Might as well make some GOOD use of the stand your ground laws before they get sent off for rewrites, I guess. Seriously, though, be careful. Hope you're okay.

Thank you guys for the concern. I'm alright and it looks like they ran off. Just got to make sure to lock the doors tonight and probably not ignore Sissy's barking.

[pressure release rant]Urrrrrrgh… Well, I just spent nine hours (with about a 1.5 or less hour break) hammering against a homework assignment. I only stopped when I realized that the best way I could think of to proceed was to actually hammer it (seriously, I was sitting at my desk, holding the paper in the air, and punching it). I've only gotten six out of eleven problems done, too, and I'm only actually confident in four of those. This assignment is schizophrenic! Ridiculously easy problems interspersed with ridiculously hard ones, and of course it's the easy ones that have the answers in the back of the book. And the professor isn't exactly helpful. He's one of the ones that everyone consoles you about if you get them, apparently, and I can see why; classes consist mostly of him silently writing equations on the board (without explanation, lest you think that that was why spoken explanations weren't provided) in handwriting that has several times literally given me headaches. So now I'm planning to hopefully finish this off on Monday, which, as it's a day off, I was hoping to use for actual relaxation, or at least working on a different assignment.[/pressure release rant]

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Eh, it's nothing compared to some of the problems aired on here. I just wanted to rant to someone, and this seemed easiest. The good news is that my policy of not procrastinating on homework is paying off; while my experience with this has been extremely frustrating and much slower than I expected, the assignment isn't due until the Tuesday after next. Still, I'd really like to have my schedule clear to new things dropping into it, and I'm particularly annoyed by the problems that I'm not confident I solved properly.Mister Frost wrote:That's some shit, Hinds. Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Thanks. Also annoying is that this is actually relatively simple differential equations work of the sort I've done before, so I'm feeling stupid in addition to everything else. The uneven difficulty of the assignment isn't helping; I've no idea where the average difficulty of the assignment is meant to be and therefore no idea how I'm doing relative to it.swicked wrote:Yeah.O. Well, worst I've got at the moment is the requirement that I know Linux assembly code for this programming assignment due on the 11th. I know it's a ways off, but I've never looked at this stuff before. Gonna be interesting.
But I've had classes like yours, so you have my condolences/schadenfreude.

I may do that. I was planning to get this assignment done today, though, and before 1700. Hah, yeah. Though, annoyingly, this was based on the previous homework assignment from this class, which was the same sort of thing but with problems that were pretty easy and occasionally fun.swicked wrote:Hit up a TA if you can, nobody should be bothering them yet.
Huh, you too?swicked wrote:The professor, too, though professors like that usually ended up telling me to wait a bit as a lecture on how to do the homework was forthcoming.
Of course, they weren't lying, but that didn't make the assignment less frustrating.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I'm excited about how 3d printing is starting to become a big thing cause even though it will never replace mass production, it will however with specialty parts or expensive parts, or hard to manufacture parts for pretty much everything become extremely cheap. Also they're looking at it for medical purposes.RoboRed wrote:3d printing is awesome: http://www.space.com/22568-3d-printed-rocket-engine-test-video.html
The reason why it's good for nasa is that even though congress fucks them over budget wise 3d printing will reduce their costs to the point they can actually do what they need on their shoe string budget.
The other good thing is imagine being able to buy a life size warhammer 40k action figure for instead, of tens of thousands of dollars, for only a couple hundred dollars.
Also printing organs for people that needs like lungs, hearts or such and the organs being super cheap.

I just had a dream where I fucked someone's mom, in a school dormitory.
It felt surprisingly realistic.

I was awaiting that joke, but no. It was good ol' human on human sex.
As for who it was... I don't remember, and I don't think it's relevant anyway.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
If any of you guys like Warhammer - crazy thought, I know, but bear with me - you might want to watch Event Horizon. Or if you like weird horror scifi. I've only seen the first half so far, but that's been good enough that I don't care if the second sucks. Apparently, twenty minutes of footage was cut to get the film an R rating. :| I want to see those twenty minutes someday.
And the worst part is, the director apparently used up all his good directing skills on this one film, because as far as I can tell, literally everything else he has made is godawful. This one isn't original, at all - its best scenes are lifted from HR Giger and Alien and the like - but it's still... good. So far, anyway. Oh, and Anaal Nathrakh sampled it for for their first demo, I think. So that's nice!

Yeah, I have to concur. A number of people said it was subpar, but I don't care.
