Well, I and some friends of mine decided to just think of the episode as some fanfiction that Rainbow Dash wrote. :DKattlarv wrote:@EP: (MLP) Anyone else noticed that Discord is implied to live with Fluttershy?
As for the new episode: I really, REALLY hope that people are capable of drawing something interesting about it. Feel like they'll force out the bland, generic content, even though there's a ton of innovative content possible. It was the same though last season/s, and episode. What do people have against being original or interesting?

funny I find this to be an important lesson for children to be wary of their idols and to not be so enamored with their own view of these people, these idols that they forget themselves. Plenty of people look up to folks and see them on this pedestal and never think themselves as capable as their idol.Last wrote:Damn Camo, these episodes really piss you off huh?

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
To those who play the Victoria II pony mod:
To shake things up, I decided to make my latest playthrough one of Sokoto. I've still been checking Equestria every now and then, though, to see how the AI's doing with it, and I was surprised to see that Equestria can release nations I've never heard of from its territory (Grand Everfree was one of them, IIRC). I've not updated the mod or anything since the last time I played Equestria, and I didn't see preexisting cores for the new nations. This, combined with that time I conquered the USA with the intent of releasing it as a satellite and didn't get the option, makes it clear to me that there must be some hidden factor determining whether nations show up in the release menu. Any idea what that might be?

@Episode
The latest one's the weakest of the lot thus far, for me. I liked the opener quite a bit, and the castle one was okay, but this one just didn't do it for me. I kept waiting for the whole thing to be a big joke, or like... I don't know, a plan Twilight came up with to make the wait easier for Dash, but it never happened. Easiest twist in the world, and it would have made the episode a lot better, IMO. I don't know why they had to adventure it up in the first place, to be honest.
@Starbound
I need a gun. :| I think the pacing of the game's a bit off, in that you seem to need to just get lucky to find some really essential gear (tech and guns especially, though the rarity of gold is also extremely annoying).

@OAC The patch coming tomorrow should help that, but if you're having trouble you can always go to /r/StarboundPlanets to find what other people have, at least in terms of tech and guns. Not sure what to do about ore, I'm having the same problem

Yeah, but I don't want to have to metagame that much to get a fully-functional game. Of course, seeing as the game is in beta, it's not a functional game yet, so I can't really complain. Apparently, asteroids and stuff have rarer metals in them, but reaching them pretty much requires flight and stuff, which is a tech you need to find at random and is probably not found before the point at which you start needing a lot of gold for armor and suchlike. Meanwhile, I've found a way of beating a lot of gun NPCs - basically, only 1hand+shield is at all viable - but because of the way guns work, you can't get too close or they'll start shooting past your shield, making guns the preferable close-combat weapon to swords, ironically enough. Also, sometimes the slow advance and waiting for the gun's fire rate to slow down as the NPC runs out of energy doesn't work.Aonee wrote:@OAC The patch coming tomorrow should help that, but if you're having trouble you can always go to /r/StarboundPlanets to find what other people have, at least in terms of tech and guns. @OAC Hehe, I random jumped to a planet with gun merchants. Forgot to set a home planet or record coordinates and spent an hour finding the original planet I jumped from. Guns were worth it for evening the playing field.
I'm actually holding off on playing too much Starbound in case the next patch wipes the characters. Also busy working on writing my RP character's backstory. Writing is hard to get back into. Spend too much time thinking on what to write instead of writing it. *sighs*

Well I'm fucking bored again. I've just defeated all my games again on hardest difficulty(except touhou, barely getting past that), but are there any actually difficult video games anymore? I don't mean against other players, but AI opponents are not challenging.
A problem with a lot of modern games is that enemies rely on line of sight and dodging one foot left or right and they'll miss you completely, or they think adding hp to a enemy makes them hard, or that they think letting the enemy cheat makes it hard. I'm not just talking about fps games, but a lot of games. A prime example of what I mean is DMC(the remake) vs DMC 2. DMC has "dante must die" which one hit kills your player and it's still not as hard as DMC 2(the original copy) on hard mode. I mean wtf man, a game with a difficulty where one hit kills your character isn't even close to as difficult as a older game in the franchise? Something is wrong here.
Games like Dark Souls and such are obvious exceptions, but come on give people a challenge games once in a while.

I have to agree with Swicked on this. What's difficult varies from person to person. I had issues getting through Half-Life 2, yet I find League of Legends to be relatively easy so long as I'm not distracted.

@cb5 Well, there's Mega Pony, which pays tribute to the insane difficulty of Mega Man Classic stages, though not without bugs. Tetris is always fun for me as well. But as Swicked stated, difficulty depends on the player. Besides, I'd rather play a game that's engaging over one that's "difficult". Differences explained in one of the Extra Credits episodes.

Almost everything is subjective that isn't a intrinsic part of the universe. Even math is considered subjective in that we say one item plus another items equals 2 items, however in reality you just have a set of items. We use subjectivity to understand the world and give birth to reason. However without subjectivity reason and logic become a mess. Subjectivity in a nutshell is a observation based on reality. Without making subjective assessments upon reality you observe reality without comprehending it. Observation without comprehension is maddening when you think about it.swicked wrote:Difficulty is subjective, buddy-boy.
Right now you are making a subjective assessment of your surroundings that states that your observation of my post is in fact real, when objectively the message I am conveying to your is merely a interaction of neurons performing a operation and thus transmitting it's operation into electronic form for what you perceive as yourselves' neural pathway to perform another operation to understand.
In a nutshell it is impossible for one to be completely objective about everything, because without subjectivity to understand what is being said one would be physically incapable of understanding anything. To make it even simpler in order to make a assessment of something you have to make a observation and understand it which in a nutshell is subjective. Without subjective compression of outside observations the human mind would not be able to exist.
Tl:dr; Yes it's subjective, but very little in the universe is actually objective.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Oh so you want everything to be like call of duty? I mean they're appealing to the largest audience and are king of the hill, so of course that means games like call of duty are good games. Or the movie equivalent of how transformers 2(the michael bay one) appealed to the largest market and because of it was a good movie. You know what? I say skid and mudflap should have their own movie cause after the financial success of transformers 2 they're obviously doing something right.swicked wrote:No shit, sherlock. My point, though, is that clearly they're appealing to an audience that finds that stuff sufficiently-difficult. Likely an audience far larger than the one you are part of.cb5 wrote:***everything-is-relative***swicked wrote:Difficulty is subjective, buddy-boy.
[/sarcasm]
Sarcasm aside appealing to the largest mass doesn't automatically mean something is good cause it relies on the logic that appealing to the lowest common denominator(it doesn't just mean sex) causes something to be successful financially something is or how good it is. Which in reality is complete bullcrap. Yes there is a correlation between how large of a audience you are appealing to how much of a profit it generates, HOWEVER it does not mean causation.
Your logic would say that the reason why call of duty rakes in so much money is that it appeals to the largest demographic, HOWEVER the actual reason why it rakes in so much money is that it is still using the same engine which says a massive amount of money. Let's say two companies are making two products and both products cost the same and have the same price on shelf, however company A has a cost of production that is half of company B. Which is going to generate more profit?
Also larger companies can use their video game engine for a ton of video games which keeps the cost of production down, whereas as smaller companies only use their video game engine for a smaller number of video games with screws them over when it comes to the cost of production.
If someone were to come out with a absolutely perfect video game engine that no one could possibly improve on that everyone could use then smaller companies would have their cost of production go way down allowing them to become more profitable and thus sail into AAA status.
Tl:dr; Companies with low cost of production have larger profits.

I remember my point. My point is that you can have difficult video games and still be profitable due to that the reason why games like call of duty rake in tons of cash is that they have low cost of production versus profit. Just cause something gets a ton of money doesn't mean it's financially successful.swicked wrote:Again, no duh. Do you even remember your original point, though?cb5 wrote:***no, the games are just more marketable/economic***swicked wrote:No shit, sherlock. You claimed that games were not difficult-enough nowadays. I said that was subjective and they're likely difficult-enough for enough of the audience they're being made for to be profitable.
You are going off on a completely different, entirely irrelevant tangent to the original point I was debunking.
In order to gauge how actually financially successful something is you have to factor in it's profit versus it's production cost. The reason why AAA titles are so profitable isn't that it's cause "appealing to a larger audience" rather using the same video game engine over and over and over keeps production costs down.
To make it short the reason why AAA titles are more profitable isn't cause they're appealing to a larger audience, but cause their production costs are way smaller cause they just reuse the same video game engine over and over thus keeping their costs down.
Your argument ignores cost of production when factoring why financially successful games are successful and the flaw in that is hypothetically if something costs more to produce than it profits would you consider that a financial success?

I can't find the cost of production for COD: ghosts, but MW2 had a profit of 1.8 billion dollars and only cost 40-50 million dollars to make. It's simple math.swicked wrote:So, what, are you saying the difficulty of the games in question isn't a factor? If so, prove it, because if there's a trend in games being a bit easier across the board, I'm still betting it's because they sell better.cb5 wrote:***there are lots of reasons for games to be profitable***swicked wrote:Again, no duh. Hypothetically let's say you're a kid wanting to sell lemonade and choosing which lemonade mix at the store to use. Lemonade mix A costs one tenth the cost of Lemonade mix B. If you want more money at the end of the day which lemonade mix are you going to pick for your lemonade stand?
