Maybe it was like that for the people that wanted the story more. Like how the Mass Effect games had a difficulty specifically for people who were more interested in the story.Scienza wrote:Ah. I dunno, I find that a good thing since VATS was always OP as fuck. It took all the fun out of combat when you could just mash the "Headshot" button and become an unkillable time-stopping death machine.
Compared to the scattered-ass FO3 DLCs:Mister Frost wrote:Don't forget the DLC's overarching questline, wherein you find yourself playing the role of M. Bison as vengeance for a city you accidentalied is sought by an unnecessarily creepyuppity Negrogentleman who has a love/hate relationship with the cosplayers and their bald clan-father. This quest takes you through the lush, verdant, enormous demon-bear and rabid-hippy-filled Valley of Joseph Smith; and you must help the world's most aggressive evangelist find redemption as you go door-to-door spreading the good word of John Moses Browning. You then proceed to the Land of Drug-Addicted Old-People and Humorously-Ill-Programmed robots, utilizing your disembodied inner-Stewie-Griffon's help to find the biggest, shiningest thing and make it broked-up. After a quick trip through a hotel that will certainly be getting a one-star review on Booking.com, you take a pleasant stroll down a rather lively road to find out just what the hell Black Rasta Ron Perlman is talking about and why he hates your Sputnik-lookin' Interrogator Droid so much. @Frost
Strongly disagree. In the early game your gun shakes around a lot, I've been told later that if you level up your guns skill it shakes less but I have no idea as I didn't use ADS past the first town. You're less accurate in the early game and that might make sense, but it's just an illusion, your gun isn't shaking it just looks like it is. You're actually more accurate if you fire your gun from the hip. As far as justifying the crosshair I find it much harder to justify being less accurate when I'm aiming.
But I concede I don't know much about guns, I own a single gun. It's a shotgun in which you have to reload after every shot, that is the extent of my knowledge.
I personally had much less fun with the game with ADS on. Having played a lot of FPS the iron sights on the varmint rifle (the first gun introduced to you in this game) are some of the most annoying.
@Tytan Agreed.

Call me a thespian, but I don't think it would fucking kill them to let me make my own goddamn outfits. Maybe I just wanna put the coat on; I don't want the whole gettup on, huh? What if I want to replace that Pre-War springwear's tacky footwear with a pair of sensible shoes? Is it too much to ask to, say, put the Powder Ganger's vest on over the Merc Grunt outfit? Goddamn, I'm not asking for a fashion show, but a bit of style isn't that big a demand.Tytan wrote:I just want my skyrim style fallout game.
Also, like in Skyrim, enable Skill Books to be readable books for maximum fun.
For instance, a Guns skill book could be a Navy SEAL memoir. A Sneak skill book could be a Navy SEAL memoir. A Light Armor (Armor skills should be a thing in the next Fallout game) skill book could be a Navy SEAL memoir. A Melee Weapons skill book could be a Navy SEAL memoir.
Every single book in the game could be a unique, non-replicated Navy SEAL memoir selected from one month's worth of newly-released Navy SEAL memoirs.

I can't seem to recall ever having heard that complaint. Guns was (naturally) one of the first skills I leveled up and it never stayed below 50 past level 3 or so; shaky sights wasn't a problem I noticed even in the beginning, though.Last wrote:@Frost

This raises issues, however. The vast majority of the readable books in Skyrim were written for Morrowind. I doubt Bethesda would take the effort required to write a whole new collection for Fallout.Mister Frost wrote:Also, like in Skyrim, enable Skill Books to be readable books for maximum fun.
The only way I could consider it would be if they just found some relevant public domain essays that they could just copypaste into their magic box of game making.

@FO3/NV
Inasmuch as a lot of the value for Fallout 3 was replaying it with various mods, I liked the less structured approach that game had compared to NV's fairly straightforward beginning that was definitely kind of boring compared to the alt. start mod I used in 3. This is absolutely an unfair comparison. The mechanics of NV were MUCH more fun, though, and without a doubt were a better base for modding - if I'd used my "enemies-use-ammo" tweak on that game, it would have been a lot easier to balance just by giving them an invisible and unlootable ammo type to use in their weapons with higher priority than lootable bullets, so they'd still be able to use their stupid spray-n-pray style of shooting without instantly running out of ammo (or, if you give them enough of the default ammo to make them not instantly run out, then you end up with an overpowered character who has 200 rounds of .30-06 and a decent-condition BAR after one raid in one ruin).
Other than that, I preferred the aesthetic of FO3 even though it was super unrealistic just 'cos I'm not a fan of orange, desert settings, or neo-Romans. Personal taste, not a real criticism - I like green/gray, stupid post-apocalyptic-punk psychopaths, and, well, honestly not Washington, actually, but I liked it more than the desert I suppose. STALKER's setting was better than both games' for my tastes. Both games had a lot of missed potential; New Vegas unquestionably delivered more than 3 did, though. 3 had a lot of empty spaces and pointless areas; most of NV had something reasonably interesting around every corner, and most locations had at least something cool in them.
That's my take.
If the next Fallout game does take place in New England, I do hope they'll play up the HP Lovecraft references a bit more, which'd tie in nicely with adding an actual book system in.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
So an admittedly crass and uninspired idea has lodged itself in my brain, and that strange, quasi-artistic compulsion to create, to commit this idea to word lest it be lost, drives me to write it in its entirety, though what I'll do with it is debatable.
The long and short of it being that Luna, sensing the coming of the Bloodmoon Prophecy, gathers a circle of trusted ponies (Fluttershy and Shining Armor chief among them) to prevent Hircine from making sport of Equestria in what would be the bloodiest night since Tirek's first rampage. The focus is intended to be the hunting and fighting itself (as that's an area of my writing I need to explore and develop regardless) as well as the doubts, misgivings, and general introspections of the characters--Fluttershy, for instance, has to confront her fear in the face of mortal danger to save her friends; Shining Armor contemplates his station as a noble, the undeserved privileges and unfair expectations that it brings. Luna, bearing the mantle of the now-passed Aedra of darkness, dreams, inspiration, solitude, and art, thinks in wider terms, considering her place in the world and in Equestria's society, and of the strange and alien mind of her Daedric foe.
If you lot don't mind, I'd like some input as I progress. I'm beginning my research/refresher on the particulars of Hircine's lore and the Prophecy in particular. The first rough-draft chapter should be forthcoming later tonight if anyone's interested in reading it.

That's how my writing works

Really need to get around to chronicling The Chaos Wars, but it feels like one of those "Greatest Stories Never Told"
Although it was originally a war between Mobians and humans and has since evolved into general furries vs humans conflict once I made my characters NOT be Sonic-based
I should draw The Evil Wizard and Moonface again and THEY were created in elementary school...

Most of the first chapter, such as it is.
I apologize in advance for the dreadfully tedious prose and canon-breaking characterization in addition to the short length. It is roughly 5 AM here and I'm frankly just wanting to get to some sort of stopping point until tomorrow.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I've managed to convince my dad of the two greatest Christmas movies of all time:
In keeping with the spirit of the early Christians stealing Pagan traditions in order to deceitfully convert the 'heathens' to Christianity, Die Hard's tale of a group of foreigners using deceitful methods to rob people just trying to enjoy their holiday is in true keeping to the spirit of Christmas.
The greatest Christmas movie of all time, though, would have to be The Wolf of Wall Street. A tale of opulence, materialism, and corporations taking advantage of one's culture for personal gain, Wolf may not have featured snowfall, but there was certainly a lot of white powder. One could argue that it's not marketed as a Christmas movie, but then one would be conceding that it's all about marketing.
