They call them... the Stark-katteri.

(but lol at the joke, really)
@ Somber : The Stark are a clan of protagonists from the series of novels "A Song of Ice and Fire", from what I gather.

There are no particular protagonists. Every character, who more or less important enough are main.
Also, spoiler alert. EVERYONE DIES!

Yeah, from what I heard if the whole place got nuked to oblivion it would probably be a net positive in human terms.
Anyway, back on 57. I liked it. Can't really build any kind of constructive criticism right now, but I have to say 75% of me was expecting this thread to have turned into another joust by the time I finished reading the chapter, what with Glory's further character development and the confirmation that, be it because of her transformation into Rainbow Dash, BlackJack's influence or simply because of all the shit she's gone through since the beginning of the story ; her old self is slowly being eroded away, and part of her she thought fundamental are changing.
(and holy shit do I need to stop doing paragraph-length sentences)

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
- horribly-formatted stream-of-consciousness chapter thoughts:
- A few bobby pins… so that was what they were for…
-heehee...
“Rainbow…” she breathed as she stared at Glory for a moment, then shook her head. “Forgive me,” she said with an apologetic smile.
-Looks like maybe Twilight leaked through a little bit there...
Splendid’s room was decorated with photographs of Ministry Mares, particularly Rainbow Dash and Applejack.
-Well, now we know why he went for Glory.
Boo wore an absolutely adorable pink dress with bows and tiny stitching of cupcakes along the hem and a small round cap decorated like a cake with pink frosting. To her credit, only one tiny spot looked like she’d given it a nibble.
-Wave, you know what you must do...
Scotch Tape commented on how Glory’s dress made her at least one fifth cooler.
-i.e. 20% cooler. lol.
Finally, Splendid looked at Boo and hesitated a moment as she blinked cluelessly at him.
-It just hit me...how is Boo going to act/react at a formal event?
The band… correction, the strange robopony DJs from Flank… played a grand tune from two centuries ago, and I stared straight ahead at the throne on the far side of the room.
The two robot-helmeted ponies I’d met a lifetime ago in Flank began to play music, a strange blend of classical melody and modern beat as they worked the controls.
-It does seem like a lifetime, doesn't it? Also, had a bit of each of these songs going in my head. Because, y'know, DJ robotponies = Daft Punk:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRJOk7z4mws
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m4ZkEqQrn0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvR9-LniaPM
I couldn’t answer. I just felt… tired. I cupped my forehooves and poured a small pile of broken glass into them from the bag. Curved glass. The exact curve of memory orbs. “I guess she found out she wasn’t my pick for regent,” I muttered as I dumped them back into the sack.
-Oh, I want to kill her...ye gods, I want to kill her right now, the little shit...
“Charity? Where?” I looked around in horror for a moment, feeling poverty sneaking up on me. Then I forced myself to calm down…
“Right here,” the filly snapped as she stepped up to my side.
-goddamnit.
If we can’t, we might have to evacuate the hospital and relocate to Rocket Town at the Luna Space Center. Unfortunately, we have friction with the ghouls who live there,”
- for once, a fallout reference I actually get.
I felt someone step up behind me; ahah! I whirled, ready to defe-- I was yanked off my hooves like an insolent filly and hauled into the air! I felt my body whirled around as a massive stallion crowed, “Glorious day, Your Majesty!” He held me like a cyberpony doll with one powerful foreleg while the other thrust towards the heavens. “Never would I, Paladin Sugar Apple Bombs Stronghoof, have imagined that such a low and listless young mare would rise to such glorious heights!”
-YES! FUCK YES!
If it wasn’t for the survivors’ help--“
“Survivors!?” I gasped, grabbing her shoulders. “Who? How? Where?”
-WHAT?
Stronghoof wasn’t listening, though. He stared across the room, and his eyes shone with tiny stars. Like a stallion possessed, he strode away from us towards Lacunae, who stood beside the buffet.
- :D
That made my mane and tail twitch. “Zebras? You’re having problems with zebras?”
-Okay, all these Zebras popping up in everyone's stories? Something's going on...
@Shadowbolt Tower: Getting even more and more excited for this part. Can't wait till the story moves this way.
“Blackjack,” Hoity said from behind me. “It’s almost time.”
-Oh boy...
I froze at the sound, and then actually smiled a little. “I knew it,” I muttered as I turned and looked at the kindly pink face of Steel Rain. The stallion was dressed in a tux every bit as fine as Hoity’s; I supposed that, being with the Harbingers, he could get his hooves on anything. “I knew things were going too smoothly.”
-well, damn.
@SR's mission for the memory orbs: Sic 'em, Steel.
I looked around the Gala. Not exactly what I’d expected for a party, but there wasn’t any blood and gore yet. Boo stood with a dozen fancy ponies around her, and I frowned as I moved closer. If they were bothering her...
“Yes, clearly the political situation with the Twilight Society is one that needs to be addressed first, don’t you think, Lady Boo?” a mare asked, and Boo cocked her head in reply.
“Oh, I agree completely! While the Twilight Society should be considered, it’s clear that Red Eye and his army is a far more pressing concern,” a fancy stallion said immediately, and Boo just cocked her head at him instead. “I’m certain that you agree, Miss Boo.”
Boo seemed far more interested in the hors d’oeurve cupcake he levitated beside him. She stretched up to take a bite, when another mare reached out and hugged her. “Oh, you are too right, Baroness Boo. We’re stretching ourselves out trying to concern ourselves with problems abroad when we have so many right here! All these refugees streaming into the valley are a ripe opportunity, wouldn’t you say?”
Boo’s nostrils twitched and she took a deep breath. The fancy ponies leaned in raptly, and then she sneezed right in the mare’s face. For an instant, all were silent. Then a stallion crowed, “Hear hear! We shouldn’t be exploiting these poor folk, Wineglass! Take a page from our new queen. Exploitation might get you ahead in the short term, but we need to look at things from a longer perspective.”
Boo, who had snagged his cupcake while he’d been distracted, gave a beaming smile that set all the others talking and nodding in agreement with her. I couldn’t keep from grinning as we moved past. Fortunately, nopony seemed to want to bother me with their trivial concerns. Instead, they seemed to be focusing on Grace and the other ponies who would really matter once I’d gone.
-I...I don't even. XD
Well, figured it would be Grace.
And as Grace addressed the crowd, I felt a little purple unicorn inside me being quite proud of what I’d learned. The only oddity was... why did I want to write to the princess about it?
-D'awww...
@P-21/Gloy/BJ relationship convo: Oh...here comes the screaming from the reading masses...
...Yeah...defnitely screaming...
She firmly locked down on my body and told me. There would be no verbalizing this scream. No fights that could wake my friends. Nothing. Lacunae’s horn glowed, and together we disappeared in a flash.
We were on our way to Maripony to kill LittlePip.
- And there it is...the explosion.
And one heck of a twist.

Not 100% perfect, but it's a nice one.Somber wrote:I do have one regret about the chapter though. No song. I have one in my head for it. I have the music in my head for it, but I have no way to create it. I imagined P-21 telling Blackjack to finally relax as they twirl around the dance floor. Then Glory jumps in. Then P-21. Then both of them together. Then fade to the 'ahem' scene. Since it's a slow song, I can't find real world analogies to use.

Also one of my expectations, though I'd say this has been a long time coming, and (to me at least) it doesn't come as out of left field considering :here comes the screaming from the reading masses...
- Glory opening up at the possibility of a threesome with BJ and some other stallion in the chapter.
- The underlying tension there's been between P-21 and BJ since the beginning of the story.
- Everyone was shitfaced.

It is major character development for Morning Glory, but I can't think of any reasons why it would be out-of-character for her, after all she's been through, to not at least re-examine her beliefs. She's been dealing with heavy mental-dissonance for a long time now. What else could have happened, really?

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Exactly what I had in mind. Basically everything she's went through has conspired to deconstruct who she thought she was and what she believed in, bit by bit, down to the most fundamental layers of her personality. No wonder in these condition she would slip up and fuck a stallion while she's in heat and not in full control of herself ; or why she'd accept to do a threesome with BlackJack, her last anchor of stability in this world, when said anchor time and time again insisted on the fact that she didn't mind in the last bit about Glory giving up monogamy and straight up told her that she would be a-okay with a threesome.
It's perfectly "in character", from my point of view :
She's broken down to the last bit.

Now the question would be what is this lump of clay going to be molded into by the end of the story ?

Oh, also is it only me, or was the first paragraph of the chapter an answer to the whole debate there had been after 56 ?
With the "Councilor Boo" and the "crown chewing" bits, that's at least three possible nods to this thread / 4chan I caught this chapter.
Not that it's a bad thing in itself, just remarking.

I stake no claim in inspiration as Somber probably had it planned long in advance, but I did mentally go "Called it!' when it came down to Blackjack telling all three siblings that regardless who was picked the others should support them or leave and don't interfere.
On the subject of Glory, the question of "is the mind a plaything of the body?" probably fits. Though the fact she was able to be a smart pony for a while when it came to discussing the virus proves she still Glory. And the scene where Blackjack went "and for a moment I saw the gray color mare as clear as day" was a nice thing to put in.

I don't mean to brag, but Blackjack's choice was about how I imagined it would be. Pick the compassionate one as ruler and let the competent one be chancellor with certain limitations. I just didn't believe she'd give Charm a chance after how petty and immature she's behaved. And despite her precautions, I have a feeling she's just spoiled enough to test Blackjack's patience and plot revenge against her own sibling. With Grace now being the only remote family Blackjack has left, I can't see this going well.
And the drunk love scene of Blackjack was really sad knowing what will happen now. I'd almost say it was too short, and it's going to be rather painful for her companions in the morning when they see she's gone. Even though Blackjack has a good reason for not telling them, it's going to be a tearful reunion.

Somber wrote:I'm glad the chapter went okay. I know 4chan won't like it, but they don't like anything. Seriously. I have never seen them praise any story. So I've learned not to be sorry about not gaining something that I'm not going to get.
So I finally gave in to curiosity and took a look at the fallout equestria thread on 4chan. I am really upset by what I saw there, but I know some of us don't want to talk about it, so I'm hoping we can keep it in spoiler tags please.
- Angry Rant:
They hate everything! They hate backstory, they hate worldbuilding, they think any character development at all is bad characterization, (and therefore hate it.) They hate the original FoE. They hate drunken threesomes! One of them posted a half-assed list of deliberately inaccurate statements about what happens in the chapter. Everyone else is spinning their words from the nit-picks in that one piece of bullshit.
Remember back in the early days of the Brony fandom, there were lots of people saying that Bronies were just a group of people who pretended to like the show? I now see how people believed that kind of massive, organized fakery was possible. The /mlp/ fallout thread has self-organized into a massive hate circle. They are a meta-troll, a self-perpetuating anger machine that manufactures artificial hatred.
Project Horizons is a story with flaws. But the people in that thread have a much deeper resentment towards PH: They don't want to see a story with a happy ending. PH has moments of the absolute deepest black. Many of us here have felt it, know intimately that pain in the soul. From what I see, this group wants nothing more than to revel in that darkness.
I'm torn. Part of me wants to put a copy of this post on that thread. Call them out. I know it will most probably not help with anything, but I don't mind trying and failing with my typed words. The other part of me, however, cringes at the thought of seeing even worse from these idiots pretending to be both moral crusaders and heartless monsters.

You probably looked in there at a bad time Derp. Granted I've never been there but I do believe Kip in that deep in the middle of all that there is some who actually like the story and have good points and the like.
I thought about going there myself, seeing what all the fuss is about. But I decided not to. It's not worth any kind of pain it would bring. My words have no place there and I have no reason for ever being there. You can do what you want, as can everybody else, but there's no place for me there.
So P-21 cleans up nicely and spent more time with his daughter acting like a dad. I haven't mentioned that before but I really enjoyed that part as well. I'm all for good father figures. I know they're not rare in fiction, but for somebody who comes from a so called broken family it's nice to see.
Which is weird cause I'm on good terms with my dad. Yeah he's not Father of the Year material and is an ass most of the time, but he did his best to be a good dad in his own way.

I wouldn't say this chapter paints him as a good dad. He got drunk and slept with two mares. During this he left scotchtape with rampage and the filly that foal napped her. I wouldn't call that good parenting.

Other then the dealer? I don't think it will. I didn't mean to imply it would either, sorry. All I was trying to say was that it's going to immediately raise alarm when they find it as opposed to the smaller alarm of BJ wandered off again. As far as destroying it goes there's a certain symbolism to that. "Your quest is over BJ, you're mine now."
She's taken joy in this kind of thing before. Why not now?

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Finally got this done, just a thought log thingamajig. It's kinda convoluted and silly, though I tried to give thoughts on things, even if nobody reads it it helps me remember PH to a degree.
- Spoiler:
- Best Night Ever? The Gala. Wheee.
I find this funny. At least Blackjack would understand some of what she's talking about.Cuddling with Glory and talking about ‘psychosexual metamorphic influences’ was more appealing than being in a place where I was expected to actually interact.
I am fond of the way Hoity Toity speaks. I love it when authors do different personalities well.
So there is still three, but two don't have as much power... I still don't think it'll work too well.
Given his reaction(you didn't tell us, curse you!), it's probably not Stygius, since he'd say something like him not being in the Society. The obvious one is Grace, but he'd be less surprised if that were so, I'd think... Hmm.
Doof is best guardian. Just don't make him mad.
Heh, Lancer. He could probably escape anyway. Don't ask me how, though.
And minotaur guy. Thought he'd be involved somehow with the new regent.
Catcrows? Interesting. Preying on the carrion of war...
The Enervation kills the soil. I guess it could be taken literally in that it might kill microorganisms, but you can't detect that easily. Maybe minotaurs get some sort of magical sense... he has some interesting beliefs. Rocks being alive isn't exactly a new concept in PH, though.
Flowers. A waste of growing space and water.
Vanity doesn't have much of a place in the wasteland.
Oh Blackjack. You don't understand.
The same design as Dash's Gala dress? That's just grand.
They even learn silly spells. Heh. The Society is quite wasteful indeed.
Half the cities in the Enclave are empty, hm? Likely due to the lack of mines and food. Reminds me of how close we are to exhausting what little humanity still has...
It's not quite so dire as I like to think, though. It's just something people seem not to think about enough.
Eee. Rampage.
Also, Boo cake dress? Heh.
I can only imagine how fun it was to write the descriptions for the dresses.
"White is the colour of death", eh? What colour is Blackjack, Glory? White.
"One fifth cooler" doesn't quite roll off the tongue like 'twenty percent' does, but it works.
That's an... odd gesture from P-21, given that he hates Blackjack. Sort of. Maybe.
Oh Splendid, you so smug.
Stompy and shooty looks. Glory doesn't get a 'beamy' look to complete the motif?
I'm sure that plan will go exactly as intended...
I don't remember robopony DJs, but that's cool.
Looks like some ponies know what to get the Security Mare. Hope none of it is sabotaged.
But not Charm. Little brat. Memories are priceless.
Heh, Pew-Pew. Plenty of tiny shoutouts.
Bottlecap. Not a bad pony.
Zebras. The Remnant is up to something, alright. Yup.
And Red Eye's troops? What was he doing near Megamart? I've forgotten.
Good to know what became of them. Wonder why they're heading to Shattered Hoof.
And Charity. Heh. Maybe the outfits came from that Stable she had. If I remember that right.
Caprice. How far she'd fallen from the pedestal.
Other good ponies that I don't remember well.
Another little shoutout.
Damn it Blackjack. Every time now.
Ah, Boing. Not dead yet.
Don't ghouls not eat?
Stronghoof, and Crumpets. I like them.
On to the nasty business.
Stable 2's orchard... gets even nastier.
Survivors. Uh-oh.
Good that they're well... good.
Oh, and Lacunae. Heh.
Everyone is a lesbian in the wasteland. Duh.
Here we go again. All the sexings!
And those guys, too. Everyone's coming over, it seems. The area must be emptied.
Best tradition, that one.
Again? This chapter is just full of it.
Quite the sad one, that story.
Ten-second rebellions are the best sort.
Rampage's prediction on why the zebras are around is kinda funny.
The wasteland doesn't end in the clouds, everyone still wants to kill each other.
That tower is going to be quite a fight.
Steel Rain. And Charm too. Simply fantastic.
And again, Blackjack. What is this, fourth time?
Hah. Stupid Rain.
Pfft. Boo makes best smalltalk.
Perfect interruption. Just flawless.
Glory is just a riot this chapter.
Grace, of course.
Pfft, Charm. Nice tantrum.
Oh, and I thought that would be too predictable. Oh well. I never predict things correctly, because I'm not smart.
Yes, Blackjack. You're lucky you can just eat at least some of your problems.
Oh dear. A love triangle. I'd consider this OOC, but those 'changes' are really taking a toll.
But not every reader thinks that.
P-21 gives remarkable relationship advice, all things considered.
Poor Marmalade. Really, in that society, that kinda means something.
Contraception spell. Convenient.
Oh, again with the monogamy and all the crazy sexy shenanigans. Almost at the end of the chapter, and many chapters end with sexytimes.
All the more surreal that I read Fo:E-related material at all. Because I'm not crazy. Totally.
And now Glory has free run? Not sure that's a good idea.
P-21 wants to dance? And they taught him? Hmm.
All fun. Nothing wrong. Odd for PH.
Ridiculous muscles!
Also alcohol. And sex. A lot of sex.
P-21? Really? Not sure what I think of that. He was drunk, though. Right?
I know some people won't like that, but I'm neutral to it, as I am with most of the sexual aspects of the story. Not what I read it for. What it means for characters is important, however. But, what this particular incident means for later is in the air to me.
Trixie in the mirror? Uh-oh.
To kill Littlepip? Oh noes! Good thing she doesn't succeed...

Good chapter. A lot of talking, but I'm used to that and I don't have much to complain about, being rather easy to please. I'm interested with what's happening next.
It's nice that Squeak gave some input. He was a good(and not ridiculously bitter) analyst, I think.

I can't even navigate 4chan. Never in my life have I seen such a cluttered mess of innane banter and non-sequeators outside an M. Night Shyamalan movie.

Wait, so you're killing people to keep them from killing each other?Harmony Ltd. wrote:Yeah, from what I heard if the whole place got nuked to oblivion it would probably be a net positive in human terms.
It's the perfect plan!

Don't. There's no point in showing around a bucket of vomit and ranting about how vomity it is. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows what they're looking at the instant they see it, most people are happy to take your word for it rather than look themselves, and those who put it there aren't going to take it back no matter what you say.Derpmind wrote:I'm torn. Part of me wants to put a copy of this post on that thread. Call them out. I know it will most probably not help with anything, but I don't mind trying and failing with my typed words. The other part of me, however, cringes at the thought of seeing even worse from these idiots pretending to be both moral crusaders and heartless monsters.
swicked wrote:They definitely like aspects of it. They've read a lot of the work and there are definite positives they could point out. They just aren't as passionate about saying nice things. It's easier to be angrier for the negative.
Even those who mostly like the work are unlikely to say so because they might then have to defend it against others who have decided to hate on it because scathing criticism is more fun to both write and read. They want to say these things and receive praise for what they have said and the way they've said it. Bitter wit, and all that. It's a fun and easy way to feel superior to someone who's actually creating something worthwhile, too.

Oh, this sorta slipped my mind. That pegasus half heart and his raider wife, anyone send that small part to Kim? Something tells me it would be relevant to her interest.
Also I didn't realize there were non brain diseased raiders in ph.

Sky Striker? That's what I assumed, at least.Evilgidgit wrote:Being me, I am intrigued who the "war hero" is that was mentioned when his wife broke into Shadowbolt Tower.
I hadn't even thought of that particular angle. Yay science!Icy Shake wrote:So, I, too, am a little disappointed that she made the change so quickly, and I certainly differentiate strongly between her making what she sees as a regrettable mistake in last chapter and the apparent reevaluation of her values in this. However, among the other arguments in favor of this happening eventually is the fact that Glory is at heart a scientist, so seeing that Blackjack's attitude toward sexuality makes her happy whereas her own mostly brings her misery—sometimes but far from always caused by Blackjack—I would expect her to update her estimated probability distribution regarding what sexual outlook would be best for her—not to do so would be a little derpy.

Sky Striker would qualify as a war hero, wouldn't he? That completely passed me by the first time.

Don't worry about it; there are plenty of other people doing that.Ketchup wrote:Didn't spot any typos. Wasn't looking hard.
Well, even in the Hoof, I imagine that not every single pony classified as "raider" has the disease; most ponies don't even know about the disease, after all, so they think of Hoofington raiders as just being even worse than raiders elsewhere. Of course, living a typical raider lifestyle in the Hoof would usually lead to very quickly contracting the disease, but she was a pegasus.Last wrote:Also I didn't realize there were non brain diseased raiders in ph.

True. I just liked the idea that some of them are just drugged up assholes instead of having a disease they can blame their behavior on. Thought it was worth mentioning.

Whelp, I'm not angry anymore. It kinda helps that I just watched Spaceballs again. But you're right, Harmony Ltd., Swicked, SilentCarto:
Well, maybe that's not completely accurate. But they're still idiots. I'm not gonna post anything there.

Yay, done.
Nice chapter, the unnerving nervous nervousness of everything was felt but I knew either it was gonna end on a cliffhanger of doom out of nowhere or nothing bad would happen. Glad it ended the way it did.
Re: Glory and monogamy: Glory has performance anxiety. That's the core of her frustration the way I see it. She's very inexperienced and was brought up in a way of thinking that's now being challenged and is very tough for her to sort out. She's also on the rag which makes things a lot worse. Again, she's not giving up on things, she's trying to understand herself, her body and part of the core of her being in order to understand Blackjack. Part of this can be jumping headon into new experiences irrationally. You could say it's strange now since we were already introduced to leather dominitrix Glory but you've gotta remember that that was her using a power scenario to keep BJ happy and from offing herself. This is a post-Styg world now, so things are a little different. Also note that at some point Glory gave Blackjack a little too much slack since BJ is much more comfortable now with oggling dudes with Glory around so that's gotta put her on edge a little more, too. I would have liked that balcony scene to have gone on a bit longer since conversations of that nature are much more complex but it'd probably hurt the pacing of the chapter.
However, best part of this? By far BJ and P-21's hug. That was downright heartwarming. It's so so so good to see P-21 happy. The coda seemed to be a longtime coming as well and his little dry joke was great too. I love it when P-21, the great stubborn equalizer, is in a peaceful, happy mood. He's the perfect bestie for BJ.
And how about the potential arts that can come from this! Holy moley, pony dressup ahoy!

But really, no one could find a proper dress for Scotch other than Sweeble's talent show costume?
