Well, I've "upgraded" away my ability to play New Vegas, among other things. Hopefully the wrapper will get an update...
Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that I'd have to change eventually, either to a newer Mac OS or, as a friend of mine keeps recommending, Linux, I'd just have stayed with Snow Leopard and, at least in my current mood, merely turned up my nose at software that thought it was too good for such a fine operating system.
Well, at least I've already moved from "depressed by the update" to "very very annoyed by the update". Progress towards eventually accepting it.

I think I've already reached the last stage there regarding OSY. But it's totally not because I've developed Stockholm's syndrome towards it. Really! I mean, it's just... it's not that bad! ..Right?O. Hinds wrote:Well, I've "upgraded" away my ability to play New Vegas, among other things. Hopefully the wrapper will get an update...

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Just watched a video in which this lady talked about diversity and how pushing for it could just make the problem swing in the other direction. Basically lots of male characters women (apparently) can't relate to could become lots of female characters men (apparently) can't relate to. I agree to a very small extent, I think diversity or pushing for it in media could possibly result in some kind of quota, essentially we could get minority characters who's only characteristics are being minorities. Instead of being created because the creator had an idea for a character they thought was good they created them to round out a number.
Of course if this were the case a man would have a very hard time relating to a female character who's only character trait was that they were female, the opposite I'd imagine would also be true.
It just seems off to me to suggest men or woman couldn't relate to male or female characters. Same goes for race and sexuality, and if they can what's so important about diversity in media? Beyond having different kinds of characters so things don't get boring.

I would be more inclined to think that your audience not identifying with your characters simply because it is of a different gender or race is more indicative of your own abilities as a writer and storyteller or of the readers own frame of mind than of any real sociological problem.Last wrote:It just seems off to me to suggest men or woman couldn't relate to male or female characters. 30 lashes to Swicked for borderline Harmony Theory spoilers (I did check in on this thread from time to time, you know. Now I can't go back and actually catch up on stuff without my eye catching too much and sending my mind places when I finally get to reading that chapter), and 200 lashes to Vinylshadow for OR/AS spoilers (I haven't had the chance to play the damn game yet) and Memory Pending/Forgiveness Pending spoilers (I've read the story, but others might not have, and that ending part you gave away is pretty critical), and also...
Which version did you upgrade to? Mavericks or Yosemite?O. Hinds wrote:Well, I've "upgraded" away my ability to play New Vegas, among other things. Hopefully the wrapper will get an update...

It's starting to get a little crazy. Yesterday I was filling up my truck just enough so that I could make it to a party and back. I momentarily mixed up which set of numbers was gallons and which was how much I was paying.

I agree with that. Not to say this is what you were getting at but the conclusion I'm coming to at the moment is the people who push for diversity in games (and more broadly media) and suggest that idea must be borderline obsessed with that specific aspect of themselves.
@Robo You, I, Guard and Moody should battle in X and Y again. As far as the gas goes I'm pretty sure that's a mental disorder.

Around my base, Gasoline (SP95-E10) is around €1.18/L / US$5.44/Gallon. It cost €0.10-0.20 more a few weeks ago. That was quite a price drop.
Back home, gasoline is more around €1.30/L / US$5.99/Gallon currently.
(1 Gallon = 3.78 Litre ; US$1 = €0.81 / €1 = US$1.22)

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Played Ground Zeroes, I feel really bad for the people who paid full price for this. I have't played every MGS game either, but the ones that I have played follow a formula.
1) Go out on your first mission
2) Do well
3) Get fucked over at the end
4) Regroup, Retry, Kickass
Seems like they cut the first mission where you get fucked over at the end out of the game and sold it seperately. Though it's not bad for $7 though I can't really understand why they changed Snake's VA and left everyone else as is.

Yosemite. I thought that getting the latest version would be best, since I then could expect to go the longest without “upgrading” again. I also wasn’t sure if it would still be possible to move to Mavericks, since Yosemite was out.“RoboRed” wrote:Which version did you upgrade to? Mavericks or Yosemite?

I suppose there's gotta be a way to downgrade somehow, but I dunno. My foray into Mac-dom has only been recent. Oh, yes, I could downgrade (though the longer I use it, the more difficult that gets). The problem is that then I’d still have to update eventually.“RoboRed” wrote:I suppose there's gotta be a way to downgrade somehow, but I dunno. My foray into Mac-dom has only been recent. As for no one you know locally having problems, well, Yosemite, from what I’ve seen, isn’t a bad OS. It’s just worse than Snow Leopard in several ways, and some of those are a bit esoteric anyway.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I think the biggest problem I've had with it is the imparted performance hit. Compared to 10.6 on my computer, Yosemite runs considerably slower. I mean, fair enough, the Mac I have is a almost four years old now, but the disparity in performance between the two OS's has gotten fairly substantial. I've found that disabling memory compression has helped matters somewhat, but features such as this were supposed to improve performance, not degrade it.
Yosemite also suffers from some other major bugs, chiefly among these being that it doesn't seem to like restoring from hibernation if the battery runs out anymore; On startup the computer will just get a kernal panic and reboot. This is probably the only new problem that Mavericks didn't have, though.
Problems like this aside though, it does seem to work reasonably well at least. Not a huge fan of the new icon style mimicing the flat design of iOS, but I suppose you get used to such small minutiae over time.
