I found that Skyrim's levelling system was just in the way, it obstructed creativity in character builds and made you put time into raising certain skills just for a perk you wanted.Scienza wrote:I do.Tytan wrote:You say that like it's a bad thing.Scienza wrote:Or given the massive success of Skyrim, they'll just repackage it with guns.Kippershy wrote:Not gonna lie, I expect Bethesda will probably do this to a lesser extent with Fallout 4 - use the fact it's on a new map, change some guns around, introduce a few new enemy types -- but the real charm of Fallout is the world setting, the dark humour, the hidden secrets and the customisability of it on PC.
"Now you can level your Armor by getting shot in the face!"
Fallout 3 and NV just don't seem nearly as 'grindy' as Oblivion or Skyrim. Even Fallout 1 didn't.
I hope they stick along the lines of FO3 with levelling. If they can refine the combat characteristics for melee and firearms, hopefully in a new engine, all the better.
If the 2299 site is legitimate, the hinted map based on potentially mentioned places is very large. I enjoyed the exploration in Fallout 3, and to a lesser extent, NV.

I just hope they get the atmosphere down. Say what you will about FO3 but I found it be much more more atmospheric than NV. Exploring old ruins is something I always love to do in these kind of games.

Only unlike NV Fo3 was husk and empty world. Though in NV there are some random encounters and (FUCKING!) Cazadores, I've liked Fo3's encounters more.
Also, with Broken Steel I've finally meet worth enemies in power armor, there's nothing like that in NV, unless you use mods.
On other hand with OWB and/or Lonesome Road (more with later) you'll be facing against real challenge.
And regarding upcoming Fo4. I think it'll be on Skyrim engine, but refined for Fallout use. As for levelling/perk system - I liked NV's more, than Fo3.

I'm rather curious to see what kind of weapons will be available in the next Fallout game. Like, I thought it would be neat to see a .357 Magnum semi-auto (such a thing does exist), or maybe a homage to the .44 Desert Eagle.

Don't hold your breath. I say there were few good ideas with Oblivion. Though I didn't liked Thief's guild and DB's quests in Skyrim, compared to Oblivion's they were blunt.

I'm aware of the mods things, I just think it'd be neat if there were a few more smexy smexy weapons to allow for some greater wiggle-room in character customization. For example, the .44 Revolver could be more focused on accuracy for a marksman character, while the Deagle in the same caliber would be geared towards DPS for the up-close sort.
That's just my thoughts, though. I don't feel that it's a have-to thing.

I don't think there were Deagle in Fo world..I mean in this 'always late 50's sci-fic' kind of world. I might be wrong though

So, according to wiki, Deagle was created about 1983. Though it appeared in Fo1, 2 and Tactics.

I hope with fallout 4 we'll see more greenery. Fallout 3 was gray and more gray; NV wasn't nearly as bad, but it was still visually dull. I think it's why I like the scenery mods for the fallout games so much cause they actually make the game look visually interesting. I know it's a post apocalypse, but would it really kill bethesda to add in some trees once in a while? And no mutated people merged with trees don't count.

Yeah that Skyrim level up system had to be the worst part of the game.Scienza wrote:I do.Tytan wrote:You say that like it's a bad thing.Scienza wrote:Or given the massive success of Skyrim, they'll just repackage it with guns.Kippershy wrote:Not gonna lie, I expect Bethesda will probably do this to a lesser extent with Fallout 4 - use the fact it's on a new map, change some guns around, introduce a few new enemy types -- but the real charm of Fallout is the world setting, the dark humour, the hidden secrets and the customisability of it on PC.

Fallout: Play the game however you want, spend points in what you want, have fun.
Skyrim (And oblivion but I played less of that.): Grind the hell out of what you want and specialize in that and that only that because the system is tedious. (Oblivion: Also could you jump around the land like a jackass?)

Don't get me started on Skyrim -_-Last wrote:Skyrim (And oblivion but I played less of that.): Grind the hell out of what you want and specialize in that and that only that because the system is tedious. (Oblivion: Also could you jump around the land like a jackass?)
Call me weird, but I'm both optimistic and pessimistic about fallout 4. On the one hand I'm excited about the prospects of it being in boston and the possible scenarios, but on the other hand I'm worried that it will just be gameplay wise skyrim with guns.

And tbh, Stich only got assist on that kill.
@EP: It seems like you guys need some more concentration. Just like Twilight in that episode she's trying to read the diary.
On a side note: Umph... love the old Swedish Disney songs...
@Camo: (Originality) Tell me about it... the amount of decent work seems to drop every day, just more and more bland crap popping up.
Heck, as said: The most original I saw from the season 4 premier was a MEME. WITH MILKY WAY! None even made any effort to not do anything bland, generic or overall crap. For the second episode, saw something somewhat innovative. But it was a little half assed. Why is it that so few seem capable of doing something in a interesting manner? Like, they can't even think outside the box, let alone the chimney. Honestly. Seen a ton of material fly past their drooling faces. Heck, even seen a perfectly good cunt joke get torn down, to be a out of place, incredibly bland cock joke. It's really sad how far people go for that when incapable of just taking what's in front of them...

What about Human revolution? It's a good FPS/RPG hybrid. If you go stealth the bosses can screw you royally though.swicked wrote:FPS isn't my genera, in part, because I can rarely see the difference between one and another gameplay-wise.
Same kinds of guns, grenades, whatever, same kinds of enemies (other characters with guns or melee weapons), point and click. Some FPS require you to plan out your engagements rather than just tanking everything... but yeah. Still all pretty much the same.
The only first person games I particularly like are stealth-based like Dishonored and the next Thief game.

The current Humble Bundle (link) has Garry's Mod and Magicka in it. You know what are fun games to play with friends, I hear? Magicka and Garry's Mod. Just sayin'.
GMod, incidentally, is definitely an FPS that's different and original. More of a FPSandbox with the Source engine, I suppose.

One of the biggest problems with video games is that they think that hundreds of weapons = better game. Fuck no.swicked wrote:FPS isn't my genera, in part, because I can rarely see the difference between one and another gameplay-wise.

Maybe later swicked. After next week or so when I'm out of college. Provided I don't take a Christmas trip and other factors.
That said if one of the others want to try to make it they can. Just not me.
