She's already in the comics, and continues to be pushed in the marketing department. Anyway, I still think that quote's fake. If Hasbro wanted a permanent gag put on Derpy, they wouldn't be releasing toys of her with under that name. And her presence in S3 wasn't "phased out" so much as "completely non-existent." There's nothing in it that we've seen that couldn't have been guessed from material available to anyone. It's basically just a cold read.

Eh... that last one does seem like a cold read to me rather than a solid source. But it has smelled more and more like executive meddling to me this season. Not saying bluh bluh MLP sucks now or anything stupid like that, and there have certainly been magnificent episodes, but the whole Crystal Empire seems to be mostly jammed in to sell toys. And Cadence growing wings between writing and animation was bad enough, but with Twilight becoming a princess next episode it feels like the whole mythology is no longer something that can be pulled together solidly, sacrificed for more toy sales.

I feel like the first two seasons were a bunch of great slice-of-life stories with occasional high adventure in a well-built and interesting background world for those who paid attention, but from this season forward they're cutting the background depth and other things that aren't typical interests of the target audience, and doing more and more things without care for continuity or grand themes. We'll still have great slice-of-life stories, probably, most of the time, but any show where I have to turn part of my brain off or be distracted with little inconsistencies the whole time is less enjoyable to me. Maybe there was never a very cohesive core and I just didn't notice when there wasn't enough stuff to contradict itself? Maybe I'm just feeling kinda melancholy about the show because the previous episode didn't seem as awesome as most, and the next promises to be more troublesome than any we've seen so far?


Anyway, as for the teen-focused one I don't hold very high of hopes. That image earlier looked shopped, but I wouldn't put it past them to humanize it just because they think teens think that quadrupeds are for little kids. And while FiM proved that a show aimed at little girls can be awesome for everyone, that was with Faust at the helm, and american teen girl programming tends to be even worse than the kids' stuff. I'll watch at least the first few episodes if and when I have time and opportunity, and make an effort to keep an open mind, but I'm not optimistic enough to be crushed when it (inevitably) collapses.

Yeah, applebucking is fairly core to the show at this point. Made the episode a bit odd, but it was a good change.
