Re: Gun/Military Thread
I'm back motherfuckers.
Got promoted, two weeks of assisting air assault, carried a guy off on a stretcher, drove Humvees through Boston (including towing a 105 Howitzer). Almost t-boned a Rav-4 full of stupid bitches as well (who the fuck cuts off an up-armored Humvee on a rotary?).
Oh, and saw a lady accidentally start a fire on the side of the highway while stuck in traffic. Then got to watch a bikini-clad hot chick dump her water bottle on it after running through traffic, titties all a bounce.
I also learned in a SHARP class that a traffic cone can fit up someone's ass.

Welcome back, ya Yankie bastard.
The tittyfire incident, as it shall henceforth be known, sounds quite fascinating.
I think you'd have been doing the world a favor if you'd have just not stopped at the Rav-4 incident.
Despite my mild curiosity, I don't really want you to elaborate on the traffic cone

Almost crushed an F-150 too. I know you think you're big and bad with your lifted truck, but I've got 7000 pounds on you and it does not stop quickly. If I'm in a five-ton, my tires alone weigh more than you do; cut me off and there's little chance you're not getting at least partially crushed.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
Sort of reminds me of during Armed Forces Day over here. They had a Jackal 2 out on display. At the end of the day it simply drove onto the road to go back to the depot and as it went to the lights, some compensating dude in an Audi pulled up beside the 7 ton vehicle and started revving his engine for a drag away from the emptied square.
Of course, what he doesn't know is that despite weighing what it does and being twice the size of the Audi, a Jackal can go from 0-60MPH in mere seconds with the huge amount of torque that engine produces to max out at about 90MPH.
I'll never forget the grin on those squaddies faces as a 7 ton gun truck left a high spec car in the dust and the businessman inside fuming.

After looking up various surplus rifles, mainly semi-automatic ones, I've set my heart on finding a SKS or a Hakim. Preferably the Hakim, as it's just a motherfucking awesome rifle. 8mm semi-automatic utilizing a blow-back system and specifically made to fire surplus 8mm Mauser ammunition? I'm in love.

But the SKS is shorter, lighter, ammo's cheaper, and it's got that sexy, sexy bayonet

Me, I like the M14's and the AR-15's, but that's just me. You're allowed to be a mutated sack of Communist shit fan of the imports, though

Find me a solid-shooting Springfield or M1 under $500 and I'll grab that. The AR-15 is a solid platform, but it lacks the fun factor and the cheap bastard in me would make my fist connect with my balls in a less-then-sensual manner if I bought an AR.

Fair enough. It's to my advantage that I'm a big shotgun fan, since they tend to be cheaper than most handguns, even.

I've been seeing a lot of double-barrels and some inexpensive over-unders around. Shotguns aren't my forte so I haven't checked their make or model, but they were definitely solid and looked to have at least started at the level of "excellent quality". Dust 'em off, a little cleaning, and I'd bet they'd be as reliable as any new one.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
Newer-made double-barrels, from what I've seen, tend to be more expensive than their pump-action counterparts. Incidentally, it's the pump-actions I'm most a fan of.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
That's because newer(and higher quality) over-unders are specifically designed and built with trap and skeet competitions in mind and require tighter tolerances. On the other hand, pump-actions are built more with general purpose stuff in mind like pest control, bird hunting, police work, and scaring off your daughter's punk boyfriend.Mister Frost wrote:Newer-made double-barrels, from what I've seen, tend to be more expensive than their pump-action counterparts. The Hakim looks like a nice gun for what it is. By that I mean:
I wouldn't mind having one, but I'd rather grab an AR-15 and a cheap Remington 870, or a Mossberg 500/590, before I get anything else.

That's not a bad call. Both of those are multi-role and very modable, as opposed to the rather static Hakim.

If the Hakim proves to rare to find, I'll probably go with an SKS or a cheap AK. I also saw a Thompson recently but I ain't got money for that.

From what I've read, at least, it tended to be heavier and less ergonomic than its competitor, the FN "Right Arm Of The Free World" FAL.

I was going by the list of "[url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_rifle#France}French Service Rifles[/url]". It was apparently the generation just prior to the FAMAS' adoption. The one before that was the MAS-49, according to wikipedia.

In that case, they should have stuck with the G3. FAMAS.....well, it's not exactly the best weapon around.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
Heard it is the first military rifle intended not to kill but to harm the enemy.
You know, on the theory than one harmed enemy soldier will mobilize several other soldier to rescue him / her. Kinda like the anti-personal mines.
Don't know if it was the original intent or if it's just some post-facto bullshit attempt at justifying it, though.

Holy shit, almost $900 for a handgun? Better be worth it for that price!
How's the used market for firearms of this class?
