Re: Gun/Military Thread
Got a "new" top-break revolver today. Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works Safety Automatic, either Second or Third Model. Will get pics soon, looks small even in my hands, and my New Vaquero looks like it could eat it.

I'm not much of a revolver type, though I'd be willing to get a Vaquero or similar loading-gate design for that classic cowboy shit. If I wanted performance, I'd just get an automatic (preferably a 1911)

Re: Gun/Military Thread
I love mine. I use both Schofield and Colt brass for reloads, cheapo 200 grain bullets for plinking. Balances well, same grip shape and size as my 51 Navy repro, and it has a transfer bar safety and lawyer lock hidden in the grips. Surprisingly, the near-century old top break .32 also has a transfer bar.

Ewwww. Nah, Glock isn't bad. I strongly prefer a good Sig and I especially love the Colt m1911, but I've used a few Glocks and can understand the desire for reliability.

Hey, Glocks work-- can't knock them for that. Although I'm liking the Canik55 pistols, excellent quality clones for $400 and under? Yes please.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
My folks are quite fixated on the new S&W Striker-fired stuff. The Shield, in particular, seems like a fantastic little carry piece.
I'm way out of touch with what the civilian gun market's been doing the last year, though. I just find myself praying that I get an M4 or at least a 249 when we go to draw, instead of getting stuck with the fuckin' Beast.
I suppose that's what I get for qualing Expert on both machine guns but barely Sharpshooter with an M4.

One of the reasons I love the M240 is when I have to use it, it'll be mounted on a truck.Â

At least we get the slightly lighter and quite shorter L model, mostly. And my platoon's got MGO's on it so, between them and a tripod, I can blast motherfuckers at 800 yards pretty damn easily.
Doesn't make the goddamn thing any more fun to carry.

We had to qual with the things on a bipod on a pop range from 400 to 800 yards with irons. Not hard-- it is a fantastic machine (got expert huehuehue). Now only if I can get it with our M16A2's so I can have two things hanging off that little badge.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
I get sharpshooter (at best) every time but my unit just tells me to buy and wear the Expert badge anyway. Not exactly the most egregious 'exaggeration' on a uniform, though, since my old team leader's ERB was missing his ASM and NDSM. I liked to point at his chest (as he wore them) and talk about how he was stealing valor from all the guys that really did graduate Basic.
In unrelated news, as far as I know, we're still expecting wymmins (well....cis wymmins) to start turning up in the units in a matter of months. I'm certainly not going to pass judgement on anyone until I meet them, nor am I going to judge every female infantryman based on the one or two that my unit'll get eventually, but.....from what I've seen of Army chicks, my hopes are statistically not high.

I always wanted access to the pop-up range with one of my old rifles just for shits and giggles. See what I can do with an old Mosin or Mauser.

Sadly, you're probably right. Just point the front sight post under the target and it'll hit-- Not so great for pin-point shooting, but they'll hit a body all day.

The Vaquero is a blast to shoot. Smooth and easy to cock. The top-break has a trigger pull from Hell, and a hammer pull almost as bad. Need to find a lighter spring for it, the one in there could be used as suspension for a pick-up truck.

I suspect for much the same reason as some modern guns. "Safety" and whatnot.

Actually, that's it. One of the marketing posters was somebody smashing the hammer with a hammer.

Ah, yes. Because terrible safety habits and ignoring the rules of gun safety can be entirely compensated for by simply worsening the performance of your products. I just love that sort of logic.

Seriously, no one without a chronic masturbating problem can fire this thing. Be a neat little range piece once I get some ammo for it though.

Many reasons I don't go to shows. They get confused when you bypass their all black and polymer optics and stocks for Bubba Joe's Wooden Crate of Rusted Mysteries.

I mean, I like the polymer stuff as much as the next gal, but half of the shit at SHOT seems to be $4,000 super-"tactical" Special Forces COD-wank-pieces.
