Both of those are good scenes that I managed to retain fairly well.Overthepacific wrote:Did this thread really fall off of the latest topics for two whole days? Weird.
Well, to attempt a revive, it might have been talked about before, but I'm curious.
What was every ones favorite part of the story?
- Spoiler:
Me personally, I'm stuck between two parts. The first being the final fight with dues in flank. That scene just felt like everything was all coming down at once and everyone was fighting, I loved it.
The second would be Blackjacks fight with Steel Rain. As far as epic moments go, that was pretty high up there.
I'm not sure what else to say, so everybody else go at it.
I'd say one of my favourite parts was the screaming room. That's one that stuck with me.

I think I remember someone calling it the choir room or something. Maybe it was mech.
I think that's what ended up making the scene with steel rain so powerful in the end.
- Spoiler:
- Was there somebody with blackjack when she went in there? I wanna say rampage was there, but I dont remember.

I think that was more from her using folly so much, and how else would you kill a megaspell chamber full of melted screaming ponies?

I was talking about Rampage, she re-assured Blackjack by saying she had been mutated before. IF that's the right scene.Overthepacific wrote:I think that was more from her using folly so much, and how else would you kill a megaspell chamber full of melted screaming ponies?Ketchup wrote:

Yeah, the (first) Death of Deus was really good. The Geminis were pretty great, and their deaths made me legitimately sad even though they'd been villains in that scenario.
I would have loved to see more out of them, but it felt right for Mini to give herself up to put an end to a real monster.

I think some of the best, for me, were Blackjack's scene leading up to and at Star Point, and her reunion with Rampage and Glory in chapters 23 and 25, respectively, and the end of chapter 33. Psalm dreams place very highly as well, particularly the one at the orphanage.

We were all silently going for a new academy record for longest lull in PH discussion. We were only 40 minutes away!Overthepacific wrote:Did this thread really fall off of the latest topics for two whole days? Weird.
In trying to remember what parts I liked the most, I opened up the hub page and took a browse through the chapters.

- All spoilers must be double spoilers:
>MFW the memories.
The chapters I remember strongly are all off the scale in their own special ways, and the ones I don't remember that well tempt me because I know each and every one will be excellent. I can't pick any favorites because I'm too busy re-reading PH from the start. Sorry.

Like Ketchup said, she was accompanied by Rampage during that scene, and Rampage "dispatched" the room by blasting the room (and herself in the process) with an explosive mix of gases ignited by a shotgun blast. Can't remember if the gases came from bottles or talismans - they were in what had been a laboratory.Overthepacific wrote:

Probably still that bilingual sign back in 42 for me, I think. PH has a great many quite good points, but that was one single, simple moment of the joy of discovery.Overthepacific wrote:Did this thread really fall off of the latest topics for two whole days? Weird.

I'll agree with all of these, especially finishing 33 and the orphanage dream. However, I'd say that the scene that has stuck with me the most is PLAY, especially that damn jack-in-the-box. Strangely, even more than the foals and the song. I think that might actually be the first time I've ever "audibly" sworn. I'm usually a bit like Murky.Icy Shake wrote:I think some of the best, for me, were Blackjack's scene leading up to and at Star Point, and her reunion with Rampage and Glory in chapters 23 and 25, respectively, and the end of chapter 33. Favourite moments for myself would be Happyhorn and Yellow River. Happyhorn was a nice change of pace, and safeties-off Blackjack makes the best battle scenes. The earlier Psalm dreams (when she was just a nameless soldier on her mission) are up there as well, though.

The chamber of the taint addled ponies was an incredibly striking moment. Anytime when Blackjack gets drunk and goes on a rampage.
But my absolute favorite has to be when Scotch gets her cutie mark, actually any good moment between them. Absolutely wonderful and daww inducing.

I wonder what would happen if Blackjack read MN7. I'm pretty sure filly might be shut down in a week.
Also, what does IIRC mean?

THE MYSTERIOUS TACO IS POSTING! A GLORIOUS DAY IT IS.
I totally agree about that. Would make a fantastic crossover
- Spoiler:
Blackjacks plan of action following reading MN7
1. Go to Fillydelphia
2. Get inside
3. Feel no remorse while gunning down Slavers
4. Geld Shackles
5. Rescue Murky and friends
6. Feel remorse for killing Slavers
7. Feel no remorse for Gelding Shackles
8. Hug Murky for all time
9. Get him laid
10. Get drunk with Glimmer
11:???
12. Angst

When being eaten alive by my crazy this evening, I looked up some fan art on Blackjack and immediately felt better. Then I realize I have four amazing chapters to read to be caught up. Oh the whole PH has been 50 chapters of the best literary experience and story I could have hoped for. Thank you Somber. The story is a reflection of you as a person, and that's why I've loved every chapter.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Indeed, that does happen from time to time. I don't think it's really a huge issue for the thread to lull sometimes, considering just how much the ponies here do talk when they get to it.Overthepacific wrote:Did this thread really fall off of the latest topics for two whole days? Weird.

As for favorite parts of the story:
- Spoiler:
- Chapter 43, definitely. I know the events of the chapter are something of a "common story element", but I think Somber handled the entire thing so incredibly well.
The Choir room was indeed a fantastic scene as well, and I think it stands out well for how frightening it is.
Some of my other favorite pieces... Rampage's introduction (I've always loved her going, "Oh yeah, Leo. You're such a badass." ), and Boo's introduction as well, along with most of her interaction in 38 (especially her riding on Blackjack's back with the bag over her head).
And I could probably list a lot more, but I'll stop there.

Seems it's "Do you even?".
Favorite parts of the story...

Request timed out.
The entire story? I'd have to do a re-reading to identify the actual favorite moments, but I kind of enjoy every chapter.

My favourite scene is probably Happyhorn. It's very Total Recal-ish to imagine that Blackjack is really just mentally sick from psychological trauma she suffered, and it turns the entire story upside down if you assume Go Fish has divorced reality and took away the home and the car as communal property.
Others would be the end of chapter 21 and it's gruesome scene, and the entirety of chapter 33 because of how sad it is. It's moments like these that really make you sympathize with poor Blackjack.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
- Spoiler:
Blackjack yelling "Hey Doofus" way back in chapter 1 and how it
completely sets big D off. Come to think of it, that whole rewritten
first chapter was so much better once I knew all the things it was
foreshadowing.
The crazy museum escapade.
The Choir.
Chaos is a wonderful, wonderful thing.
Four gangers and a Reaper, sitting in a bunker.
A healthy diet of glass and why you shouldn't kick cyborgs in the stomach.
And reading back, number 33. A really powerful ending, but I'm ever so glad it didn't stick.
And one of the most iconic in my eyes: The hospital crawl, when we really got to see what Blackjack was made of.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Flank is such a great arc because a lot of stuff happens that's centered around the one town and the battle is great with a satisfying afterglow of BJ in the tub. Also, the post-Flash stuff with dying BJ and Glory is pretty great because it develops them together a bit more, transitioning with Blackjack just plain falling apart.
Though I really like the Tenpony stuff, between BJ struggling with her new body and rationalizing why she should be alive, her adventure with LP, etc. There were some interesting rationalizations our hero makes for the first time that are quite notable.
And I guess I'll also mention Prof. Zodiac's Classroom of Exposition because Somber put a great deal of thought into that backstory and it was never uninteresting.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
It comes from the phrase "Do you even lift?" which originated on a bodybuilding forum. Somebody asked how to work a particular muscle, and some smartass user posted something idiotic, to which a regular replied, "Do you even lift?" The phrase became a standard way to put down somebody who's being stupid, suggesting they've come to the forum just to troll, and later it wandered into the rest of the internet via 4chan (natch) as DYE <whatever>.swicked wrote:I dunno the DYE one. First google result was the definition of dye, as you'd expect.
And now you know!
