Kay, if you just watch movies and video games, sure, people throw away perfectly good magazines when the cartridges within are expended. Nobody in real life would do so unless fighting for their lives.
Seriously... how can someone believe that?

Best part of this, reusability, of course, doesn't end there. One of the top comments for that video:CamoBadger wrote:

That made me laugh.I wonder what her reaction would be if we told her you can reuse spent casings to make your own bullets?

Oh, shit, I forgot the second half of this story.
So the people backing the law in CO heard her statement and quickly jumped up to correct her and say that she mixed it up.
And yes, they are reusable.
So no, they didn't learn their lesson.
And continuing on anti-gun stupidity: How could we forget about "the shoulder thing that goes up"?

I don't know if everyone knows what a clip is, but basically it's usually a small piece of metal that holds between 5 and 15 rounds for quickly being loaded into magazines, or in some cases they are loaded straight into the rifle (like the M1 Garand)."She simply misspoke in referring to 'magazines,' when she should have referred to 'clips,' which cannot be reused because they don't have a feeding mechanism."
And yes, they are reusable.

Stripper clips are often used to recharge magazines, or so I've read. Many bolt-action rifles also feed from both stripper clips or loose rounds. Making them reusable is simple, just don't throw em' away.CamoBadger wrote:Oh, shit, I forgot the second half of this story.

There was a politician from New York pushing for a ban on weapons like assault rifles and guns with "barrel shrouds". A reporter asked her if what a barrel shroud was and why we should ban them. She dodged the question 2 times before he straight up asked "do you know what a barrel shroud is?"
Her response was "no I don't. I think it's the shoulder thing that goes up."

Re: Gun/Military Thread
Even if she was supposed to be talking about folding stocks, they're just to make a weapon lighter/less clumsy/more compact or easier to bring to bear in close combat. It doesn't make sense to ban those but not the weapons you'd put such a thing on to make short enough for the purpose anyway.CamoBadger wrote:That's what she thought it was.

Yes, she wanted to ban the metal covering on barrels that help with cooling and didn't even know what it was.
Barrel shrouds help with the longevity and handling of the weapon, both are perfectly valid in a civilian setting.

They're safety features, too.
I guess politicians are okay with us having weapons so long as we might hurt ourselves using them

One reason I can say the Israeli are taking heavy inspiration from Starship Troopers for their own military :
Just look at that gun.

In the movie their weapons are synced to their helmet's HUD. And they didn't behave like morons and had armor that was worth a damn in space.
And finally Rico shows up in a giant fucking mech suit with miniguns and bigass chainsaw. T'was glorious.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
So I've decided that for my HK91 I want an HK Claw Mount as well as an HK G3 SG1 scope to put on it. I could go with after-market stuff from other companies and probably find it all a lot easier (not to mention save a shit load of money. Seriously, just the claw mount is $75, and the scope is a healthy chunk of a month's rent), but everything I have for it right now is HK factory standard, so why not keep with it?
I'd also like to get a HK Gen 4 1200m rear sight to swap out since they're super sexy and more accurate, but holy shit I'd starve (it's like $400).

My family's in town. I just got back from the range with them. Everyone, obviously, loved my AR. The only person that outshot me was my Uncle Rick, himself an ex-Army guy.

You should see his one with the Lee-Enfield SMLE against the M1 Garand where the only test is a very short range speed shoot with precisely the amount of targets to force specific reloads in its favour.
That said, even if it isn't particularly done well he's at least so over the top you can see it as a tongue in cheek thing. It's a shame they never got him in to do a USMC ep of Deadliest Warrior. The Ham would have drowned the room...if any of the scenery was left unchewed by the end of it.
I do have something of a guilty pleasure in silly OTT cheesefests.

Yeah, I've watched all of R. Lee Ermy's shows from "Mail Call" to "Lock and Load" and I know how much he can ham it up. Funnily enough, that clip comparing the M-16 to the AK-47 actually had two of the three tests designed to favor the AK-47. Had the tests included such things as long range accuracy, ease of modification, and versatility, it wouldn't even have needed Gunny's commentary to put the M-16 in good light.
