Hm... Spotted SilentCarto in a comment on FimFic. Well, at least he's confirmed to be alive. Snipe's over on tropeland... Haven't seen heads or tails from some of the others though.

Eh? I'm just bored at the moment. Wanted to keep track of how everyone's doing. Can't even recall the last time I've seen Randomblank, not after he closed up the RedEye Tumblr.

I go there sometimes for the lulz or to look at tropes for a show/book/movie/video game I'm interested in.

Apes peaking of which, Godzilla was entertaining in much the same was Pacific Rim was, though the tone and atmosphere were different and the human characters were a bit more in focus

I woulda been happier with a bit more monster and a bit less pitiful humans.

Doesn't help the human protagonists felt like cardboard cutouts.
I liked the movie, but the characterization work did not impress me. Some bits were interesting, but that part overall was pretty meh.
I agree that the movie could have used more screentime on the big fights.

And the whole look-how-fucking-cool-the-military-is-you-should-totally-join-oh-wait-they're-all-getting-killed thing. If you're gonna suck off the military at least don't make them look impotent.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Doesn't help the human protagonists felt like cardboard cutouts.

At least the military was being smart about it. Why use artillery, missiles, Naval guns capable of firing over the horizon, or any of that useless POG shit when you can just send in Infantry (with our tiny rifles that often take over 5 rounds to kill a tiny-ass human goddamn being) to spray magazine after magazine into the 300-meter-tall monsters' hides?

An highlight of the movie Skyline, an otherwise pretty mediocre alien-invasion movie, is that the military was portrayed as and shown to be actually competent; simply overwhelmed by the sheer scale of what they're against.
Also, a notable thing (at least for me) is one absolutely fucking epic scene that managed to make me cheer for goddamn UAVs.

Yeah, I definitely agree with the monster fights thing. That movie was such a figurative cockblock at times.

I actually appreciated how Godzilla actually paced itself, giving out monster sequences as little chocolatey morsels given one at a time, rather than just one two-foot Easter bunny that you get shoved in your mouth all at once, because that just makes your sick and gag and clogs your throat so you drown in your own vomit.
Bottom line, I give Godzilla credit for not drowning me in vomit.

That's good. As far as I knew, he just disappeared off the face of the earth.
Wafflesmart's been missing for a while too, but I think he dropped the story after Stygius first appeared.

Those stock photos are always so boring. I mean, a few sips of my usual morning brew and the world just looks like that anyway. What does it take to get some creativity in here?

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
- resident evil through all the nostalgia:
- So... Anyone else excited for The Evil Within? I kinda fell out of love with games like dead space as they took more of an action role.
But Resident Evil (The ps1 versions not RE4.) were some of the first games I played, so the horror genre has a pull for me. And as much as I have a love-hate thing for RE4 (it's a great game, but it was the doorway that RE5 and 6 walked through.) the evil within looks like it has the possibility of being something else.
Resident Evil was a game where combat wasn't your best option, running was. (To my knowledge you still HAD to fight the bosses) But unlike more recent horror games like outlast and amnesia combat was still an option.
Again it wasn't your best one. The combat system wasn't amazing your character controlled poorly and your weapon didn't do all that much damage. At least the basic handgun didn't. It took multiple shots just to take out the weakest enemies. And bullets weren't everywhere.
That's not to say there weren't better guns, there were. But as said before you have to fight the bosses, using some of your better gun's ammo for taking out a few of the enemies you could avoid might mean you're not prepared to defeat a later boss.
Also did I mention dying mattered? This was before the era of checkpoints, if you hadn't been saving, then well it's back to the beginning of the game for you. Not only that but saves were limited. And I don't mean just by the amount of slots you were allowed to have, you had to have ink ribbons save and they were not infinite.
And then there was inventory management. You couldn't hold all the tools for the job at the same time. You had eight slots a key took one space a shotgun two, if you wanted to bring along health items well that's another space. And your ammo took a space.
Now, I understand that some of these things you guys might think are flaws, but they weren't. These were deliberate choices made to stress the player. Chances are unless you had a strategy guide or had played the game before you weren't confident you could handle the next room.
If you had the wrong gun and there's a boss ahead chances are your going back to your save. Just a few mistakes here and there could mean you don't have the healing items necessary to survive the next encounter.
It's just a rare thing these days. For instance in dead space, while it had it's share of scares and it's atmosphere I never really felt like I couldn't handle what was ahead.
Anyway, It's just kinda what I'm hoping for in The Evil Within, Maybe not make beating the game impossible if I made one too many mistakes and saved over a file. But you know make death cost more than having to rewatch a cutscene. And maybe have the games mechanics add to the horror.
So in case none of you bothered to read my TL:DR anyone looking forward to The Evil Within? I just kinda stumbled across the trailer again today.
