Hey guys I was talking with a friend about PH and he brought up a point I thought I should bring up here. After Hightower why is Blackjack oddly okay with Carrion killing Ahuizotl? She is initially shocked, but her first thought was that Carrion melted the cash that Ahuizotl had. Considering that Blackjack was saddened when other minor villains were executed, like the Brimstone Falls administrator, this seems oddly unlike her. Blackjack admitted that Ahuiztol deserved it which seems even weirder considering her belief of allowing people to "do better". What do you guys think?

Ahuizotl had had over two centuries to decide to do better, was motivated by simple greed rather than something higher (Blackjack wasn't too terribly broken up about Brass either), and fell in the process of selling out Blackjack and his own home, IIRC. I'm sure that Blackjack would have preferred to reform him, and she still might not have killed him herself. With him dead anyway, though, well. Even less use crying over spilt milk when the milk was sour.

Some words to that effect might help a bit. Without herself or other people commenting on it the whole event seems weird considering Blackjack's character. Blackjack talks to Carrion at the club soon after so it would relatively easy to put a few sentences there in an organic, believable manner. I don't think the "spilt milk" argument works considering Blackjack has been beating herself up over spilled milk for most of the book.

Um... Not to be crude, but what do you mean, how would it work?  Moral implications aside, Boo is physically all there... She's mindless (pre-core), not a Barbie doll...
I suppose I was thinking more along the lines of "how would it happen?" Boo has only now spoken, and that's under the control of Discord. She can't really say anything then so I guess I'm looking at consensuality. Just over thinking it I guess. I do that a lot.

Gah, I know that while it might be easy to miss some details if I could find a bunch of counter examples to the who "Boo is mindless" argument and put them all together... but I can't find examples because those are needles in a big haystack. Yeah she doesn't talk pre-towercrush, but she's had tons of examples of complex behavior that I can't prove right now. I think that it was implied she got embarrassed about the topic of sex somewhere in the Society chapters but I just had a look and couldn't find it. Assuming that is what happened it's possible that Discord might have informed Boo about sex at some point, and blanks are created at physical maturity... regardless, the picture in question is just a "dirty" picture of Boo, not a picture of her having sex.

On the bright side, now Taffy can re-read the entire story! (At a much slower pace and on something that's not a phone.) Which is actually worth it because every chapter has lots of clever foreshadowing and other fun details that are easy to miss the first time around.

Keep in mind, we've only known her pre-Discord within the context of Hippocratic. That said, she did figure out how to use an assault rifle on her own.

She did, but Discord was driving at that point.

Best case scenario we get it out this weekend. There's a lot of work for a single day, but Hinds has said they've done as much before. Not in my experience, but I'm new.
Most likely next weekend, barring something dramatic.
Wait, a single day?  What?  Do you know something I don't?

As far as I'm aware, we've a full session scheduled for Saturday and six hours on Sunday.
Sunday night releases are the best! I can't imagine how many money was lost because PH-readers were reading until deep in the night and were all sleepy and shizzle at work the next day Spike

On a more serious note, are you planning to integrate new stuff from S4 into the story or did you at some point said ''this is the canon I work with and that's it.''

Actually, I've read PH three times now on my phone using an old PDF of it. It only goes to chapter 53 or so, but once I reach that I read the Google doc in my phones browser...

With is being as late in the game as it is, one shouldn't expect too much post season 3 to show up in the story. Maud Pie, Cheese Sandwich, and something about the Breezies may get named checked, even a Memory Orb appearance if they're really lucky. If there was a hard cut off point, it would be right before Magic Mystery Cure so Twilight didn't become an Alicorn, but if Somber sees fit and the brushing team is okay with it they may fit something from season 4 in under the idea of "a similar event happened in this time line, except Twilight wasn't an alicorn."

At least that's the idea and feeling I've gotten from reading all these years. Naturally Somber probably has other things in mind. I'm just reminded how not long after season 2 ended, he said he wouldn't be using Cadance or Shining Armor. Well Cadance got name dropped in a memory orb a couple of chapters later and somewhere along the line it was decided that King Awesome would claimed to be a decedent of Shining Armor and Cadance. There's no way to prove he was or wasn't, and Cadance hasn't been confirmed if she's an alicorn or just a regular unicorn, but I took it as Somber will use nearly introduced characters and concepts from the show provided he can come up with a way to do so naturally.

But it's safe to say that PH takes place in an alternate universe where, while similar events portrayed in the show could have happened, not everything in the show happened and not always in the same way if they did.

Well, given BJ's view of Discord while on the moonstone high, I don't think it's a poor assumption to make.

Er, what? I was just pointing out that Boo's embarrassment came after Discord checked out her head. It's therefore more likely that Discord (who already understands social norms and mores) was the embarrassed one, rather than Boo spontaneously starting to understand the concepts of privacy and shame (which are normally instilled by parents during childhood) well enough to have a physical embarrassment reaction.

I believe the stated cutoff was somewhere around It's About Time. As Moody said, though, some concepts sneak in from the wrong side of the cutoff if they can be integrated without disrupting the existing canon too badly.

What of it? When Boo acts like an ordinary animal, that probably means Discord wasn't "pulling any strings" at that moment.

The null hypothesis -- the state of "nothing unusual has occurred" -- in this case is, "Boo is just an animal and nothing more." Now, we have ample evidence that the null hypothesis is incorrect, so any divergence from that norm, including unusual displays of intelligence, maturity, luck, or precognition, need to be explained. And it requires less assumptions to say, "That was Discord's influence" than to say, "Boo suddenly got smarter."

That's exactly what I meant. Boo acts like an animal, showing very little intelligence until Discord stepped in.

Going back to Maud Pie, she puts forth some interesting questions now. Like how did she react when her little sister was on PTM or did something pertaining to Maud drive Pinkie to using them more. And more related to PH, as an expert on rocks, was she brought in to examine the moon rocks or was she not around for some reason or another?

Most likely she was seen as a "civilian," and not worth it/allowable to bring her in on these kinds of matters. Of course, I'm assuming that the whole studying-moon-rocks-and-star-metal thing was considered top secret. Doesn't seem like the kind of thing to be open to the public.

We saw she had some ridiculous strength, and she was knowledgeable on rocks. If she didn't work under Horse or Trottenheimer she probably joined the army. As for PTM's, perhaps Maud was killed in a battle or announced "missing" when she theoretically joined the OIA.

And, more pertinent, I'd say: what happened to stop Pinkie Pie from trusting her? Again, unfortunately, I don't think that she can be made to fit. If Somber did figure out a way, though, I imagine that it would be awesome.

Like I said before, this late in the game it's highly improbable, but not impossible.

I think I've said this before but while reading the original FoE, you could tell when there had been a new episode released by the newest chapter. X character was introduced or Y event happened and a chapter or two after said episode a reference to them would appear. I'd actually have to go back and try to find the actual dates between a new episode and chapter, but you could tell events from season 2 where thrown into the story.

Granted I read FoE around this time two years ago now and it was three months finished when I did get around to reading it. So with the chapters being back to back it probably only seemed like "new episode, chapter with reference to said episode, new episode and another new chapter with a reference to that one" and there was in fact weeks to months gaps in between an episode and chapter.

Compare to PH, where a character introduced in season 3 didn't get named checked until three or four chapters ago when we was well into season 4. Since there's the wait for new chapters it probably helps space out the "new episode, new chapter with reference to said episode", but it doesn't seem like Somber goes out of his way to include something new until way down the line if he can fit it in.

If Somber can find a way he and ya'll can agree to make something fit, he will cause we've seen it before, but it'll be a name check if anything at this point.
Still, would be interesting to see Maud Pie's influence of the story at large, but tis a tale for another day short of massive retcons and rewrites to make them fit into PH, and I don't see that happening.

Maybe Maud was involved in Goldenblood's rock club, and was killed at the school. That's why Pinkie started using Mint-all's and eventually created PTM.
