Man, that show's weird. I found myself enjoying it just for its A.) admittedly interesting (and funny) characters and B.) mind-bendingly surreal, clearly-made-on-crack plots and eventsStoneSlinger88 wrote:Not even Soul Eater?Mister Frost wrote:I can't think of any anime opening song I like. Mister Frost wrote:Of course, the smartest decision would have never involved an invasion at all--infiltrate pony society at the highest levels, from Cadence to Shining to, eventually, all of the Guard and most Gub'ment officials. Subtly steer pony society away from ever learning of the Changelings' existence, and rule over them until the end of the nation.O. Hinds wrote:Oh, thanks. Yeah, I've always thought that "highly flawed impersonation of a high-profile figure followed by a full frontal assault" was a particularly stupid plan for changelings.Mister Frost wrote:The same ponies that didn't notice that their captain/bridegroom was a brainwashed zombie are going to figure out a complex and multilayered plot? (which is pretty brilliant, Hinds. Hat-tipped to you)
Though a friend of mine didn't think that this would work, since the ponies would go on a mad changeling hunt, I countered that their best information on changelings probably comes from changelings planted for that purpose (what "Cadence" "learned during her captivity", for instance). Unfortunately, we had to part before we could finish the conversation.
Then Discord sends some schmuck a pair of shades that can see Changelings through their disguises, and the next thing you know he's running around, kicking ass and pining for bubblegum.

- That's actually what's happening in the alternate universe the RPG I'm running is set in (the first part, that is, not the second). The Swarm was created by Luna in her mad scientist phase shortly before she went NMM; a big PoD was Chrysalis deciding either to keep the Swarm and remain its dictatorial queen (eventually leading, I was thinking, to the events of the show; now I've got this new interpretation of those events, but, well, that's not the universe I'm working in anyway) or spread around intelligence and, to an extent, free will. This, as opposed to a bunch of yeslings, lead to the significantly more effective Hive, which has been busy working its way into Equestria's government for well over half a century now. The Royal Wedding never happened because the Hive's current plan is working quite well, if slowly. Shapeshifter-detecting technology exists by this point (show+25 years), but, well, guess who had some holey hooves in its development? And if your "perfect" changeling detector fails to mark somepony as a changeling, then they must not be a changeling. The Hive has also, through rumors, sightings, good stealth, and the occasional encouragement of conspiracy theorists, managed to create a general public misconception that changelings are either extinct or fictional, and those who do know the "truth" believe changelings to be weak, not very bright, disorganized, and rare.
As for the Sunglasses of Discord idea… interesting. Discord's not been released since his escape in this universe, but there are a few relics left around (including his daughter)… Hm. Something to keep in mind; thanks. Of course, if you tried to fight the changelings openly, you'd find the Equestrian bureaucracy and citizenry moving oddly quickly to spirit you away to a padded cell and whisk the glasses away to who knows where. :)
@Valikdu:
…THAT COMIC DOES NOT NEED TO BE SO BIG!! Oh my aching ram…
When it finally finished loading and stopped lagging my machine and I finished alternately squinting and scrolling across it, though, it seemed good. But… seriously, why is it so gigantic?

- The bit about the glasses was more a reference to the old cult-classic Sci-Fi They Live, directed by the maestro John Carpenter himself. Not sure if you're familiar.
That RP sounds like it'd be something interesting to follow, though. Are the players currently dealing with the Swarm right now, or is that something for future events? If it does come in future events, then you've got some lucky players--I absolutely love the sneaky subterfuge-type stuff. I'm currently on the hunt for solidly-done stealth games, as always.

Well, like two goddamn minutes after the Female Titan fucks the hell off, in comes this "Krista" bitch, bein' all friendly and helpful and everyone thinks she's the best thing since sliced shit. She, it bears mentioning, has the same hair and eye color as the Female Titan.
Real subtle, show. Real fuckin' subtle.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I'm not sure. On one hand, and I find Accomplishments of Testosterone's characters to be pretty interesting and well-rounded so far; even the most minor of characters are fairly fleshed-out. They're nearly all believably stressed-out and close to despair with the situation (contrast with many protagonists in both Eastern and Western works who simply don't ever, ever get discouraged, to the point of insanity). The action's pretty well-done and solid, and the musical score is quite epic indeed.swicked wrote:Ah.
I was actually asking frosty with regard to his areola on tuna anime.
On the other, it has some of the problems you seemingly can't escape in anime--while dumping all the exposition and worldbuilding at once onto the viewer is poor form, Albert of Thermopylae, like its fellows, tends to move ahead with the story without giving sufficient information as to what's even happening currently, which can leave the viewer confused as to what's happening until afterwards. They also tend to overdramatize a great deal, from ordinary speeches and salutes to, as mentioned before, emotional breakdowns. It's not a total deal-breaker, but it's something that gets under my skin a bit.
