What did I miss the last few days?  I've been playing minecraft trying to figure out my circuitry and at the same time keep what I was doing from lagging too badly, finally solved it by using covers to separate the wires.

Also OH FUCK! The government really is going to default.

I'm a moderate. I do my best to stay well-informed and don't really subscribe to any given party.
That said, I don't think I'll ever vote for a Republican congressman ever again. This isn't fiscal conservativism. This is more like fiscal domestic terrorism.

The sad thing is that there really is a terminology for what is going on right now.  It's literally fucking called the suicide strategy.  The idea behind it is that if you know your party is fucked in the long run then it's better take your opponent down with you.  It would have worked if democrats had gotten their fair share of blame as well, but they really need to back the fuck up otherwise it'll be the exact opposite of what they want.

To make a extremely long boring speech about changes in political climate short:  The problem that the republican party would have had two decades down the line is that the younger generations are more religiously diverse, more liberal and more ethnically diverse than before.  That posed a problem for the republican party in that their main party base consists of caucasian conservative christians.(Hold on before we get into religion and politics, I am just going over the difference between party bases and their main party platform.  No need to get into religion folks).  The other problem is that a massive chunk of the republican party's voter base is baby boomer, the problem with that is they're starting to die of old age.  That's pretty much two problems in one; their voter base right now is shrinking.  If they wanted to remain electorally viable they would have had to make massive changes to their party platform, however let's face it asking a political party to change their opinions is more difficult than trying to piss into a shot glass, on a record player spinning strapped to a running cheetah's back on fire.

It would have worked amazingly well if it worked, HOWEVER the reason why nobody does this strategy that the chances of it actually happening is slim to none.  The reason why they should not have done this is that this strategy when it doesn't work causes you to lose your next election by a metrick fuck ton across the board.


Tl:dr; The GOP tried to throw a hail mary and failed and now it's going to bite them in the ass in 2014.

Well that takes the piss.  Hope he's okay.  The problem with that sort of thing is that urine before it's watered down is highly acidic.  They'll have to probably flush it out of his bloodstream.  He's going to be okay, but he's NOT going to be a happy camper for a while.

Well fuck. . To make a long story short even if a bill to increase the deficit ceiling was put through it wouldn't pass fast enough. To make a extremely long boring explanation short: The only person who can stop the usa government from defaulting now is if Obama uses executive order of questionable legality.

In short: We're officially fucked unless Obama steps in and uses executive order.

I forgot that was my other point: The reason why the suicide strategy is a bad idea in this case for the republican party is that if Obama does intervene then he's going to be remembered as, "The president that saved the world"; which is the exact opposite of what they want.

Except that Medicare is the law. It's gotten past the Supreme Court. The Democrats aren't budging because upholding the law is what the government is supposed to fucking do.

The reason why the democrats have been shooting them down is that every last one of them has poison bills in them to defund a ton of departments. I'm not talking little things politicians sneak into bills, I'm talking like bills that are the equivalent of saying that you agree to let them shit in your mouth and ask you to sign the paper agreeing to it. All the democrats want is for the republicans to agree to raising the debt ceiling, but the problem is a lot of the shit heads in congress are trying to get stuff passed that would normally have no way in hell of ever coming to the floor by attaching it to the bill.

Yeah, Camo. We all know who started this, kept it going, and is still holding the US government hostage just so that Americans will not have health insurance. Democrats could've folded and let them win, at which point they would have never stopped using this strategy until America was controlled by a loud, insane minority... but I don't think we can't pretend that the hostage negotiator is just as much at fault as the hostage-taker.
