To me, bronies don't represent anything other than a self-identification as such. What annoys me is when people start preaching about what being a brony is about, 'friendship and kindness and acceptance' clearly isn't exhibited by everyone who claims to be a brony.
I'm not particularly a fan of the show anymore, it seems boring now and nothing important ever happens. But I'm still fond of the creativity exhibited by the fans of the show.
Sorry, micro rant.
I'll probably never watch the documentary, but if I have the chance and nothing else to do, I'll watch a stream of it.

That documentary can only be embarrassing, however it was made by a professional so who knows.
The previous one floating around was God awful and I couldn't make it past 5 minutes without cringing at some socially inept fat guy talking about how a kid's show taught him how to function in life.

By this point, I just follow the fandom for the fiction, which is probably the best put out by any fandom around. The show proper, at this point, has managed to make me hate nearly every single character and realize that 99% of what happens could be avoided if not for the fact that everyone is an idiot being trusted with immense magical power and no restrictions at all on using it (Twilight, who displays a massive lack of actual intelligence [she's simply good at retaining and reciting information] has massive psychological issues and a short temper and is capable of lifting an entire house 50 feet in the air. That's a winning combination)
and now, whenever I sit down to watch it, bile rises in my throat, my blood pressure spikes, my muscles tense, my eyes pop out of my skull and burning shit-vomit spews out my asshole
Yeah, it rustles my fuckin' jimmies.

I still watch it because it's cute to me, mostly because I can turn off to it and just enjoy the calming nature of the show.
I totally understand the complaints, it does run through my head how Twilight for example can't do anything unless it fits her very strict way of understanding things:
Is there a direct answer in a book? No? Is there some very similar way in a book? No? What about making a report, which is basically a book of my own? No? Panic!
What about my time keeping, can I make a schedule? No? Panic!
Twilight has no creativity, she's a computer and nothing more.
She might be able to see where things have gone wrong, but she'll never be able to fix them without some logical indicative answer given to her to process and execute.
Still, that doesn't make me hate her, I just ignore it and watch anyway.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
The show's a good change of pace from the darker things I consume for entertainment value. The characters aren't the best, but I'm fairly easy to please when it comes to merits such as those. When compared to its contemporaries, its characters have a bit more dimension, and they just stuck to me, even if they are utter fools sometimes.
I occasionally watch an episode over again and get a smile out of it. Good use of twenty-two minutes, helps me write sometimes. I still watch the new ones, liked most of them. I don't think I'll be leaving the creative portion of the fandom for a good while yet; I like to write, and since ponies have inspired me to write, this'll be my platform for that for awhile.
On the subject of Twilight, I notice that she suffers from Third Act Stupidity often in the show, so I don't portray her as such. I just throw her into problems she can't solve with her magic, like international diplomacy, biochemical and linguistic barriers, and a whole bunch of aliens, give her some ability to think on her own. I never asked: Frost, why do you like my story?
The show might not hold as much appeal to me anymore, it has its merits and a really nice world behind it, one that I enjoy expanding upon to an extent. Fanfiction is most of my pony vector now, even if I actually don't read much of it. Also, they're just so damned cute. :3
As for the documentary? I managed to get it on YouTube (unlisted, accessible by link only, they've taken it down by now) and even though they changed the title, it's mostly just about BroNYCon, but it touches on just about everything, and covers some of B.U.C.K. and other conventions, as well as takes interviews with various people (Like Sethisto, but he had nothing clever to say whatsoever. "We're creative people! There's tons of art, music and fanfiction." Yeh, we know that already. The Living Tombstone had more real stuff to say.) and covers its topic well. I liked it, and don't think it embarrassing at all, really.

I like Eclipse because I'm a huge Sci-Fi fan, and it's actually a bit of a rare thing for a fanfiction featuring ponies and Future!Earth to not portray Earth like it is in "Avatar", which is unfortunate because, other than Colonel Quaritch and the AMP suits, I fucking hated Avatar

This is on purpose, to make children go "oh no, you shouldn't do that that way," to reinforce their deduction and to introduce them to conflict resolution. Show for kids, ya know.

Not that I recall, but if they aren't useless then the EoH wouldn't seem as useful. Why have them try to do something when they can be helpless to every single threat in Equestria instead?Mister Frost wrote:I've not yet, but I probably will catch it on Netflix when it gets out

Because if they were useful, the survival of a nation would not be utterly dependent on six unstable little girls who were easily bested (however temporarily, they still only lived do to their captors' mercy)
1.) a gaggle of half-retarded, inbred dog-gorillas
2.) a vengeful stage magician
3.) a swarm of insects.
Really, the whole Changeling invasion was the worst yet. The guards have Pegasi (who can create air currents) and Uncorns (who can make fire). Bugs don't like fire, and they really wouldn't like a Giant fire-tornado. But nope, Guards were useless.

To be fair with that one, it may have been difficult to fight back against a force that appeared out of fuckin' nowhere. However, them hammering the shield should have done SOMETHING to warn them.Mister Frost wrote:Because if they were useful, the survival of a nation would not be utterly dependent on six unstable little girls who were easily bested (however temporarily, they still only lived do to their captors' mercy)

Which is why I keep headcanon that the majority of their force was either in hiding in those caves under canterlot before the attack, or they were already infesting the population of Canterlot. That way the guard's inability to fight back before being captured made sense.
Or half of the guards were replaced by changelings at some point, that's my personal opinion on it.

Shining Armor was the captain of the guard, and was indirectly being manipulated by Queen Chrysalis, so that could make sense.CamoBadger wrote:

Okay from a protective stand point would a giant flaming tornado blazing through a civilian population center under attack by an invading army be the best decision?
Frost If you're angry, i mean what you just described earlier to your reaction to the show seems like a lot of anger, maybe its being displaced from somewhere and being directed towards the show. For that matter, wouldn't it be a waste of your energy to be angry and upset at a show directed towards children like that? I despised chowder, but I did laugh at a few of the jokes for sure.

Of course, the EoH have a much, much better track record than literally any other defense institution ever, so clearly there's something going right. Probably a karmic force of some sort.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Dwarf Fortress has kept me well-occupied recently. My first fort that has managed steel-equipped military has held off the Fun in the form of goblins numerous times, thanks to an understanding of the burrow system, layers upon layers of weapon, stone-fall, and cage traps, and a moat. The titans cannot survive the torrents of goblinite arrows my marksdwarves put into them or my mob of swords- and hammerdwarves, and my engraver keeps engraving engravings of himself engraving engravings on the wall. Almost three hundred goblins lay dead or trapped on my fortress' grounds, as well as two titans and several dozen trolls.
When I tried to dump the prisoners into my pit, many of them escaped captivity and there was quite the battle. Only a few dwarves were lost, and now my bar/block stockpile is full of goblin and troll skeletons.
Losing may be fun, but what you do before losing is also fun.
