old age, but that doesn't preclude something cataclysmic happening that split up the Bearers beforehand (remember that, in their later lives, Twilight had completed her book, Harmony Theory, and uncovered the terrible lies that their lives had been, by all appearances)--if, of course, the records are correct. Keep in mind that the Post-Schism historians don't even know that Nightmare Moon was an Alicorn, let alone that she was Luna, and have no idea of who Discord is. Fuck, they've never even heard of the Elements. If those details could be missed, misattributing the deaths if the Bearers is hardly a stretch.

- Spoiler:
- Twilight said that a proxy event like what happened when Trixie and her crew used the elements was that far short of a true Harmony Event. By all indications, the events we've seen thus far in-canon are true Harmony Events.Â
The removal of the Elements from record and history (including later editions of all Twilight's writing, save Harmony Theory itself) is addressed in a later chapter, but by all indications Umbra had nothing to do with it--unsurprising, considering it's only by great amounts of cajoling and persistence can Twinkle Shine get Umbra to act with subtlety and subterfuge rather than her preferred methods of "kill-slaughter-burn, ashes-death-ashes-shadows-ashes, rape-the-land-and-burn-the-women". If she were to try to remove records of something, it'd be less "hand-pick specific texts for destruction" and more "burn down the library"Â
One theory I'm forming is that, by repeatedly using the Elements against Discord, they managed to pretty much put him through a kiln--they first trapped, and then warped, his chaotic nature until it resembled something "good". All that was that other part of him--that destructiveness, that malice and mind-warping power, was made alive and given birth to in a backfired Harmony Event that resulted in all of the bearers' deaths. The Elements, by this point, had been consigned to be forgotten by all save the Princesses, so their violent and terrifying deaths were instead recorded as "peaceful deaths of old age" which only served to obscure the truth of Umbra's unnatural life until she struck.

When Star started saying she thought the elements were familiar I thought their erasure might have happened relatively recently.
when the changeling attacked dash, astrid and star in the everstorm, dash and astrid were completely thralled while Star literally shrug it off. Astrid even later said griffins are trained to resist mind magic like you get from a changeling (probably because they are used to hunt them).
So Star, being almost unperturbed by a full-power mind control blast, has freaky levels of will... or is just relatively incompatible or resistant to mind magic. Either way, she being one of the pony ponies with a vague memory of a recent continental mind wipe would then make sense.
- Spoiler:
- Unless I'm mistaken, Star resisted because her magic-dampening spell (used to pass through the eye of the Everstorm) was still on its last legs, with just enough juice left to let her know that 'Strongheart' was a Changeling. Gryphons, by contrast, are trained to resist the subtle methods changelings usually prefer, not the brute-force attack Calumn resorted to out of a mixture of eagerness and desperation.

In chapter 12 Calumn says "Cash wouldn’t be vulnerable to his power, any Magic Talent unicorn could fight a Changeling’s mind magic."
Anyone with a magic talent can shrug off changeling mind control, so that was the trick.
Calumn is ticking me off a bit. He's squeamish and anything but bold. He sees a dozen ways to escape a prison and he waits to see if he can learn something, getting tortured and locked up all the better later on.
Plus, it's absurd he didn't grasp right away that "Swifty" was killed by Max.
I otherwise have a certain respect for this Max guy. He talks too much. I suppose it's fine when he's got little better to do, but it's a little annoying reading his stories that go next to nowhere.
Gotta love how he deals with "rivalries", though.
In any case, sweet, he kills his most loyal friend, brings back the embodiment of loyalty and gains the ability to inspire disloyalty in others.

Lieutenant Hard Boiled also begins to factor in.

And that is the main problem with what you expect: I AM comparing a thing that make no sense whatsoever, with another thing that makes no sense whatsoever. At times even directly. (like the one I wrote as a reply. THAT LITERALLY HAPPENED.
I can however agree to quiet a degree that I tend to blow things up a bit. Just a habit of when I'm annoyed, especially have been for a long time on a topic that's not gotten resolved in any way.
And the reason I link those two, is because BJ is, or well, more and more inexplicably as she was replaced by new chars with the same name, looks and abilities, become more or less an embodiment of all those things. She just does things because "hey, that's how things are in the 21'st human American society!", and most just nod and agree. Like, the heck? When did that become a go-to point for a post apocalyptic pony world? Why are so many things anchored around this? I get that we live here, but that makes no sense to base a entirely different world on.
And I know what a red herring is. Just having utterly illogical and retarded things while entirely skipping their counterparts is NOT a red herring. Like said, it's not much different from ex: if we'd be following a pacifistic, human loving orc in the 40k universe. How did he become like that? He was raised by Humiehacka! And everyone just murmurs in approval. Like, where in the actual fuck does that make sense? They became the exact polar opposite of everyone else around them and how they were raised because plot convenience? BJ comes off as a semi-mindless drone. And she doesn't despise her mother. What reason does she have to rebel radically against every single thing she's ever been taught? Along with just discarding all remnants of it after like, 5 minutes out of the stable. She's more schizo than Rampage ffs. Just slapping on a entirely new personality whenever it fits the story. How am I supposed to make similies to things that don't make sense? I guess I could exaggerate a bit less, granted...
... and seriously? If that's your reasoning, Somber would be the freaking president of fox news. As that's literally like, a quarter or third of what they do...
And eh, can try. I have very easy to trail off however. But like said, I do kinda flip a bit when I hear people just go with a "Yeah... I know it's bad, but I just try not to think about it" or simlar "solution" to PH's issues. Has Somber isolated themselves lately or something? As I recall the editors used to bring issue up with them... which tbh did seem to make him squirm or something... as I recall a few meek story responses to it, then it just suddenly stopped and went "flip the table" on caring a single bit about anything, and just went with whatever they felt like at the moment.
@Frost: (as above) You have to excuse me if I don't share your enthusiasm for treating issues with the same apathy as someone spoiled and/or that's not negatively affected by it.
Granted. Aside from fixing it, I don't really know what to do about it so... I guess it can be a bit repetitive if none wants to give shit about it.
But likewise it's equally annoying to hear people give lame excuses about it. Or why they tolerate/ignore. it
@Tytan:- Spoiler:
- Welp. Two of those words, or 1 ½ technically made it in there. Twice each. So didn't make it. Least it's shorter than usual, and less of it... also, how come you're failing to use spoilers?
And the reason I KEEP DOING IT. Is because you know who keeps doing it, along with a large majority of those here. The whole "eh" attitude towards it comes off as so lame to me. This past year alone, I've heard between 50-70 people pull the "I just ignore it/pretend it didn't happen" or similar reasoning. (Like, "That was fixed due to this fanfic I read that corrected it") Like... what do people have against trying to fix it? Or was PH given a "Only positive feedback allowed" status? Everone just hushes and goes "Don't go there!" like it would cause it to implode. So yes, I've already reached my breaking point. But I mainly credit that to the large amount of hypocritical fucktards in the  pony+furry 18+ community. It quite hastily sped up the deterioration of this. I swear, the thickness of some people makes me want to get Jinxed sometimes... (both scare and appeal to me that I know just the person to make that happen though...)
And ha! That's not an understatement. Tends to be a bit of a chance die for me to roll. I either am fully understood by all, or by not at all by none. Tends to be a all or nothing. Either and/or when it comes to people understanding it, along with how it's received. Largest issue is that I really don't know what method of delivery would work. As everything more or less required it's own unique, special way of delivery. I could really use a translator at times I think... still recall that one time we had this hub-bub, then don't recall who, (to give it dramatic flair) swooped in, explained what I actually meant, and literally everyone went "oh..." and agreed with me. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't expect or want everyone to agree with me. Like happened prior, (though, it is nice) I just want the same level of "oh" and understanding. Like, understand why it bothers me so much, and what exactly I mean with it.
And dunno if you'll read this follow up but: Eh, read this post after the first. Least I tried to cut it down as said.
@Valik: (Video) Ha! I actually needed that xP And ah... such rare jokes to see.
@Katarn: (work) Can't help you there.
@Harmony: (Sims) Had a similar experience as with the pokebank with that. With pokebank it was "We'll get you one right after this game, It'll only take an hour" and one hour later "Now lets see... why doesn't it work oh... the offer expired 3 minutes ago..." now it was "Hey, you can get sims 2 for free, all expansions. *intermission* What do you mean it don't work? It says right here it's... oh, it closed today."
@IlatGX: Well, people have convinced, and died from skin cancer from the sun so... xP

Forgive this ensuing vicious rant if I'm misinterpreting your comment.
"Apathy"? "Spoiled"? "Not negatively affected by it"? Basically, your point is that anyone who doesn't agree with you is spoiled and privileged and doesn't know how big the real issue is? That anyone who doesn't bring up this issue to the literal exclusion of all else is just apathetic and has no sympathy for the issue? That, likewise, they must not be affected by this issue if they don't constantly bring it up despite all resistance?
It's not that "None [I'm not sure who the fuck None is, but he sounds like a dumbass. I don't know him. I think no one knows him. Maybe that's the word you're looking for? no one?] wants to give a shit about it." This issue was brought up, addressed, mostly, in fact, agreed upon.....and then we all moved the fuck on. No one's changing the story--the original version would be too set in stone in readers' minds--and there's a fair number of people who fucking creepily worship at the author's feet anyhow--so, sorry, the story itself is not changing. Yes, you can spread awareness of this supposed issue with all of literature and porn. Yes, you've already done so here. And here we are, a year later, still having it brought up.
But, I guess it's easy, in the end, to write off these responses as "lame excuses", so I guess I'm just talking into the wind.
I guess, in the end, it's all a matter of perspective. All jokes of sloth and work avoidance aside, my daily work consists of training for the day--perhaps in weeks, perhaps in years--where I go into a foreign country full of people fanatically trying to end my life. There are at least a few users who've already been there. There are users here with families, users who spend their time creating art or working hard--hell, there's a guy on here who might be uprooting from his home country because of a civil fucking war. When we all settle in to a bit of entertainment at the end of the day, not many of us look and think "Hm. This artist was skimping on the details of the genitalia of these female characters, while these other dudes' dicks are perfect. Clearly, the artist hates women and this is representative of a fundamental flaw in society."
I have no idea what you do for a living, Katt, but I'm curious as to what could leave your mind so fucking idle.
Also, remember what Tytan said? About addressing the issue at hand rather than trying to rehash the issue of BJ's characterization? Yeah, you fucking lost. So we can cross "basic communication skills" off the list, I guess.

Alright, so 21 did have one problem that stuck out like a sore thumb to me.Â
- Semi-not-really-spoiler:
Ignoring for the moment why they're "scattered" or "at the edges", rather than pulling security on the exits from the, as mentioned, numerous covered and concealed positions within the room.....Harmony Theory Chapter 21 wrote:Charisma rolled her eyes and looked to her troops, such as they were. They were scattered along the edges of the library, ostensibly watching all of the exits and waiting for word from her or Cash on where to go next. Their shoulders slumped and their eyes were dull, all of them were tired from the breakneck pace they had set in getting here. Cash had insisted on moving things along as fast as possible, and with the carnage they had left behind in Precious Corners, Charisma fully agreed with him. The toll of that rush was obvious in the sloppy way they were guarding the room, drooping eyes glossing over several places that a more alert mind would be paying attention to.
"Sound off!" she shouted to the room, jerking the guards to attention.
"Squad two, all clear!" the most alert of the guards barked out.  The others joined in soon after, four squads of three ponies each. Charisma was pleased that most of them looked embarrassed at their inattention. Most of her soldiers were military trained, and for those that weren't she had put some effort into instilling proper discipline. They all knew their places and what was expected of them, with the very real threat of her displeasure should they fail to live up to those expectations.
She just shouted. And they shouted back. In the middle of the building they're infiltrating. Yes, in CQB, squads (nine men, not three) and their individual fireteams (four men, bigger than each of Charisma's "squads") will give loud and clear verbal communication inside a building. This is after we've kicked, shot, rammed or blown the door in and stormed in, shooting practically everyone we see. Here, this is clearly an attempted infiltration. They've taken the painstaking effort to avoid, disarm, or squirm through the wards that lead to the lair, some from miles out. They seem under the impression that a Dragon that paranoid wouldn't notice if people started screaming inside his hermetic abode.Â
It's called noise discipline. They teach it to fucking POGs in Basic. You would expect an "ex-Kingdom Special Forces" "greatest warrior the Kingdom's seen in centuries to have a bit more fucking brains. Or, for that matter, leadership skills at all, but that's another matter.

Not every author writing stories that involve soldiers is trained soldier themselves, so keep your standards low. That being said, that's a pretty stupid mistake, even for a civvy writer to make. However, Charisma doesn't exactly live up to her name, so I'd say the leadership skills are about on par from what we've seen of her.Mister Frost wrote:Alright, so 21 did have one problem that stuck out like a sore thumb to me.Â

- Suffice it to say that Chapter 21 both answers many questions and raises others concerning the elements and their bearers' appearance. Also,
- extreme spoilery theories:
- I have great reason to believe that Nightmare Umbra is or at least encompasses Twilight and possibly the others as well. Perhaps all the experimentation and attempts to understand them triggered a backlash, or they ran into a Centipede's Dilemma by trying to consciously use what's designed to be used unconsciously, but evidence is beginning to point to Umbra and Twinkle both being more liked to Twilight than previous thought.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I've got a bit of good news that I just feel like sharing. It's nothing big, just something I'm excited about. Recently, I've joined a group of wargamers that are making a big effort to completely redesign the Warhammer 40k tabletop game. I've pitched in to help redesign the Chaos Space Marines, and so far my ideas and advice seem to have a lot of gravity with the head designer. The group has no professionals as far as I know, but we know what works. Since GW can't seem to do much right, we took matters into our own hands.

So in two hours of browsing internet my galaxy s4 has gone from 100 to 39% battery.
I think I need either a new battery or a new phone.

Anyone see the new 3ds? Not sure if I'm fan of that second stick, I guess it'd make it easy to hit the buttons at the same time but still it's incredibly tiny.
At this point I think nintendo has a fetish for not putting the stylus back where it was on the DSi.
