Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Hm, yes, good point (though we could here make the argument that the mistake was on the part of the character speaking). And now that I'm really thinking about it, Santos Dumont is probably a better fit for a mad scientist of early aviation, anyway. This is the man who would build his own personal airships, fly them around Paris, and, come lunchtime, just drop a ladder down to a nice restaurant and have his meal while the ship bobbed overhead.

Pbbbbt. I dunno those other guys. But sure. And Santos would probably be one too. So would be whoever thought up the internet at Darpa. Mad scientists either hit it big or fade to obscurity.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Where the Wrights are concerned, I'd say it's suggestive that the narrator was in a hurry and may have been thinking off the top of his head, making some guesses, especially since he got one of their names wrong.
For mad scientists, out of electronics and computer engineering, I think Douglas Engelbart (the computer mouse, bitmapped screens, hypertext, then kind of faded into obscurity after philosophical differences with the organization he helped found and some other personal issues) would be a decent candidate. But one of the best recent cases might be Erdos, whose prolific work with tons of different people, constant travel, and massive amphetamine usage could be worked into a lifestyle based around trying to avoid aspects of the Wyrd.
Do you have any ideas for groups that could have been made to qualify as courts of fae? I'm afraid I'm not well-enough acquainted with artistic and literary history, so the best I could think of are the Bloomsbury Group and the Inklings.

Somber, I read that, and all I can think of is, once PH is over, you'll finally be free to tell us all those other stories you have in your head.
This should be good.

How are you not filthy rich? This is not only amazing, but has mainstream appeal.Somber wrote:Sigh... why do I write this instead of 72?

Because you're an extremely imaginative, driven, passionate, powerful writer? It's probably healthy!

I need to get 72 done! Instead, I waste time writing things like that and Rarity clop!

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
You're an artist, mate. Artists spew art out of their bodies at irregular intervals. Sometimes that art has to do with previous art. This art then forms a series. Sometimes art is just standalone. If an artist attempts to force art out before it has been properly gestated, the art will be malformed and defective. Art comes when it wants.Somber wrote:I need to get 72 done! That was an overly convoluted and slightly disgusting way to say you can't rush art.
And you can never have too much Rarity clop.

Write for you first, bruh. Think about what you want to do, not what you need to do. And I concur that Rarityclop is, indeed, a thing that must happen

Look, sometimes a guy just needs to write Rarity clop. Nothing wrong with that.
Besides, does anyone really want to go back to a world without Rarity clop?

But if we go by the same logic we got "clop" from, the answer's different.
"Clop" is the sound made when horses walk on hard surfaces.
The answer, I think, would be "thump" or "clack".

Is it just me, or did Blackjack have something very like this conversation with herself at certain points between about chapters 20 and 33?

I want to note that I don't mean to say that the Wrights didn't do anything impressive, but there were a lot of inventors who were very close to powered flight at the time. The Wrights' key accomplishment was one that makes my scientist's heart squeal with glee -- rather than taking Lilienthal's lift and drag tables as fact, they experimented to confirm them in a primitive wind tunnel and discovered that his numbers were slightly wrong. Which basically meant they were briefly the only ones with the correct numbers when calculating how much wing and how much engine they would need!

Perhaps if you added Rarity clop to Project Horizons, the fun would be doubled.Somber wrote:I need to get 72 done! Instead, I waste time writing things like that and Rarity clop!

Wasn't there already a Rarity clop in chapter twenty-something? Not really detailed one, granted, but still...

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Gotta remember to differentiate between sex scene and clop: the level of detail there would easily fall under an R rating, and maybe even PG-13 during certain time periods and with a friendly panel at the MPAA. Somber has, at various points and in my opinion, done well at presenting hot without presenting graphic to a degree even particularly near the fuzzy border between non-porn and porn (the Rarity/Vanity memory to a lesser extent, and greater in, say, the first BJ/Glory bondage scene or BJ/Lancer at the Society, or even that time when BJ walked in on Stygius/Psychoshy in the hospital at Meatlocker). And one of the key points there is that it's not all about the sex, but the context and what's going through the characters' heads.Borsuq wrote:Wasn't there already a Rarity clop in chapter twenty-something? Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Finally found time to catch up with PH after a few months of abstinence. (ch 70 + 71) Damn, how I've missed that.
The end of chapter 71 hit like a sledgehammer and may or may not have caused me to shed a tear. Somber you magnificent bastard!
Merry Christmas to everyone!
