Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Inuyasha and DBZ are your standard shonen, if in the better end or the category. Amusing as they are, they have very little thought or complexity, and if somebody's had a bad impression of anime in the past it's almost certainly with these or shows just like them.jacky2734 wrote:Sindri wrote:

What was wrong with episode 4?
Also you forgot, Inyuyasha, YuYuhakusho, the original DBZ, and FLCL.
Foolie Coolie is something that should be sprung on nobody unawares. I use it the same way Gainax originally intended: recovery after the End of Evangellion.
Never seen YuYhakusho... will be looking it up shortly.
Episode 4 of Gurren Lagann had a different director from the previous episodes. And writer. And animator. The day after it aired, all of them were fired from Studio Gainax. It is very clear why.

Still, what was wrong with Episode 4 of TTGL? I can't even remember which one that was.

A few ways of spending time for the sake of spending time:
-Make jam.
-Build anything useful, or not useful, if you want.
-Make a fire. Bigger. Bigger. Bigger.
-Play Star Wars Battlefront 2, it certainly drains time.
Battlefield BC2/3 work for that as well.
-Build an MTG deck.
-Re-watch MLP.
-Read Wikipedia.
-Clean up, if you are really bored. Can be quite fulfilling, actually.
-Hammock.
-Tinker with old electronics.
-Gardening.
-Browse Ebay for cool stuff you'd never need.
-Movie marathon. LoTR, anyone?

I like Bebop (never watched One Piece; by the time I had the unfettered internet access required to watch a version of it that wasn't 4kids, I had little enough free time that the episode count turned me away). But we're back to that mundane shonen fare, which seems like exactly the wrong thing to recommend here.jacky2734 wrote:And what about Cowboy Bebop, or One Piece?

There's always Planetes. The last two episodes bog down a bit, I feel, but most of them are quite good.

Sorry, answered in an edit. Long story short, the fourth episode had a different director, who brought his own writer and animator. All of them were fired the day after it went on the air. The art is hideous, the dialogue is idiotic, the plot is possibly even stupider, everyone is completely out of character... it's best to just skip the episode, especially if you're three episodes into the series and not sure about continuing, because later episodes are pure distilled awesome, and that one is enough to convince most semi-rational people to stop watching.jacky2734 wrote:Still haven't answered my question. The question being, why were they fired when the public saw it instead of when the producer saw it?Sindri wrote:Sorry, answered in an edit. Are all of you anime freaks? What in the world is going on.
I don't think I was clear enough in my last post. I don't like anime. People have tried to get me to watch multiple different series. Every time, the same reaction. They still haven't learned.
I guess the real reason is that I just don't like shows. The format is awkward and the dialog in almost anything makes me cringe. I can barely even watch MLP.
So, thanks but no thanks.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Well, as it's no longer 4:30 in the morning, my idea seems to have lost most of its "this is a great idea"... but I suppose I'll ask anyways. Something to add on to the paradox stuff and anime discussions.
So... If you were to assign the ponies in Blackjack's party to the 7 virtues and the 7 sins - how would you arrange them? Yes, I wanted to ask this simply for people to discuss, and not for any other reason.
Any of the Miyazaki films are nice too, Princess Mononoki (best if you watch it subtitled though), Spirited Away, or Howl's Moving Castle are all splendid choices.
FLCL is indeed quite an odd but good show, I never understood how people got so confused by it though, it actually seemed pretty clear to me.

temperance <> gluttony
charity <> greed
diligence <> sloth
patience <> wrath
kindness <> envy
humility <> pride

You'd want to open one door to get Cake for Boo, and another to find Boo. The trick is avoiding Psychoshy.WavemasterRyx wrote:.Oh oh, what about this one: There's three doors, behind them are Boo, Cake, and Psychoshy. Then what do you do?Cptadder wrote:Ahh the classic Monty Hall paradox.

I inform the world at large that I have to much cake and listen to hear which door thuds with the sound of a small pony body trying to open. I then insult Sanguine to listen for the door with the swearing then knowing which doors to open I open the cake door then the Boo door... and then drop a safe in front of the Psychoshy door.WavemasterRyx wrote:Oh oh, what about this one: There's three doors, behind them are Boo, Cake, and Psychoshy. On an unrelated note, I also recommend One Piece but watch it subbed not dubbed and get an episode guide so you can identify the many filler arcs and skip all of them except for the G-8 arc which is pretty good compared to the useless time wasters that are the rest of the filler arcs.
On a related note, Fun Fact:One piece is considered a kids anime despite things like Episode 12 and 37.

Hmm, this is interesting. This is what my brain, which is in much need of sleep right now, has come up with. I may add more as I think of more, then post the completed version later, but for now before I go to sleep:
-chastity <> lust-Deus
-temperance <> gluttony-Horse
Silver Stripe-charity <> greed-Overmare of Stable 99
Goldenblood-diligence <> sloth-
Dealer-patience <> wrath-Steel Rain
Glory-kindness <> envy-
-humility <> pride-Stronghoof
(God, the sins are so much easier. PH truly is a world of the lesser of two evils. I've probably also got something wrong, or that someone else would better fit one of the roles, or someone could be moved somewhere else, etc, etc. If anyone wants to dispute any of my current choices, go right ahead.)

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I really just enjoy watching anime with friends, so that the moments of horribad dialogue or "wacky" overreactions that happen every 30 seconds if I'm extra unlucky can be laughed off, and the fun parts can then be enjoyed. The one exception to this was Gurren Lagann - that mess is hilarious and awesome and ridiculously stupid. Fortunately, it knows about the latter and makes very few attempts to pretend otherwise. Thus, the things that normally irritate me about a lot of anime come off as Gurren Lagann being stupid and ridiculous, rather than a failure of writing (or just some cultural thing that I really can't appreciate).Jeremyrush wrote:Are all of you anime freaks? But yeah, I would not say that I'm an anime freak. Except for Miyazaki, I don't actively seek it out. I know there are some really great moments in 'em that I miss out on, but even shows that I truly enjoyed (FMA) just got grating after too much exposure.
@Ryx
Blackjack, Lacunae, Rampage, Boo, Scotch, P-21, Glory. 7 Ponies, 7 Virtues, 7 Sins.
P-21 - chastity <> lust - Blackjack (Not just for the sex parts - this can be for lusting after all sorts of stuff, right?)
Boo - temperance <> gluttony - Boo (We've gotta admit it - she's got a two-track mind: cake and Blackjack)
Blackjack - charity <> greed - Scotch (Does a desire for proper plumbing count as greed?)
Scotch - diligence <> sloth - Glory (After she lost her wing... :( )
Glory - patience <> wrath - P-21 (Mostly for the earlier P-21)
Rampage - kindness <> envy - Rampage (envying the dead?)
Lacunae - humility <> pride - Lacunae (as the Goddess - cheating?)
I'm not sure how well I like this list, but it's a start.
@Admiral Rum
High five, woo!
