Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Here's my 2 cents on why.
1) They've got human personalities, so naturally we are more connected to them and are actually capable of forming bonds with those personalities. This makes us more likely to be attracted to them, not necissarily physically at first, but we see them as someone it is okay to get close with because of their human attitudes and actions.
2) Their bodies have been 'humanized'. Eyes moved to the front of the head somewhat; larger, flatter foreheads and faces; humanoid eyes; etc. So what will initially start as an attraction to their personalities and behaviors could soon start to shift to seeing their bodies as attractive for many people. On top of that, they have semi-human movements; they hold things with their hooves, human expressions and gestures, even the fact that they talk with the same movements of their lips helps. In essence, they are human, except they have colorful bodies and walk on four hooves. Not a stretch for some people to see them as attractive, and I'll admit I'm one of them.

I've really got to start reading this thread more often. You guys talk about the most interesting things.
On the topic of furries vs bronies, I just don't get the hating that goes on. I mean, admittedly, I'm very much live and let live, but it seems to me that one group likes technicolor equines, one group likes two legged dog people, and both groups are seen as really weird by the majority of mainstream culture. So why not be friends, and give the rest of the world the finger?
Although I will say that bronies seem to have fewer douche bags per capita than most other fandoms. But I'm biased.
As far as -liking- ponies goes, meh. I stopped being surprised at the weird shit I like a long time ago. I will say that I trend towards anthro pony art like atryl or doxy, though.

As far as the whole not getting along thing goes, I believe it has a lot to do with bronies being such a new and sudden thing. Furries have been around for a long long while. They don't want to change, they don't want to accept us being part of their culture just as much as we don't want to respect them. (Speaking in generalities here. Not representative of everybody) The furries used to being shunned don't want to take on bronies as part of their "group" because it would cause them to be shunned more. Bronies don't want to take on being a part of furry culture for the same reason. It seems to me that it is just animosity on both sides because we don't want each others baggage. Which is pointless anyway since most haters group bronies with furries anyway.
Also, put me in the "likes ponies" group. I don't even really like pony anthro, just straight up pony. Not the weirdest thing about me that is for sure. I liked fur stuff way before ponies anywho.

It is also my perception that the ability to be physically attracted to ponies is derived from their numerous anthropomorphic properties, which have already been pointed out. I, however, do not find such things attractive in a sexual manner, but I understand why people can and do.
I can certainly find them absolutely adorable, but that's a given, is it not?

yeah, I usually can't stand anthro, though it does depend on the level of it and the art style of the artistiLateralGX wrote:Also, put me in the "likes ponies" group. humanizations, I'm usually okay with, though r34 (all three categories) stuff falls under the 'shows which I know' level of weirdness/awkwardness when I see it on other sites...

I don't see it happening anytime soon. Bronies have become a lot more... mainstream since it's humble beginnings of love and tolerance. Bronies now likely include a lot of people who honestly probably care less about the original message of the show and just want to be associated with the group because it's now "that one thing" on the internet. At least that is what I gather from comments on places like Youtube and snapshots from Facebook. While this is all fine and dandy it really does change the makeup of bronies as a whole and makes it a lot hard to get a group consensus and such a matter as this one.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Personally, I think that bronies have completely forgotten what 'Love and Tolerate' means. If I recall, it started as an argument about how to deal with trolls; basically a ponified "Don't Feed the Trolls".
Somehow, that got turned into "love everyone and everything for what they are" even though the number of people I've met in my life that are capable of such a thing can be counted on one hand. I know that on another site I used to go to and don't consider myself a member anymore, if you didn't follow that then they ostracized you and didn't consider you a 'true brony'.
Since then, it seems to have turned into an excuse for bronies to troll, and then justify their actions with 'love and tolerance'.
So yeah, empty words.

To be completely honest, it's not like the show has ever done a great job of portraying the ponies actually doing a lot of loving and tolerating. We see that bullying is rampant and rarely dealt with, many ponies have severe paychological issues, ect
How's this for tolerance: in Bridle Gossip, the mane six find themselves infected with a local plant, and immediately blame Zecora. Irrational blame and attempted "justice" against a local African immigrant is what we call a fucking lynch mob. Sure, they learned their lesson, but it wasn't until recently that the general populace realized that foreigners aren't all demons and witches. Hooray tolerance.

right, the show doesn't/never preached or even brought up 'loving and tolerating', that was just a anti-troll reaction by early bronies, here have a full length article about it: [link] (I love this fandom, just because of the speed we've grown)Mister Frost wrote:To be completely honest, it's not like the show has ever done a great job of portraying the ponies actually doing a lot of loving and tolerating. Another wonderful lesson that we've learned: unless you're a Magical McGuffin Girl or a Super Special Pony Princes, never, ever try to fight back, Whether it's bullies you could fight with words and/or fire, chaos gods you could fight with salt-circles and/or fire, ancient night-queens you could fight with flashlights and/or fire (or maybe a "Thanks for the nighttime, it's pretty fucking cool" every once in a while), insectoid monsters you could fight with bug spray and/or fire (or, since they feed on love, just hate them really fucking hard). You just sit back and cower in fear. Not like you're a goddamn horse that can break bones with a single kick or anything.

well considering all the major threats (excluding Trixie, but the amulet kinda counts) are ancient evils from thousands of years ago (not sure what the changelings count as), the expected reaction would be to just use *insert superweapon here* on them and hope that works out, because that's what worked last time, plus I at least subscribe to the fanon that the rest of the world is regular (or even crapsack) in nature and Celestia keeps Equestria as some kind of utopia, which helps to explain some of the incompetence of both the Royal guard and random citizens, they're not used to itMister Frost wrote:Another wonderful lesson that we've learned: unless you're a Magical McGuffin Girl or a Super Special Pony Princes, never, ever try to fight back, Whether it's bullies you could fight with words and/or fire, chaos gods you could fight with salt-circles and/or fire, ancient night-queens you could fight with flashlights and/or fire (or maybe a "Thanks for the nighttime, it's pretty fucking cool" every once in a while), insectoid monsters you could fight with bug spray and/or fire (or, since they feed on love, just hate them really fucking hard). also I'm dropping theMST3K Mantra hammer on your argument because it's a character focused show for little girls, what do you expect? the problem to NOT be solved by the main characters and/or the mystical force of the week?

So early this morning, in a sleep-deprived state of philosophy, I came up with a theory that I admittedly haven't spent much time on. Have you noticed how some men look more like apes than they should? What if that's old genes making themselves known. I've read that Neanderthals possibly interbred with Humans. The men in my family somewhat match the written description of Neanderthals. Stooped forward, knees bent a little, large head. This is just me dicking around with science.

@cloppers: clopping is something I can never see myself accepting, much less doing. I mean I'll tolerate cloppers as hard as the next guy, but love? No, I don't think so, not anytime soon at least. I mean you do you and all, but don't expect me to want to hear about it, or like it, or respect it, or anything. Sorry that's just my feels on the situation.
@music: call me an iconoclast, but I don't like listening to music while I'm reading either. It distracts me too much. I love the songs you guys are posting, I just don't really know where they would go good in the story.
@helplessponycivilians: I'm sure they do have problems not solved by the mane six, lots of them and serious ones to. But do you want to watch a MLP: FiM episode about how the the townsfolk of pony like came together and voted to increase taxes to fix the education sust? Or how random guard #3 stopped those kids from vandalizing the park? No one wants to hear about the boring shit ponies deal with everyday, because that's boring. But like somebody said, when a freaking dragon, or a god of the night, or the god of chaos attacks, regular ponies, like regular people, are gonna flip shit. Those exciting things are we want to see, so that's what they show us. About the changelings, I'm fairly certain I remember at least the guards fighting back, but when your enemy can transfo into your best friend, it's kind of hard to fight it.

I can tolerate nearly anything, what comes to mind of what I can't and won't tolerate are infringements on necessary privacy and the violation of some social boundaries. I know one guy who responded to the quote "To each their own" with "Yes, and I will mercilessly make fun of you for yours." That type of shit I don't tolerate.

Balls, can't find my copy of that human evolution book... Anyway, IIRC that's probably not what's going on - genetically speaking, we share a tontonton of traits with neanderthals, and there's no reason to classify a certain type of facial structure as "neanderthal DNA" rather than just DNA with certain traits in, if that makes sense - traits you might share with the proto-humans, like teeth, but that aren't unique to them or anything. Also IIRC the modern theory on cavemen and the like is that they looked a lot more like modern day humans than popular depictions. I'd need to ask my anthropologist friends for more info on that, though; on all of this, really, 'cos I've not taken a class on this stuff in a while. I think we've got proper geneticists (or at least enthusiasts) around the forums, though, so a more coherent answer may be on the way.Ironmonger wrote:So early this morning, in a sleep-deprived state of philosophy, I came up with a theory that I admittedly haven't spent much time on. @People Appreciating Ponies
Doesn't hurt anyone, and I've seen weirder. WAY weirder.
@Frost
I'm sure the guards do things all the time, but they do so off screen. Also, we are forgetting perhaps the most important parts of the changeling invasion: guards being told by changelings looking exactly like their superiors to stand down, hostages, and the brain-zap that changelings appear to be able to perform.

I'm a tad disappointed because I thought I was onto something, but I fully expected flaws due to the facts that I haven't read much on the subject and I had been awake for a very long time. It's out of my area anyway so meh.

Reasoning behind that might be because every human alive has a percentage of Neanderthal DNA in them, because it's been proven through studies that our 'true' ancestors did breed with them quite often.

I accept it because there is honestly a whole lot worse things people could be doing. Somebody getting their rocks off to ponies while... weird, is definitely not harming anybody. At least not directly.
