Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Alright, initial comments time! Except, I'm really not sure what to say right now... There's so much to say about this chapter and I want to say it all in my full review I can't decide what to say here this time!
Okay... I'll settle for two things for my initial review. First, as one could probably guess, I was incredibly overjoyed to see Silver Spoon again (even though it turned out to be so horribly sad...), and secondly, sweet Lunar butter that room full of soul jars was terrifying. Not as terrifying as the screaming room at the start of 32, of course, but still pretty damn terrifying.
Once again, thank you very much Somber, Hinds, Snipe, and Bronode for all the hard work you guys put in on this. *hugs you all*
I will, as always, endeavor to finish my full commentary as soon as possible.

Adder, don't appeal so much to my love of Bleach and make me start trying to figure out how a serious crossover/sidestory would work out!Cptadder wrote:The Soul Sword which I'm referring to from now on as a Zanpakuto is not only a weapon against pretty much everything it's also slices and dices soul cloth and soul armor.

Looking at the story updates on EqD, I came up with a new drinking game:
Whenever PH updates, you scroll through the comments section of the fanfic update in which the update was announced. Every time Somber says sorry, take a drink. See if you can get through the whole thing.

I know I'm chiming in really late, but the last two chapters were awesome.
Pretty much everything Velvet related made me smile, same with Lacunae dress up. Lots of really good stuff in both chapters with character exploration in the downtimes and excellent action. I really thought someone was going to die to the smooze or possessed junk.

No two Ghouls are identical so it could be ichor, blood or cherry cola. It's maaagical radiation after all.swicked wrote:Quick question: Why does Tulip bleed blood? Don’t ghouls ooze ichors or something?

But it just does not fit with the changes brought by magical mutation..
But every pony has their own head cannon so no point in broadsiding you with it all... ha a couple of days on the lake was great but I did not get smashed on the crappy beer...

Ghouls still have blood. Even though they are considered undead they aren't really the same as WoW undead.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Interesting, interesting... who are we using for #7, though?WavemasterRyx wrote:So... If you were to assign the ponies in Blackjack's party to the 7 virtues and the 7 sins - how would you arrange them? Yes, I wanted to ask this simply for people to discuss, and not for any other reason.
Blackjack - charity, lust
BJ could fit many of the virtues, but I feel that generosity and self-sacrifice fit her best. She could fit many vices, too, but I think lust is the one that she doesn't even feel guilty about, thanks to coming from a society that encourages it.
P-21 - chastity, wrath
I vacillated between using P-21 or Rampage for wrath, but in the end, Rampage doesn't let her anger control her. She uses it, certainly, but it doesn't define her life the way it does for P-21. His comment that everyone is a red bar to him really made an impression on me -- this is a stallion who is angry at the entire world. Picking a virtue was tough, and I ended up with chastity mostly by default. He doesn't really practice it as a virtue so much as a function of his vice.
Glory - kindness, pride
Glory is almost a shoo-in for kindness, but I think she also has the abiding sense that she's better than your typical wastelander thanks to her education, morals, and society. She wants to be this angel of grace, descending from on high to dispense aid to those in need. She doesn't express this as much as she used to, but I sort of have the sense that she's just been running to keep up ever since she lost her wing.
Rampage - patience, gluttony
Gluttony doesn't necessarily refer only to food, but also to intoxicants and the like, which fits Rampage to a T. As for patience, I feel that she's learned that well, being that she has no other choice.
Lacunae - humility, sloth
It was hard to pick both of these for Lac. She seems so passive, just following BJ's lead, that it's hard to get a sense of her own drives -- thus, sloth. Humility doesn't mean having a low opinion of yourself, though Lac does, but rather selflessness and the bravery to take on tasks that are tedious and unglamorous -- which is precisely why she's in the Hoof.
Scotch - diligence, envy
Scotch Tape complains a lot about her place in life. When she gets the crappy (heh) maintenance jobs because she's the newest one on the shift, she complains. She worries about getting a cutie mark that she won't like because of the jobs she's skilled at. She worries about being left behind by the group because of her age. She is defined by her desire for what everyone else has; thus, envy. On the other hoof, when she gets a crappy job, it damn well gets done, doesn't it? She does her job and does it well, and she doesn't give up when it gets unpleasant.
That leaves temperence and greed unassigned. I don't see either one really fitting Styg or Psychoshy, though.
Or Boo.
Edit: *GASP!* What am I doing thinking about this when there's a chapter up? TO THE READMOBILE!

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
- Spoiler:
- Good to see that BJ is in the clear from the get go, pretty much. Good detective work from the ghoul noticing the different types of wounds and methods of attack.
Most would simply assume because BJ was there, she must've done it.
Awwwh, poor BJ being called a freakshow... though it is kinda freaky, having metal legs.
(to normal people, anyway)
o__O Oh god. disgusting. LOL
Dawwww, flutters making a pinkie pie promise is such a cute image in my head.
Rarity was covering it up, of course.
(or, the MoI was, at least)
haahhaha. when I was alive sob story.
bahahahha, Blackjack getting crotch pinched and then even better almost - security whines a ton.
Love it.
BOING?!?
WH...HOW?
Zebra potion? but... she couldn't have all that time? could she?
Fuck boing is tough.
Blackjack is gathering quite the ream now. Glad to hear so! She'll need it.
Somber? I love you. Cerberus is fucking hilarious.
AHHAHAHAHAHHA
Soap and telling another Zebra their accent is terrible. greatness.
Again I will say it - Cerby is amazing.
To be honest - Carrion looking for any clues of a long lost fortune really isn't all that bad a thing.
If he was stealing caps from somepony alive and killing them, sure - evil evil evil. but treasure hunting for something over 200 years ago?
I don't even see a need to forgive that, especially since it was a mob boss.
Interesting scene in the briefing room. As always with your work, I really like it.
Pyscho being arrogant as always, Blackjack doubting herself but then coming up with a plan, feral ghouls galore and a possible encounter with cyberpony, perhaps?
I don't get how Blackjack can raid megamart (bonesaw)'s stock when she's in at the door of the subway.
Is this place -really- that close?
And going to Chapel too? I thought this prison thing was immediate?
Really unclear with all that.
...unknown...its silver spoon, isn't it?
She has to be the one they collected - the feral ghouls listened to her before and it would be like her to whine like she is.
Shears confirmed for snips (or snails) with the premier soul expert.
...going back a second - the fact they have S.S means they must've used Lacunae to teleport (duuh!) and that would explain why/how BJ managed to travel across Equestria with ease and speed.
Plus, if it was only Lacunae and BJ, makes it a whole lot easier on her.
I understand now!
ROUND little ghoul?
Snips snips snips snips snips
Nothing to say about the rarity sequence. Not bad but nothing to say.
Anddddddd 100% confirmed.
Blackjack is too hard on herself.
and you can't blame Shears for not knowing the extent of damage after however many years it'd been.
Or maybe, like I originally said - you are the champion of the stars.
ahahaha, "Nothing can stop.. the smooze"
Epic.
I like this recon armour, friendly thing.
All in all, I liked this chapter. Was absolutely awesome.
Wasn't too long - instead, it felt just right.

If you mean it's inspiration - it's the sneaky suit from Old World Blues.
If you mean how it got to hightower (which I'm sure you don't) - Zebra spy, as mentioned.

@Kipper: (Surgery)
@Sindri: (Littlehorn) Is that so? My memory must be worse than I recall... from what I remember, zebra refugees(?) came towards it, looking for help(?) and the automated defence activated, starting to kill them, one of the zebras in the pile fired the pink cloud and stuff happened, everyone died. That's the patches I recall.
@Jermy: (What to do) Well, unlike my previous suggestion, have a actual one: Start playing DDO :P
@Everypony: (Trigun) Oh, oh, speaking of Trigun, since you won't play my FoE campaign, nor I'm sure if I can manage to finish it, I can go ahead
@Noodle: (Magic) White/green destroy deck (with 3 liquidmetal coatings, and LOTS of disenchants in it) and a white/green moth/lizard tactical strike deck.
@O.Hinds: (Crack ship) Like I mentioned before, P-21 seems to be more ... well, pansexual in my mind for lack of a better word. Unlike Blackjack, he seems to be less "Dat plot..." and actually care (more) for the individual. And tbh, I think he'd be rather reluctant to go near anything that's been stuck inside BJ, since it wouldn't give him happy memories. Plus it'd be a "Oh right, you're done with him now, giving me the leftovers eh?" plus, Styg might be solely straight as said.
@Jule: (P-21) Going with Swicked's comment, I'd not recommend you to read my P-21 side fic... or would I recommend? I'm actually not sure, but it should work to point out P-21 likely has for from "BJ like" thinking, especially about that.

@Night: (Behaving) ... *gigglesnorts and falls over laughing*
@Swicked: (Somber) No, no, no, you're all lucky Somber is not like me xD ... oh goddess, even my own mind got a mindfuck from that ^^'
@Everypony: Derp, it took me 2 pages before I understood a new chapter was out...dammit, now I need to get dressed so I can read the latest chapter... or do I? ...
Skinny reading! ... wait is this even a thing? (and for those wondering: I took a shower, then trailed off, then forgot about it)
Will reply to rest once I'm done with the chapter.

Kim, you really do make me smile, you know that?
By the way - I have been meaning to reply to your last message, I was just busy last night in the RP thread (LOLOLOL) and staying up longer then I'd have preferred to finish that off.
As for today - this chapter as soon as I got home really and now I'm just feeling tired again.
Eugh.
Doesn't help that I'm not sure when I'm working tomorrow, as there's two sets of next week in schedules.

As Swicked noted, I was joking. I don't see any P-21/Styggie on the horizon. And since I'm not someone who goes absolutely batshit at something not syching with my headcanon (or any canon in general), I doubt there's much in your sidefic that would bother me.

This issue is resolved within the chapter itself -.-

edit: so after some speaking with Katarn, a plothole revolving around the disposing of the zebra body came into question.
My personal theory is that once the soul was within the suit, it was possible that it could be removed without exploding, as the soul would be able to stop it.
Even if it did still explode, I reckon the suit would still be fine because of the soul-jar capabilities.
Another theory of mine is that the spy died from the process - her soul went into the suit and her body decomposed and simply fell out of the suit.

The suits explode when the wearer is 'removed'. I assume this is a safety mechanism such that if said wearer was ever discovered (it is an infiltration suit after all), that the wearer could could simply ditch the suit in a sort of suicide bomber attempt. This would probably function the same if the wearer died whilst wearing the suit, in a sort of 'dead man's hand' style. However, having the soul remain in the suit seems to prevent it from detonating, as the wearer would still be considered 'alive' by the suit.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
- Spoiler:
- Chapter 46. The chapter that almost wasn't. Rightio, let's jump in shall we?
"Could I handle a jailbreak?" It might just be the easiest thing you've had to do for the last 20 chapters. I say you get captured and then break out. It'll make the chapter way longer but at least you can cross 'break out of prison' off your to-do list. Right inbetween 'get three boats dropped on me' and 'Styggie'
“Yes. I figured you didn’t.” What? Someone believes BJ for once? Oh, scandal!
"That’s pretty exceptional for a breather.” Could she be considered a breather when she doesn't technically have lungs? But ghouls do... Or maybe it's just a term used to refer to the 'living'. Although that brings up the bigger question of wether or not ghouls are living. What defines living? Questions for another time, I'm sure.
“Three days from now, nopony’s gonna give a fuck. ‘Lip deserves better.” Even though I think I'm missing the point, it is interesting to think about. Everyone always fusses over the victim. What about the person who finds said abomination? If a cop walks into a crazed murder cult with huge piles of gore and monuments to cruelty he/she is expected to continue operating like they were before. Paragons of the law, unwavering and infalible. Load of bolognia.
"She took another long pull on her cigarette and sighed, shaking her head." Took me this long to realize she needs to be breathing in order to pull on a cig. Im so smatr guise!
"I popped out a finger and scratched out a booger, making her squirm in disgust when I flicked it away with a grin. " Blackjack. Classy as fuck.
"Thought it was more merciful to kill kids than let them live in this world." Well, considering what was coming she was probably right. All the kids either died, went into vaults for many years, got ghoulified, or pulled a Final Fantasy 6.
"Suicide. Case… fucking… closed.” Sounds rough man. But geeze, bitter much? It's been 200 years.
“Are you joking or crazy?” Are you Blackjack or Blackjack?
“Keep your eyes out for somepony that can crush a skull with one blow.” Oh man, we have a list of those guys. Two of them are in the party right now!
"It tasted like caramel and was lighter than steel." Mithril? Can't be. Mithril tastes like blueberry. That's why it's so rare. Cyborgs keep eating it all.
"Security Whines A Ton’?" Let's go with that. I like it. It's got a ring to it.
“Oh Maiden of the Stars, why have you cursed me so!?" Oh god. Not the zealot again.
"I shared a scream with a filly who was supposed to be dead." Well. I didn't see that one coming. I'd scream too.
"Life is better than death." Ehh. You'd be surprised.
“Cerberus! I’ve got a mission for you. You’re going to escort Nurse Graves on her expedition.” Robot? Aww yea, robot buddy. Robot people are awesome. Resilient, obedient, and they don't stop and whine when a random limb falls off. Well, this one might. But for the most part robots are good about that.
“Ugh… remind me not to eat soap next time I’m looking to get drunk,” Yeah, I don't understand that. Why was she eating soap. That doesn't get you drunk. Or does it? I'm not testing this out.
“Ave,” True to Caesar.
“Ah. Well, better than a merchant.” Zebras: They don't like Jews.
“Is it just me, or does anyone else find if funny their tribe sounds like a sneeze?” Kinda like how doombunny was the most fear warrior in all of the Equestrian army?
“That actually isn’t a rocket at all; it’s a missile that was fired from Dawn Bay. Shorter range, flat flight path, and more difficult to intercept.” Oh christ, here we fucking go. Hinds just had to jam in the whole missile terminology thing. It doesn't matter. It's shaped like a dick and it makes things explode. Don't violate Kkat's canon, no matter how little it makes sense.
“Right! You’re coming with us. You’re our resident balefire missile specialist.” NEW PARTY MEMBER. What number is she, 14? We are quickly going to surpass FF6 in playable characters at this rate.
"I’d like to offer the assistance of my employee, Carrion.” Aaaand 10. Behold. How many are going to die? At least four. It wouldn't be PH without someone for BJ to angst over.
"Murder. Smuggling. Theft. Vice. He did it all." Must've been a riot at parties. Hell, I bet he threw parties better than Pinkie Pie.
"I had some decent talent." You have 10 people. RAID. I call DPS. Rampage can tank. Whisper can be the healer.
"If Celestia were the sun and Luna the moon, Lacunae could be sunrise and sunset." This needs art. The beauty must be shared.
"Twilight cannot assert herself or threaten Trixie’s domination.” An interesting interpretation of one of the most powerful beings on the planet.
“I believe one thing, however. She can do better.” But she won't. She won't last that long. Those last 30 odd minutes are going to be really interesting for Lacunae.
"I know it’s an irradiated fortress filled with automated defenses, feral glowing ghouls, deadly radiation, and soul sapping Enervation" Average day at the office for BJ and Co. You really can't give them a break can you Somber?
“We were over capacity. Around three thousand.” This is going to suuuuuuck. Might as well just leave the potions here. If you survive, you'll have potions for when you hobble back out.
"These talismans will ward off the Enervation for several hours." No way it's that easy.
"She glared and jabbed her pinions at me." Feather terminology. Fancy.
"give up the idea that I would ever find out what Horizons was or what Goldenblood had planned to do with it." You had the ability to find out what PH is and what it does. But you threw it away. Because you are a pussy.
“That ‘crazy idea’ look that means peeling ghouls and wearing their skins or something like that,” Ghoul mask. Best item ever.
"Like… glue. But in ghouls it’s much weaker.” But, ponies are made of glue. Kinda. They are made of glue materials. That kinda counts right?
“Fragment of a soul? You mean souls can break?” Not this shit again. Souls... such a load of hooey.
“Because I am Equestria’s premiere expert on souls.” How can you be an expert on something that doesn't exist. Oh wait, we have the pope. Nevermind. At least in FOE we have evidence of souls existing.
"The two tumbled down into the filthy frothing pool, disappearing from sight!" welp. There goes Styggie. That means the spots for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best pony are open once again.
"Shears had pulled from his robe a pair of large, wicked-looking magic-powered hedge trimmers." Now see, that is what I like about zombies. There are so many ways to kill them, so long as you destroy the head. Even a keyboard can be used, if it comes down to it.
"I took a deep breath and bellowed as loudly as I could, “Spoon!”" Oh no. Not this bitch again.
"I was astonished to see red bars turning blue." wat. I forgot Spoony could do that. Crazy ho.
“Quartz?” I frowned." As much as I like exposition, you are kinda on a timer here Blackjack. Only so much radaway exists in the world.
"Unseal Project Eternity: Y/N?" WHAT. DO IT. OH MY GOD DO IT.
"Vaguely disappointed, I sighed and then hit the ‘Y’ button on the terminal." https://i.imgur.com/HMYRg.jpg
"There was a little business I had to take care of in Zebratown… nothing major,” If by major you mean finding one evil fucking book.
"I’ve been particularly intrigued by zebra myths of ‘soul silk’, capable of being stronger than steel." Welp. BJ ate a soul. It tasted like Caramel. Poor guy, never could figure out what gender he wanted to be.
“I need to do something myself. Something to save my friends…” And thus begins the journey of Projekt Eternity. Dun dun duuuuun.
"But Rarity needed us and she had a way of wrapping any stallion around her hoof." Yep. Snips. This aughta lead to interesting places.
"It thrust out two hooves towards me and a dripping equine head emerged." Slime monster! I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going. Better run, Blackjack!
"they passed halfway through its body and then disappeared with an acidic hiss." Oh geeze, don't want to get touched by whatever the hell that thing is. It's someones fetish somewhere though.
"My legs might have been metal, but the enchantments on them made them feel fiery pain as if I’d shoved them into boiling water." Why were you programmed to feel pain? What kind of sadistic bastard would do such a thing?
"The immense mound formed a huge, dripping maw that reached up to devour them both in its acidic cavity." The wasteland is full of surprises. I say we just drop the moon on it and hope for the best.
"The purple light of her shield flickered and disappeared as I stared." Welp. There goes our battlemage.
“there’s gonna be unknown stuff to deal with.” It only gets worse from here. This is going to end up being Super Canterlot, isn't it? Joy.
“Smooze?” You wish.
“I really hate to break up this latest installment of ‘What the fuck, Blackjack,’" Aww shit. It's my favorite show. A testament to schadenfreude if there ever was one.
"I wasn’t the Goodiest goodest pony in the Wasteland..." If she keeps trying to live up to that standard she is going to come crashing down so hard it'll make the Eater of Souls' enterance look like a raindrop in the ocean. And it'll be amazing to watch.
"Virtues were supposed to be like cutie marks... but I had no idea what mine was." Generosity. If it isn't, I'll be very dissapointed. So who would be magic? Rampage? Lacunae? Puppysmiles?
"I actually stopped P-21 from killing the bastards that raped and mutilated me. And then I’d died…" It was a busy day. But overall, an average day for the wasteland. Rape, mutilation and murder. What isn't normal is coming back.
“Have you ever heard of a soul jar?” Are we about to find the last figurine? Thank god, BJ needs all the luck she can get.
“Put it back! Put her soul back! There must be a way to put it back!” Ohohoho. And now the consequences come to light. Sure, you can make indestructable items to protect everyone, but at what cost? Is it worth it? Hells yeah. Imagine those bullets!
"Carrion had a teddy bear latched onto his face that seemed to be trying to crush his skull." This might be the greatest room of all time.
"I looked at the sword, and then a manic grin spread across my face as I sliced it at the cowpony hat" Oh god. Blackjack has gone into shooty mode. But with less bullets and more slicing.
“That’s all. You’re my best friend forever. Sneaking now, shhhhhh,” Please no. Nonononono. I fucking hate that suit of armor. It never shut the hell up. Why would you bring that abomination into this sacred place? Why Somber, why?
“Okay! Which way up?” Oh, I don't know. Maybe, UP?
“Welcome to the Tower!” THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME.
Kk, chapter done. Next plz?
Tons of fun!

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I am a bad person because I laughed at Jermeyrush very horrible joke about Zebra tribes.
OAN, the Steath suit, the reason why it's not self destructing is simple, it's a soul jar... by definition it's invulnerable to conventional attack, unless the explosives were balefire I'm guessing they did explode but the suit was a soul jar and laughed it off. And I don't think the explosives were equivalent to a two hundred kilo bomb. If you want a self destructing suit you put in a few ounces of a mixable burn agent at the corners and when you mess up removing the suit it goes woosh, either that or it has a magical power source that goes woosh and possibly kaboom when tampered with.

Thanks Jermy, I was starting to get really low since there was more talk about the suit than the chapter. Just need to learn to be more patient. In any case...
Putting the zebra soul in the stealth suit basically tricked the self destruct system into believing it hadn't been removed. Then Rarity tried to alter it and make it more user friendly, with minimal success.

Oy Somber should not the other... 44 chapters have taught you don't expect well reasoned and insightful commentary until at least twenty four hours have passed?Somber wrote:Thanks Jermy, I was starting to get really low since there was more talk about the suit than the chapter. Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Yes, but I imagine that Snips's price is quite high. Sure, he could have made a fortune, Blackjack found him in the Mortuary; for one reason or another, he didn't want to, it seems. And, while he may have sold a few others over the decades, I'd imagine that their owners aren't talking about them. Would you tell the Wasteland "I have with me an incredibly rare talisman that allows me to pretty much ignore Enervation and thus get with little opposition some of the best salvage out there"? Snips might also not want it known so that powerful individuals don't seek him out for his knowledge.Cptadder wrote:Everyone has a price, if not in caps then in lives or ideals and a enervation protection talisman is right up there with bullets of dragon slaying as a high valued item.O. And they were going specifically to collect a Glowing One, so getting enough radiation to head back, even with an extra passenger, would be no trouble.Kippershy wrote:...going back a second - the fact they have S.S means they must've used Lacunae to teleport (duuh!) and that would explain why/how BJ managed to travel across Equestria with ease and speed.
Plus, if it was only Lacunae and BJ, makes it a whole lot easier on her.
I understand now!
Aye. I love that suit; my first NV character blew Lanius's head off while wearing it. It goes really well with the Hazmat Darklight Cowl, too. Sadly, it's fallen a bit behind; my characters since then have used either light armor with the perks that allows or the Elite Riot Gear.Kippershy wrote:If you mean it's inspiration - it's the sneaky suit from Old World Blues.
If you're the GM, it might not end that badly for the players. One time, the GM of a game I'm in was rather tired and out of it… and we were able to convince an NPC to give us, for free, three prototype military stealth attack/transport ornithopters.WavemasterRyx wrote:Hah... oh man... I probably shouldn't have stayed up so late when I needed to be awake for D&D in a few hours... but taking time to read PH is always worth it.
My party will be fine, it isn't like I'll get them all horribly killed... probably.
