Yes, but just adding in some color would change that. So lack of color?Mister Frost wrote:I mean the fact that they're outlines as opposed to, say, even the most rudimentary of actual drawings.Last wrote:They look fine to me. Are you talking about the lack of color?Mister Frost wrote:

I wonder what would happen if through their exploration of the Multi-verse, the SCP Foundation stumbled upon the Warhammer 40K universe.
2 scenarios :
1/ 40K universe, but current day (so actually 39,000 years before the era of the WH40K setting)
2/ 40K universe, in the 41st millenium
Points of interest :
- The reaction of the SCP foundation to Chaos, Demons, the Warp, the Eldar Webway, and most everything else, too
- The reaction of the Inquisition toward the SCP foundation 1/ for the fact it possess a shitload of things that would be considered demonic artifacts by its standards and 2/ it's a faction of mankind that isn't loyal to the Imperium and comes from another dimension.
I think there's enough material to write a few fanfics, there. I mean, if the SCP Foundation just doesn't close their exploration of that Verse after a few days and rank it as "not worth the effort, close the portal and forget it", or even "Keter-Class Dimension, keep contained at all cost".

They were delicious. M&M cookies.
I also have some dijon mustard in a packet for my sandwiches! And orange juice, also. And it's the weekend, now, too. Really, there's no reason to expect downhill anything in the near future at all. =P

Well, it really depends. The Foundation and most elements of the Inquisition would get along disturbingly well, while First Contact happening with most Space Marine or Guard units would end up with the Imperials killing the Foundation's exploration team, prompting the Foundation to dump a few Keter-classes in and close the door on their way out (finally getting rid of 682, for instance)Harmony Ltd. wrote:I wonder what would happen if through their exploration of the Multi-verse, the SCP Foundation stumbled upon the Warhammer 40K universe.

You know what, I'm pretty sure 682 would somehow find a way to come back from another dimension, just because.

SCP is basically the place where they put the Ark at the end of the first Indiana Jones movie; it's where Top Men examine reality-bending phenomenon, objects, and organisms, some more terrifying than others. The organization itself may be the most terrifying of all. Maybe.

It's around northeast of the center, and it's medium-small-sized, IIRC.

France and Britain got into this whole war over the Ohio River area, the 'Mid-West' During colonial periods. so if you consider that when looking for the state you know where canada and the british colonies are, after that you just go a little more west. and bing, ohio.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Pretty much were I remember it.

It's more a question of pronunciation that geographical confusion, 'cause I too had to look up where Iowa is.

It's just people trying to fool themselves into some ego-stroking again. They want to feel like they're self-reliant and not dependent on Evil Big Business, even if they're more familiar with the depths of space than they are with the technicalities of power generation.swicked wrote:
- Pointless rant about domestically-produced green energy:
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-08-22/homegrown-green-energy-is-making-power-utilities-irrelevant
This is a dumb article.
Question: what happens when a particularly bad thunderstorm, ice storm, etc. hits and powerlines go down? Are homeowners going to fix their lines? Will they have enough power stored from their solar panels to manage through the darkened skies, or be able to protect their lightweight, rapidly-spinning wind turbines from damage?
How much technological acuity does the average homeowner have?
As always, what will happen in areas where the sun and wind do not bare down quite so strongly? Can people move to producing their own baseload energy, too? Will everyone have their own generator for when they can't buy electricity from their neighbors?
Who is going to control this power, anyway? Our power grid, lines and substations and all, are set up pretty simply. Power pumps out from centralized locations, carefully distributed and balanced against the grid using systems that span the nation. Distributed generation makes this flux mapping MUCH harder and requires a lot more moving parts to prevent damage to a grid that's just not supposed to work this way. Power IS being produced by residential customers that the grid, occasionally, doesn't need... and they're still being paid for it while the distributers either drain the power back into the ground or force some baseload power station to readjust to this unstable energy, wasting money by operating inefficiently and putting their own plant at risk due to the rapid requirements of such throttling.
The comparison to landlines vs. mobile phones in the article is outright idiocy. The mobile phone companies can take the responsibility for reliable service; the average residential producer hardly knows how their solar panels even work.
The comparison to airline companies doesn't even make sense.
Look at it this way, we may pay for our cars and gas, but our taxes pay for the upkeep and building of roads.
Utilities need some regulation to allow them to take a flat rate out of homeowners to maintain the grid. That or the government needs to take over the job, though then our grid would end up in a similar state to how our roads are, and you wouldn't be able to realistically press for a more rapid response to blackouts against some government office, so maybe that wouldn't be as good of an idea.
Unless someone wants to argue that the government could respond to such an emergency as rapidly as private organizations can? :P
In any case, reduction in power is GOOD for utilities, in many ways. They can retire a lot of their aging infrastructure and condense their generation. At the same time, though, consumers need to take some form of responsibility for their privatized generation. If they are producing power that no one needs, they should not be paid for distribution centers needing to drain that from the lines. We need a smart grid that can control residential generation in order to protect the integrity of the grid from being filled to too great a value.
I mean, right now, a lot of plants (mine included*, as well as most coal plants) are actually producing negative income. It costs more for us to produce the power than we can make from selling it. The power is needed, though, because it would cost even more for Ameren to purchase power from another utility, who's going to overcharge like heck since their plants are producing negative cash flow in many cases, too.
Shuttering these places and not needing to replace them is incredibly profitable. Seriously, by all means, let us kill these things off. The only people that really want them are those employed at them.
No one could argue that a restructuring isn't required but, barring a lot of government regulatory idiocy, the idea behind this article of power utilities dying off due to homegrown green energy is ridiculous.
*per an all-employee meeting held last Wednesday we are, in fact, we're the worst drain on resources in the entire fleet. This according to our Chief Nuclear Officer, who is just one step under the president of the entire company (Ameren).
Yeah, I don't have much faith in my plant. At least two (though I want to say three) nuclear plans shut down this year.
Within the nuclear industry, several of the single-unit plants joined together to form an organization called STARS, the idea being that we work together so that we have more regulatory sway and can support each other in the industry. Two of our number (originally seven, now five) just quit the alliance citing financial reasons. Leaving the group for something like that is pretty short-sighted, so it just goes to show how much in trouble we all are right now.
P.S.
...err, I guess most of this assumes we eventually get to a point where domestically-produced energy is a significant percentage of production. Not quite the case as of yet, so most of what I just said isn't particularly relevant to the here and now of the current energy market...
It's much like, say, the Egyptian Revolution. Some called it the "Twitter Revolution' because of all the support it got on social networking sites, as if their 'Like's actually changed anything. They just want to feel good about themselves without actually doing anything.
swicked wrote:Unless someone wants to argue that the government could respond to such an emergency as rapidly as private organizations can? :P
Considering that, after Katrina, Blackwater was on-site before the National Guard, I think private organizations have a slight edge.
