Ah, thank you.SilentCarto wrote:All right! Finally have all my other commitments out of the way and a nice chunk of time to dedicate to this.
Let's rock!
- Execute Order 66:
Oh my. That's an... interesting... chapter quote.“Well, there's something here about a dragon, the kingdom falling, chaos reigning... Okay, apparently it was all because the prince and princess were so lost in each other's eyes that they couldn't perform their royal duties.”Oh. Charm. Okay, reevaluating previous statements. But because she loved him, she believed him, and so she asked that she should someday rule the Society.Has Charm been taking elocution lessons from Deus? But the Barbarian was a stupid cunt who ruined everything! Everything!Oh, interesting... so she's still an active node...The pair had stood around for several minutes, and the Princess could feel the Barbarian trapped within the machine. The wires connecting her brain to the iron throne were still working, even without the Sorceress to control them.Well, that's... good? news...It didn’t help that the Barbarian was still screaming in her mind. The top half of the machine was a flaming mess, but the bottom half and the platform was still intact.Well, that IS his modus operandi. Orion/Amadi/Vitiosus is more genre-savvy than I'm comfortable with. Now the Vizier appeared particularly pissed. “I must triple check everything now. I’ve worked far too hard to let his ilk unravel everything. He did something. Changed something. Meddled in some way.”What a tweest! Well... Un-twist? What do you call it when you twist a twist? Well, I love it, because I'd originally supposed that he had twisted a real prophecy to his own ends!“The prophecy is real. It was revealed to me by… higher powers. I’ve learned the best way to sabotage prophecy is to place someone unworthy in its role.”I'm reminded of Scootaloo in the original FOE, where she talked about becoming "the villain of the piece" -- doing what needs to be done, even though nobody will thank you for it and those in power will demonize you for it. It's a common fate for those who oppose a comfortable but poisonous status quo, I guess.“You can’t imagine how infuriating it is to creep and skulk about because one of his little schemes put the Princesses on high alert and suspicious of everyone else trying to move up. He’s inspired heroes, elevated the Princesses, and legitimized their roles in Equestria. His petrification didn’t help, either. With his absence, any disruption to the social order was noted! It made this so terribly difficult. Had it not been for the war, I never would have had my opportunity!”Welcome to Blackjack's world.“We must remove the soul immediately!” Then he skidded to a stop, his eyes wide. “Unless that’s what he actually wants us to do... but if he... but I... he... AHHHGH!”Oh ho! Now I really want to know what the real prophecy was, and which parts he warped.“Thank you. Then she is not the true Maiden, now or ever.”Oh.“The light of stars that died long ago, and would not go quietly into the darkness.”
Shit.
The Eater of Souls isn't just inadvertently helping the Things that Live in the Dark. It is one. Or... what's left of one after another star sacrified itself to destroy it.Broken things can be repaired.“Blackjack is broken…” He muttered the phrase as if tasting it and finding it to his liking. “Good. Then all is accounted for.”You would think that stars would more fully understand that a tiny shift can make the difference between an asteroid impact and a near miss, a few orbits hence.Discord affected something, but it was slight. The tiniest wobble of the outplay of events. A hair’s shift out of alignment, ultimately for naught.Poor Blankjack. Then he sat down, tore off his helmet, and was violently ill over the platform edge. You know things have gotten epic when mere megalomania seems rather petty.“That striped bastard thinks he can talk to me like that? Me? I’ll show him and his fucking stars who owns this world. I won’t serve anyone. Not him or Cognitum or Dawn or Crunchy Carrots. Me. I’m the one who should be in charge. I won’t be second to anyone. Anyone!”...huh.“All the time. I’m always getting hurt. My body. My heart. My soul. Always getting hurt. People always shoot me. Even my friends shot me. Glory shot me in the face… but it’s okay. It was an accident,” the Princess muttered weakly.Let's hear it for being a not-smart pony! She’s young. She and Blackjack both. I can only assume there’s enough space...That explains why we're getting this weird third-person narration.“Because there’s none of Blackjack’s soul in her. Blackjack’s mind… her memory and personality… they’re just like a character in a story to Charm. Without her soul, they’re just detailed data.”Everyone always forgets about Rampa--Then a great hissing mass launched itself from out of the shadows behind the three, clearing the filly and diving at the armored stallion. “STAY AWAY FROM MY KIDS!” the Revenant screamed in near feral rage...--wait, what?...as the maroon ghoul opened his jaws wide, pink cloud boiling up his throat.Awww yeah! Back in action!I lurched as everything came together, the experience like a board across my face....sans 400 pounds of strength-training gear.Without my steel augmentation, that teleport had been almost… easy.Man, it's been a LONG time since she really used her precision magic tricks, hasn't it?My eyes focused on his guns, and my magic reached out and began to field strip the firing pins from both of them. The entire room is full of starmetal, Blackjack!I examined the medallion. My best weapon? How was it a weapon? It was just a piece of moonstone covered in plastic. How could I use it as a weapon? There ya go!The metal armor flashed white, then exploded with enough force to bodily throw him to the side, crashing like an avalanche into the wrecked terminals. The medallion shot off in the opposite direction, but I caught it with my magic. The plastic had melted away, leaving a tiny round wafer of moonstone within. Then I turned and took in his silvery armor. No wonder my magic bullets hadn’t even scratched it. “Starmetal? You lined your armor with starmetal?”This must be what Gambit feels like every day.Given the armor had only been lined with it, rather than made of the stuff, I wasn’t vaporizing the pony within. I was, however, blowing apart hoof-sized hunks of armor with each impact, striking the moonstone hard against the silver coating. “You murderous son of a mule!” Away went the plate covering his shoulders. “You bloody asshole!” An explosion ripped a strip of cabling and reinforcement from off his neck as he staggered back.
Is it just me, or is this really reminicent of BJ's "everything I touch explodes" killing joke?Ahahahaha! Nope, no exploiting her sympathy now!“Wait! You don’t understand! I was molested as a colt!” Boom went a foreleg strut. “My mom rented me out to raiders!” Boom went a chest plate. “Cognitum made me do it!” The left side of his helmet flew apart in chunks and a wide, terrified eye stared at me. “The Legate used his star magic on me! I swear!” His other forehoof exploded in a cloud of shrapnel. “Damn it, stop!”
It occurs to me that Steel Rain is a very childish character. At his core, he doesn't really know how to wield power except by killing people.God dammit.hen, the fucker did the one thing I’d hoped he wouldn’t. He raised his bloody hooves in the air and shouted as loud as he could, “I give up!”I can has Rampage now?He coughed weakly. “I surrender. I quit. I throw myself on your mercy!” My eye twitched as he pulled off the ruined helmet and grinned at me, his pink features now swelling up. He coughed again, bringing up bloody phlegm. “Arrest me. Lock me up. Take me to trial. I’ll pay for my crimes however you want.”That was really, really dumb. Then he lunged forward, ramming us hard over the edge with a body slam.Second chances. Not third. But I appeared a few feet away. He laughed as he faced me. “Sorry, but I just couldn’t help–” then his laughter died as he saw what dangled from my hoof.I'm going to choose to believe that's Blueblood. One letter written by some politician about forcibly relocating zebras from Zebratown to the Appleloosan desert with the ‘other riff raff’ had the comment ‘Relocate to the Appleloosan desert’ over a drawing of a bound and gagged unicorn stallion being loaded on a train with a tag ‘To: Riff Raffia’ tied to his ear.Oh! Well, that's not so bad. Say hi to Styg for me.On the far side, I stepped into a stone chamber lit with thousands of tiny star lights that swirled and twinkled overhead. The walls were of blackest marble shot through with veins of amethyst. Cold, imposing black statues loomed over us, their crystalline eyes seeming to follow me as I stepped away from the portal. With a slurping noise, it winked shut behind us.
“Oh, that’s not good,” I muttered, then observed my surroundings in more detail. This wasn’t a prison. It appeared to be some sort of castle.Well... technically, all the decent weapons in the Wasteland were, too. But we know what you meant. There were racks of vaguely familiar armor on stands, wielding archaic weapons that seemed like they’d been forged centuries ago.Knock first.More groans, moans, and giggles, from more than one person. Definitely not ghosts, or at least I hoped not.The Redoubt. The only place to shelter from global destruction. Makes sense...“Another... well... okay, I’m not sure where. It’s a place that’s in Equestria in the Hoof, but it’s set slightly to... well...” Whisper glanced over at Stygius, who chirped and shrugged, looking over at his sister.
Tenebra rolled her eyes. “We’re in Equestria’s shadow. A place where Nightmare Moon could hide her forces as she prepared to conquer Equestria. When she was banished, most of her forces fled this place. Most. Those who remained maintained this place as best as they could.”And may need to, before this is over. You could easily fit the entire population of most of the Hoof in here.Oh, the eyes aren't genetic damage. That's just a thing.Another with missized fangs pointing in different directions, standing next to a mare with eyes that did the same thing.Fortunately, you won't have any say by then.It is my fondest wish that, in a few generations, we will not need outsider blood any longer,” he continued with a distasteful curl of his lip.Easy to check. See if Shadow Hoofington is still a giant fuckoff crater.I don’t know how many super massive explosions like that there’s been. The balefire bombs and megaspells didn’t touch this place, so... maybe?Oh. OH! The fortress overlaps Star House! The portal must be in the basement! Then the door to the building opened, and a pony-shaped form emerged. Like everything else around me, she was ghostly and translucent like smoky quartz. A pale white glow in her chest spread light through her. I reached out and touched her wing as she trotted around to the side of the building and sat down. I stared at her face, slowly picking her features out. I stared for a minute, then whispered softly, “Glory?”GYAH!The dark purple shape turned and looked at me, its head slipping out of the cloudy shell of my body. Step by step it emerged, regarding me with cool teal eyes. “It is not in my power to grant you that, Blackjack.”
I'm thinking this must be what motes see. They're probably images of their former selves on the other side.Called it!“Dragonfire doesn’t always kill, though!” I snapped at her. “LittlePip used Spike’s to travel into the S.P.P. hub! You did the same thing to Goldenblood, didn’t you?”
Luna stared at me a moment, then whispered, “Yes.”Augh! No! You can't leave me like this! I need the next chapter!Footnote: Loading, please wait...
So. Lots of revelations to process. I got too tied up in the story to comment much on the really heavy sections. Sorry.

Being that the other two are mesopotamian deities, "Ashtur" should be "Ashur".Ashtur. Dagon. Namtar. Show me…laughingThe shivery light rang as if it were laughter. This sentence starts and ends with the same prepositional phrase. In that light were strange, incoherent things suggestive of faces and tendrils and other terrible shapes hidden within the silvery light.pale, soddenSuddenly, the hand of black energy withdrew from the depths, pulling with it a white mass, and set the sodden pale shape on the deck behind the blasted computer. That's a cute way to put it, but "spit across" describes width, not depth...Their genetic pool is so shallow that you could spit across it.Think about that sentence. You could easily fit the entire population... of most of the Hoof. So the rest would make it difficult? What? Change this to either "You could easily fit the entire population of the Hoof" or "You could fit most of the population of the Hoof". I suggest the latter. You could easily fit the entire population of most of the Hoof in here."clearly" and "apparent" conflict -- one suggests it's obvious, the other suggests you have to look for it.On closer inspection, there was clearly some genetic damage apparent in a few of them.

But even without religion Nightmare Moon was a threat in a lot of their lifetimes. To Ponies and Zebras it was proven to be more than a fable, they witnessed her return. Why would they ever believe Luna was anything else?
It goes further than religion. Luna as far as they're concerned is Nightmare Moon with a haircut and even without religion Nightmare Moon was an awful person, her sister thought so, and I can assure you she didn't subscribe to the zebra religion.
I just can't bring myself to fault them in the way you could, even if I did think that NMM was their main motive. I really don't, and I find it hard to believe the ponies were able to make that sepration without knowing her personally.
My blame tilts towards Celestia, as an experienced ruler and older sister she handed off her problems for someone else to solve. That doesn't make her a good example of either.
... huh.
Well, maybe you have a point. Still though, ponies seemed to be able to tell Luna and Nightmare Moon apart. I cannot recall seeing in Memory Orbs ponies speak of her as if she was NMM. And if we look back to original FoE, we see Steelhooves having an episode while discussing that issue with Xenith and not believing that they couldn't tell those two apart.

- Spoilered for Brevity:
- I actually read Celestia's abdication in the totally opposite direction. Rather than cowardice, I see it as a demonstration of responsibility and self-clarity. That sounds really paradoxical, but this is how I see it: The last really big crisis on a globally cataclysmic scale was Nightmare Moon's rebellion. In it, Celestia's mishandling of the situation lead to further escalation of the conflict until NMM was banished to space. The problem wasn't really dealt with, only delayed, and Luna's instability would be even worse when she returned from ten centuries alone on the moon. In the wake of that event, Celestia realized that she wasn't capable of handling overwhelming crises, which is why she spent the next one thousand years creating a status quo so status-quo-y that she could be certain that she could manage it alone. If FiM is any indication of the level of entropy in Equestria, that period wouldn't have been inherently more stable, just that Celestia was able to contain the little problems so that they never grew to become big problems that she wouldn't be able to handle as sole monarch.
Flash-forward to the War, and you see a continuation of that policy. Almost nopony or zebra believed that the war was anything that couldn't be resolved by a round of diplomatic negotiations, and you can see Celestia trying to contain the situation in her actions (dispatching the Mane 6 to talk with the Buffalo, sending the Wonderbolts to rescue the hostages, etc.). Then Littlehorn happened, horrifically proving that the war wasn't something that could be settled by a pretty light show and a group hug. In that moment, Celestia realized that the War was something that she was no longer capable of solving. In recognition of her botched "solution" to the Nightmare Moon crisis, Celestia voluntarily recused herself and finally put trust in her sister, leaving Equestria in the hooves of somepony she believed would be better able to handle the conflict. And arguably, she was right. Luna turned Equestria into a state capable of withstanding continuous warfare, just not one that would be able to end it.
Part of the problem is that the very nature of the FoE-verse causes us to see everything in hindsight. We can see Luna being isolated and alone, the war escalating brutally until everyone dies in balefire, and all of this being a direct result of Celestia choosing to get out of the driver's seat and put Luna in charge. But if you see it from Celestia's viewpoint, you can see that she never intended for Luna to be abandoned. Luna would be supported by Celestia's surrogate daughter and friends, ponies whom Celestia trusted absolutely. Her conversation with Goldenblood suggests that she never intended to abandon her duties to her sister, instead she suddenly found that the new system had completely locked her out. Celestia made the morally responsible decision and arguably the right one for the situation, it's just that the right choices don't always lead to the right results.
There's also the question of why Celestia didn't do anything to stop the runaway train before it killed the world, and the answer is just she honestly couldn't do anything anymore. In order to ensure Luna's authority, Goldenblood had pretty much cut Celestia out of the equation, leaving her the ability to attend Galas and make nice with diplomats and not much else. Her ability to directly contact or advise Luna and the Ministry Mares was extremely limited if not completely nonexistent. If she tried to forcibly bring about a stop to the crazy train, it would at best severely divide Equestria between the old Celestian royalists and those who favored the new government, and at worst spark a civil war in a nation that had by this point effectively become solely devoted to doing just that. Even if she won the resulting conflict, she would just be taking Luna's problems onto the shoulders of a pony she knew wasn't capable of handling them, one already racked with guilt over her indirect responsibility for Littlehorn and her new direct responsibility for the Equestrian Civil War.

I agree with your theory regarding golden blood, I believe he was also the one hijacking BJ eyes.
I bet we can find all those little hints through out the story.

ANYWAYS, OFFTOPIC...
Umm...yeah...
I'd have to say that one of the things that interests me the most about this latest chapter is that "shadow world" observation that Blackjack had of the gang and them running into Cognitum-jack. I really want to know what happened on their end, and moreover, why Glory was crying.
P.S. I came out of lurking before it was cool! :D
It's said there, and I quote: "Clearly, Glory wasn't happy". Though... it could be that she wasn't happy with Blackjack once again wanting to go save everybody just after she got back.
Which means Cogs is pretending to be Blackjack, which means Rampage is cunt for going along with that, and I am looking forward to P-21 blowing the shit out of her as soon as Blackjack will catch up with them, even if Blackjack will tell him to stop. Which to me would be.... ugh, look, Blackjack begging Rampage to help her and her ignoring that and just walking the freaking away after assuring her that she will make sure Cogs keeps her word and lets her go was about the most hurtful thing for me in the previous chapter. I really hope Rampage will suffer some consequences for that!
I cannot help but have a bad feeling that the reunion won't be so happy for Blackjack, though... which is a pity, as, given how much peril they all already are in I think we could skip more drama. But oh well.
On another topic, since now we have confirmed that Goldenblood is alive and kicking... was it him that send Blackjack that message back when she and Stygius were attacked in his house and signed it as "Spike"?
And on another hoof; when Luna explains how she was to blame, how she could surrendered to save Equestria... look, it might be just me being atheist, but am I really the only person who puts the entire blame on zebra for the Wasteland?! I mean, sure, I know that ponies were to blame for it too, but the whole reason why zebra's escalated the war was because they couldn't tell a freaking difference between Luna and Nightmare Moon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look, despite being atheist, I do have respect for religions. One of my friends from high school was an altar boy in catholic church and despite having different opinions on a lot of things we got along. But I think those parts of religion that cause you to go on a slaughter spree, like the Crusades, the today's islam's terrorism (read an article about a 14 year old boy who's in prison for attemting to suecide bomb police station or something... for the second time, and didn't regret a thing, saying that Allah demanded the infidels to die) are about THE MOST IDIOTIC THINGS WE CAME UP WITH AS A SPECIES!!!
So yeah, to me it will always be the zebra's believes on the first place on the list of "Who's to blame".

We touched on this a little while ago. As a clone, she probably physically has her hymen again. Then again, as Dr. Morningstar put it, "Virginity is all in the mind." (And on that note, I'd love to see more of her. She's my favorite minor character since Crumpets).Dutcher wrote:Wait... Isn't BJ a maiden now?

Intriguing, though I'm not sure that fits with what we know of her character. Cogs has thus far proven that she's capable of incredible ruthlessness in the pursuit of her goals. She did demonstrate that she's very skilled with projected illusions at the Flash Industries building along with her skill at laser-inflicted violence, which would be an astounding moment of foreshadowing 35+ chapters in advance.Karazu wrote:So I was doing some thinking, as I am wont to do, and had a little thought: What if Cognitum didn't actually kill anyone when she was beam sniping?
Blackjack did notice that she had impressive special effect skills when shown the potential destruction of the Core. Is it possible Cognitum simply used this skill to trick Blackjack into thinking all those places were destroyed?
Just a theory.
Also, your avatar is giving me massive waves of nostalgia.

So i guess BJ is the maiden of stars?
Amadi said that it's not cog, and the EoS already said that BJ is the chosen one.
That is if virginity is not only in her mind.

Just to quickly add to this, I had given thought to that possibility. Then after Discord came I decided that he got the power he needed to move Luna's soul from the outcry that Cogs caused. Did anyone else think this? I would be surprised if he pulled that off with only the power he had, as I'm pretty sure he mentioned that even if he tried, he couldn't even leave Boo's body let alone do something quite that powerful.Scienza wrote:Intriguing, though I'm not sure that fits with what we know of her character. I can see how you think I'm being captain hindsight over here, but trying to think about it even in that moment when she decided to make that choice to me it makes far less sense than even looking at it with through hindsight.
Little horn was Luna's school it had just been lost to this war, as much that hurt Celestia that such a thing happened on her watch how much did it hurt Luna? Was she really in a state to take over? Is that even something that occured to Celestia or was she so wrapped up in herself that she couldn't see it. So personally I think the timing is just about as awful as it could be.
Also you claim that Celestia wanted to guide her. If she did then why would she hand over everything so quickly? The ministries couldn't shut her out if she remained ruler until she was certain Luna could handle it, or at the very least understood how the ministries operated.
If I'm wearing the goggles of hindsight Celestia's wearing the sunglasses of family. Which handily enough allow you to blindly trust your sister to run a show that she's not equipped for. Or has not shown to be equipped for at least.
To me, it was an emotional choice. Not a logical one, I don't see any clarity in it, in fact I see the opposite. But that's just my perspective on it.

It's true that I'm probably severely rationalizing Celestia's irrational actions to make it more palatable to an avowed fan of Princess Bootylicious such as myself. To a large extent, it's the headcanon I want to believe rather than the one that I know to be true.Last wrote:Scienza wrote:Celestia

My birthday isn't for a few more weeks... but thank you.
Also, welcome new lurkers. Sorry. I lurk myself here too. Sometimes so many people is a little intimidating some days.

Borsuq wrote:And on another hoof; when Luna explains how she was to blame, how she could surrendered to save Equestria... look, it might be just me being atheist, but am I really the only person who puts the entire blame on zebra for the Wasteland?! But I think those parts of religion that cause you to go on a slaughter spree, like the Crusades, the today's islam's terrorism (read an article about a 14 year old boy who's in prison for attempting to suicide bomb police station or something... for the second time, and didn't regret a thing, saying that Allah demanded the infidels to die) are about THE MOST IDIOTIC THINGS WE CAME UP WITH AS A SPECIES!!!
So yeah, to me it will always be the zebra's believes on the first place on the list of "Who's to blame".
I thought that the primary cause of the war was Equestria's growing dependence on Zebra coal to fuel their industrial revolution. Wasn't the whole Nightmare Moon thing was a ploy to unify the Zebras against Equestria, much like your example of terrorist organisations twisting religion to recruit followers willing to die for their cause?
Maybe I'm just a super atheist

Umm...yeah...
I'd have to say that one of the things that interests me the most about this latest chapter is that "shadow world" observation that Blackjack had of the gang and them running into Cognitum-jack. I really want to know what happened on their end, and moreover, why Glory was crying.
P.S. I came out of lurking before it was cool! :D
What if Glory is crying because Rampage told her about Blackjack's "fate"?
This really don't look good... last time she thought Blackjack died...

We just spent many paragraphs discussing her emotional insecurity in the FoEverse.swicked wrote:She is not a stereotypical middle-aged black woman and has more than enough suitors to not need that sort of self-affirmation.Scienza wrote:You know that's totally what Celestia calls herself in the morning while looking in the mirror, along with affirmations that she does, in fact, still got it.swicked wrote:"Bootylicious" o_O
Stuff that ends in "-licious" is more Twilight's territory.
Also, she's bootylicious.

In my headcanon, the war wasn't just religion. The Caesar was extremely weak when he came to office; was elected in a 4,3,3,3 split between the thirteen tribes AND the deciding vote was cast by the Starkatteri. It's sort of like having Hamas decide an election. So the Caesar used the conflict to build up his support beating the war drum of patriotism and speciesism. When Luna came to power, it wasn't that serious... but it was there. And The Caesar played that up as much as he could. When the zebra were accused of nearly assassinating Princess Celestia and killing Big Mac, the zebra feared that Equestria would crush the zebra empire in retaliation, as many ponies wanted to do just that. The war turned particularly nasty, and the idea of Luna as a tool of the stars really gained traction.

So were economic tensions or ideological differences more to blame for the start and progression of the war?Somber wrote:In my headcanon, the war wasn't just religion. @Swicked
You spend a thousand years eating fattening dirt-pony cakes while having your figure judged by mobs of jealous sycophants and see if you come out without any physical insecurity.
Though it depends on how many calories are burned by sun-lifting. She doesn't seem to fly regularly, so exercise is an unknown factor.

I'm talking about the physical insecurities of an immortal cartoon horse in an argument initiated by the word "bootylicious".

Aye, she's fantabulous beyond her booty. I mean, seriously, the Gala episodes showed that the Equestrian nobility pretty much sucks just as much as any real-world aristocracy, so the fact that Celly was able to prevent them from all offing each other in a fight over some shoes is actually incredibly impressive. Though, Canterlot is in effect a giant Versailles.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I'll try to keep this short, but I'll say my interpretation of the abdication is closer to swicked's than Scienza's. If nothing else, I'd expect something motivated by a rational judgement that she was less capable of governing than Luna would involve a more structured transfer of power than "effective immediately, she's in charge." On the point that Goldenblood only needed to make some soft pushes against her ego to keep her from interfering, I'd go one further: that was probably all he could do—or at least all he felt safe doing—because if he pushed back hard enough for her to try to force her way to Twilight, her seeing his treatment of her beloved mentor would likely cause a real morale problem at a level the Ministry apparatus may not have been able to handle.
Interestingly, the FoE governance model of Celestia having complete control and Luna being a space filler whom Celestia may occasionally listen to has been borne out pretty well by seasons two through four so far (and the comics). Luna has only ever appeared in a personal capacity, sometimes didn't even show up to things you'd expect her to even if only as a figurehead (e.g., the royal wedding), and in the only instance she tried to affect a government decision on screen—the season three premiere—Celestia's response wasn't so far from "who said you get an opinion?" So as far as the blame game goes, I'd say that likewise weighs against her: part of the problem was that, contrary to what she said was how they were meant to be upon Luna's exorcism by the Elements, they did not rule together, which deprived them of the ability to share the infrastructure and responsibility of governance, and incidentally facilitated the Nightmare Moon propaganda of the late war period.

- Unedited Chapter Reactions:
- The bad guy's plan is too horrible for Steel Rain? Well, won't this be interesting...
Snips and Dawn and I'm having trouble writing good this scene is exciting
The Knight blinked at her. “I like me,” he said in faintly injured tones, his voice regaining a little of his old self.
I um really like this for some reason
Sanguine is really reminding me of someone right now. His confusion is actually really sad, but I'm laughing like a lunatic right now.
“Not instantly, though. I’m a soul jar, albeit a flawed and improperly prepared one. I should last long enough to get Blackjack back. I might even survive. Wouldn’t that be a laugh?” he said hollowly. “Once we do have the body, though, how do we get Blackjack back inside?”
I really like this guy's attitude.
“Ow… ow… ow…”
This guy.
“Do it,” a choking, mottled voice hissed.
Oh, Jesus.
The Last Stand of the Broken Monsters is probably going to be one of my favourite bits in the whole of Project Horizons. It's like an exercise demonstrating the flexibility of sympathy for awful people that are excellent characters.
I dunno. I found Steel Rain's end to be really satisfying overall.
I found a set of the dark purple barding and slipped it on, then levitated a spear.
Oh hell yeah.
Then I felt a wind sweep over me and turned to see a black vortex of magic forming. It swirled around in a flat, ebony disk, then stilled.
Didn't realize until after, but I was slowly leaning in on my computer screen for three paragraphs after this.
Okay. That was it. My brain was officially out of order.
Uh, you and me both. This is why I read in empty rooms, I guess.
Honestly, I finally find a community I feel comfortable in, where family members regularly fuck each other, and they still act like it's a bad thing.
...I completely forgot that swicked was going to help write Psycho's dialogue now. All we need is Rampage.
Another with missized fangs pointing in different directions, standing next to a mare with eyes that did the same thing
References!
almost jet black with red, dragon-pupilled eyes
His real voice is ridiculously squeaky, or he's a softie underneath, or maybe he's just a man behind a curtain, or perhaps something else ridiculous. Fingers crossed.
- Afterthoughts::
- Afterthoughts:
While I really liked The Last Stand of the Broken Monsters, the whole thing felt very surgical. Like the ticking off of a checklist. Revenant fights until crippled, curb stomped until popped. Lady fights while crippled, curb stomped until popped. Golem stands in the wrong place, explodes. Horse expires, just straight up. Not much for that one, really. Magician straight-up explodes in self sacrifice.
You know, we never did see his body… then again, we never saw it even when he was ‘alive.’ He’s probably dead. But honestly I thought he was going to be the survivor. Not just because of the soul jar thing, but because of his speech. The whole, ‘I’ve done way too much bad to live pretending I’ll ever do enough good.’ It really seemed to me like he’d be another example of one of my favourite recurring themes, like Blackjack and Deus. Not to mention that he was the only one there (aside from Charm) who made a straight-up self sacrifice. Dawn and Sanguine made suicide attacks, but weren’t actually walking into death (I’d assume that they’d try to stay alive for the few precious seconds that Charm needed). Horse and Sweetie straight up died (poor Golem, by the way. She was my second vote for a survivor, a perfect vapid temporary party member). Snips just hops into the light with a casual, ‘This might kill me. Let’s find out.’
And to be honest, I kind of (meaning intensely) want to see him and Snails in the epilogue.
Steel Rain kind of felt necessary. While I don’t like how he suddenly went from the only bad guy who was a threat because of only his wits to a petulant child with the foresight of a mosquito, he was clever where it counted. His manipulation of Blackjack’s forgiveness was required to show us that even Blackjack has limits- she sticks to her policy of second chances, even in the face of great and clear risk, but she will not be manipulated by a bad guy who’s read the first half of PH. At least, not on the shallow level Steel Rain operated. His petty and transparent appeals made it clear that he thought Blackjack’s little weakness made her a negligible threat, which let her prove to the audience how untrue this was.
The 'hazy dream world'... I wonder what that is. At first I thought it was the result of teleporting outside, since Obligatory Grumpy Secular Leader said that only shadow magic could take someone out of there. Then Luna showed up and I just don't know.

So was the thing last chapter just an act? A necessary move to save himself? This doesn't sound like a guy who has nothing left but necromancy.
