Today I was in our Press Centre, serving as 'tech support guy', while specialist from Skyrim Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands and other northern countries were consulting our guys on better ways of doing statistics.
Their translators, meanwhile, complained in private conversation, that those guys 'drink, till there are something to drink' and I'm speaking about alcohol right now. Age variety was from around 30 to near 60 years.
Also. had small chat with few of them, w/o their translators. Voice Skype chats (with some from this forum) helped me a lot in those conversations.

That seems kinda backwards to me, to be honest, but that might well be because I'm trained more to look at technique than for a particular meaning (creative writing ho!). Anyway, it's a really short paper (2k words - hence my wanting to avoid analysis of what any of it means, if it means anything in particular at all, which it frankly might not beyond the depiction of certain emotional resonances throughout the story). Veiling is a technique used by the Gothics both on the characters and on the readers to up the tension and drive both characters and the reader to delve further even as they are ostensibly repelled; we talked about it in class mostly in terms of Anne Radcliffe, and I saw an opportunity to extend it to a more modern piece that mostly practices the veiling on the poor reader. Thanks for the engagement, in any case!

@OAC: I'm happy to be of whatever help I was. I just had it drilled into my head that analyzing fiction should have nothing to do with the reader, it should do with the story and the authors intent. Presumably though you are in a higher English class than any I've taken to date so maybe I just got the simplified freshman's version of it. Good luck with your paper, and kudos to you for choosing a book like House of Leaves to write about voluntarily.
