Only temporarily. Of course in this case, there's a clear differentiation between "stuff I need to read that just updated", and "holy shit, I have ~400k words of stuff to read because I had to drop everything since early April to do schoolwork and all the major fics with massive chapters decided to update during that time, and all the small stuff just continues to pile up, and I already had Judgement in the backlog before that so AUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHhsdfhsdfhsdf".

I’m not going to be active for a while. Might still try doing reviews, but I’m going to stop all else for a bit.
Last Saturday was one of the best days/nights of my life. I met with people I care about more than I even knew. Remembered things. For a while I became someone I used to be before way too much stuff happened way too long ago.
So yeah, stuff. Stuff I need to do. I’ll be back when I’m better.

That is a ballsy move, and one that could pay off in a huge way for them. It's also a good move for us as a culture, for various reasons. Not because most fanfiction deserves to be highlighted, but because it's a rich, old tradition that could go in interesting new ways once it's legitimized.
