I was thinking more along the lines of, "Well, it's something to do." I am an easily-bored person, and now I can sink time into thinking up scenes (but, sadly, I can never put them together because I lack the ability to add 'connective tissue' to a story in my mind. This is the reason why it takes me so long to write a chapter longer than 1500 words. Hell, chapter four of my newest story has been 1200-1500 words long for the last week. I know where I want to go, but can't get there. It's frustrating.) for my story in my head. Unfortunately, the best place (second best being in the shower) for thinking is in bed, when, y'know, I should be sleeping. Also math class. Math class is a major thinking time. Geez introductory trig, why are you so easy? I initially thought of writing a fanfic during lunch hour at school, last year in March. I was so laughably naive.

My parents have never asked about the pony, except for one morning, I had FimFic open when my dad came into the room.

"What's that?" I look back at the screen. It was the top of the page, when it had the Luna and Fluttershy banner, awhile ago. He could see it from where he was standing. I closed it.

"Nothin', just a site. What'cha need?"

Never mentioned it again.

yeah, that's basically how it went with my parents as well, they most likely consider my bronyism as just a passing interest that I'll eventually get over, my parents are very liberal, I could probably tell them I was gay and wanted a sex change (just examples, not actually true), and they would barely bat an eye (huge over exaggeration, but still)

@Frost My parents are the same way. Good people with the wrong ideals. I don't curse as much in real life as I do on here because my folks don't like it.

My parent's are non-judgmental about anything I do. I get away with a lot of stuff because I go out of my way to help people sometimes and I instinctively follow orders from authority figures. Kinda grew up in a vaguely militaristic setting.

When they learned about me doing the
fanfiction, they were all for it and occasionally ask how I've been
doing, if I have any plans to publish and if I have plans to go do it

I've watched sonic rainboom twice, best night ever (at the gala) once and winter wrap up once.

Thing is, I haven't done any since June or July - whenever I last made that shrooooooooms thread and don't plan to do any until March now.
It's not something I feel I have to do all the time, it's a special little gift to myself to unwind for a night.

The most I'll do it is about four times a year - once every time I have a holiday from work, really.
Even then, I don't have to have them, I've gone for a week off without them with no issue.
It's just something I may do from time to time as an enjoyment thing.

I have a rock monster, whom I did nickname <strike>Rock</strike>IronMonger holding weapons because he has a ton of hp. Hinds still rocks the engine, Somber at the helm. And I made swicked start multitasking, from fixing, to shielding, to fighting.
I also have an unnamed repairalien, a fighting mantis, a slug that I use to detect enemies on my ship, and some green energy being on shields as well.

I got something to run past you guys. For my story one of the primary factions is the Trottoman Turks and one of my fears is the name sounding out of place. The original word "ottoman" actually comes from the name "Osman" (the guy who founded the Ottoman Empire) so that's valid, and Turk essentially means "strong/powerful". Any of you think I should change the name? I'm worried it sounds a bit awkward despite being valid for pony use. Probably me being a worry-wart.

how do you all feel about crossovers (not fusion crossovers like FoE, but "transplanted character" crossovers, wherein a character or characters of one franchise end up in anohter)?

I know there's some really good ones, just hard to come by them.

Off the top of my head:

-The already-mentioned A Foul Light Shines (a WH40K rogue trader ship is thrown to Equestria by a warp storm)
-The Dread Chitin from the same author probably counts (Twilight screws up a spell (TM) and is transported to a death-world together with Dash; there's a BattleTech base there and a person from the author's original universe)

And some non-pony things:
-Stars Fade - Shepard destroys the Reapers and then is transported to Kirkwall, in the world of Thedas.
-Mass Effect: Human Revolution - Adam Jensen is cryogenically frozen sometime after the events of DX3, and is woken up a century later. Though this is more of a fusion.
-The Mission Stays The Same - An Imperial Stormtrooper from an Inquisitor's retinue, as well as an Eldar Farseer, are thrown into another universe by a Lord of Change. The universe is, of course, Mass Effect. It's enjoyable if you can get past the bad grammar in places, as well as the first chapter (it's not good).

Value to the story.
Admittedly, the initial reason I even thought of it was because Stringtheory was saying the story wasn't dark enough and he did have a point, but at the time I was being impatient with him and didn't want to listen to his criticism because I was stupid.
He had a fair point and I see how my story is lacking on the earlier chapters now.

However, when I actually went to write it, I thought; right, if I'm going to add something dark, how can I make it affect Crimson and what use can it be in the future?


Crimson sees the event first hand, and in his mind, fails to stop it.
[Which falls under these tropes: Failure to save murder <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FailureToSaveMurder">Blood on these hands</a> It's all my fault.]

Anyway, yeah. He sees the event just before it's happening and rushes off to try prevent it when he realises what's happening, but it's too late. He was too far away and the ghouls were too close.
Because of his failure, he witnesses something that will never leave his memory -- even if he got the memory taken away, the after effect would always make him a tiny bit scared and incredibly angry around ghouls.

Sane ghouls he can... just about be around, though he has to have them prove that they are sane and won't try any bullshit before he can let his guard down, though I don't think I portray this quite enough, though I will in future when the opportunity comes about.
Feral ghouls? He loses his mind to rage, pretty much. He goes into a berserker mode and wants to see them all die, only stopping if they are or if he's forced to.


This will have its very own very special plot piece in the very near future - I plan to make something big out of it.



So yes, it's for development of the character to give him something to take away his constantly cool edge from being trained to be so all his life.

Are Ghouls really into raping and all that? Mostly the Ferals just seem to want to tear/eat shit up, while the regulars are, so far as we've seen, often on the straight and narrow. (Disproportionately so, considering most everyone else.... isn't)
