Random question:  I haven't heard any news about the minecraft server.  Is it back up or such?  If so what version is it and the IP address, cause I'm sick to fucking death of FTB accidentally messing up my save files and/or lagging.  My last save got lagged to death by accident even though I was trying to avoid it.

The problem is I have a older computer, so if I try to use any wiring or that it has a nervous breakdown.

Also the very first 3D printed prosthetic was made recently.

Short version: Cybernetics is officially here.

lets see, went on a family trip to new york

funny story on day two we went to central park and after passing through and getting a hotdog from an awesome stand(building not a cart) and going back to strawberry fields for a break, i thought it would be a good idea to do a spinning hook kick in my cowboy boots, bad Idea, I went horizontal before landing in a facefall, good news the kick was completed it was the recovery where I lost it, other good news I made my whole family laugh, and finally the last good news I got to practice my face fall landing technique, I'd like to think I did well, bad news I stained my jeans.

What I am waiting for is for the technology to reach the point where a person can get a dermal replacement.  Such a thing would probably start out as dermal armor to prevent bleeding in soldiers, but in reality it would just become "Why be ugly?  When you can be beautifully augmented".

In reality this sort of stuff may be starting out helping the handicapped, but in reality it's going to reach the point where they outperform regular limbs and that, then the military's going to be having a orgasm about it then civilians are going to go nuts about the idea of being able to become beautiful at the press of a button/change their race/sex/height/build/etc.

I give it ten years until it goes the way of the smartphone in that this stuff is currently being used for people with disabilities, but then the military is going to require everyone to get augmented, then you're going to have ads all over from millions of different companies using the generic advertising stuff you see now.

Tl:dr; 10 years from now the military is going to go, "Awww yeah baby" then it's going to catch on elsewhere like a firestorm.

I gotta admit... having known that this stuff was definitely theoretically possible for a pretty long time now makes part of me go more "Friggin' finally, jeez" than "OMG WOW!" ... but it's still pretty cool. Actually tbh I'm pretty sure the whole "brain controlled artificial limb" thing has been going on for longer than the article says, but even so. Cool beans. Now, once we get good at growing nerve cells and reconnecting them and suchlike, then we may really start getting somewhere serious.

What got me interested was the line at the end of the "touch" article about additional senses from implants. Now THAT'S exciting - why just replicate when you can improve and add? The possibilities are staggering.

Sounds fun! You should visit Boston and Philadelphia some time, too, lots of great walking tours, cemeteries... the former is also laid out like a maze, to help tourists learn about the difference between proper cities that grew naturally and icky gross grid layout cities that were made to be accessible. The brain controlled artificial limb thing has been around for a while, the problem with them was that past iterations weren't user friendly and only had a few motions able to do. By that I mean the people could walk, but if they were missing their knee then tough luck. With the ability to feel it now then people missing their entire limb will be able to move the prosthetic like a normal arm.

What that means is with those two technologies combined in a couple years losing all your limbs won't be a problem except for the medical bill for your prosthetics. I give it 2 to 3 years until they come out with a alpha version, five years until it's common place, ten years until they function so well that if you're in the military you are required to get implants or at least dermal armor.

They've recently as well managed to make nanowires attach to nerve cells. What that means as well is that opens the possibility of a direct neural interface, also brain to machine/machine to brain interfaces are starting to take off.

Tl:dr; I give it ten years until deus ex human revolution.

Think of it as like cellphones. Right now cybernetics are where cellphones were 2003.
