It's times like this that it's nice to have a history of being eccentric/crazy. I randomly make noises (sometimes animal, sometimes mineral), begin singing or dancing when no music is playing, babble, talk about how amazing random little things or details are that I hadn't previously noticed. I sneak up on people, I randomly laugh or stare into space. I draw symbols and faces and hang them around my cube, then never talk about them.
So, when I go around showing everyone I can my awesome new keychain pony they just go "oh." and walk away.
Apart from extremely minor variations, you and me are two peas in a pod.
I practically do all the same stuff, with slight variations.
remove the hanging stuff up, but keep pretty much the rest (including random noises when bored as all fuck and no-one nearby), add telling stories to myself with make-it-up-asa-you-go plotlines with different voices for different characters...
yeah.
we really are. LOL

Pretty much the norm at my household, though. We're all bloody weird.

Well, it isn't like we're broke, my mom is actually very good with managing money even though we live on a fixed income, so we don't really have any trouble (and as I'm constantly saying, she always goes out of her way to buy me stuff, even when I tell her not to). It's just since I don't have any income right now, I have to save what I've got left in case of emergency.Kippershy wrote:...Stuff like that is child's play to me. so my friends on steam were able to convince me to buy the plushies.
don't regret at all, though I do hate that I got mugged off with the whole customs bullshit.
Oh - and if you don't end up reading it, it's fine.
But yeah, international shipping loves ripping people off...
I will read Broken Bonds eventually! It's on my list so I have to read it! I'm just not sure when that will be... right now the top of my to-do list is finishing the commentary for PH, then I've got 4 high priority pictures to work on... which usually by the time I finish those, either I have more pictures that have gone up in priority, or a new chapter of PH comes out...
It's such a hard life being an artist heh. Not to mention people keep trying to encourage me to open commissions, which would take up even more time...

Heh...I can actually see that happening, though. I could just run upstairs right now, scream it at the top of my lungs, then full-speed up to my room before anyone could say anything. Then they'd be like, "...wtf?" and be all confused until my sister says something about it.
Yeah...it's kinda approaching that point and more along the lines of that. Once my laptop came with a terminal case of "my-hard-drive-is-dying-stop-using-me-and-replace-it" about half a month ago, I had to move downstairs to the desktop. I kinda don't really bother to close the browser or leave it on another tab when I walk away, and they aren't really nosy. Plus, my sister had already found out about my bronydom by accident, so...that got out of the way.

Of course, if one of them does happen to get close, I still flip over to something else...

I think your problem is you got a need for a dance number but no one ever joins in at the right time. Have you ever gone to work or travelled with a top hat and cane "just in case" and not know why?swicked wrote:

Open the commissions you get the money, get the money, get the money and acquire something to make yourself more interesting. You might have been missing out on that wicked model train set you always wanted in the back of your mind, or materials to make your own set piece you've always wanted to do, or maybe you've always been ready to have a crippling drug... alcohol or gambling addition and you've just never had the funds to get that going in style.WavemasterRyx wrote:

Question: P-21 says there were three nice mares in 99. So Duct Tape, BlackJack, and...?
Also, sorry somber, I can't do reviews, just snippets of commentary.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Total time to read Project Horizons, catch up on the comments thread, reply to comments, leave my own, and in general appreciate what I have just read? 8 hours and counting. And I've been at a standing desk for most of it. This is why I leave the new chapters for my days off!
The soul de-suckers have already been discussed and I'll get to the Infiltration Meeting when I edit some review in, but on the topic of Hightower: regardless of what it started out as, would this be easier to swallow if you thought of Hightower as a development facility for Project Eternity with some jail thrown in? With the right kind of clout, it seems like a good place to hide such a sinister design.
...
Seriously, though you should get a separate thread for these. A dedicated thread to check. (Although I am disappointed in the lack of infiltration planning music when the team is planning the break-in. Something like this.)
Wait, she doesn't have that crush already?
Or Whisper and Stygius could do it. Oh well.
His old name was totally Happy Bottle. He ran pony Cheers and everypony loved him and he kissed children on the forehead and gave money to cripples.
- Personal opinions and some chapter stuff, thrown into a box because this post is already too long:
- I should have realised it by the title and the opening quote, but I didn't see the Caper coming at all. I cannot properly express how happy this makes me feel. When Project Horizons starts to touch on my favourite genres I become unbelievably ecstatic. I was fond of this chapter. It put a will in me to get something done, and for that I am grateful. I was very hesitant about the little piece on Cerberus I've been working on. Now I do believe I will not only finish it, but add to it as Cerberus sees more and more of Hightower. I... really don't feel like I have an option here. Got to make one sided conversations with Cerberus and Carrion a thing.
On Carrion, I'd like to say that he's particularly interesting because of what I know about Charon. Which is that there is not much to know about Charon. Carrion has already shrugged off the doormat personality I assumed he had. It would not surprise me at all to learn that he had his own designs. Or he might just be a nastier Gawd, loyal to the contract.
I expected quiet horror or just retrospective disgust at the collection of soul jars. I did not expect the most horrifyingly humorous fight scene ever to grace digital print! Sure, it's uproariously funny that Carrion's face wrestled with a teddy bear and Cerberus fenced with a screwdriver. And they could have been murdered by a small thing they were powerless to stop. Yes, the jars are small and even comical. They're also unstoppable. Imagine this tiny little thing that does not belong in a just world. Completely invulnerable. You can do nothing to stop it, and its only concern on this earth is to kill you.
A little funny, though.
When Blackjack dropped Petunia's name I cheered. Project Horizons hears you yelling into the screen, and the characters actually do the blindingly obvious things that seem so beyond the grasp of other heroes (and villains).
Goo ponies I could take or leave. I don't get the reference. Good to know Cerberus is essential, though!
Now the Caper Plotting scene I did enjoy. If I could change anything, it would be some more... telling people what to do. Things like, "Cerberus! While Blackjack is distracting the guard, you're going to cut the power to the security systems. That will give Xanthe about thirteen seconds to cut the glass and get the jewels." Hearing it laid out like a destined-to-fail Scooby Doo plan was one of the more fun moments in such films. Touched on everyone, though. Good.
Now I'm going to go and try to contain my headcanon for Cerberus. I just hope he doesn't get an ignoble death.
Most of the points you raise, I just respectfully disagree. Not much to say. I gotta mention that BJ brought up a few trips at the beginning of the tunnels, mentioning the thought of stopping by Chapel. It was a sign that they had taken appropriate precautions and spent a good deal of time getting ready, also suggested by the addition of a team member with an identity concealed by the narrative. Conviction and integrity. That's what Glory had. Xanthe has fear and something more. She is not good- she saves fillies only for the fear of being haunted by a vengeful spirit. She is as good and as evil as the craftsmen from whom she hails. There are always... what was it? Propoli? Those who simply create and let others worry about morality or the consequence of progress. And her exile came in wrathful swiftness- Glory wasn't violated such until after some development. Xanthe begins her second life away from the hope of returning. Even her spiritual beliefs fail her. I don't know much about zebra life after death, but it doesn't seem like something to get much of a reprieve from Star curses. Glory can still die. Maybe even for her to form a reluctant crush on Blackjack down the line when she gets to know her better.

She knows it is weird, I do not think she knows how weird. As in, soul sucking weird.Icy Shake wrote:"BJ, why aren't you using the pointy stick made out of soul-eating metal" the whole fight.
Older, ghoulified, but still Snips. I could easily see him trembling on the robot with an iron grip, even if it was a mistake. All the more reason for Cerberus' thruster failure.swicked wrote:

Apologies if this has been raised, but wasn't this chapter the first time Blackjack's used 'magic bullets' since 'Black'? I looked through the past few chapters and couldn't find any instance of them being used outside of the Happyhorn simulation.
As for the rest of the chapter, Blackjack really has the wasteland give her a tough time, doesn't it? The Smooze is somewhat terrifying in its unrelenting nature...

I have no idea what I'm going to do for PH's birthday... Panic. Panic sounds good.
... I'm so lame...
Anyways, my deepest thanks again to Somber, Hinds, Snipe, and Bronode, as always, for the huge amount of effort you all put into this story. Thank you. *hugs*
- Chapter 46:
"I was so used to being in the middle of the proverbial shitstorm that somepony cutting me a break was depressingly novel." - Well, when you put it like that... yeah it is a little depressing. But, it's great that Willow actually knows enough and is willing to put aside her distaste for Blackjack to not falsely accuse her.
"Three days from now, nopony's gonna give a fuck. 'Lip deserves better." - I didn't realize it til now, but this is an awesome reference to the game mechanics. Which actually makes it even more sad than it already was... wow... Nicely done.
I didn't think it was Ahuizotl, since he had just left the bar and there didn't seem like there'd be enough time for him to attack Tulip, but pointing out his weak statue and that Carrion didn't do it makes for a pretty solid case.
And since it wasn't Rampage, that means it could only be somepony else... and it could actually be completely unrelated, but I doubt it.
Willow's warning when she leaves is nice and creepy.
"Don't tell me I actually gave you my whole 'when I was alive' sob story. I hate that shit." "Sorry. But it was an interesting story." - It actually is a really interesting story. Seeing all the little pieces that make up Rampage coming together is great to finally see after not knowing for so long. And we finally have a name for the Angel, Nurse Candy, and all the guesses that she was a MoP nurse were absolutely right (and Dr. Octopus is cleared now).
But just the story of the Angel itself is great, poor Softheart...
"'Security' was etched on the back in black letters, and she'd even painted my filly in place." - I have to say, from the very first time Blackjack had the Crusader's filly on her armor, I had a small hope she would keep it, and I'm really happy she has.
Also, please don't eat your armor Blackjack, it is not an emergency food supply, it's supposed to protect you from being shot.
"Oh Maiden of the Stars, why have you cursed me so!?" - To be able to find Blackjack here, of all places, I'm beginning to think Xanthe may legitimately be cursed.
And I really can't seem to remember what my reaction was to finding out that Xanthe had saved Boing. Maybe it put me into too much shock... All I know is, I couldn't be happier that she's alive. Even though it might have been easier for her to have died than deal with the trauma, I am glad that she survived.
"But if you are going, I want to make sure that that horrible place doesn't take any more lives." - This is so honorable... I could just hug Graves.
"Cerberus! I've got a mission for you. You're going to escort Nurse Graves on her expedition." - And this, just wow, I was definitely not expecting Blackjack to receive so much help, it is really quite touching.
"Then she glanced over at Stygius, saw his disapproval, and blinked and forced a grin." - Oh, ouch for Psychoshy... I don't know, I really do want her to be able to be happy still, but I guess she's really going to have to earn it.
- Also, I was just going through my favorites on Ponibooru to re-save them, and saw a comment about how it would be interesting if Psychoshy does survive until the end, to see what would happen if she ever gets a chance to meet Fluttershy. I had never thought about that, you know? I think calling it "interesting" would be a severe understatement.
"So, that's me, Lacunae, Rampage, Psychoshy, Stygius, Mr. Shears, Nurse Graves, Cerberus, Xanthe..." - And Carrion. A party of 10 (11) going into the "most dangerous" building in Hoofington trips a huge death flag for me. Having so many characters gathered together in one place makes it seem almost certain that not all of them are going to make it out alive. It's the "Rule of Ninja", I believe, anyways, I'm quite terrified to see just who it is that'll end up taking the fall for the team...
"If you're worried about him shooting you in the back, just put him in the front." - That's not funny, that's not funny at a- Okay yes, it's damn funny.
Ahuizotl just wanting a mob boss' treasure seems perfectly fitting, but at the same time far too easy. For some reason I feel he's genuine about helping Blackjack, but at the same time, I won't be surprised at all if he's standing just inside the entrance with a group of Harbingers waiting for when Blackjack returns.
"'I fear they got carried away,' Lacunae said bashfully as she blushed." - Mech's picture of Lacunae in the first lacy outfit makes this scene just that much better. It makes me happy that Lacunae got even a small chance to enjoy herself. But the poor thing didn't get to enjoy it for very long...
Alright, detailed planning for getting in! Yeah, no, of course it won't go so easily. That's the whole reason you make a plan, so that you know just how badly things are going to go.
On first look, I can see how the anti-Enervation talisman might come off as being "a little too convenient". But really, considering that Snips has been planning this for quite possibly near 200 years, shows some pretty impressive magic, and was well versed in dark zebra arts, it really doesn't seem very far-fetched at all.
Also, yeah, definitely wondering just how the talismans were made. It's probably for the better if Blackjack never asks about that.
"Clearly 'easy' must have meant 'freaking impossible' two centuries ago." - Yeah, Psychoshy does have a bit of a point here.
"The subway? As in the subway that's full of feral ghouls? Dozens of ferals? Hundreds?" "Yeah, it would be a pony buffet if we went down there." - Eat fresh! *gets a truck thrown at him*
"Depending on how much radiation Lacunae's got sucked up... I might know a pony who they will listen to." - And my immediate thought was, "Why would they listen any more to the Goddess? That doesn't make much sense."
"Green light emanating from behind us reflected off the streams and gave the tunnel a eerie luminescence." - Should be [an eerie], but also, as soon as I read this, my brain was all "Oh man, he didn't, would he? It isn't really Silver Spoon is it?"
And then I read, "Like, these tunnels are so disgusting! Somepony really needs to clean them up!" and I totally broke down into incoherent babble. I know it ends pretty sad for her, but it was still really great to see Silver Spoon again. I remember even Somber was a bit shocked after I read Chapter 3 the first time and commented about how happy I was that she'd given Silver Spoon a part.
The explanation for how a ghoul retains their sanity is interesting, as is Snips' comments about the soul.
"I'm sure the ferals are just fascinated by all this talk about souls." - Okay, fine, I'll move on, Carrion, geeze.
"They're here. They've been surrounding us since we left the station." - Oh well that's just wonderful.
The fight with the zombies is one of your standard well-done fight scenes. I don't have really much to say about it except that, for it being the single thing they actually accurately planned for, they took far more damage than can possibly be good.
Psychoshy's genuine concern for Stygius is still surprisingly touching.
And Silver Spoon being so happy because she thinks she's helping Diamond Tiara is adorable. You know, I've thought of drawing Silver Spoon ever since chapter 3, but I still haven't... I need to remedy that soon.
The exposition on Quartz is interesting, but I think I'll leave that to the more clever ponies to speculate on.
So Snips isn't after Project Eternity? That's... odd. I mean obviously he could be just after something they used 'for' it that would be otherwise helpful to him now (or just trying to find Snails' body to put him to rest), or something like that, but I remain suspicious.
The Dealer has nothing to say, and is still looking more pale and grim than he had been before Hippocratic Research. I wonder if not saying anything is because there's no warnings to give, or because he knows Blackjack has to do it anyways.
More visions, and they only last a blink of an eye, fascinating. For this first one there isn't much to say, though I certainly can't blame Rarity for giving in to the dark temptation at the promise of being able to protect her friends... I'd have tried it in an instant too.
"I felt a sensation like trotting through a sheet of ice water, and my E.F.S. suddenly went down completely." - I remember hearing magic blocking being described very similarly to this before, though I don't remember from where, interesting heh.
"I beheld a lambent, radioactive nightmare." - Always one for understatement, aren't you, Blackjack?
When I said that the soul jar room was incredibly terrifying in my initial response, much like with Boing I must have been forgetting this room out of shock... Even the description of the room itself gives it a wonderfully terrifying feeling, but then there's the slime.
I would like to take this time to point out that after reading this chapter, my party in the D&D game ran into a trap of constantly respawning, exploding, acidic slimes. I kinda freaked out for a few seconds, and none of them understood why because not a single one of my friends will ever willingly read PH...
The entire scene with the Smooze was great, indeed calling it the Smooze was even better (even though I've never seen and have no intention of seeing the older generation videos to fully appreciate the reference), but there were two parts that really stood out to me for their emotional impact: Psychoshy saving Blackjack, and Lacunae nearly getting eaten for not being able to teleport.
"Tiara, why does Twist keep calling you Blackjack?" - I think I was doing alright up to this line, and then I lost it crying.
Seeing Silver Spoon break down like this hurt, a lot.
From the second Rarity recording... Petunia seems like a pony that we should know, but I just can't place her name. I may have to go back and check on that later, to see if I can find anything.
Okay, and then there's the room full of soul jars. As I said in my initial response... This room, and the subsequent... trying not to die (it could hardly be called a fight) is entirely, and utterly terrifying. It's really easy for someone to underestimate just how frightening it can be to fight an animated object until they have to actually do it (especially if said object can't be damaged in any way...).
There isn't a single thing that isn't terrifying about what happens in that room...
I guess since Carrion survived I can say it without feeling bad, but the teddy bear attacking him reminded me of the "evil" teddy bear from the 2nd Tenchi Muyo movie - "Did we hurt you, did we scare you? I'M SO SORRY!"
Also, there was a tiny voice in the back of my head that enjoyed the soul boots putting themselves on Xanthe (the same voice that enjoyed Velvet being locked up in a small, dark room)... That voice has, once again, been repeatedly stabbed with swords of light and put a dresser in front of the door it was locked in.
Petunia trying to kill Blackjack with the sword is another really powerful scene, really quite magnificently done.
"Even if she could make armor to protect from bullets, there would always be a way for somepony to kill the wearer." - A sad truth of armor, no defense will ever be able to perfectly protect someone, there will always be a way around it. If you want to truly protect someone, there are only two real ways to do it 1) find a way for them to avoid the dangers (that is, rather than trying to decrease damage from getting hit, don't get hit in the first place) which is just as problematic or 2) eliminate the dangers first.
The zebra stealth suit is actually really cute, as much as a soul stuck in armor can be cute anyways. And something about Xanthe wearing it makes both of them even cuter... I don't even know...
"Nothing can stop... the smooze..." - I don't know whether to start singing the Blob theme song, or to tell Rampage to "stop being a creepy bastard!"
I think both will suffice.
"I walked to the library door and slowly pushed it open. And stepped into Hell." - Yeah, from the description, I would say Blackjack's appraisal seems fairly apt.
What an ending... next chapter doesn't look like it's going to be any less terrifying than this one. I'll be looking forward to it.
I have no idea what I'm going to do for PH's birthday... Panic. Panic sounds good.

I always struggle coming up with names while DMing for non human characters and pony names are doubly hard since most are (Emotion/Feeling/Action then object/emotion/Feeling/Action) I tried forever for example to find a pony name starting in or ending in "Gates" before giving up. But Happy Bottle, that's a pony name and I nominate it for Ahuizotl for being Happy Bottle.Meleagridis wrote:Happy Bottle.Overlong Analysis Cobalt wrote:Ghouls and their fake names, right? His old name was totally Happy Bottle. He ran pony Cheers and everypony loved him and he kissed children on the forehead and gave money to cripples.

Yeah...kinda didn't do any searching at all for music for the past week. I've been trying this entire time to NOT reuse songs, but I've pretty much reached the end of my library. Seriously, though you should get a separate thread for these. A dedicated thread to check. (Although I am disappointed in the lack of infiltration planning music when the team is planning the break-in. Something like this.)

Which brings up an interesting question. Was Nurse Candy's cutie mark a skull? If so, that's kind of a creepy destiny. If not, that's got some potentially even creepier ramifications. Did the skull replace her mark (creepier) when she got bound to Rampage? Or did it change (extra creepy) when she snapped? Why doesn't her original cutie mark manifest, in either case?WavemasterRyx wrote:And we finally have a name for the Angel, Nurse Candy, and all the guesses that she was a MoP nurse were absolutely right
The Law of Inverse Ninjas, yes. I have the same feeling. Way too many expendables. And given the flying screwdriver, I'm terribly concerned about Cerb's combat inhibitor.WavemasterRyx wrote:"So, that's me, Lacunae, Rampage, Psychoshy, Stygius, Mr.

Alright, I took Aon's offhand picture idea and went with it. So, I present to you, the PH commentariat: Aonee's OC - Crystalane, comforting our grey goddess - Somber, in her time of sorrow. (I just wish some of the limitations of the pony creator hadn't gotten in the way...)
Enjoy.

Well there's your problem, okay gang we need to chip in some more money so Somber can afford a broom, some primer to fix that chipping and don't even get me started on that insulation.
Also somber needs a kitten
Low maintenance high dawwwww ratings.
OAN, I rented a attic apartment from a couple a few years back in a 1930s house, worse mistake of my life. Sure it was great in the Winter (Nice, snug and warm) but come summer if it was 87*F(30C) outside it would be 95*F (35*F) inside that apartment. Even if I was only paying about 310$ a month for over a thousand square feet it was no worth it the day the temperatures in Kentucky hit records at 99*F (37C) it was per my temperature gauge over 110*F (43C) one or two things I swear melted slightly and I had no choice but to make myself scares on my one day off and stay out all day and literally go old fashion and buy a cooler and pack it full of ice to stick in my room.

- Coming up with names is the hardest part of making a character for me, I feel your pain... It's like, in a PnP group last week, the GM couldn't think of a name for a foal-killer, and one of the players was all "Call him 'Sweet Dreams'". Oh how I wish I could come up with such fitting names so quickly.Cptadder wrote:I always struggle coming up with names while DMing for non human characters and pony names are doubly hard since most are (Emotion/Feeling/Action then object/emotion/Feeling/Action) I tried forever for example to find a pony name starting in or ending in "Gates" before giving up. - Ah, Law of Inverse Ninjas, well I was close. I mean, I suppose the Law is a bit less effective in MLP since it's based on harmony and working together, which requires groups, but still it's very worrying. I didn't even think about the screwdriver and the combat inhibitor... If it had taken it out though, Cerberus would have reacted immediately, wouldn't he? It's certainly another huge sword dangling over the group though, isn't it...

Well, it would be kind of interesting to find out she suddenly started wearing long skirts to work or something... but ultimately, I agree, it's most likely that the change occurred within Rampage. Still, like the Pink Cloud filly in Canterlot, it suggests a deep-seated warping of her most fundamental essence. It's not just a psychosis; her very soul has been corrupted.WavemasterRyx wrote:That is a very interesting question... I sincerely doubt the skull was her original cutie mark. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it managed to take loose a couple of the bolts holding the inhibitor on.
