You know what people should do instead of naming their kids video game characters? When they get married take half of their spouse's last name and half of their last name and combine them so that last names will get sillier and sillier.Valikdu wrote:Someone has named their daughter Tali-Zorah.

Tali-Zorah is not the worst name somebody could give their child. There's that infamous picture of the guy who was apparently named Batman bin Superman. And all those kids who's name in English is Eclipse Glasses because it translated into a cool phrase in the native tongue of the population whenever an eclipse happens in a part of the world that doesn't usually has one. I think it was in Africa last I heard of that.
And let's not forget the couple who made damn sure their child was born on 11/11/11 and named their child Dovakhiin.

I just finished watching Assault on Wall Street...
Wow.
I mean... just...
Wow.
If I hadn't known ahead of time I would never have guessed it was directed by Uwe Boll.
It was such a good movie.
Not only was it heart wrenchingly sad, but it also gives you the sort of schadenfreude vengeance payoff that's just so satisfying.
I recommend it if you love that sort of thing.

I feel more sorry for the kids named Jacob, Edward, and Bella as a direct result of that series. And to a lesser extent to those who were named that because those are actual names and who's parents wasn't even thinking about the series.

I lost it several times during that video, especially at the bits with the launcher and the "live show".

"And that's not heavy metal!" -The Metal Elite
Seriously, though, if you think they (the metal elite) don't exist... Read the rules for Encyclopedia Metallum (which, incidentally, is a site I can't recommend enough if you're looking for info about a metal band's releases or are trying to find some of the less well-known stuff for some reason).
Anyway, here are some songs that I think would fit with FoE. And with its various offshoots, and just in general with things the setting has potential for. Have I thought about this topic before? Perhaps.

Some of those actually gave me chills. Anyway, I started thinking about how things changed so rapidly in the warring countries, and then that led me to wondering about how the music scene evolved during the Great War. It makes sense to me that there would be at least something similar to heavy metal, if not the exact same thing. My headcanon for Germaneigh has metal being quite prominent there, especially death and doom.

*Begins jamming on guitar
Either that or Before my Body is Dry.(Minus the rapper edit and not including "Don't lose your way") Well don't lose your way could fit, but that song is partially about finding out who killed the character's dad and we all know who killed blackjack's mom and that in all probability blackjack was responsible for her dad being "retired".

Yeah, those first ones (and a couple of the others) are crazy atmospheric. They'd better be, considering some verge on 20 minutes. =P Anyway, one thing I'd note is that the ponies in FoE never seem to refer to the war as the "Great War" - which makes sense. Twice in PH, however, zebras refer to it as the "great war" - no caps, nothing special, but the wording is used by them. As regards ponymetal, one thing I'd note is that most heavy metal music (especially death and doom) isn't all that harmonious; it would likely come out of protest music if it appeared at all, since it does seem to go against the norm for Equestrian society. I'd recommend figuring out a way to make it make sense for them to have this genre of music around, in any case; your explanation might not have to stand up to musicologists' standards, but your readers might well have some questions about how Winter Wrap-Up became Scream Bloody Gore. =PIronmonger wrote:Overlong Analysis Cobalt wrote:@Iron

Kayak rentals? Or... well, yak rentals? 'Cos, well... does Alaska even have yaks? I feel like they're sort of a central Asian animal.
