Anyway, sorry for being silent so long.
While I'm at it, being the resident /g/entleman and computer repair guy for many of my friends... do you know where the issue stems from? If you don't know what the issue is, any symptoms you could describe to me?

I think it's better for the Goddess's mental blocks to be preventing BJ from using the broadcaster than for the one enervation field BJ's in to happen to have a jammer installed. It's all kinda minor though.

I agree here. There's not much time left, so it wouldn't necessarily come up again, but presumably the Goddess would have a plan in place to prevent this without relying on conventional signals always being jammed when her telepathic signals are. Especially since possibly her all-time favorite Blackjack moment was when
so she wouldn't forget about Blackjack's broadcaster, either.I wrote:Arrrrgh! Do you have a radio? What? There's one built into your leg? One that (is a replacement for the one that) greatly impacted your personal life? Why not use it, now that the Goddess is cut off?

*circa just after chapter 48*
Littlepip: ...and that’s when we started running, Hellhounds from every side, popping out of the ground, gunning at us from-
Blackjack: -excuse me, but... Hellhounds?
Littlepip: ...do you not have those in Hoofington? Big dogs with cyber enhancements?
Blackjack: Oh, Sand Dogs! I love those guys.
Littlepip: ...THIS is what I beat you on?
Blackjack: I don’t know, are we calling it a game, now?
Littlepip: No, I-
Blackjack: Have I ever told you about Hightower? The glowing blue sewer ooze monsters? How about ever-screaming ghouls, some still barely in touch with their sanity, or their jailer, a massively fat burned and broiled half-pony oozing fire and blood through his split, leathery flesh... oh, the smells, they were practically tastes, really, the way they stuck in the back of your throat...
Littlepip: Right, do you happen to have any super glue? I don’t seem to be having any luck keeping my mouth shut on my own.
Blackjack: Ugh, if you do that, your lips will fuse together... Oh! Which happened to me, once. Luckily I had my sword on hoof to slice them open again, otherwise I’d NEVER have gotten to make out with the spirit of chaos itself. Do you have ANY idea how LONG his tongue is? And, hell, you know what they say about long tongues!
Littlepip: *glares for a moment, then stomps off*
Blackjack: *sips whiskey*
Velvet: ...hey, what are you, whoa! ...uh, hi, Blackjack... Littlepip just walked over, tapped me on the hoof, then shoved me over here saying “Your turn.” Care to explain?
Blackjack: Oh, sure, it’s just this little game we’ve been playing. Don’t worry, you’ll pick up on the rules quickly enough...
P.S.
Littlepip: No! I said no! It’s your turn! You went over there and everything!
Velvet: No, she’s your friend; you have to listen to her.
Littlepip: But I don’t want to!
Velvet: Tough, after she told me about the... *shiver* and the... *bigger shiver* I... you’re going to do this. You started it, after all.
Littlepip: I DID NOT! Come back! Don’t leave me with her!!
Blackjack: *downs a whiskey bottle* So, back for more, eh?
Littlepip: Humf, not willingly.
Blackjack: Glad to hear it. Now, where was I... oh, right, long tongues! Let me tell you about Stygius, this bat pony that bumped into me... repeatedly.
Littlepip: Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh.......

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Hmmm. That's a frightening possibility. It does bring into question a lot of things we thought we knew about Goldie's last days. If his execution was a charade, then he could well be the one inside the Redoubt after all. Hell, it might have sent him there directly, no need to open the door.FeatherDust wrote:No wonder Goldie is so determined to have himself executed for all the crimes of the OIA. Luna is hock-deep in it all! She knows about most, if not all, of it. In her Eclipse-guise, she's mocking her own pretense. "Princess Luna sits on her throne and makes impressive speeches while the Ministries do all their acts behind her back. Poor Princess Luna."
She's knowingly fooling around with horrific experiments of every sort and then playing dumb. I mean, that's... Luna's evil.
Goldenblood is determined to take the fall for the mare he loves. He's going to be executed at the end so that she can look like an innocent dupe rather than -- well -- basically Nightmare Moon without armor.
Which brings me back to another point. We've sort of assume that Luna was what shocked BJ so badly inside the Tokomare. Luna and Celestia are at least partially luminous souls, so maybe she was horrified to see the EoS gnawing on Luna.
But there's one other possibility that's been lurking in the back of my head for a while. The green lightning matches the pyrotechnics in the Tokomare. What if this is just like Project Chimera, but for power generation? What if the Tokomare is draining energy by torturing the Eater of Souls? Maybe the "who" that's screaming is the soul of a bright blue alicorn stallion, and the Enervation is a curse ponykind brought upon itself...

Agreed. BJ already described feeling "twinges and tweaks" and "chains in her mind". It's not a huge leap to read that as some sort of standing orders or prohibitions that don't require ongoing monitoring.Derpmind wrote:Somber wrote:And add a little bit about why she couldn't use her broadcaster. I think its from one of BJs weird abstract visions from one of the times she'd died, maybe the first one? Can't recall the details, just that she was saw a what might have been the afterlife/the past, and there was some sort of glittery alicorn shaped soul stallion... thing, that tried to drown out all the other souls with its song or some such, and got its butt kicked by all the other souls, and it then crashed into the planet... or something.
Okay apparently my memory is somewhat unreliable, but I do remember something along those lines happening, so that might be what SilentCatro's talking about.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
The hooves holding me tightened, and off to the side I heard another note rise. It accompanied a star glowing with a fierce blue-white corona. A pony… no. An alicorn, proud and regal and glorious. He spread his wings wide and sang his note loud and gloriously across the heavens. He drove back those shadows beyond and all things that dwelled within. Such was he that his song drowned out all others as he swelled with pride. I expected the star to eventually stop and take a break, but he didn’t. Instead, he grew along with his volume.stringtheory wrote:wait, where did this bright blue alicorn stallion come from?SilentCarto wrote:Maybe the "who" that's screaming is the soul of a bright blue alicorn stallion
It grew to the point where the melody of the those luminary bodies was drowned out. Grew to where it became almost painful. I kept waiting for him to burst as the others had and let something new take his place. The mischievous ones floated about him, trying to trick him and break his onerous note, but he burned them with his scorn. Louder! Louder! It was if he were trying to fill all the universe with the single overwhelming note! He struggled with the strain, the note transforming into a scream.
Then he exploded. It was not a gentle burst of lifegiving light. No, this explosion was raw and violent as his scream echoed to the farthest corners of the universe. Then his cloud fell inward; he would not die as the other luminous ones had, would not share his life. His blue glow contracted and darkened. Something that was a star hardened and transformed from light to something dark and base. And still it screamed, tearing at the melody around it. No trick by the spirits could stop it. No song from the others could reach it. And as the song died, the darkness encroached.
That's right. More to the point, it's the entity that would become the Eater of Souls.thatguyvex wrote:stringtheory wrote:wait, where did this bright blue alicorn stallion come from?

Oh yeah, him, the Eater of Souls, yeah it was originally a star which tried to out-something all the others, so the other stars ganged up on him destroying him, yet destroying themselves in the process, so he came crashing onto Equestria way in the past and he's trying to regain his power, or something like that, I forget the details, Somber wrote that backstory in a forum post a while back, I'm sure someone will dig it up.thatguyvex wrote:stringtheory wrote:wait, where did this bright blue alicorn stallion come from?

BJ doesn't remember that dream sequence does she? Hey, giant vampire stars have feelings too. Hm, odd, the way its described, sounds kind of echoing of Boast Busters. Loudmouth show off rolls into town, makes a big scene, gets on everyone else's nerves.
Oh, and SilentCarto, you're scary good at finding those specific passages fast.

It's called having a complete text of the story and using control-F (that's command-F if you're on a mac), we're pretty sure Somber's now writing the story knowing we can find obscure plot details from the very beginning in under ten seconds flatthatguyvex wrote:Oh, and SilentCarto, you're scary good at finding those specific passages fast.

That would certainly explain it. Whenever I try to track down an obscure detail its mostly starts with me going "Bloody hell, which chapter was that scene even in... uh... was it... late 30s... early 40s...?" and then the mining begins.

That depends on exactly what you mean by "remember". Short form, her body only remembers things her body experienced, but her soul can apparently remember previous soul experiences as well. She was, after all, "able to compare deaths".thatguyvex wrote:BJ doesn't remember that dream sequence does she?
Heh, well, the star dream is one of my favorite bits, so I have its location pretty well memorized.thatguyvex wrote:Oh, and SilentCarto, you're scary good at finding those specific passages fast.
...but yes, I am scary good at that.
Actually, in all seriousness, I just pick a rare word that I'm pretty sure is used in the passage I'm looking for and run a search for it. That usually pares it down to a dozen or fewer hits, which is easy enough to brute-force through. Of course, remembering a decent keyword can be a bit of a trick sometimes, but anyway...

- Project Horizons Chapter 55 reading review!:
Test, test... okay? Mic is clear? Okay!
Welcome, fillies and colts, to yet another reading review!
Now, in the interest of getting down to business ASAP, I must inform you that I will NOT be performing the review today. Instead, that distinction will go to my good friend, Trixie!
Hi! I’ve read up on the story so far and promise to do my very best to make this as smooth a transition as-
WHATEVER, I’m out of here! Something called the prom-coming dance! Gotta catch a frog, apparently, so see ya!
...kay, well, yes. Now we begin! Yay!
Hee...servants. Ones you don’t have to pay? What I wouldn’t give.
...because I wouldn’t give. That is the point, yes?Ooooooho ho ho ho ho!but that message was punctuated by what I suspected was the desiccated body of the author impaled on rebar jutting from the wall beside the declaration.
These fallout ponies and their clever styles of punctuation, I swear!Tish, you simply have no taste in art, Blackjack.Better to be more anonymous bones amidst the rubble than some grisly fetish on a wall.Oh, you gotta be kidding me, already?Just like with Clink…
Sigh... be right back.
Take me down to the paradise city where the grass is green and the mares are pretty!
Oh, won't you please take me home?
Right, okay, the rapist from the immediately previous chapter. Okey dokey lok.... okay.I’m not even gonna look it up. You said, when you first got stuck down with the earth ponies, that you couldn’t fly right back up to Thunderhead because you’d get electrocuted. If you weren’t armed, they wouldn’t have sensed you, and would be far from likely to pick you out by sight if you were wearing your volunteer uniform."I think it used to be completely automated, but there was a friendly fire incident a decade ago and they disabled that."
So pisah on you and your malleable recollections!Like... cradling her? She’s a bit old for that, don’t ya think?"What counts as a magical energy source?" P-21 asked with a frown, holding the slumbering Scotch between his hooves.I hate you so much, Rampage. He was, as she put it, a ‘big bad freakily familiar fucker’, or BBFFF for short.Or, y’know, whatever the word is for “desire to kill yet couldn’t live without”. That thing.“Come on. There had to be some way to turn me off.”
“Does anything do that for you?” Rampage asked with a smirk
In any case, why hasn’t anyone suggested shielding her? Would that be so hard?
Roll her up in a ball of lead or something... the universal mcguffin insulator.
...that’s gotta be a trope, by the way.Ow ow ow ow ow...Glory opened her mouth to argue, and then hesitated. "It... might?" she finished tentatively.
I just rolled my eyes so hard I think I detached a cornea.
Ow ow oww!...but she was perfectly coherent. I think you meant “smarts into your brain”.Rampage frowned at me. "Did that bullet knock some extra smarts out of your brain, Blackjack?"Nah, that’s just all the lovey-dovey clouding your judgment. I, personally, still think she’s utterly mad-horse bonkers. I mean, short of a magical blast from her Twilight past, how is she gonna get a cloudwalk spell? Is there even a ground floor opening to shadowbolt tower?"Only you could say something like that with utter sincerity and still have it sound actually possible."I can’t deny I’ll always sigh and grin when I see an alicorn cry.And I can think of no way to protect you or help you! I can do nothing!” she wailed, and I imagined I could see the Goddess looking on in mirth.
...but really, she’s close to full of angst, now? And radiation could heal her mind? Not sure mental scarring works that way. I wonder if Lacunae could even be directly burnt out of telepathy... like, she just couldn’t take any more intake anymore, or her mind healed back in a configuration that wouldn’t accept telepathy, it at first only a tiny amount being incapable of receiving it (and therefore not being killed off by it), then that part growing and spreading as all the telepathic parts kept getting burned away and filled in with telepathy-immune.
I enjoy magic :)...oddly enough, when I first read this, I was about to object, thinking she was referring to P-21... but Glory is blue, too.“Oh. And if you behave, I won’t have you crush your little blue lover’s head like a grape.
Kinda odd.
In any case, who does she think she is fooling, here? She can feel the doubt, more than anything else, beginning to drown out her voice among her alicorns. She knows that’s the single most-contributing cause of this wellspring of negative chi. The question of what catastrophic effect losing control of that many minds for even a single moment could have is more poignant than ever. In a single moment, Twilight could easily take control and refuse to let Trixie drown out her sense of responsibility ever again.
...
...oooooooooooooooh.......
What if she does? What if, against all odds, the goddess found the bomb? What if she was seconds, even minutes, away from teleporting it out? What if Lacunae saw the opportunity to distract the goddess, if only for a moment, and took it? Took her own life so that the goddess couldn’t save her own?
That would be cool. I could jive with that, fer realsies....the ponies at the gate are addressing you with a bullhorn. I would have expected her to be yelling this back... but, maybe, they’re just listening VERY carefully.“Security. I’ve come to speak with King Awesome,” I replied with a small smile....ugh, how many points does Glory even have in small arms, anyway? I thought she’d dumped all her weapon-handling into energy while focusing on doctoring, repairing, what have ya.I’d loaned her the gun since her own had been scrapped.
Handling a weapon with kickback with her still very new body’s gonna be a trick.Rampage, though, rose to her hooves in one sinister, almost sexy movement.Hah, she’s got you pegged.“Does anything do that for you?” Rampage asked with a smirk.
...
...no, not that kind of pegged. Calm down, already, gezz...
“You must leave immediate” <-- immediately
I’ve got the worst of feelings about that silly lil’ Rampage wannabe. One Rampage is enough, I sez.
This exchange, this back and forth of formality and abrupt directness... a good cop, bad cop routine at best, to be honest... it’s putting mean on edge as it puts them at ease. It’s too... diffuse-y, like it was out of a bad sitcom. They do bad things in the Society and they obsess over appearances. This filly doesn’t fit. If she was so rebellious, given everything, I would have expected them to put her in place until she operated within their sphere.
Itchy feelings all up and down my mane. She feels mole-y and I don’t like it.
She could be more rude, she could be more cold, and she could be more direct than her siblings, but this degree of absolute rebellion doesn’t feel right in this atmosphere.
I mean, when you get right down to it, why is a filly like her being allowed to greet ponies at the gates?Ugh, I read that wrong...P-21 just wore a little smile that said they’d be lucky to find any weapons he’d secreted and gave a little nod.
Secreted means concealed, but it also means... urp... “discharged”...
Why am I reading this on an upset stomach?
P.S. I just realized something... Bombum.
Bomb. Bum.
Dafoooo.Rampage: Right, just show me to a grill, good Reaper BBQ never fails to amaze!“Show them what Reapers can really do.”
Blackjack: ...
Rampage: ...unless you were referring to the stabby, smashy thing.
Blackjack: That I was.
Rampage: Well excuse me, princess, if we Reapers are good for more than one thing...
P.S.
*later*
Blackjack: ...okay, I know it’s stupid, but it’s still bugging me, so... why did you call me a princess earlier?
Rampage: Oh, it was just a joke. I wasn’t going to go in with all those Society freaks but I wanted to make it, anyway.
Blackjack: Okay, but... I don’t get it.
Rampage: Don’t worry; I’m pretty sure somebody did.Why are you bothering? Why not simply yawn and say “Oh, another social revolutionary, how wondrously pedantic. Oh, please, do tell me the error of our ways, I’m certain your opinions on how we maintain a stable, secure society are bound to be far more unique than the last several thousand wastelanders I’ve been forced to entertain.“Serfs,” Splendid corrected immediately. “Not slaves.”
Because every slaver in the wasteland has to of heard this stupid little jab and shouldn’t still be letting it get enough under their skin to draw a direct, non-sarcastic response.
...or, I guess we could just go straight into a lore-dump as to how slaves become serfs. That’s good, too, after all.Hurrrum... P-21, you’re out in the open and you’re generally more diplomatic, or at least more prudent, than this (...I think, I may be remembering you wrong...). I get that this situation is reminiscent of your own previous one, but there similarly seem to be several differences in regards to the level of freedom enjoyed and the fact that they aren’t all sex slaves and put down regularly. The existence of both the elderly and the youth would seem to indicate to me, at the very least, some measure of familial existence. It’s far from a perfect life, but I’m just not certain it’s as bad as you’re making it out to be...“Please tell me you’re going to kill all these fucks.”Ha, everyone’s seen tangled, right? All I see in my head is “the smolder”.He tried his loin melting smile on me once more, baffled that it wasn’t having the effect it once did.
“glanceded”Presence of elderly = not being worked to death. If they’re living and working in those conditions, they’re being used just like I was.”
All Blackjack needs to guarantee is that every serf has a means of getting out of their contract. They should not be held to it indefinitely if they do not desire to be... though again, since they can make familial connections, over time they’d be less and less likely to want to go back into the wastes if they couldn’t take their loved ones with them at the time.
Sigh...He grimaced, fighting the liquid shame creeping down his cheeks.Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhliquid shame
“Boo let out a body shaking yawn.” <-- “Boo let out a body-shaking yawn.”
I'm pretty sure, without this punctuation, it reads that she let out a body that happened to also be shaking yawn.
...or something.By the way, does anyone know why ponies do this? I’ve never understood it, myself.Goldenblood shaking hooves with Princess Luna....would this be Spike’s mom? The one under Canterlot?A much clearer picture showed a metal stand and a large purple and green dragon blasting a black pony silhouette with green flames. “Traitor executed for crimes against Equestria.”
And who could the victim be? It seems difficult to think it’d be Goldenblood, as he was supposed to be executed the same day the bombs fell, so there’s roughly zero chance in heck that a paper could be printed and released with a photo depicting his death... because said paper would have to come out the day following the end of Equestria....I think depressants, or maybe antidepressants, can prevent dreams. Or, at least, really shorten the time you spend dreaming.I’ve been trying to keep Luna out of my dreams.”
But, of course, living with a lot of stress causes you to dream more as your body attempts to forcibly de-stress you after you failed to do so during the daylight hours like a normal pony.
...so, sucks to be you, Goldenblood. *shrug*Dearest Trottenheimer, he who would kill himself, and only himself, with one of the most powerful megaspells ever created... all as he watched the world burn, knowing what he had done to bring it there.“That’s not funny. I wish you wouldn’t joke like that,” Trottenheimer muttered.
He who would know what so many others had done, the overtly vicious and cruel he decided to abide, yet not know, or simply understand, the quality of the very ponies he decided to associate with until far too late.
He who reminds me so much of Echo he could be his father.
How do you not know Goldenblood by now? What do you know of him, whatsoever?
My dear pony, you’ve let his dedication blind you to his zealotry. His cruelty by his remorse.
Goldenblood could have never died soon enough.
Goldie, stop hitting stuff with your starmetal rod, it’s annoying. No, you seem that’s wrong. I can’t state this enough... wrong.I looked over at the front page of the Canterlot Times and the silhouette of Goldenblood being consumed by green flame.
Unless it’s a special edition that came out mid-day, wrong.
The paper would come out the day after the event happened, and the bombs dropped the day he was killed, so it can’t be him.
...or could it?
Damn.
She takes me away to that special place and if I'd stare too long I'd probably break down and cry...
Oh, oh, oh, sweet filly o' mine
Okay, let’s see, now...Okay, so, Goldenblood was potentially arrested, taken to hightower, disappeared from it, sentenced to execution... uh... wait, let me try this again.“He was sentenced to execution... after being mentally rendered by MoM’s finest interrogators, of course. That was when he finally cracked. He screamed and railed about conspiracies and deception as he was dragged away. I wasn’t there, but I heard that he was ranting about Horse and the Ministry Mares and ancient zebra plots and Nightmare Moon. Completely spit his bit. I would have given a hoof to see it myself,” Sanguine chuckled, grinning at the memory before he sighed and added, “Unfortunately, the very next day, the bombs fell and the pink cloud consumed Canterlot.”
He was arrested, okay. Luna wanted him executed. He was interrogated by MoM first, according to Sanguine.
I can’t seem to find anything stating he was sent to Hightower, then disappeared from it, but I remember that in my head... that some high-level political prisoner was arrested for treason the day before the bombs and taken there, so I don’t know where it’s gone to.
But I guess he could have been arrested, interrogated and executed all lickety-split and the paper would be out the next day, aka the day the bombs fell? I don’t think this clipping is of Goldenblood, though, one way or the other.Yeah, not exactly how I’d put it. It was more that he swam through an ocean of blood so that others wouldn’t have to so much as touch it.“I think he bloodied his hooves so that other ponies didn’t have to.”
There wasn’t really an equivalency, here. Stuff like his killing that one mare who snooped on his chat with Rarity. He could have had her suppressed, tried to pay her off and come back later, a lot of things. He killed her because it was expedient and assured. He covered himself in blood just to avoid involving anyone else, at times... and spilled far more blood than could ever be deemed necessary because of it.
All the while attracting the sorts of ponies that would approve of his actions... and we know how that turned out.Huh, and here I thought he was going to say “Fancy Pants”, what with the airship Fleur being in his keeping...Other parts, like him claiming to be the great grandson of Shining Armor, Twilight Sparkle’s brother and the entitled heir to the Crystal Empire, seemed too farfetched even for the Wasteland.
Edit from the future:
...but Fancy Pants died in the Resolute incident, as would any of his heirs, so that would be that.Meh, you know, the longer we continue, the less I can imagine what, if anything, Luna was actually doing at all. I can only guess she did all the normal things Celestia did while the ministries and OIA handled the war, because I don’t see what part she had to play in it.Had Luna maintained plausible deniability, letting Goldenblood blackmail and leverage others into silence? Had she been fooled? Complicit? I didn’t know which scared me more.
Edit from the future:
...unless she was in it, right next to Goldenblood, pretty much the entire time.Okay, so, I was gonna have a little outtake here, but I couldn’t figure out how to make it funny, so I’ll just say it straight-out:I would be sure to have P-21 and Scotch Tape check it as well before we went anywhere.
What do P-21 and Scotch Tape know about aerodynamics? Together they understand a fair amount about repair and basic electrical work, but Glory’s the pegasus with the college degree, which probably included at least one class in physics, more than trumping the exhaustive experience of a filly with a year or two in maintenance and a buck lacking any formal education whatsoever. I think she should probably take the lead in this assessment, at least as far as making sure they will be able to fly as far and as long as they need to.<3Finally, I trotted to his side, made sure he was actually asleep, and then gave a polite kiss to his cheek.“Glory, why are you turning their kitchen into an abattoir?” I asked as I looked at the bloody meat in one heap, the pile of bloody cybernetic components in the second pile, and the spread of cleaned cyberpony parts.Oh, Glory, you have beautiful eyes...A little disgusting,” she added as she looked at the bloody specks on Glory’s mane
Also: would Blackjack know what an abattoir was? Probably a silly thing to get caught on, but cooking and all its aspects would be an entirely lost skill in the stable.
There were no raw foods, there were no implements, there was nothing but a machine that stamped out food chips, and I don’t even recall if it made more than one type. Those that entered the stable with cooking-related special talents would have to come to terms with the inability to “cook” in any contemporary way, anymore.
This isn’t to say they wouldn’t then turn to the stockpile of medical supplies, industrial cleaners, solvents, adhesives and any mold they could find growing anywhere and engage in a new level of creative cooking.
My point is, though, I dunno if Blackjack would know even the vaguest thing about food preparation like the concept of a slaughterhouse.Hmm, yes, the joke could have stood to be a little more derivative, if you ask me. Something like, “Uh, I had a slight brain malfunction, but uh… everything’s perfectly all right now. I’m fine. I’m all fine here now, thank you. How are you?”“N… no.” I stammered own, feeling a will besides my own carefully manipulating my mouth to go on, “She’s fine. I’m fine. Nothing wrong at all, Rampage. Brain damage!” My lips pulled back in a rictus grin as Rampage stared at me in concern and bafflement. “Just wanting some booze and to get laid! And to shoot some shit because that’s what I do!” I was grinning like an idiot, and Rampage just gaped at me. I felt the Goddess’s strings quiver in frustration. “How are you?”
...’cause I see what you did there ;)A mountainous mound of multifarious mechanical morsels? A massive mishmash of mismatched metallic miscellanies? Marvelous!Mounds of multifarious parts were piled high up the walls of the room I found myself in, and a mountainous heap of haphazardly connected electrical components sat in the middle. A dozen massive screens mounted on the central technological mishmash glowed with static.Hmm, would you look at that? Well, now we have our means to cognitum.“you will be able to remotely access and control any properly modified robot connected to its system.”
...and, hell, our “Blackjack-ready solution”. A big button to press to make the bad stuff go away, perfect!
“The the button”Oh, I think you suspect Horse of more than that... after all; your greatest treasure is secrets, why would you EVER risk anything that could compromise that?“No thank you,” Goldenblood rasped, his eyes cool and contemptuous. “Your machine looks a little unstable. I don’t recall Apple Bloom’s Crusader buzzing like that.”Ruh row... Whatever survived the aftermath of this now has a copy (however imperfect and incomplete) of Luna’s brain.“Are you okay?” Eclipse asked as she knelt beside him. He glanced up in time to see the glittering mesh descend down and land firmly atop her inky head.
Given the fact that they’re aware (if I’m interpreting the look of horror at being deleted correctly) that’s... well, that’s really bad.
The desires to be a goddess, the broken half-personality, etc... yeah, fractured Luna is probably cognitum.
The Blackjack?
What, is the Goddess Starfire?
“Yes, let us commence with the running and the shooting and other forms of violent behavior! Glorious!”...one of the flower trio (and yeah, I know we’ve known about this place’s name for a while, but I’m reacting to it now)? Did EVERYONE in Ponyville end up making it big? Are we going to see “Daisy’s Arboretums Unlimited”? “Sofas and quills corp.”? “Lyres, lyres and, yes, more lyres”?‘Roseluck Agrifarms’
I wonder if Stabletech set up some kind of program to make every small business in Ponyville a massive success...
...the Goddess can control Blackjack in the middle of this much enervation? I’m not sure if that means anything, but... I don’t know, it FEELS like that means something. Additionally, there’s got to be places the Goddess has wanted to go but couldn’t because of too much enervation, and Blackjack’s all but immune to it, so... huh.
And this cool, soft note... it makes me think she has something physically in her projecting an anti-enervation field...
...oh, and I just read a little further, yeah, maybe the Goddess IS imprinting herself for short periods of time...
...would that allow her to control BJ’s actions right now? Could Blackjack write or make an audio log? Maybe a memory sphere of the goddess’s actions and throw it back out at the others? Somethin’... there’s got to be a way to take advantage of this situation.
...though the Goddess could clearly tell that BJ was going to be going into this enervation field and NOT be in her direct control, so I dunno. What effect does enervation have on specialized healing potions like rad-away? I’ve never seen. I don’t even recall the last time she came across the stuff, though, anyway...Inside were some gold bits in a box marked ‘petty cash’ and a few healing potion bottles filled with black tar.
I mean, sure, BJ has rad resistance, but can she lower her rads over time? I always figured whatever rads Rampage accumulates were lost mainly via the loss of parts of, and occasionally her entire, body. You had me at “viscous fluid” <3The floor was ankle deep in viscous fluid as I walked along tables stacked with long-still fabrication machinery. I could taste metal in the air. Coppery.
But this makes the... second time Blackjack has strode through liquid pony? The grinder basin was pretty darn full, as well as warm since it hadn’t had time to rot.
Odd that it’s taking her any time whatsoever to pick up on this... but, then again, we aren’t technically privy to all of her thoughts.
Yo, where is Sanguine? Wasn’t he working here? Would he just not show up in these reports whatsoever? Because, if Blackjack saw any evidence of him, I think she’d mention it...Okay, so... how is starmetal forged, again? Also, what is it about rings, specifically, that causes this reaction? Is spellcraft involved, too? Each one a tiny, self-contained, indestructible siphon pulling souls through them to their ultimate destination.
Ugh, Dawn, really? Laughter? Okay, maybe your brain’s so scattered it is misfiring emotions and thoughts and it’s all being processed as humorous, but we’ve got enough laugh-y villains. Deus did, Sanguine did, Horse does, Psychoshy did, Steel Rain did, Lighthooves does, that ghoul that owned that griffin ghoul did... just laugh and laugh and gloat and laugh.
I wanna see some sins other than pride take forefront. I like Lancer, he’s pretty dutiful and I don’t recall him laughing much. In fact, he now thrives on fear... I really hope he’s still missing an eye.
Goldenblood and Psalm similarly don’t laugh, though they’re “conflicted”, of course.
Maybe I wish Dawn resonated with more hate, here. A cold bile that makes it sound like she’s sick of so much as being in Blackjack’s presence after everything that’s happened. Maybe a sadness or a more penitent resonation in her than we’d even seen before, not for the bad things she’s going to do, but for not doing more bad things sooner to Blackjack. Even a sort of obsession with her goal, having been granted focus, turning her more into an animal than a mare, desperate for the preciou... EC-1101.
Oh well, woulda coulda. Crazy evil begets evil laugher, I suppose.
...or nevermind, she’s just every kind of mental right now, which happens to include evil laughter.and realized I stood in a field of gore. You are unbelievable, Blackjack. And saw myself...
I was a mix of machine and meat. She was a synthesis of synthetics and steel. Both of us wanted the Wasteland saved. Both of us had ponies we’d loved. We’d suffered. We’d fought. We’d killed. Two sides of the same coin.

STOP
Philosophize!
I just imagine them running from something that’s going to go off in a massive explosion or, you know, “Tuesdays and Thursdays”.
Glory: Blackjack, hurry up, if we don’t move, we won’t be getting out of here alive!
Blackjack: Yes, but what IS life?
Rampage: *suddenly with a corncob pipe in her mouth* Yes, and WHY is life?
Blackjack: *now with a monocle* Indeed.
Glory: ...what? I don’t... even...
P-21: Look, Glory, there’s a time and place to question why they do things, and that is “never”, now can we get a move on?I like Grace. I’m putting her on a pedestal... and I do hope nobody pushes her off.Grace turned even redder before she looked me boldly in the eye. “If that’s the case, he’ll be stripped of his authority.
*whistles innocently*I love that this is Rampage’s response to just about anytime ponies argue.Rampage let out a scornful, “Oh will you two just shut up and fuck already? I’m sure Blackjack would love that too!”
*before a mission*
Scotch: But you’re going to need me!
P-21: No, it’s too dangerous!
Rampage: Will you two just fuck, already?!
Psychoshy: Yeah!
Blackjack: ...where did she come from?!
---
Blackjack: Come on, five hundred bits? That much for a bottle of water?
Charity: No, “that much” is for all the buildings we’re still reconstructing since your last visit!
Rampage: You two! Fuck! Now!
Charity: And that’s a hundred thousand, up front.
Blackjack: ...um, no, thank you...
---
Triage: Look, if you keep installing all these weird modifications every time she comes in for repair, she’s going to stop trusting us enough to do the work in the first place!
Rover: Hah, dog would like to see stupid pony try get fixed anywhere else; doctor pony is full of crap!
Rampage: Fucking! Both of you! Get it on!
Triage: Yeah!
Rover: What? No! Dog is married!
Triage: Oh, uh... I mean... so, does that mean it, uh, isn’t an open marriage..?
Rover: *glare* Dog is not interested in ponies, anyway.
Triage: Oh, uh, eheh... oops.
Rampage: Oh, come on!
---
Rampage: Ugh... horniness... rising... Lacunae! Get your severely-spank-able blank flank over here!
Lacunae: Okay, Rampage...
Rampage: Um... uh... something you like is not as good as you think it is! It is, in fact, a bad thing! Rarr!
Lacunae: *cries*
Rampage: Uh... that really worked out a lot better in my head.
P.S.
Rampage: I don’t get it; do ponies who argue NOT want to fuck? I was so sure, but now I-
Glory: Blackjack, when you’re in a weird, enervation-filled building and come across a strange, dark room full of “viscous liquid that smells like copper”, DON’T GO IN IT.
Blackjack: How was I to know? It could have been paint! Anything is possible!
Rampage: *gasp* FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK AAAAAAAAALLLLLLRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAADDDDDYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
Glory: ...k.
Blackjack: Yeah, I could go for that, let’s go. *trots off to star house with her*
Rampage: o_o! SUCCESS!!
P.P.S.
Dear Big Daddy,
Today I learned that when two ponies argue, sometimes they do not want to fuck, but sometimes they do, and that’s what friendship is all about!
Your faithful Reaper,
Rampage
Big Daddy: *blink blink* ...that is one weird mare.
Society message-runner pony: You’re telling me.
...I think my personal interpretation of Rampage goes a little further from “fun-loving psychopath” into “batshit insane” with every passing chapter XDHmm, I wonder why isn’t Charm cheering? Maybe, when she kept urging them to kill her siblings in her joking manner, she wanted it done so that she could lead? Because, if she was really as innocently mischievous as she let one, knowing that she was unlikely to become queen before the other two otherwise, I can’t see her particularly objecting to this status quo so long as it didn’t kick her out into the wasteland.“Long live the Queen,” shouted the crowd, minus the contributions of Splendid, Grace, and Charm. “Long live the Queen!” My friends stared in amazement.
I don’t trust her, I don’t trust her, I don’t trust her :)
AND DONE
Kay, so, a very good chapter, might go back and improve some of the funny now, I feel in the mood for it.
All around pretty calm, too. I really, really can’t wait to see how this grand galloping gala is going to turn out.
So, until next time, this is your friendly neighborhood Trixie signing out!
- Spoiler:
…Swicked wrote:Oh, Glory, you have beautiful eyes...
Hahahaha! I hadn't noticed that before! :)
Hm, wouldn't the heat released in decomposition keep it warm for a bit even after it started to rot? Not important to the story or review or anything; I'm just curious.Swicked wrote:The grinder basin was pretty darn full, as well as warm since it hadn’t had time to rot.
Odd that it’s taking her any time whatsoever to pick up on this... but, then again, we aren’t technically privy to all of her thoughts.
And yeah, I figured it out as soon as I saw that "Place where Enervation talismans are manufactured en mass" and "Place where everpony in the building took shelter when the alarms went off" shared a sign.
