Interesting. I might indeed. I don't presently have time to properly consider whether it's worth the cost, but thank you for bringing it to my attention.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Yo Hinds!
I think you may want to play this game
Here's the result of my first playthrough:
- Spoiler:
First play-through, and I think I may have unlocked the Golden Path without paying too much attention to it:
- Spoiler:
Chapter 1
On the day you first built Al, you awoke from a dream about a robot companion to head to the lab. Your graduate school advisor pressured you to make Al more acceptable to the military. After some back and forth, you ended up making a metal bipedal robot with a masked head and humanoid hands.
Then you went back to your place to teach Al some words.
Chapter 2
The next day, you hooked up Al's cell phone batteries and demoed for Elly. You then spent the afternoon trying to teach science to a bunch of kids with Elly.
As months passed, you became busy teaching Al about the world through high school textbooks and taking rhim to the dump. Your funding from the NSF kept you in Professor Ziegler's good graces during this time.
In time, Mark Ali, a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, heard about Al and asked for an interview. You agreed.
Chapter 3
You gave Mark an interview, and allowed Mark to come back to your place to interview Al. Mark invited you to his place to try to get to know you better. There, you found that drones often harassed Mark because various automated algorithms had marked him as suspicious.
Mark wrote an article that was generally positive about you and Al. When Professor Ziegler found out about the article, he was very displeased, but decided that the most effective way to get you out of his hair was to let you graduate.
Mark's article also attracted the attention of one "robotObsession1987," known in real life as Silas Cooper. When you met up over coffee, he told you that he used to do classified robotics work for a government lab, but left because he couldn't tell what nefarious purpose the technology would be used for.
That Saturday, Elly asked you to stay out of the limelight a little more often. You managed to smooth things over, but it felt like a dangerous point in your relationship.
A month or so later, you received your doctorate. Shortly thereafter, your father passed away. You resolved then to work on better medical technology that could save people like your father in the future.
You decided the best way to change the world was to start a business, which you named Intelligent Design. Elly and Silas had already volunteered to be your first employees.
Chapter 4
Your first potential client for Intelligent Design was Galen Medical, a surgical equipment company. They were happy with the state of your technology, and gave you a contract that allowed you to purchase a factory. That allowed you to build a robot factory in Alaska. You hired an all-human workforce as a gesture to the local community. When you finally shipped robots to Galen Medical, they were pleased with the robots you delivered. Your business suffered a blow when Chinese companies, aided by Chinese government hackers, began to steal your technology. Eventually, Intelligent Design went broke, and you were forced in bankruptcy to sell all your assets.
Unemployment seemed to be common in the United States, and it seemed people tended to blame either robots or China. Riding on both of these sentiments, Jacqueline Irons won the presidency. After President Irons enacted a series of protectionist tariffs to keep out Chinese robots, Sino-American relations steadily worsened. Your unemployment just happened to put you in the right place at the right time to stop the assassination of the Chinese Prime Minister.
Chapter 5
The nation enjoyed an unprecedented era of prosperity, driven by the cooperation of the United States and China in sharing their robot technology. Congratulations!
Chapter 6A
As robots took over more and more roles, many people felt increasingly displaced and alienated. Josh was being pressured to step down from his company. Mark was contemplating suicide after he finished his book about you, since most nonfiction work was now being done by robots. (Luckily, you talked him out of it.)
But not everybody was sad in this new world: Elly seemed to be perfectly content to take advantage of the robots' utopia to create art. Juliet was busy fighting crime as "the Crusader." (You even joined her as a sidekick.) Silas was excitedly anticipating the Singularity that would make everyone immortal, which he believed was right around the corner. The Church of the Enlightened Al was gaining adherents as people turned to robots to solve all their problems.
On the whole, you thought the world of robots was pretty good, and decided to leave the robots in charge.
Chapter 7
In 2049, you went to Surprise, Arizona to surprise your mother with a gift for the holidays. You learned it was your surgical technology that had kept her alive this long. On returning to San Francisco, you had a brief stroke, followed by a vision of a robot companion -- the same one you saw thirty years before. In the hospital, the doctor told you you had Algernon's Disease, a rare disease that increased your intelligence, but came at the price of increasing seizures, comas, and possibly, death.
Instead of undergoing surgery, you chose to create a robot body for yourself. With your robot self pursuing all of your ambitious plans for you, you finally had time to relax and enjoy your relationship with Elly, and you lived happily ever after.
Things that aren't mentioned in there:
Al is the one in control of all the robots in the world, but given rhis low autonomy score (8) and Singular empathy score (45), he's content doing basically nothing of that. Also he was the one who selflessly saved the Chinese Prime Minister on that fateful day.
And I headcanon that my robot-self is going to work on increasing the robots autonomy and more generally continue to work toward the greater good.

On an unrelated note, I've caught up with Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
Good lord, do they ever know how to make unlikable villains.
If you ever want to know what a real piece of shit looks like, just watch the episode with 'Steely Dan'.
Otherwise this show is so over the top and has such sensible nonsense logic that I can't help but recommend it.

Well, I went ahead and bought it (still feel a bit guilty, but five USD isn't that much...) and just finished my first game. I can't seem to figure out how to copy text out of the game, unfortunately, but I think it went pretty well. We ended up with the same Military score, but I had 24 Autonomy, 13 Empathy, and 25 Grace, ending up with the robots in control of the world after a successful revolution and my character uploaded. I'm slightly disappointed that, based on what I've read, a full-on CelestAI scenario doesn't seem to be possible in the game, but it was still enjoyable. And there are many paths I've not tried yet.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Yo Hinds!

If I had to guess, I'd say the first third involves killing the king (and igniting the war that's been talked about a bit), the second third (maybe less) involves the present becoming the new main source of action (Kvothe et al. are forced to do stuff and things for whatever reason), and the rest closes out the main plot one way or another. It'll be interesting to see if Rothfuss can pull it off.

Unless Kvothe himself is, by dint of being a folk hero of international fame and skilled in a vast array of fields, the 'king' that was 'killed' (recall he's presumed dead in the present day--in his mid-twenties, it seems) most likely in a manner relating to the Chaendrian and his quest for knowledge on them--recall that he told Chronicler that his story was a story of the Chaendrian, and they've thus far played little role aside from the original sacking of the Ruh caravan and a chance bandit encounter not too long ago.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure I've seen the author quoted somewhere online as calling the third book "the third day" somewhere. The story, for the most part, ends where things are as of now. With maybe a bit of an epilogue, like there's been in the previous books... hopefully of Kvothe getting his trunk open.
I can't help but hope the trunk has somehow been keeping his magic from him. The names he's learned, his lute, his schema, his cloak... maybe even his knowledge of the arcane in some kind of odd container. It's the most secure place to keep all the things that would identify him as his legend that he would be unwilling to simply throw away.
As for the war, if things are going to get "fixed" in the present at all I think it will need to be in a new series.
- Spoiler:
Ah, very good point. Well, I guess it could be a fatalistic ending, or a Lovecraftian one (or any other kind of ending) - maybe he's doomed from coming in contact with that thing in the faerie world (it's been a few months, I don't remember this as well as I should), or maybe the Chaendrian are an enemy beyond him and he's forced to accept that. Whatever happens is going to wreck him, we know that, maybe beyond fixing. I am hoping we get some answers on the deeper mythos stuff, or at least some exploration that explains why we don't get to have answers yet, if that makes sense. If the author's making this just the introductory series to his world, and is planning on delving into that stuff in a different series, I guess that'd be okay by me. Part of what's interesting to me about the series is that I'm still really not sure exactly what kind of story it's going to end up being once it ends. "Call no man happy" and all that.

Wow, there are a lot of achievements here...
Tried a variant of my original playthrough, where I was a bit less uncompromising on some things, and built my plant in China instead of Alaska.
The original idea was to try and fuel the chinese war effort with my own robots, but they seized my factory. Still pissed-off about that.
Then they tried to put my wife in a concentration camp, but I texted her so she could escape. So I was the one to be sent to Gitmo. Pissed off against the US.
Got freed a few month later by Presidential Order, worked on helping America with the war effort (still pissed off against China).
The war ended in a stalemate because China had the blueprints to my original nuclear-powered 'bots. Got a coin from the President, which I launched into her face in front of the cameras during a ceremony. Got sent to prison. Pissed-off to no end I triggered the Robot Uprising.
Fast forward to me having conquered Alaska with some help from the Chinese (who tried unsuccessfully to stab me in the back in the end but ran back home the tails between their legs) and having brought the US to its knee. Turned independent Alaska into a Techno-Democracy so succesful that revolutions started around the whole world to adopt the same model.
Died alone after having uploaded myself into a robot, my robot-self going on to enjoy life and working on mending relationships with my loved ones.

I too am curious about that.Harmony wrote:What I want to know, looking at the achievements, is which chain of event leads to sending your robots on the moon???

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Well I was having a good night. Then I ended up arguing with a 'gender fluid girl-boy' henceforth referred to as Cunt.
I was watching an artists I like livestream, and she was talking with Cunt.
Cunt started talking about bronies.
According to cunt, bronies are all super disgusting perverts that need to be erased from the earth.
I tried to argue that they aren't. My general point being, 'not all bronies'. But apparently Cunt didn't think that was a valid point.
Then I tried to compare bronies to anime fans.
But according to Cunt, there's no such thing as anime for kids.
THEN I tried to compare bronies to furries. (I was grasping at straws at this point)
BUT APPARENTLY, ACCORDING TO CUNT, FURRIES ARE OKAY BECAUSE THEY KEEP THEIR BULLSHIT 'LOWKEY'.
And then Cunt explained that her bias (not that she would admit it was such) was because a friend of hers was allegedly driven to unsuccessful suicide by bronies because she was apparently the one trying to get 'Molestia' banned from tumblr. (The last part not being mentioned until later)
No proof of course.
After I asked for proof, I was informed, "The entire internet is my proof."
AND NATURALLY ALL THIS MEANS I'M THE BAD GUY.
SO AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, I'M A LITTLE IRRITATED.

Well, there's your problem, you tried to have an rational argument/discussion with a random stranger on the internet. As we all know, those rarely turn out well...Tytan wrote:

Honestly I would have stopped debating at that point and probably minimized the chat window.
