It is.
When movie is so full of shit, that majority thinks THEY should be paid for watching this...let's say, been pirated for those movies should be an hounor, since they can get full cinemas only if they force people to watch it (they sometimes do).

So they're like Syfy attempting to make a serious WW2 movie. Gotcha.

Okay, that put things into perspective.
I still want to see more Soviet-era movies (regardless of genre). I'm sure there's good and interesting stuff in there.

My reaction to your story.
The scream would probably be external had it been me in that situation.

Yes there are. There's plenty of good comedies (though I don't know if they were translated.
This for example. There's more good movies, but I can't remember they right now.
There is list of movies at the bottom of that article "Films directed by Leonid Gaidai". I recommend watching them all, they all are really good ones.

A Canadian friend told me of a story from WWII. There was a heavily fortified hill the Germans had control of, bunkers, artillery, the works. The American's and the British wanted to take down the hill but knew it would cost them a lot of time, men and resources.
The Canadians had the idea of tunneling under the hill, planting a fuck ton of explosives and blowing the hill up, which they did. With the hill gone and the Germans dead everybody went job well done and continued on.

To be fair, digging under fortifications and collapsing it isn't exactly a new idea. The Romans did it with their shovelly things, for instance

It's been done during WW1 and in the American Civil War.
These were called 'mines', IIRC. More powerful than what we think of today when you talk about a landmine.

Coming over from the other thread:
Interesting; I'd consider believability to be pivotal to immersion. Taking all factors into consideration, I think that I'd rank Old World Blues as the best, then Dead Money, then Honest Hearts (possibly moving up to second due to some unexplained stuff in Dead Money), and then finally, in the rear by a good amount, Lonesome Road.Derpmind wrote:O. *Twitch* Believability is very relative. I'd much rather talk about immersion or writing quality, since believability is more of a 'know it when you see it' kinda thing. (I don't see it there at all!)

I still say Old World Blues was created to nerf Cazadores. Yeah it's a tribute to old 50's sci-fi movies, but between the fully leveled DNAvenger perk and one of the implants you can find, you gain a 40% increase to damage against them. That stacks with the Entomologist Perk if you picked it and the Lord Death perk.
And if you keep the artificial heart you'll never have to worry about being poisoned again.

Whelp, ya cornered me. I have to admit now that I've only played OWB. That said, why do you feel that OWB is so believable? I found the sci-fi jokes and related ridiculousness, while very fun, constantly unrealistic and therefore unbelievable even as I was immersed in my character participating in the crazy science stuff.
Also, if ya want to say relevant in the main discussion thread, next time just tack on some on-topic discussion to the rest of your post.

Personally, I fucking hate it when people tell me that we shouldn't be doing things like this because it offends their notion of 'right and wrong according to god' or whatever bullshit explanation they have behind it.CamoBadger wrote:Overlong Analysis Cobalt wrote:Holy shit. This isn't the dark ages, we're passed those by fucking hundreds of years now. Technology is allowing us to live better lives where if we can try to prevent someone having to go through a shit life, why shouldn't we?
Same attitude towards those who say abortion shouldn't be allowed: It's not your body, you shouldn't get to decide. We're not all god fearing pricks like you might be, so fuck off. What does it matter if someone else wants to prevent forcing a new life in the world when they may not be able to provide what that life deserves? Like food, clothes, education and all the extras.
God I hate those people.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I agree with that almost completely.
The one limit I have to set on it is when people start taking advantage of it or relying on it.
For example - if we get to the point where we genetically modify every aspect of a child (beyond only fixing certain fatal/harmful mutations), that's too much in my opinion. On top of that, I'd like to think we should wait to see if the children of those who were treated have any severe issues because of it before this becomes common practice.
Same thing applies to abortion - I'm fine with it happening, do your thing. But if it gets to the point where someone is on their 4th abortion, it's time to send them back to sex-ed and temporarily sterilize them until they stop being an idiot.

I'll back Camo on this one. Just because something's there to use doesn't mean you can go out and abuse it. Abortion has its place, and unfortunately there's stupid young people out there who treat it far too casually. And when you get into modifying genetics, some asshat company is going to try and patent the gene, which one has already tried. I recall them failing, but who knows which way things are going to go in the future.

The US supreme Court has carefully worded a verdict making it illegal to patent human genetic sequences.

Ah, I think that your brain may still be calibrated for our universe. In our universe, yeah, it's ridiculous. In the Fallout universe, however, this is simple some of the finest SCIENCE! around. Your mind makes Canada real. Your body cannot live without the poutine. /Matrix
(I've never tried poutine, but according to this highly accurate comedy documentary, Canadians like it somehow.)
The legion never seemed to fit well in the setting to me either, BTW. Though I'd rather not try any over-analysis to find where all the bad ideas/execution come from. Eh.

My brain is calibrated for every universe, simultaneously. (Innuendo goes here) Now that I understand your point of view, part of me agrees completely. (SCIENCE! is power, as evidenced by my LAER vaporizing your head.) I'd say that maybe OWB is more consistently in tone with the setting than the other DLCs, but again I've only played OWB so I can't really judge. Though I have picked up some stuff about Lonesome Road, and what I've seen is fairly terrible.O. Hinds wrote:Ah, I think that your brain may still be calibrated for our universe. It's tasty, but if arteries could complain audibly, they would. And no, it's not served with maple syrup in any instance I've ever heard of.
Not to be confused with the Acadian poutine râpée, which is only the same in that it uses potatoes. I've never had it, despite living in New Brunswick where there are many Acadians.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
My nephew is playing new vegas right now, personally haven't played in ages(too easy for me now), and we were talking about how we play the game and such.
That is a pretty interesting discussion actually. How does everyone on here play the fallout games?
Me personally I like to keep my character balanced, used common weapons. Have a long range gun with parts that are common for picking off enemies. I kill the weaker enemies at this range so I don't get zerg rushed. A common assault carbine for shorter ranges and mopping up any weaklings that get through. A assault shotgun for close encounters, and use parts from more common guns to repair it. (in new vegas) a factionless armor that's common. In Fallout 3 the indestructible ranger armor. A ton of stimpaks, med-x, rad-x, radaway and such. A insane amount of landmines.
The reason why I play it like this is that it's the best way for pillaging bodies, still being able to fight and get a ton of caps. For the giant supermutant fight in the capital building in fallout 3 I was popping around like a jack rabbit jacked up on med-x and using the sniper to stop from getting shot at a distance. Running around folks unloading carbine bullets in their faces, twisting around to their backs, dropping into sats and unloading a ton of shotgun shells to the back of their heads, drop a couple of mines at their feet and run to the next guy. The giant super mutant isn't that big of a problem cause you can just kite him over a bunch of mines and keep using your carbine on his face. My first giant super mutant I just used a pistol cause he wasn't worth using my better ammo on.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
In all my Fallout games, I usually Min-Max to hell and back. I usually either go a sniper build or guns/melee build. In all circumstances, repair is absolutely maxed, no question. Guns as well--Energy weapons may do more damage, but they're fragile, limited in variety (meaning there's not energy weapons specialized toward anything and everything like you'll find in Guns. There's a gun for every scenario, Energy weapons are only good at close-mid range against slower enemies.
I usually don't bother much with Medicine, seeing as by the time I'm taking enough damage (and beds are rare enough) for me to need lots of healing, I've got dozens upon dozens of stimpacks horded.
Explosives, likewise, tend to be extremely situational and more trouble than they're worth
One thing that I always keep a ton of is Weapon Repair Kits. The parts for them are everywhere, and they turn the otherwise too-fragile-to-use much weapons like the AMR, Riot Shotgun or Hunting Revolver into viable workhorses, especially with perks based around reloading. The Riot Shotgun in particular, with Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Back tends to make fighting Cazadores and Deathclaws like swatting flies

How we play fallout games?
Power Fist (or the blade gauntlet in NV), or a shotgun if I don't feel like getting that close to something. 90% of the time includes excessive amounts of chem usage.
As for armor:
Female character - whatever accentuates the hips best (noshame.com)
Male character - strongest armor I have (or the medic-power armor in FO3 because best armor)

NV: For weapons, I use whatever would be fun(not effective, usually) in a situation, which usually ends up being Annabelle, the Police Pistol, That Machine, Riot Shotgun, or that unique minigun I can't remember the name of off the top of my head. I do carry a lot of weapons, though. All else fails, the AMR, Holorifle, or the LAER make appearances.
T-51b suit for armour.
Fallout 3: Same philosophy for weapons, preferably the Xuanlong Assault Rifle, Blackhawk, or the MPLX Novasurge, among other weapons.
Same as above for armour. I prefer using the unique ordinary suit to the Winterized version because the latter is invincible, but it's very difficult to repair.
Fallout 1: Guns, energy weapons when they are available, and whatever melee weapon around. 10mm->Hunting Rifle->Sniper Rifle->Laser Rifle->Plasma Rifle, and sometimes a Minigun in the end-game.

Hm...
I prefer stealth in my playthrough. So I max sneak, lockpick and science first. Then comes repair and other skills.
In weapons I prefer shotguns and revolvers. In late game I switch to sniper rifles.
Stealth suit from OWB is obvious choice for me, though Before OWB I try to get Elite ranger armor.
I don't really like energy weapons, so I avoid them. Explosives could be fun though, sometimes.
