It's not so much an excuse for the shoddy mechanics as it is just... not something I expect at this point, you know? I have gotten used to console ports for PC games screwing stuff up. That said, I was impressed by the number of things you could tweak in the graphics settings, and the controls on the whole were pretty keyboard-friendly - no silliness about mapping multiple actions to the same key.

@OAC I get you, I think you're right. Game controls should be setup to work best on the platform they're working on. I'm not defending the game by the way. Just  think saying "It's a console port" takes blame away from the devs. 

Not to say there aren't times where certain games simply don't work well on gamepads/keyboards.

Not really, dude. There's sport hunting, which is kinda bad, and then there's going to foreign nations to go sport hunting for rare animals, which is indicative of personality disorders. It's not like she was being attacked by it; she just decided, hey, my ego's too small, let's go kill something as rare as I can legally kill. So, yeah. It's not the most outrageous thing I've read, but it's pretty scummy.

If it was a legal kill, I think she had every right to do it. I'm no fan of hunting for sport, but I agree that people's reaction is bullshit.

While I don't agree with just going out and killing a lion in this day and age, unless said lion has been proven to be targeting humans, I think the outrage is overblown.

As long as she went through the legal channels to kill it there should be no problem. Not like she illegally killed it.

I'm not particularly fond of hunting, hold on let me explain, the reason why is that there should be limits on how much people can hunt certain animals and that.  A common example is deer, even though they repopulate fast enough to combat the loss in numbers they have begun to evolve smaller and smaller horns and that.  Also that due to over fishing and that fish have begun to evolve to become smaller and smaller.

But in the long run too much hunting, fishing and that completely fucks the ecosystem and in turn fucks us.

There should be limits to how much people can hunt and what sort of animals.  If you're hunting a carnivore and there's a local species of herbivore that has a tendency to eat people's crops and if you hunt it's natural predator then congratulations you have fucked anyone trying to farm.... and no hunting every last thing to extinction wouldn't work either.


Basically what I'm getting at is while I'm on the fence of hunting in of itself, if you're hunting something you should consider if there's too few or too many of them.  If there's too many of a species then by all means go hunting, if there's too few then let up buddy.  I'm not necessarily happy about people hunting predators like lions not cause, "ermagod the poor kitty cat", rather lions eat gazelle and zebras and both of which are pests to agriculture.

Africa may have a ton of bad shit going on, but I do have to praise them for actually taking conservationalism seriously.

Also as to the legality of hunting lions in south africa, if the lion was raised in captivity then it's illegal and with how lions are endangered should double broke the law in that she in all probability shot a protected animal who was endangered.  So yes it was illegal.

Tl:dr; yes that was illegal cause lions in south africa are a endangered species.

I... kind of disagree. That line of thinking leads quickly to excruciatingly big brothery government - not everything wrong should be illegal, for a variety of reasons. Social pressure is often pressure enough, for one. Theoretically, the licensed killing of lions is okay because few people end up doing it, either due to the backlash if they parade it around to boost their ego and no doubt get status among certain types of people (which was no doubt the case here, pardon my cynicism and total lack of pity for what this person is experiencing) or because it's prohibitively expensive.

It's better to have it be licensed than illegal, I'd guess, because it creates revenue, because intelligent use can avoid putting the population in actual danger, and because it hopefully cuts down on poaching and bribery of enforcement officials and all the ills that would no doubt come with. That's theoretical, of course.

(swicked is right too that you can't really expect governments in third world countries to be able to do much law enforcement; however, South Africa at least theoretically is better off than most.)

Yes, they're only endangered in west africa. In south africa, they are merely vulnerable.

Doesn't matter, still legal to kill them for now.

Also, don't  bother starting the the ethics and morals stuff, because I don't see any ethical issues with killing things legally.
