I hate computers.
Nothing fucking works! Works fine one day? Here, let me be slow as shit another day.
Trying to do something with your files? Let me slow to this weird, unstable crawl where you can't do anything and have to restart your computer!
You have a nice mouse? I guess that doesn't need to work properly either!
Hmm? Things seem to be working now? Let me do something weird with chrome where no other programs will run on top of it, and you have to minimize it before doing anything! Sure, that's hardly a major problem BUT WHAT THE FUCK!?!?
Maybe you have a virus! Doesn't matter, I guess, because if your anti-virus didn't stop it in the first place and nothing else seems to locate a virus, everything must be working perfectly okay!
I mean, I'm not an idiot, I'm 95% sure these problems are my fault and mine alone but I wish I knew HOW I WAS CAUSING THEM!
Edit: I get disproportionately upset about computer problems more than I do anything else, mind you, so this may seem a biiiiiit of an overreaction. But it drives me insane.

But seriously, what antivirus are you running?
The mouse problem is probably a driver issue, try re-installing the drivers.
Try keeping activity monitor open to see what cripples the system.
Also, consider a clean install of the OS and/or start saving for some new hardware if it turns out to be a hardware issue.

Vipre. And even if it's not the best (I dunno) It has done a very good job to my knowledge. It's very good at preemptively grabbing things that are clearly viruses before I even blink (example, like when I as a non-adblock user click one of those ads disguised as download buttons by accident and it downloads and tries to run an obvious virus, Vipre stops it before it even starts running and is like NOPE.)
Trying that now, never occurred to me. But for more detail, you know when maybe a hair or something is stuck over the laser sensor in a mouse and the movement stops and stutters when you move it across screen? It's like that, only my mouse and desk are perfectly clean.
It's more of a problem that when I get the reset-worthy slowdown I can't open anything (Or, if it's not right infront of me on the screen) even view an Activity Monitor.
Eh, just you trying to help as calmed me down a 100%, plus the current problem went away (it will return, I imagine...) so I'm all clear now.

When did you install Vipre? If it came with the system or if you installed it soon after you should be fine, but just in case you should consider a secondary antivirus like for instance Malwarebytes, which is one of the best at scanning and removal of malware even in its free version.Scyto Harmony wrote:stringtheory wrote:

If reinstalling the driver doesn't work then it would either be a hardware issue with the mouse, a connection issue, or somewhere on the computer, what mouse are you using?
Huh, so you couldn't even bring up an activity monitor window even if you kept it open or minimized?
By the way, what are your system specs and OS?

Yeah, I mean both of the times it was (to my knowledge) caused by a file in my downloads folder. Whenever I opened Windows Explorer (files) it would slow to such a crawl that I couldn't load anything... It wasn't a full crash, because things were still, well, loading. They were just loading at what must've been 1/100th of regular speed. Both times it happened I fixed it by just emptying my Downloads folder. Seems like it'd be a file glitch or a virus but I've yet to find any other case of this problem, so... *shrug*

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600S CPU @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz

Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6570
Edit: And I should clarify, up until maybe... 4 months ago? 5? I didn't have many severe problems with my computer. But it's only a few years old, so I don't know if age has anything to do with it.

Well, keep task manager open to see if you're running out of RAM or CPU and what might be causing the problem. Second, check how much hard drive space you have left, if it's over 85% full then that could be the reason for the slow down. Also, if it's a laptop, check the battery.Scyto Harmony wrote:stringtheory wrote:*snip*

It was still required for Chrom to be able to go through the passage and get a bad-ass Falchion.Last wrote:Kattlarv wrote:Technically not. From what I can tell one of the choices you make at the end of the game makes using, retrieving and protecting the item the game is named after completely meaningless.
But being able to take the non martyr path doesn't matter all that much if you take the martyr path. Besides Tiki claims to be the voice of Naga. I find it hard to believe that if the Fire emblem had been taken and Tiki still lived we wouldn't have been able to get the information.
And technically if you would have it, they couldn't use it to revive Grimma.

@Scyto
It also might be indexation, if there is lots of big files, that might happen, I mean slow, not indexation.
Side note. Also try running defrag on your both drives. Clean insides of your PC (turn it off, ofc). I'd recommend pressurized air (don't think that leaf blower would suit here) or with NOT used brush.
If you are confident/experienced enough - change termopaste on your cooler fan (it's between fan itself and processor.

- QTEs:
- I was thinking about quicktime events and why people are so upset about them. During cutscenes I understand. But in Kingdom hearts there was one when you're fighting Sephiroth and if you mess it up you'll either just die or have like one HP. I think the determining factor is whether you have the Once more or Second chance abilities.
Those types of quicktime event how are they different from a counter from games like MGS rising? As long as you know it's there (Which you will after the first time) it's pretty much the same thing. You still have to be aware the attack is coming (He has a quote and moves differently right before he uses that attack.) and you still have to time it. Pretty sure spammming triangle didn't work.
If you get down to it the arkham games are a constant barrage of quicktime events. Every time an enemy's head sparks a giant 'Y' might as well appear over your head.
And there's also the canned animation QTEs. Again cutscenes I understand. These type of QTE are used a lot in games like God of War. And to be completely honest I think if those QTEs weren't in that game it would get old really fast. I could not stand watching those canned animations over and over again without that little bit of interaction. You could always just cut those out but that's one of the defining factors of a God of War game.

For those of you that care about pokemon there's a new wifi event. It's one of those butterflys with a special wing pattern and move.

Re: QTE
Thing I do not like about them is that the game is inexplicably forcing you into one route of commands. Never played MGR so I don't have a say in that matter. In a boss fight I like options. I like having the option of eliminating the boss before the boss realizes I am there. I like having the option of taking the boss out non-lethally. I like being able to do different combos. I don't like being forced into a singular canned animation. It's more or less the statement "Do it the way we want you to do it or you lose". It one of the minor nitpicks I have with KHII actually. Finishers in the game are required to defeat bosses. I remember fighting my way through the entire game without realizing that spells count as finishers, and I only used them because I thought they looked cool. Imagine my frustration when I went to the final boss with the infinite swing mod on the character and figure that spells have zero effect on him. A whole hour wasted wailing on him, only to be told later by my cousin that I needed a regular attack finisher.
Hmm. Reminds me of another game subject. Modern military shooters, as they are called. Today, mostly satisfying playing multiplayer. Asked myself why that is. Thinking it's the whole reason zombie survival games are much more popular. It is because they have limits. In campaign mode for these games, there is no such need of conservation of ammunition or health. Just run recklessly from cover to cover, relying on the ammo resupply packages and regenerating health. Loss of the desperation for finding more ammo for your gun, or swapping it with the enemies you come across. Stealing the enemy's weapon is still a feature in the game, but why bother when there is an ammo crate a few tiles ahead? Loss of conservation of healthpacks and avoiding damage, no more need to memorize all the locations they spawn, and to avoid getting hit. What are your thoughts on this?
