Funnily enough, now that I've suscribed to his Tumblr, I'm seeing recommendations for Hotline Miami fandom blogs on my dash.

Is this time for a "Hades Appreciation Group"?
Huh. I'll need to read a bit on my greek mythology, to see if it'd be fair to say that Hades is an under-appreciated deity.

Particularly since newer movies portray him as some sort of villain rather than the necessary evil (who, mind you, didn't really go around raping people like Zeus or Poseidon did)

In fact, reading up on him on Wikipedia, he's not even "evil", from what I read:
He's not even the one killing people, he's simply doing a public service ensuring those who have passed away don't interfere with the world of the living, acting as a Warden.
He almost never leaves his domain, and you can hardly keep the Persephone thing against him, when Zeus is considered a good guy.
translated from the french wikipedia article wrote:King of the Dead, his primary mission is to keep them from leaving [the Hells], as their view would fill with terror mortals and gods alike.

Although his Attribute is to have the ability to be invisible to mortals and gods alike, the same way Zeus is the Master of Lightning; so maybe you could choose to interpret that he could be up to a lot of shady shit without anyone ever realizing?

Alternate theory: he does not exist.Â
"Yeah, ghosts, there's totally a Warden. Try to leave, I dare you."
"Well of course you don't see him. He's invisible."

That awkward moment when an actual God is making up religions to keep people in line.

Huh, isn't that rather what they're expected to do? Like, actually religious teachings being gods way of having people act in the way they desire?

Touché.
Even more a religion made up by gods with their own cults to convince mortals of venerating another, non-existing god.
Although it is noted on wikipedia that the cult of Hadès was, for all intent and purpose, non-existent. It is a god that didn't have a cult.
So, make of that what you want....

In terms of the Elder Scrolls franchise's inspirations from various mythologies for their own Aedric/Daedric pantheons, I believe:Â
Hacate inspired Nocturnal
Artemis and Apollo both inspired Hircine, though Apollo more heavily influenced Auri-El.Â
Satan, naturally, inspired both Mehrunes Dagon and Molag Bal, in different ways.Â
Hercules, primarily (though also other mortal-born revered/semi-divine figures like Perseus and Achilles) inspired Hjalti Early-Beard/Talos Stormcrown/Tiber Septim (as did Julius Caesar, though he's not quite a mythological figure).

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
To choose a fictional example, Dragon Age sorta fits this. Sorta. Like, the Golden City (Heaven) exists as a place in the Fade, but beyond that, there's never any actual evidence saying that the Maker exists outside what the Chantry says. Furthermore, events in the games have repeatedly shown that the Chant of Light is at the very least wrong in several places, as well as actively edited and manipulated to fit political ideology. The Maker's Joan of Arc Jesus is a bit more substantive, with in-game evidence suggesting that she was at least very special, godly or otherwise. According to at least one source, Andraste was just a very powerful mage.Mister Frost wrote:But it's fairly rare to feature religions with made-up gods in settings with completely not-made-up godsHarmony Ltd. wrote:Huh, isn't that rather what they're expected to do? By contrast, the Old Gods are very real (though, of course, the Chantry says they aren't really gods). There's also some very strong evidence in Inquisition that the Elven gods are real. However, according to their mythology, the Elven pantheon was imprisoned by one of their number.
So you have a possibly fake god with a sorta maybe real prophet in the same setting as the very real dragon gods which are responsible for a good 70% of the shit in the world and a smattering of Elf gods who are mostly imprisoned. And all of that is extremely ambiguous and open to player interpretation.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I take it you're the resident DA nerd much as I'm the resident ES.....expert.Â
How ES's cosmology works is quite interesting. The Aedra (or Divines) gave up most of their power to create the Mundas, or physical world, limiting their influence on it to giving blessings and insights and such--and binding their forms to their respective planes of existence. Mortal minds perceive these infinite planes as mere spheres, seen as planets. The infinite planes of Oblivion, unbound to any Divine will, are seen as the infinite blackness of space. The sun and stars are holes punched clean through Oblivion and into Aetherius beyond by Magnus and his followers, who fled the creation of the world when they realized that they would have to bind themselves to it.
As the blessings of the Aedra (and the followers, power, and occasional manifestations of the Daedra) are unquestionably real, more of the debate goes into their nature--their origins of having sprung from the mixed blood of the warring souls of the cosmic forces of change and stasis (who in turn birthed their own souls in the form of the God who would later be chief in creating the mortal world (and being slain by an ascended mortal ]who are themselves the descendants of Aedric beings....maybe] for it; and the God of Time)
The Lorkhan, the God who was slain, was then "mantled" (his power and place taken and filled) by a mortal who then became known as Talos.....maybe.Â
And the God of time may or may not be the source of all Dovah, immortal dragons that exist to devour the world at the end of each cycle so it can be reborn. Maybe.Â
Yeah, it's that kind of franchise.

This, so much this. God. iTunes made me do like three of them, just so I could have the privilege of spending gift cards on subpar-quality music in an annoying format. They make so little sense to me, and they're a huge pain.

I agree in that the only logical use that I can see for security questions is for password recovery purposes. I suppose the idea behind using questions instead of a second password is that the questions are supposed to be things that only you can answer (Asking questions like "What's your maiden name?" is indeed very stupid. Better that we be allowed to make our own) and, more importantly, don't require any thought to remember (They're short and simple). If you lie about them then chances are you'll end up forgetting what you wrote down when you get locked out a year later.
Ideally, passwords should be long confusing strings (Or so we've been trained to believe) so that they cannot be brute forced. Trouble is, that makes them easy to forget, and thus why short security questions can come in handy. The critical point is that unlike regular passwords, you shouldn't be allowed to guess more than once for security questions as they'd be far more susceptible to brute forcing (Hence why they're not used as primary passwords since you can guess more than once for those).
You're right though in that security questions should always be optional. I can see why it'd be irritating to have to fill them out, especially if you don't want to leave a potential security hole. As someone who's had their ass saved by security questions, however, I can appreciate their values.
Now, you know what really grinds my gears? Getting an IPS monitor that blueshifts when you look at it at an angle, thus defeating the whole purpose of getting an IPS monitor.

What is your mother's maiden name
...you mean my adoptive mother, biological mother or role play mother?
I tend to give really obscure answers, more to screw with myself than would-be hackers

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I personally think they should just replace passwords with a syringe system installed into computer interfaces, so as to take a DNA sample. Naturally, this takes far, far more blood than actually necessary to verify identity. No more tiny, shrivelled little children or weak, insular shut-ins to overrun our favorite websites. Logging in requires braving pain, braving fear, and sacrificing your flesh and blood to the machine.

Hmm, now that was an interesting Genesis story as told by Pokémon...

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Had my deck nerfed in Hearthstone a while ago, it's not that big a deal as I put no money into the game really it's just a fun distraction every now and then. Though it made me curious does anyone that plays the game and only puts a couple bucks into it once and a while feel they're rewarded for doing so?
I've been thinking that when it comes to the nerfs the only way to enjoy the game is by playing it the way I have (Not investing into the game at all) or by owning so many cards that when a nerf is rolled out you can just construct a new deck.
